Definition of adapters additional iSCSI Software

My setup is two VMware ESXi 4.1 servers that are grouped together. I have installed software iSCSI adapter and installation on one of my servers in VMware ESXi 4.1. It works fine and I can access the two servers SAN.

Now I want to create a second software iSCSI adapter. Is this possible? I tried, but were incapable of success.

Any ideas on what I can do wrong?

Thank you

You will not be able to create more than one iscsi software. If you want to connect to a diiferent storage you can do using this iSCSI adapter.

  • The upgrade to ESXi 4.1 with storage iSCSI software to ESXi 5.5

I intend to upgrade ESXi 4.1 with which I have attached to ESXi 5.5 iSCSI software storage

I've updated all my guests who were on the SAN storage with no problems.

I would like to know that if it there's nothing I should take care before I update the host connected iSCSI to ESXi 5.5, as for the hosts with SAN attached storage I made to remove the cables of SAN before upgrading the host.

Also, if all known problems, you will be informed during the upgrade to ESXi 4.1 to ESXi 5.5 with iSCSI Software storage, please let me know?

If there is no different process to upgrade coz in ESXi 4.1 I do not see this link ports of iSCSI vmkernel ports software iSCSI but I know in ESXi5.5 we have to or I just launch a procedure of standard upgrade via the Update Manager and everything will be taken care?

    Thanks in advance

With ESXi prior to version 5, linking ports had to be done via command line. However, if it has been configured correctly, you should be able to upgrade to ESXi 5.5 (assuming that the host has not been previously updated since version 3). BTW. the last time that I disconnected the host of storage for an upgrade has been with ESX 3.0.

  • initator iSCSI Software

    Hello

is there a way to activate the Initator ISCSI software on a host ESXi 4.1?

I was playing arround with the orders-Get /-Set-VMHostHba, but it dosen´t work.

Another problem is that I identify the number of the vmhba cause I m using models of different hardware, I tried the following command:

    $iscsi = get-VMHostHba - VMHost $vmHost | where {$_.} {Model - like "adapter software iSCSI"} | Select device but $iscsi always returns "null".

It would be great if sombody can help me this two probs bit.

    Thanks in advance

    Odd, works for me.

    Have you made a

    Get-VMHostStorage $vmHost | Set-VMHostStorage -SoftwareIScsiEnabled $true

    to enable iScsi?

What is this returns everything that said "IScsiHbaImpl"?

    Get-VMHostHba -VMHost $vmHost | %{$_.GetType().Name}

Do you see an HBA with a status of "independent"?

    Get-VMHostHba -VMHost $vmHost | Select Name,Status

  • Add NIC initiator iSCSI Software

    Hello

I already have a configuration iSCSI operating with a single NETWORK adapter on a host computer. I have a spare NETWORK on the host card, and I thought I could use it to increase the performance against the iSCSI storage. The storage is configured with aggregation of links (802.11ag).

1 will be the two network cards increases the bandwidth against iSCSI, or it is used only for reasons of redundancy?

2 is it better to use two vSwitches with a NETWORK card each, or should I use a vSwitch with two network adapters and ports link?

    3. can I just add the additional network configuration without doing anything to the initiator of the software, or do I have to disable-> the reconfig to networking-> re - activate the software initiator?

I would also have a look at:

    http://virtualgeek.typepad.com/virtual_geek/2009/09/a-multivendor-post-on-using-iSCSI-with-VMware-vSphere.html

    (1) two NIC in a sandwich configuration balance the load pretty well.

    (2) I use a switch with two NIC, then you get annoying alerts for link redundancy and centralized management of the switch.

    (3) see the link. You need to set up an active / disabled and disabled / Active method for each load balancer vmkernel port. You will also need to link the port with the software iSCSI adapter vmkernel.

    Kind regards

  • How can I add our purchased additional computer software?

We have CS6 bought, but I need to add it to an additional computer. Could you tell me how to do this? I have our serial numbers ready, but don't know where to start.

Download, install and activate with your serial number.  You might find a link to download your Adobe account if you buy initially through Adobe for download.  Alternative download resources are...

  • iSCSI iSCSI Software adapter or Broadcom adapter?

This is a bit of follow up a thread on a previous post. But I noticed that my BL490c G6 5 hosts have a software adapter and Broadcom iSCSI adapt. Although I have nothing under Broadcom cards.

Is there a difference in performance between these two? In my head, material should be better than software, but it seems software as default.

I found this KB, indicating he may be some Fiddlers involved to get ESX to use Broadcom cards, but is it useful?

The iSCSI SAN is a StorageWorks P4300 G2.

The BCM5709 equivalent and can slightly reduce the amount of work the CPU has to do, but does not support Jumbo Frames.

