Deleted a folder edited catalog - Bad move?

I searched the forum for an answer, but I have forgotten or omitted to enter search terms exact, that I needed...

I deleted a 173 DNG file edited from the catalog. Don't ask why!

Am I right in assuming that all of the presets and adjustments for these files are permanently gone? It seems that they are. -At least, I had already exported all at full resolution JPGs!

Please correct me if I'm wrong with this statement:

To preserve the settings predefined/adjustment applied to any image file in Lightroom, the files MUST stay in the catalog. Yes or no?

It is an impressive program, & there are many more, I must learn - sometimes the hard way.

Yes, once you put your photos in Lightroom, they should stay in Lightroom. Thinking that Lightroom is the way in which you manage your photos in the future. do not use the operating system (Windows Explorer or the Mac Finder) to manage or find your photos.

Here's how to change the default template for a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70819-windows-explorer-folder-view-settings.html.  Default behavior is to select the model based on the first type of file placed in the folder (you must choose something).  Vista sets the folder type template according to what are the types of files in the window and the settings display window Explorer. This will show you how to reset the folder Windows Explorer view settings (which is what I think you wnnt), disable Automatic folder Type discovery and increase the view of the folder cache to have Vista do not forget the display, model settings of file type, size, or position of a specific window for when it was still closed to the location of specific path.

It does not work with the Sub record under, Open with, open in a new tab (Internet Explorer), etc... dialog windows of type through the good File menu bar item. These don't seem to be able to have their size or their position to recall. For the latter, you can use the free program http://autosizer.en.softonic.com/ to resize them.

Try to use Unlocker to:http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml this programs often works when the normal functions of remove Vista not work correctly.

If this does not work, you need to change the permissions and ownership on the file in order to have all the rights and the property (even on the inherited rights).  Then try Unlocker.  Here's the information to help you do.

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/. To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To solve this problem with folders, folders takeownership or the reader (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html. To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

    I hope this helps.

  • Delete a folder in Vista Home Premium

I can't delete a folder. It seems to be fixed on Outlook.exe, PID 1528, Type manage. I don't know what it means and I would like to delete this folder. I use Vista Home Premium.

First absolutely sure you want to delete the folder - it may be important for some functions (for Outlook).  If you're convinced you want to remove it and the function of normal removal in Vista will not work, then try one of the following two products: killer file: http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php or Unlocker (my preference) to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml.  They often work when the Vista standard delete function does not work.

It could also be because of permissions or file ownership.  Here's how to deal with these two issues, if they prove to be the case (once you have you can always use one of the above two products to get rid of the file/folder, but then they will probably work):

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights. You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.)  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • How to recover accidentally deleted bookmarks folder

Just look through a Favorites folder "music" and decided to delete the old folder it contains. Unfortunately, I managed to delete the folder music together!
It is not in the Recycle Bin that I find strange, so is there another way I can restore this precious bookmarks folder. Is it hidden in Firefox somewhwere?
Just to let you know, I'm not that great with computer talk so would appreciate any help being relatively simple if poss. Cheers.

If you have not yet closed Firefox, just open the library window and use organize > Cancel.

If you have closed Firefox, restore a backup of bookmark to before this is deleted.

  • Where is my deleted items folder?

I have a new e-mail account in outlook express.  My personal folders are Inbox, sent messages, drafts, and trash.  I do not have a deleted items folder, or I'm not.  When I delete messages, I don't know where they're going.  How can I create a deleted items folder?  My old e-mail account with Shaw had a deleted items folder but this new account with Telus does not for any reason any.  The two accounts ran outlook so I don't know what the problem is.  Help, please!

Unfortunately, very few use IMAP, if there aren't very many experts inside.  I had never used it before, but Bruce encouraged me, and I found that I could create one in my area, so I did.  I also did a deleted items folder.  (Note that there is no here too: http://help.seattleserver.com/imap-setup-outlook-express/)  What I tried to log on to the server via webmail and then add a folder of items deleted on the server.  Then, in OE, go to tools | The IMAP folders and reset the list.  Then you should have a file deleted in the list of folders.  After that make sure that you have set to display the Inbox | Current view | Show all messages.  Then when a message is deleted, a line is drawn through the message in the message list to indicate it has been marked for deletion and it should move to the deleted items folder when folders are re-sync.

    See if that helps any.

  • When sending email e-mail remains in the Outbox and is sent over and over again unless I'm deleting it. It does not move to sent box

My Internet service provider said that it is not a problem of them

Can I assume that the e-mail program, you did not mention is Outlook Express?

You have apparent dbx file corruption.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and then create new folders to send and sent items box after having moved the messages you want to save to a local folder that you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX files for the items in the Outbox and sent and delete them.  New ones will be created automatically when you open OE.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email
    http://thundercloud.NET/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in custom Mode and uncheck analysis when the option is the result of e-mail messages.

    Compact often as specified above.

    And backup often.
