Database cloning strategy

Hello

I have the database of production (1102.0.3.0) in Windows 2008 server R2 64 bit version. My database has some patterns which also partition tables and links Db and the views of M.
Now my team leader asked me to install the same environment (such as cloning) in the test environment. I have a lot of options to create the same configuration database using options such as Import/export, data pump, Rman backup to hot and cold.

My doubt is which option will best and optimal to achieve the same?
can someone tell me in what approach I should proceed?

Thank you and best regards,
Vikash Jain (Junior DBA)

Salvation;

1. you can go with data pump
2. you can go with rman(restore/recover)
3. you can go with the clone process

I suggest you go with option 3 or 1 (I chose option 3). Please see:

    Hello

I have my database (11.2.0.3.0) of test running on Windows server 2008 R2 64-bit. My name is TESTDB database and its operation in log mode archive with ASM. I want to clone the same database using RMAN... I checked the many documents and have searched in google also, but did not find the right document. I am very new to the database of ACTIVE RMAM feature.

Here I have the different file name with the structures of different directories also...

    my doubt is:

    * 1. How to copy a database running in log mode Archive with the DSO to the remote computer with the same name of DB via RMAN? *
    * 2. How to copy a database works in log mode Archive with ASM in a remote machine with the different DB name like CLONEDB via RMAN? *

Please suggest me how to proceed?

I'm not familiar with RMAN. I do not know the RMAN feature. so I'm not able to use it.

is it easy to use RMAN to the cloning of a database.

    Thanks Ken.

It is very easy. Just check my video tutorials and you will discover how easy it is :)

  • database cloned from 32 64-bit platform issues.

Here's the scenario: Prod database is running on windows server 2003 32-bit, 10.2.0.5 recently patched to 10.2.0.4.

Need a test copy of this running on Server 2008 R2 64-bit, so I installed 10.2.0.4 with - ignore the switch of sysprereqs running setup.exe, then patched to 10.2.0.5, which is taken in charge on 2008 R2

create a database named "test", to create directory structures, file init, etc..

then copy datafiles of new destinations from the last user online, startup nomount, managed backup, create controlfile with set of base data etc. then question restore database until cancel using backup control file, apply a few archives copied from prod and then cancel and open resetlogs. (my usual process clone)

but this time, when you do an open resetlogs I hunted and session close by ora-1092. I try and again beginning of database and get the errors that require data recovery files, and publish all recover data file '.. ' commands and try and open again, again put on the door. Check the alerts log and he asks "open upgrade. I connect as sys, startup mount and open upgrade, database begins!

So I think I have run better catproc on this database anyway, so I try to run it (as sysdba) and get:

Then, connect as sys even once, stop the DB and try to upgrade to start, get again errors "datafile needs of recovery", recover the data files and open with upgrade, try running catproc again and the same error message saying that I need to be connected as sysdba , which I was.

In any case, the database is in place and works ok at this point, so I stopped, issuing start and get kicked again when trying to open, save back with mount starup and then change the database open upgrade and it opens again.

I think I'll just create a blank database at this stage and exp/imp, but I've been under heard that 32-bit backup could be restored to 64-bit platforms - unless I missed something somewhere?

    any ideas?

  • Database backup strategy

    Hi all

I am trying to get my head around what I should do regarding the archive logs. It seems to me that they should be regularly backed up using some sort of work custom both FRA and external location? I read on some of the parameters that can be set to achieve. According to what I read that would then the deletion policy to take effect.

My question is around what is happening when you use the incremental backup strategy. I understand that I must always save the archive logs and have them in a tertiary location seems reasonable. However, it also seems to have the last full backup also available in a higher location such as if I lost my FRA then I could get it and logs archive for that day.

My thinking is correct on this, and how do I achieve it?

    Thank you very much

    Hello

However, it also seems to have the last full backup also available in a higher location such as if I lost my FRA then I could get it and logs archive for that day.

Is that the FRA can protect data against any type of failure?

What happen if you lose records FRA housing?

So, it is more safe store backup and newspapers archived on several media or a place. You can use strips (a store in a safe place), multiplex of the backup and archiving of destinations (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmcncpt.htm#BRADV107) also you can think of a solution DATAGUARD.

    Hope this helps.

Should be pretty obvious.  Oracle not knows not the exact file name, %u is a placeholder. You KNOW the exact name of the file.

  • VM cloning question

I built a model VM image to use as a template for future virtual machines.

All its files are stored in the directory data store "model-VM.

I have this VM power off and browsed the data store model.

I created a new directory in the data store and baptized nn01.

