As the XPS 630i has been stored for a long period of time, the replacement of the battery from the motherboard would be the first step.

A CR2032 3V Lithium coin battery is needed, it can be purchased from any Radio Shack, Wal-Mart and most pharmacies.

Tip: Before you replace the CMOS battery, if possible try to write down the settings of system configuration, as a reference.

What color is the power light and it is solid or blinking?

There the "beeps" [see page 91]?

The tool and XPS 630i diagnostic Codes, is here:

http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_xps_desktop/XPS-630_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.PDF

Two beeps might indicate a memory problem, try to open the case, remove and reinstall all the memory, to see if that makes a difference.

If you think you're able to work inside the chassis, it would be better to take the 630i to a local computer repair shop.

  • Update video card: 630i Desktop - need advice

I have a Dell XPS 630i Desktop 5 1/2 year, which usually is going very well, with enough power for most of the cases.  Recently implemented a 125 GB SSD as drive operating system.

Anyway, in these last days, we got some random video artifacts appears sporadically on one or two of my two monitors Viewsonic (DVI for both of the Nvidia 9800GT 512 MB video card).  A small section of the screen will have the weird characters, sometimes a bunch of screen Flash, etc.  And a few times that there was a BSOD crash, with the video driver (nvlddmkm.sys) be responsible.

I tell myself that there must be a bad video card or driver.  I have updated to the pilot the most recent on the Dell site (R213185, 181.30, Vista 64, A04) and well.  But I have this vague feeling that it is a hardware problem.  If it was a driver problem, why now after all these years, he suddenly would be problems, no recent changes to the system, etc..

I used the tools of diagnosis from Dell, which has tested the performance of the video card, memory, etc, and no errors were detected, which is encouraging.

I post here, to seek advice, in which case the video card end up being the problem and need to be replaced.

    1. If I decide to replace it, what are some good recommendations for a new map of video for this system (Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40 GHz, 6 GB of RAM).  I don't want exaggerated and pay for potential performance of video card I would not be obtained with the old motherboard, CPU, RAM, etc.

    2. the current system is sufficient for most cases, with the main shortcoming being the slow performance when you are working on my of Canon DSLR Raw files in Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop, watch a HD video from camcorders or other sources, etc.  In this regard, replace the video card would provide a substantial improvement in this type of performance?

    3. I'd rather than replace the entire office by something more recent?

All thought, popular point of view.

    Don

Video card drivers can become corrupt and simply uninstall them and their update with a new driver may solve the problem.  It is more likely a hardware problem, a driver problem, even if the 9800 GT is an old map.  If he wasn't pushed hard with the game over the years, then it can last a long time. XPS 630i is a good system and with the Q6600 it is still worthy and can perform very well.  If you were to replace the video card, I'd just get something simple like the GTX 650 HERE, which would exceed the performance of the 9800 GT and not market much.

  • Dell 630i want to upgrade video nVidia

I have a Dell 630i with the installed nVidia GTX240 standard. I want to improve the maximum supported video, which I think is an installation of video card nVidia SLI double. I want to know is what current nVidia cards are compatible with the 630i.

UPDATE: I should have mentioned that the main reason for the upgrade is that I'm a new fan of Flight Sim (FSX to be precise - thanks, Dad) and want to have as realistic, possible an experience, that's why I am considering SLI Double option. Before that, I'm open to suggestions as to the best video card to use.

Because you have an archaic system and older CPU, you do not want to too high and I wouldn't waste money on a SLI configuration.  A 240 GTX is old enough.  I'd just get a GTX 750 Ti, the GTX 660 or 760 GTX and you'll be miles ahead of the 240 GTX.

I bought a Dell 8900 desktop computer.  I want to put a ssd Samsung in there for the boot drive.  Will this void my warranty?

  • How can I start my dell 5150 desktop in SafeMode?

whenever I start my dell desktop 5051, I get a black screen. I want to start it in safe mode, but I can't. I put the CD of the OS in and tried then tried to use the drivers and Utilities CD, but same results.all I want to know is how can I start in safe mode?

I tried hitting F8 as soon as I turn it on, but all that appears is a loading screen with:
    REFERENCE DELL
    www.Dell.com
    Dell DM051 series
    * loading bar *.
    BIOS revision A07
    it freezes it...

If the computer is at a standstill during the POST screen, more often than otherwise, it means you have a hardware problem.  I recommend the section on the Product Support site at dell.com and see if you are able to find troubleshooting tips there.

Worst case, you can contact Dell Technical Support for assistance.

  • Upload of JPG file inadvertently (a map) for Dell Laptop Desktop - impossible to remove

Somehow when I went to enlarge a jpg of a card that I had in my folder of images, the image become "embedded" (my words) on the desktop of my Dell laptop, using the Windows 7 operating system. I tried everything, including the photo in the photo folder and restore the system to an earlier period. Unsuccessfully to remove or "Edit" the image on the desktop, I enabled and disabled. The "shortcuts" (off the coast on the side of the screen) for various programs remain unchanged. The laptop works without any problem.

