I have a number of these files in my C drive under user, local appdata. I think they are restore points. My is... question can I delete and start over?

I have problems with the backup in saying he has trouble reading a cliché. I would like to start over.

They are not the restore points but remnents of an installation or an update.

Remove them in the trash

  • Windows does not start after changing the partition with external software

    Hello

I messed up and followed some bad advice.  Water under the bridge, but I want to recover my bootcamp partition if possible.  I've seen several messages with the right process, but decided to post hear instead of assumptions.  I am running OS X El Capitan on an early 2011 MacBook Pro.  My 256 GB SSD is a bit pressed and tried to be too stingy with the Boot Camp partition, so my current troubles after resizing.  I have 10 Windows on the bootcamp partition.

I'm going to throw a bunch of data from my survey here.

  • All user accounts Windows XPrestricted open all of a sudden 'Map network drive' by clicking on the desktop and the "research" by clicking on any folder

    Hello

you have a problem with my Windows laptop that left me speechless.

I would really appreciate if someone could provide a solution or any ideas where to start fixing this, as I get close to return to the previous backup full system, but reluctant to do so as I have never done it before so I'm worried if it really works as supposed (Macrium and Ping).

    1. description of the problem

All users of Windows XP (SP3) restricted accounts open all of a sudden 'Map network drive' by clicking on the desktop and the "research" by clicking on any folder, including My Documents.

However, all accounts administrator work as before and also user accounts work like so usual, they are included in the Administrators group, with respect to the clicks of the workstation and records.

In addition, the correct icons for 'Drive' and 'Record' are visible when connected as long as administrator but lacking when logged as long as user restricted when you check the file associations by "open the folder and then click on Folder Options in the Tools menu.» Click the registry file types list. »

    2 solution unsuccessful attempts

    2. google and tried the solution to manually change the registry entries from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321186

    "
Start the editor of the register (Regedt32.exe).
Look for, and then click the default value under the following registry keys if this problem occurs with folders:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
If this problem occurs with drives:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
Click on edit in the Edit menu.
Type 0 in the value data box, and then click OK.
    Exit the registry editor.
    "

(Fixit associated meanings has also not working for some reason, says that the Windows Installer does not run, don't know if the same problem...)

    2B. and then also tried the fix "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll" at http://blog.chron.com/helpline/2005/10/double-click-opens-search-instead-of-folder/.

After these steps, the registry under "Drive" and "Directory" information are as attaché at the end read somewhere there should be a "find" under lock and key, as I have, but don't know if the subkeys under 'Search' are what causes weird behavior.

If anyone knows and could provide what the values for the registry values must be in a system that works, would be nice to compare to possible problems.

Unsuccessfully, with what precedes, to solve the problem, but noticed through that:

2 c. When you are logged in as administrator, I am able to see and modify the registry keys concerned with regedit, considering that when logged in as a regular user, I get an error that translates roughly as "the key could not be opened [consultation]?.» Error in opening the key. "for"Default icon"and subkeys 'shell' to 'Drive' and some subkeys under"shellex ".

Oddly enough, this is also the case even if I "Run with" regedit as a user belonging to the Administrators group when logged in as a limited user.  Could be the mechanism of Windows registry access.

Noticed that the small group 'Users' did not have access to "Drive". Grant read access, even as the "directory" and other registry keys next to them, for "users".

Now see the values of registry as a limited user, but the problem persists. Do you really know what to try next, after spending hours Googling for answers.

3 computer laptop environment and other factors

    3. don't know if it's related, but perhaps that coincides the time and the possible reason of sage:

I had the problem two days ago described in "account Administor doesn't have access to some files and registry entries" to http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/XP/Q_27415496.html.

Zone alarm free firewall prevented changing the key of HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microdsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.

Which was fixed as in the article above tweaking of Zonealarm settings so that changes are allowed.

    3. the environment of the laptop:

    Acer Travelmate 8204 laptop

Windows XP SP3 with virtually all updates of installed Microsoft.

Recent issues (related?) with the .NET Framework 4 updates and the repair facility. FixIt against MS to install MS Update and the Application works and reveals no problems, but the settings from-> Panel-> Add or Remove Applications said that it cannot change or delete NET Framework 4.

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall version: 11.0.000.057, prevented possible culprit get earlier access to the registry, uninstall?

Norton Antivirus version recently installed 20.3.1.22, possibly in conflict with ZA or bug?

content 'Repertoire' 3 c registry key.

It seems that I managed to solve the problem on my own. Did two things:

1 set the registry keys determine programs associated objects 'Répertoire', 'Drive' and 'File' to the default values by using the settings found here: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\

    2. If you want to have permissions for group 'Users' to read all these keys in the registry. For some reason any access worked only partly for standard users.

Not sure who finally solved this problem, but after I had finished 1. and 2. for the purpose of 'Record', by clicking on 'My computer' and any folder works normally for all users of the computer.

