delete difficult files?

I have my MacBook Pro (retina, 15 inches, end 2013) I can't delete files.  They were created in the form of archive Machine local time when the regular destination was not available.

When I discovered them I tried to move to the trash and empty.  The files have been copied to the trash can, not moved, so I have to find a different way.  I could get all together in a single folder, "TrashMe", in my userspace at home.  I don't know much about UNIX, but I tried sudo rm, rmdir, etc..  I have deleted enough that is not longer archives of Time Machine, but much remains.  I looked down through the folder structure and found files Crashplan downstairs.  CrashPlan support helped me to get rid of people, but there's more that I can't remove.  I get error messages, some of which I'll show you.

In the Finder, I select TrashMe, and read the information shows "You can read and write" and these users have these permissions

everyone reading & writing

Ritch (me) reading & writing

everyone reading & writing

I changed the permissions as shown, then chose to apply to the included items.  However, this does not work.  In TrashMe are files like this

I have no access to these files in the Finder.  In the Terminal I can ls and cd my way through the file structure.  I find structures like

Trash me/MobileBackups_2015-10-11-203305/Computer/2015-10-10-041640/Volume/System/Lib rary/Core Services / file: / / / users/ritch/TrashMe/MobileBackups_2015-10-11-032838/computer/2 015-10-09-080851/Volume/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/

I think what happened is Time Machine, maybe interact somehow confused with Crashplan, created from the archives of my system files and system files have special protection so that users can't accidentally erase them.  Time Machine could recognize it as an archive, so there probably way to remove the files, but I mutilated the file structure is no longer resembles a archive.

I think there must be a way to do this in the Terminal.  Can someone please suggest lines of command that I should type to delete these files?  There is I think of the tens of thousands of files, so please give me recursive forms

You can connect as the root Administrator and delete the theme probably.

Good luck.

  • How can I delete a file named [Torrentreactor.to]

    000000

We could use more information on the way in which the file came to be on your system and what program to assign you it.  In addition, it would be useful to know why you want to delete this file and where it is located (to see if we can learn more about it and its function and perhaps why, you find it difficult to do).  But I'll give a few suggestions based on certain assumptions that I'm going to do about the situation.  If you get error messages or the program starts to him alone without want you to do it, then please tell us that (and are exactly what that error messages and when the program starts).

If it is part of a program that you no longer want, you need to uninstall the entire program rather than deleting its files (as suggested above by Bruce)- otherwise the pieces of the program will remain in your system files and in the register (and perhaps elsewhere) without good service (and be VERY difficult to find and safely remove later if you want to clean your machine).  If Vista uninstall does not work, try Revo to: http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/revo-uninstaller/revouninstaller.html , who sometimes works when Vista standard uninstall programs does not work.

Maybe you do not have permissions or ownership to delete the file (you should receive error messages - if yes, what are they).  Here's how to fix that:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.)  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

  • Can I delete individual files in a backup of Windows 7?

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to delete individual files from a backup. I like to keep my backups tidy and get rid of files that I would need is more if I need to restore.

    Thank you
    Mike

    Hi Mike,.

First of all, it can normally be done, but it's not simple (and much more complicated/difficult {to the point where some people will say "no, it cannot be done"} if it is an image backup full rather than a full backup; and even with a full, more complicated backup but just more effort if differential backups indivdual also play a role, since you may need to check each of them also).

That said, the answer will also depend on what you used as backup destination.  If it was and external HARD disk or a separate internal HDD or a network location, then you will probably be OK.  If you used a set of DVD or CD, it of extraordinarily difficult or, if the drives are not the RW types (but guys R), impossible (since you cannot make changes to them once they are written).

See this thread to see if it helps: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/delete-individual-files-from-a-backup/5dbbe219-e062-4a11-9d87-a8ec26d97174.  Don't forget to use Browse for the files, as you see not individual files with browse for folders.

If this does not help, then I recommend research and/or validation of help in the TechNet Forum dedicated specifically to the problems of backup here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsbackup/.

In my case, since I the backups periodicals full image as well as weekly full backups (with daily differential backups) AND maintain multiple copies as "backup backups' so to speak, it would be even more complicated.  If I felt the need to do (but I don't see a good reason, it would be NECESSARY that desperately and leave just the time to cure the problem), I would probably remove the file from the system and just launch a new series of backups that although a lot of time, maybe more simple in the end.

    Good luck!

