Data Execution Prevention won

I am running Vista Home with SP1 on an ACER Aspire 5610Z-computer laptop.
I downloaded and installed Live Messenger since the Live Web site.
Almost everytime I try to run it, I get a Message saying that DEP has closed to Live Messenger.
I tried to turn off DEP for Live Messenger, but got the Message that this is not possible.
What to do next?

SouthWestAngl,
This issue seems to be related to Acer eDataSecurity.  There is a related article, as well as a patch to solve this problem, on the website of Acer here:

Please post back to let us know if this fixed your problem.

Welcome to the community Microsoft and thanks for posting the question.

Looks like you want to turn off the data execution prevention to launch iTunes.

Visit this link and try the methods and check also turn DEP for an individual program:

  • Data Execution Prevention will not let me turn off for nothing

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) blocked one of my games to open. I followed the steps to turn it off, but when I get to the window with the option "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select", it is grayed out and won't let me select it. I am the administrator (my account is the only one on this computer), so I don't know why it doesn't let me do. I have looked everywhere and can not find someone else with the same problem. I have Vista Home Premium, 64-bit, if that helps at all.

    Hello

First of all, I suggest you to see if a Data Execution Prevention of the game compatible version is available by visiting the website of the software publisher. If the Publisher has not released an updated, compatible version DEP for the program, you can turn off DEP for the program that was closed. You will be able to use the game, but it might be vulnerable to an attack that could spread to your other files and game.

I would suggest trying the following steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: Open the elevated command prompt, follow the steps to open the elevated command prompt.

    a. click the Start button.

    (b) in the Start Menu, click programs principally made, followed by accessories.

    (c) in the menu accessories, right-click on command line option.

    d. in the drop-down menu that appears, click on the "Run as Administrator" option.

    e. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled, you will be asked for permission before the opening of the command line. You simply press the button continue if you are the administrator or insert password etc.

Step 2: Try the following steps to activate the Data Execution Prevention, using commands.

    a. in the elevated command prompt, type bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx OptIn and press enter.
NOTE: If for some reason that this command does not DEP after restarting the computer, then use the command bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx AlwaysOn rather.

    b. you should get a success return message.

    c. close the elevated command prompt.

    d. restart the computer to apply.

Note: Once you are done with step 1 and step 2, try to add the data execution prevention program and check if it helps to open the game or not.

    Hope the information is useful.

The problem might actually be an addon or another program causing the problem and you
    must verify that 1.

What antivirus/antispyware/security products do you have on the machine? Be one you have
EVER had on this machine, including those you have uninstalled (they leave leftovers behind which)
    may cause strange problems).

Start - all programs - Accessores - system tools - IE with no Addons - does this work better?

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - tab click on restore, and then click Reset - apply / OK

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security - reset all Zones by default level - apply / OK

    not better?

Close IE and try again IE or IE with no Addons

IE - tools - manage Addons (for sure disable SSV2 if she's here, is no longer necessary, but)
Java always install it and it causes problems - you never update Java to go back in and turn it off again.)
    Search for other possible problems.

Windows Defender - tools - software explore - look for problems with programs that do not look
right. Allowed are usually OK and "unauthorized" are not always bad. If a doubt
program to ask about it here.

Could be a free - BHOremover - BHO - standalone program, needs no installation, download and

    Hi Sabledanny,

    1. have you uninstalled all 3 programs listed?

If so, you will need to reinstall the programs, remove them from the DEP.

  • Why does the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) stop Windows DVD maker work & burn a DVD of my videos?

My operating system is Windows Vista.  I used Movie Maker to make of my recordings of camcorder home movies, but when I try to burn a DVD with Windows DVD Maker, the program closed its doors with an error message - Data Execution Prevention (DEP) has apparently stopped the program for preventing possible dangers for my computer, maybe because he was "bad memory usage".  I tried to turn off DEP for this program, but it won't let me.  How to work around this problem?

Ok. No problem. If you don't want to try to solve the problem, it's your choice.
When something they are trying in a browser doesn't work, then the next step is to try it in another browser. The reason is that not all Web sites are optimized for all browsers. For example, there are the sites of online banking that will work correctly with Internet Explorer and not other browsers (Firefox, Opera and others). This is the reason why you should try another browser.

What do you use on a firewall and virus/adware/malware protection?

In fact, Windows 7 is considered by many, including me, to be the best operating system that Microsoft has just released on the market.

If you use Windows 7, then the image I posted must be precise. It is the operating system that is started on this PC at the moment.

  • Data Execution Prevention ended at Half Life 2 (hl2.exe)

I bought half-life 2 and install it on my new Vista pc. So I finished the installation, and I open up half-life 2. In my taskbar, a small message will appear, indicating that the prevention of execution of data is completed half-life 2, click here for more details. Or did Bill Gates? Help, please. It seems that I can't turn off DEP, and I can't add a program as an exception, even though my computer says I can. Hello

As you have already given an exception to this game and the problem persists, it must have some other programs interrupted during the launch of a game. Try to disable all non-Microsoft programs and then play the game to check its operation.

    1. follow step 1 to perform a clean boot to disable all non-Microsoft programs: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    2. restart the computer and launch the game to check its operation.
    3. If the game works fine, then follow step 2 to step 6 to find out what is causing the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    4. follow step 7 to start the computer as usual.

You can also check if the problem continues in a new user account.
