Definition of administrative rights required for Firefox

I need to know if it is possible to define the Internet options to force the admin. rights. We have a problem with people who view the images that they should not, and I would block them on some sites.

I want to know with certainty before taking the time to see if there is a way to lock down Internet Explorer.
I don't use Windows much these days, but I guess it's relatively trivial to remove IE for any particular limited account access. However, the computer is likely to need IE, so don't remove it does not quite.

I'm not sure that you necessarily get your goal by locking just the preferences of Firefox, but that seems to be what you ask and can be done, see:

Perhaps an option is to have accounts of separate computer OS for youth and adults. Then, it would be possible to use the firewall etc settings to block some sites for a set of accounts.

You can find a network, possibly with Firefox ESR would help. That would allow the accounts to individual users for each person. It's not something that I am well informed on the subject, but you could look for advice on the mailing list

When you published Firefox 4, it updated automatically on my Mac PowerPC osx 10.5.x and then would not be executed. I had to look for an earlier version, download and reinstall. It was awkward. I can't find min sys req for the new 5.0 version. Min sys requirements should be obvious in yor press. What is the minimum configuration required for firefox 5.0 for Mac osx, and with more frequent updates, how will I know when you have 'obsolete' another one of my machines, and how would I be protected to an update too far?

Firefox 4 and 5 will not run on a Mac PPC; only on Intel. You can get the TenFourFox, which runs on a PPC.

  • A requirement for Firefox 5.0 is supported for SSE2. The processor in my laptop only supports SSE. I'd better not download Firefox 5.0?

    Dear Sir:

I am currently running Firefox 4.0.1 on my laptop.
    This browser works very well.

By the SSE2/SSE question mentioned above, I would like to determine whether I should download Firefox 5.0.

Please let me know if there is information that you need beyond what is included to the right.

If 4.0.1 works satisfactorily while Firefox 5 should not be a problem, so give it a try.

  • Network administrator password required for installations. My account is already defined as an administrator.

I have really no idea what I'm talking about so I will explain better than I can - I'm sorry if it does not sense!
We have a network of area to work and I just connected my new PC for her. I've used windows easy to transfer everything from my old PC.
Now I can connect using my old name and password, access the server etc but any time I try to install a program that I need to enter the domain administrator name and password.
I checked all the settings of the user account and my account is defined as an administrator. Is there something else I need to check/change? On my PC or on the server?

OK so I just logged in as CNDOMAIN\Administrator and checked the accounts of users who looked the same as above, but when I logged in as CNDOMAIN\Jac I am now able to install / make changes without any problems. Strange, but now solved!

  • User rights required for updating ReaderDC from ReaderXI

Our users are "Local users" on their desktops (not administrators), so they can't update their installation of ReaderXI with the latest patches.

For this we use the. MSP and a GPO files.

If I switch jobs to ReaderDC, "Local users" will be able to update and automatically get the latest patches?

With CD player your local users should automatically be updated to the latest version.

  • FAQ (27): the SDM requires administrator rights to run?

When I launch SDM, it happens with this dialog box. Is this normal?

Yes. SDM requires administrator rights because it requires the appropriate rights to update or apply SoftPaq updates to your computer.

The above message appears only if UAC (User Access Control) is turned on and that the user doesn't have administrator rights. For more information about UAC, please visit this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control

UNFORTUNATELY, the SDM version 3.5.0.0 (later from this post) has a problem where it wrong will not recognize the user as administrator if UAC is enabled.

If you have the SDM version 3.5.0.0, have active UAC and you are logged on under an account that has administrator rights and SDM displays the dialog box above, please note that this is a bug found ONLY in the SDM 3.5.0.0 version and will be fixed with the next version.

In the meantime, there are two solutions we can suggest you to work around this problem:

    (1) Although not recommended, you can disable UAC and reboot for the changes to take effect. We do not recommend this approach because UAC protects the computer against attacks. We include this option only for purposes of completeness.

    2) RECOMMENDED WORKAROUND: Force MDS to start with administrator right.  To do this, please follow these steps to work around the problem, until a new version of SDM is available:

    1. Open Windows Explorer.
    2. Go to C:\Program Files (x 86) \Hewlett-Packard\HP SoftPaq Download Manager. Note: If you have a 32-bit operating system, navigate to C:\Program Hewlett-Packard HP SoftPaq Download Manager.
    3. Right click on the file "SoftPaqDownloadManager.exe".
    4. Select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu.