If you are network switches or a table do not support frames then using the capabilities of unloading of these NICs is good.

If frames Jumbo is supported by the two switches and table so it is best to use the iSCSI HBA software.

  • When to use the ms iscsi software adapter

When should I use a vmware disk or using ms iscsi initiator software to point to volumes?  People will usually switch to a certain size of disk?

    Hello.

2 TB - 512 bytes is where you should start thinking about your options.  If you want a VMFS volume larger than 2 TB - 512 bytes, then you must watch the scopes or dynamic disk inside Windows options.  One of the biggest advantages of using the initiator iSCSI MS is that it is similar to the use of RDM - you can move them around much easier than with VMDK.  For me, it comes down more to the operation and management of the system to a particular size but.

    Good luck!

  • Migrate to vDS for iSCSI Software

So I'm going through the vDS migration guide, but I'm still a little fuzzy on how I need to migrate my VMKernel ports software iSCSI. Here is my setup...

I have 4 hosting a test cluster. Two network ports are dedicated on each host for vSwitch1 which has a VMKernel port with an IP address in the 10.5.33.

How can I disconnect from my software iSCSI initiator or migrate the IP address of a vSS to a vDS without a cause of a conflict?

    http://www.keithsopher.com/Images/VCP_logo_40.gif

While add you ESX host service VDS, there is an option to add the console service & VMkernel iSCSI to the vDS. If you already add this particular vDS host, remove first the host of vDS.

  • Please help me with iSCSI software initiator setup in ESX.

    Greetings,

I have a DELL MD3000i SAN with two controllers. Each controller has both for the multipath iSCSI network interface cards.  I've always used CF so I'm a little nervous in the implementation of iSCSI network on ESX. Please help me.

Controller 1 port 1 is the IP 192.168.253.2

Controller 1 port 2 is the IP 192.168.254.2

2 1 joystick port is the IP 192.168.253.3

2 2 joystick port is the IP 192.168.254.3

I have Setup VLANS on my level 3 for switch vlan 253 and 254.  IP addresses are 192.168.253.1 and 192.168.254.1 respectively.

My goal is to set up a fully redundant connection with failover support, but I can't enter the network on ESX configuration.

I intend using two network adapters in an active / standby (one active NETWORK card on a VLAN, put on hold for the other and vice versa) configuration.

Can someone please tell me exactly what to do to ensure the fully redundant connectivity?

    Thank you in advance.

Yes. This look is good so far.

You can remove all this and just install the base driver or coperate from THERE.

  • Adding additional iSCSI Volumes?

I have a cluster of 2 esx 4.0 host connected to an equallogic SAN.  Currently, the ESX hosts are connected to 1 volume on the equallogic and he VM 10-15 running using equallogic volume.  I created a new volume on the equallogic and configured to allow access of the two hosts.

My question is the following: to add the new volume for ESX hosts, should I simply go to each iSCSI host initiator and do a rescan "volumes"?  Is there any problem that would affect the other connected volume or the virtual machine; s that are on it?

    Thank you

My question is the following: to add the new volume for ESX hosts, should I simply go to each iSCSI host initiator and do a rescan "volumes"?

    That should do it.

Is there any problem that would affect the other connected volume or the virtual machine; s that are on it?

I've never had one with EQ and renumerisations - you should be fine here.

  • LUN visible in tabs of discovery, and not in the devices in iSCSI storage adapters

So, the gist of the problem is in the title. The question is finally: which would cause the iSCSI targets to appear in the static discovery tab of my iSCSI initiator properties, but do NOT appear in the list of devices in the details section of my properties of the storage card? I added the new IP address of my server iSCSI in the dynamic discovery tab and all appropriate records is immediately apparent in the static discovery tab, but I can't actually join one of them or add them to storage.

Since his arrival in vSphere 5, I have more problems than in the past with iSCSI LUNS.  We recently had to do physical and IP changes, and I'm fighting to get my iSCSI volumes reconnected. Although I write about a specific instance (something I need to get up in production as soon as POSSIBLE), I experienced the same thing on a different cluster with a completely separate SAN.

Anyone run into something similar? Basically, I know that guests can see the iSCSI volumes, but they are not available for me to add that the cluster storage.

NOTE: This same storage was attached to the same group last week. The only thing that has changed is IPS adapters and the SAN. In addition, the Network Configuration of the iSCSI Software initiator tab shows all three links in linked vmk "compliant".

    Thank you

    Hello

    Thanks for the update.

VMware announced specifically that routed iSCSI is not possible unfortunately. So yes, the issue is software ESXi SCSI adapter. The problem is that it is often a good thing - many problems of performance on other platforms relate to routers on iSCSI.