I suspect that some recent installation of program which adds actions associated with these objects messed up the registry. Suspects are Norton Antivirus and dbPowerAmp.

Thanks for the suggestions for this problem!

  • "all programs" + "menu" + screenshots

Over time, I modified the "All Users", "My Name" & "Default user" folders listed in the files of programs start.
However, once when I changed the records available in the 'All Users' files specifically remove "Accessories".
folder and some elements of the "System Tools" folder, it has also affected the folder 'My Name '.

What I'm trying to find is a list of directories tree style text or screen captures, names of the records & the
programs in a STOCK, a FRESH win XP SP3 INSTALL.

I found all kinds of things relating to customization.  This isn't what I need.
I found all kinds of things relating to the restoration as a result of the elimination of the virus. I have also useless.

If I new what all folder names were, I would just recreate them, what I did for MOST, but not all.
If I new what all .exe, .com, .cpl, .msc, etc., those too, I could re - create.  I did that for a lot less I want.

Any help would be greatly appreciated that I prefer not to do a fresh install of Win XP SP3 and cross all the fun
get the system to the State it is now, that is to say, patches, updates, installed software, etc.

    Have a great day!

  • Unreadable characters in Vista

At the start of my PC with win. Vista, text has been changed from one day to the next in unreadable symbols = small circles, lines, points and squares with numbers in there. Recovery disk found nothing wrong. I have pictures of these symbols, but can't post here. I don't know what to do... Help, please

    Hello, Joe Barton,

Same problem of police.  See Jeeped response:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-performance/i-started-up-my-computer-and-there-are-all-of/2265f1ad-877B-47AB-80fc-aa92f9b642e7

After identifying the font Marlett and Googling some variations on all in marlett fonts windows 7, I could make a choice together some ideas.

The problem seems to lie between %WINDIR%\Fonts and the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Fonts registry key. If they are incorrectly crossed no font cannot be displayed if the system uses the Marlett font as a last resort.

Warning: the following describes procedures that could make your computer unusable. Use everything described here at your own risk.

Some problems have been solved by repopulating the folder of fonts with a new set of TTF and FON of DVD files and others have been resolved by deleting the registry key of fonts and restart the computer where the computer will rebuild the key and the entries/values according to the default values.

If your fonts folder seems to be filled, I try to delete or rename the folder StaticCache.dat orfms_mettadat.xml files and restart the computer. If they are not rebuilt to default values, and then replace all the fonts in this folder can resurrect your system.

Please understand that these are a few suggestions based on my 20 years of working with Windows. I have a computer with this problem to experiment with and there seems to be several causes/resolutions others have written on the subject. I only suggest some of these methods for your Windows operating system as a whole seems to be unusable without a valid display typeface.

BTW, do you have a font on a command prompt? You have tried to start in an environment ofSafe Mode with command prompt ?

  • Windows Vista to Windows 7 easy transfer

I tried to use the simple Windows for Windows 7 easy transfer to transfer files on my old laptop (Vista 32-bit, SP2) for my new laptop (Windows 7, 64-bit). I downloaded the WET and I get the message "Windows Easy Transfer has encountered an unrecoverable error. Please restart application. "Tried several times. However, even though I have uninstalled/reinstalled the patch, I still get the same message.

I noticed that several people have posted the same message; but, unfortunately, I've yet to see a resolution. Please notify.

    Hello

    ·        On what version of windows, you get the error message (Windows Vista or Windows 7)?

    ·        Where do you get this error message (when you try to install the easy transfer Windows or when you try to transfer data)?

    Method 1:

If you get the error message during the installation of the application on the Windows Vista-based computer, try to re - download the app and check if that helps.

Fssm32.exe file has something to do with F-Secure, which is part of Zoom Interenet security. You can consider other programs for a better protection.  It is normal to have several svchost.exe. Each of them runs the various processes while having the same name.

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/what-is-svchostexe-and-why-is-it-running/

Not to say that the the HJT log shows otherwise, but it must be posted on the malware removal forum.

Thank you for your Elsa reaction.
In the meantime, the problem has been resolved. I already reported this in the other thread in the Outlook helpdesk. Here's a copy of my post there.
The problem started shortly after a McAfee virusscan and was solved when I uninstalled the McAfee MOBK program that was apparently added as an extension.
But I have no 100% certainty that he was the cause, or that the problem just disappeared spontaneously.

    Concerning

    Talleyrandful asked on

    Hi Edgar,

Although Outlook is back to normal for me since this morning!
What I've done - in fact for another reason - removed an unsolicited program that McAfee has installed and has been called in a McAfee McAfee MOBK folder or something. Number of files there was called Mozy etc...
I'm not 100% certain that work because the other customer who had what was done (who started this thread) has also had the experience that all of a sudden, the problem disappeared.
    Thanks for your help anyway.
I'll also make a post in the Public section.