Any ideas on how I can get rid of the card (it's about 4 x 6 inches).

  • Dell XPS Desktop Power Supply Upgrade 8700

    Hello

I'm sure that some of you are aware that the Dell XPS 8700 is equipped with a reasonable 460W PSU modest, Delta which is enough to power 750 it GTX because it gives him a little leeway. However, the GTX 750 Ti is not able to run some slightly newer games to high heat. I am looking for a diet that is not only in the case of the 8700, but will not damage the motherboard! I heard that someone has tried to use a corsair PSU and proved the 6 pin 24v instead of the 12v that uses the motherboard, this has resulted in it having to buy a new motherboard I want.

    My specs:

    16 GB RAM DDR3

    32 GB SSHD

    I7 4790 3.6 GHz

    2 TB HARD DRIVE

    460 delta PSU

    GTX 750 Ti

The case that comes with the XPS 8700 lol

I'd be very grateful if someone with experience could help me.

I think the two dimensions that need to be accurate are the height and width (5.9 "x 3.4") and the variable is the length.

I have a seasonic X 650 is 5.9 "x 3.4" x 6.3 "deep and it's a fit tight, but doable." PSU OEM is subject. 25 "shorter, but I do not measure it recently and I forgot the exact size.

The AX760 corsair is the same dimensions as the seasonic X-650 and it is reported also to adapt.

This thread may be of interest because it lists what many use.

  • Dim Dell laptop desktop

One night last week my Dell XPS laptop has changed from one day to the next.  It is windows 7 but don't know what it is now.  Now my screen is very dark and my icons are all gone.  Another place I guess.  I look at something the brightness comes to my normal setting.  Why the Sun Office and where are all my icons?

    Click on the starting planet

in the text box that appears, type power, choose "change the energy saving settings.

In this dialog box, you will find the brightness setting.  Drag the pointer to a place that gives you the visibility.

There are two settings for laptops, one for battery and one for power.  The first is designed to save battery power and to extend the responsibility of the customer.  It does not matter if you are in power.

  • My dell 540 desktop studio will not power

My desktop was working fine the other day, and then I stopped it for the night.  Went to turn on in the am and no power.

the green light in the back was also.  So detached everything.  move to a new point of sale.  Green light in the back just

now, but when I push the power on button on the front panel that the computer will power not and the green light on the back

turns off.  So I unplugged again.   I pressed the power button on the front for a minute.  plug in green light is on the power of thrust

not the power of computing and the light on the back turns off button on the front.   I am at a loss.  My computer is ready for the Junk

If you're comfortable working around computers, you can try the following:

Note: The only 100% POWER supply test method, is to install a known working power.

Unplug the power cord, hold the power button in for about 15-20 seconds, open the case, disconnect the power connector 24-pin motherboard and jumping the Green wire to one of the black wires, plug in the power cord and the power of the system, if food and case fans and disk hard drive performance then the power supply should be good.

Note: Do not remove the wires from the plug, use a small piece of wire or a paper clip as a rider.

Extract supply and the system still does not work, yet once remove the power cord, hold button power in a few seconds to discharge residual power, reconnect the connector 24 pin to the motherboard.

Remove any PCI video card [as appropriate], memory cards, all the devices, unplug data cables and power to all readers, check that the cable from the front panel is connected to the motherboard, without anything else connected to the system, reconnect the power cable and power the system on.

If you get any beep codes or there is difference in the indication of the LED on the power button, it would seem that the motherboard is dead, or maybe the processor.

Note the processor will rarely fail.

  • I have Mozilla Ffox on a Dell Vostro Desktop computer, connected to a HP-Officejet 6500. The printer prints internal drive, but don't print Web sites. The printer ejects only a single sheet of blank paper.

The version of Firefox 4.0.1 and Windows 7 operating system are
    correctly identified below.
Still, my printer prints not websites, including Yahoo mail. The printer seems to respond to Web sites, but only ejects a single sheet of blank paper when printing is initialized.

Just to be sure, everything is covered:

    1. Reset you all the preferences of print.printer , as indicated in brackets in step 2, who were in "BOLD", not only print.print_printer preference?
    2. You you exit Firefox (Firefox button > exit OR file > exit, if you use the Menu bar), and then wait a few seconds and restart Firefox before testing the change according to step 4?
    3. I have a HP 6200 series. Don't forget, if yours is a multifunction printer that you have NOT enabled the fax (i.e., "HP Officejet 6200 series" NOT 'HP Officejet 6200 series fax') in the name field of the printer on the screenshot (CTRL + P).