  • Unexplained random deletion of files

I put the finger on how and when it happens. But why this happens, I have no idea. I know that it is this computer, but I would like to know the correlation here.

But every morning alone, when I open the Dreamweaver. It always removes the files that I recently worked on as well as a specific set of files it removes always. Woke up this morning to the entire deleted folder.

Yes, I know it's Dreamweaver. But also associated with this computer, somehow. I didn't need to hear about viruses and all that. We scanned, checked, re-scanned lived reformat as the older version of Dreamweaver? Actually deleted my files the. So, I'm a little tad frustrated to Dreamweaver. But I know also is THAT this computer also, so it is difficult to what to be angry against, lol.

But of all ways, how to get Dreamweaver even connect to the server even when not connected and remove the files?

Today I've been open Dreamweaver, then bam! Our site goes down.

I really envy this computer just office space.

Use a dedicated 3rd party FTP Client like Filezilla to transfer files.  If the problem persists with Filezilla, you have a big problem with your computer.

Actually, no. Deleting files directly from the sparebundle will lead to file corruption.

    Hello

Cannot delete/rename/move a file of Windows with a special character

    https://discussions.Apple.com/thread/7409456

    Workarounds include:

    (a) start the machine problem in OS X 10.10 or an earlier version and delete the file from there. or

    (b) connect the machine problem started in disc Mode target of another machine booted to OS X 10.10 or an earlier version and delete the file from there. or

    (c) to initialize the volume where the file problem.

This seems to be a serious regression within XNU. I wonder if it is fixed in OS X 10,12 or not.

  • All IT gurus out there who know Firefox... have lost the passwords saved when FF created a new profile and delete old files key3.dbf and logins.json profile.

All IT gurus out there who know Firefox... have lost the passwords saved when FF created a new profile and delete old files key3.dbf and logins.json profile. Any ideas, anyone?

    So it's not a logins.json file?

I see a signons3.txt file and a file signons.sqlite older, if you can try to see if you can import passwords stored in this file.

You can force Firefox to re-import the passwords in the file signons.sqlite and regenerate the file logins.json with the following steps:

    • reset the signon.importedFromSqlite pref on the topic: config page by default via the context menu
    • Delete the logins.json file in the closed Firefox with Firefox profile folder

When you restart Firefox, then you should have the pref signon.importedFromSqlite with the value set to true.
You have passwords that are imported in the password manager, unless there were errors or signons.sqlite signons3.txt.

You can open the topic: config page via the address bar.
You can accept the warning and click on "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

    Hi malcolm_henry,

From what you describe, you receive an error message when you run OverDrive and attempt to transfer the music files on your SONY reader, are - this correct?

If so, the issue is probably with OverDrive, and you should contact their support of clarification on what means the error message:

  • Despite compact records later, I can't delete imported files

Trying to consolidate email accounts in thunderbird for winxpsp3. With the import feature, I tried to import
emails to outlook express and choose "all." Well, it has imported everything on my logical disk as a record of e-mail and now I can't delete them. They reappear once I deleted some of them on the next boot or install,
Java will not erase of it at all. Why it has imported no records email and or in any case can I get rid of these file directories once anmd for all. I even uninstall on 4 different and same versions messed up the folder tree appears always. I would really like to keep usng thunderbird, but it's maddening.

I stumbled upon the answer... somehow the program had used my drive D:\ logical for local folders "nobody," rather than looking in the D drive for mail folders. It is under this directive wide she added each file D that I got under local folders and couldn't delete all files in the local folders. It wasn't until I have change D to something more specific than ubiquitous inapplicable records finally went and could stay deleted.

  • What is the best way to retrieve deleted mp3 files? I am running OSX Leopard 10.5.8 on a PowerPC G5 tower. I'll be very grateful for any help in this matter. Thanks to Chris

    Hello

What is the best way to retrieve deleted mp3 files? I had a lapse of attention and I deleted a folder containing most of my music files. It is for the most part, the mp3 but there was regular audio files and some wav files in there also. I am running OSX Leopard 10.5.8 on a PowerPC G5 tower. I have another PPC machine to help the recovery, if I need, but at the moment, he is not appearing on my network (3 computers). I'm trying to change this soon. I'll be really grateful for any help in this matter.

    Thanks to Chris

If you emptied the Recycle Bin after you move the folder to the trash, and you don't have a time Machine or another backup, then it is lost, sorry.