I never have this problem on other portable Toshiba (Tecra A4, S2, M1...) Please help :-)

What about the case is clear, if the user wan to access the flash memory module inserted that he needs an admin rights

What you could do is to assign admin rights only for this particular application, which is responsible for flash memory.

I put t know exactly what applications it is but I guess on these program needs the right admin; Memory card SD, SD memory boot utility, format etc.

To assign the authorization right right click on the applications and select Properties.
Here, you have to choose the call of the Security tab.
Then select the user and allow the full control option.

  • During the installation of Firefox 4 beta, he told me that it does not work on my Mac. When I go to system requirements, need a page for Firefox3.6 requirements. Where can I find the requirements for the beta?

The link to the minimum configuration for Firefox 4 beta takes you to a page that gives you the requirements for Firefox 3.6 instead. I guess that the requirements for the beta are different, that I can't seem to install the beta on my Mac. Where can I find the beta version of system requirements?

Firefox 4 will not work on the Mac PPC, for Mac it needs the Intel processor. There is an accumulation of third parties based on Firefox 4 beta, which should work on Mac PPC, for details, see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

  • A user in domain local group administrators is not administrator rights

Trying to figure out what the problem is with the computer of a friend at work.

When you connect as long as domain user that is part of the local Administrators group, the user looks like he doesn't have administrator rights. For example, they are unable to create files in certain folders, etc where you wait for only admin to be.

If the computer is in safe mode, then everything works as expected.

If the same newspaper users in another machine on the network, while everything looks ok.

It just seems to be on a machine that he has problems.

All local group settings look ok and permissions on individual files look ok - and they work in safe mode.

This is a friends working machine, and for now, he tries to avoid his reconditioned machine to work around this problem. There is no restore point for him to try (it's out of our hands). We tried a number of things right, but nothing was any use so far - other than to try safe mode, but we do not know how to use this info.

Any advice on how this track more would me much appreciated!

OK, now that we are talking about. The files you mention are all the system folders. They enjoy special protection under Windows 7 to prevent rogue programs to do things behind your back when you are signed in under an administrator account. It goes the same for the root of C:. You can create folders here, but you cannot create files.

Click Start, click Help, and then seek help on UAC learn more.
  • "Need for administrator rights to install a program."

OP: Administor when only 1 person uses the computer
I'm tired of trying to install a program, and the program continues to say that he needs permission to administor.  I live alone, I don't have access to that computer. I confess, when I turn off control administor my computer develop a proplem and did not stop when I went to stop it. I usually shut down the computer and leave and let the closed computer are low and it hase never worked long until what I forgot to adjust administor on before I stop.  I want it fixed so I don't have to deal with control administor ever.

    Hi marydollar,
    1. which is the program that you are trying to install?
    2. you are the administrator of the computer?
    3. you receive a similar error message during the installation of other applications as well?
Try to install the application with administrator rights by following this step:
    a. Locate the .exe program file in Windows Explorer.
    b. right click on the .exe file and then click Run as administrator.
    c. when the UAC message is displayed, do one of the following:
o if logged in as a standard user, or if UAC is configured to always require credentials, enter the appropriate administrative credentials, and then click OK.
o If you logged in as an administrator and UAC is not configured to always need credentials, click Yes to start the application.

I think that you have already found a solution for this problem.

But my problem was a little like you, when the box has been commissioning it fails due to administrator permissions.

    Solution:

    -> Open TaskManager

    -> Go to startup

-> Select Dropbox and press the left button of the mouse to properties

-> A obtained the compatibility chart

-> Check the box "run this program as Administrator"

    Fact.

  • Administrator rights for CP9

Hi all.  Our friendly staff of the TI, for security reasons, have removed us the rights administrator on our PC.  Because Captivate requires administrator rights to work properly, they have somehow allowed admin for Captivate only rights.  If the application runs successfully, except the help - updates option is grayed out and unavailable.  So I can't run Adobe Application Manager (or whatever it's called) and have no idea when one of Adobe applications, I installed (I have the e-Learning Suite) are updated.  So my question is, how can I be made aware of updates to the Adobe software?  I have check the Adobe Captivate Blog everyday and keep an eye on this Forum Captivate.  Is there another source of update notice?

Does not not even mentioning if there is an update, can I install it is more - I need to get the COMPUTER staff to do.  It's a crazy finish reaction in my opinion, but my opinion is not enough.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I always try to talk about newly released patches everywhere... but important fixes are going to be spoken on the blog of Captivate I trust.