I went in the "Template-VM" directory and copied the .vmx and hard files to the new directory 'nn01 '.

Then, I created a new machine virtual of ESXi using custom selection and by specifying the option "use an existing virtual disk".

(I know how to manage the change of MAC address so I don't speak these steps)

When I launch the new VM nn01, ESXi creates a new directory in the data store called "nn01_1".

Heck!  I wanted to ESXi to use the original directory of nn01 and place all files in config along the side of the

    .vmx and hard files.

What I am doing wrong in my VM cloning strategy?   I want the end result for all files

associated with the new VM be located in a directory.  "nn01" in this example.

    Thank you!

OK, I thought it out on mine.

I shouldn't have to create a new virtual machine and selecting an existing hard file.

What you need to do is to right click on the file «data through store window» .vmx

and select "add to the inventory.

  • ALTER database open resetlog?

I have try the database cloning (new name of the database) in my development environment (Oracle 11 g r1 Windows 2003 Server). While creating a new controlfile, we order as this "CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE SET DATABASE 'ORCL2' RESETLOGS FORCE LOGGING NOARCHIVELOG"
1.i just want to know why we need to use resetlogs, when I place this order, what happens internally in the oracle?
    2. when the new name of the database is updated in all the data file during create controlfile or opening of the database?

  • ORA-01504: name of the 'DEV1' database does not match parameter db_name "PROD1".

    Hi, all.

This is my first time cloning of a database. Recovery finished, but gave me the following error message. All parameters in the pfile file are on 'DEV1 '. I think that the db_name "PROD1" parameter exists in the control file and causes this error. The control file is under ASM.

How can I change the setting in the control file and raise the cloned database 'DEV1 '? Also, how can I avoid this problem next time I make a clone?

    Thanks in advance!

db_name parameter and database name must match. There is an incorrect db_name parameter in your target pfile database file!
Best: there should not be any db_name parameter at all.

Note: the name of the database is also in the controlfile.

  • Duplicate target for RAC database

    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition
    Red Hat Linux

    Hello

I'm a RAC database cloning using the command duplicate target database. First of all, we need create an auxiliary Instance using the source RAC database init file.

I see the following in the init file,

    Mdb1.undo_tablespace = "UNDOTBS1.
    MDB2.undo_tablespace = "UNDOTBS2".

What should I enter in the file init auxiliary instance for these Undo tablespace? I'll put CLUSTER_DATABASE false since the duplicate database is a single instance one. Only the Source database is RAC.

I'm cloning only SYSTEM, SYSAUX tablespace user and tablespaces Cancel two to 14 days sometime back. I'm ignoring all other storage spaces.

You only need a cancellation single tablespace... you can also create one afterwards if you want.

  • Upgrade 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3 without any installed database.

    Hi all

I did some tests on Oracle fresh install with upgrade patches.
The platform is Windows XP 32-bit, and it's just my laptop.

These are the things I've done:
    1 installed 10.2.0.1 (software only)
    2. upgrade to 10.2.0.2
    3 level to 10.2.0.3
    4. replace the Opatch with the latest version which is 10.2.0.4.5
    5. upgrade to 10.2.0.3 patch 31
6 use dbca to create a database.

I've never done this before and the creation of the database was successfully completed without any problems.
However, I had a few questions about this facility:
    1. do I need to run catcpu.sql?
    2. do I need to run view_recompile_jan2008cpu.sql?
I think I need to run view_recompile_jan2008cpu.sql because when I fell recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql, he showed that 1716 views and 3365 objects must be recompiled
    3. I used to be able to see the values in the history of register$ of the table, but at this time I wasn't able to see that. This is because I only create my database after I installed patch 31? is there any place where I can check if I have patch 31 installed from the database other than opatch?

    Thank you
    ADHIKA

Group of hotfixes are cumulative, you don't need to apply the previous to apply the last.
Regarding the CPU, it is explained in the readme patch CPU documentation:
"+ You must perform the steps in the Section 3.3.2.1,"Loading files .sql of modification in the database"" and Section 3.3.2.2, "Recompiling views in the database" for any new database only if it was created by one of the following methods: +.
Using DBCA (Database Configuration Wizard) to select a sample database (general, Data Warehouse, transactional processing)
With the help of a script that was created by DBCA that creates a database from a sample database
Cloning of a database that was created by one of the two methods presented above, and if the Section 3.3.2.1, "Loading files .sql of modification in the database" and Section 3.3.2.2, "Recompiling views in the database" were not executed after the CPUJul2009 was"
Therefore, since you're using DBCA, Yes, you must run catcpu...
