Dell Dimension 1100 (questions to install Win7)

Hello all;

I often build custom systems, but a family member recently asked me to install Windows 7. Never, I love working on systems of selling retail, still have problems. His computer is a Dell Dimension 1100, which was Windows XP.

That is the problem. On the Dell, I set the bios to boot from the DVD drive so it would go to the Win7 Installer. When starting it boots from the drive and crosses the loading Windows screen install. However, after this point, it error. I even tried to connect an external DVD drive to run the disc, however it never recognizes the DVD USB drive. So the next step I took, is pulling on the drive and attaching it to my own system. From there on, I deleted the partitions and install a new copy of Win7 64 bit on the disk. It worked perfectly, and I then he attached in the Dell. But now when I boot the Dell, it goes through the bios first screen, then loading errors. The exact error it shows is ' primary drive 1 not found, secondary drive 1 not found. "It seems that it is no longer detects the hard drive." In the bios, go to Configuration of training and by choosing Primary Drive, it shows the Seagate drive.

I do not know exactly why the player is no longer detected. I've looked at this he hung and attached fine 3 times now. I had only loose the power and IDE cable. I've attached screenshots below of the start screen and errors and the bios settings.

If someone could find out what happened, or why the Dell does not detect the drive, it would be more help and a solution if possible. I put the disk in my system, and it detected very well and boots into Windows. So it seems Dell refuses to boot from the system drive and does not detect, even if it appears in the Bios.

Don't think that lightning strike twice in the same place.  A few weeks ago, lightning struck close enough to home to fry my workstation 220 motherboard and modem from Comcast.  The same thing happened about this time last year.  Both times, it was close enough to feel the concussion on the INSIDE of the House.

My fallback position is a Dimension of 1100, which transfer parts in the deceased workstation.  Because it'll be awhile before I can rebuild the work station, I decided to put both hard drives in the Dimension.  Of course, there is a tray for a single.  The second hard drive is now in the space for the second CD/DVD, and it just seems unprofessional.

Is there a Dell tray for two hard drives which falls in the case of the Dimension 1100?  There is an adapter two parts available, but it looks like a two-piece adapter, not a part of Dell.

Thanks for the reply, but I have an OT962 tray in the machine and another on the way to eBay.  My other significant says when she doesn't understand me, it's because I can't explain right.  So... Let try me again.  I put the two OT962s with a kind of clamps, but by doing this, it'll take a bit of work to do and undo, if I need or that you want to remove a hard drive.  Apart from a hole in the chassis, for the screw that holds the second OT962 in place.  I was hoping to find a single pan to keep the TWO drives in place, one that just fits into the Dimension 1100 and screw up 'easy peasy'.  I have maybe just bite the bullet and make the clamping shtik.  I'll let you know how it works.  Thank you, again.

As far as I know, a Dimension 1100 'Double Hard Drive Tray"has never been made, either by Dell or any third party parts manufacturers.

Because the Dimension 1100 uses a chassis of MITAC ATX as Dimension 4600 and the Dimension 2300/2350/2400/3000/4700/1100, you can use the same instructions to install the hard drive platters, see pages 17 & 18 here:

  • Dell Dimension 2400 HD failure. installing new HD

I have a Dell Dimension 2400. The computer crashed and the computer shows now no hard drive installed. I removed the hard drive and put it in one of my other computers, and my computer does not recognize the drive as a hard disk.

I put another hard drive in my Dell, (same 40 MB; but different mfg) and the new hard drive is not recognized as a hard drive. I go into the configuration and it shows the diskette and cd installed, but not installed hard drive. Looking at the motherboard, is there that one connection for HDD in these models, so cannot plug into any other manor. Put the jumper to master on and cable that SELECT on but again Dell shows no HDD installed.

The orig Dell hard drive, does not present as a drive in my work computer, but I'm trying to replace it with that.

When I insert the OS disc that came with the system, it starts repairing and loads the files, but cannot format the hard drive and doesn't declare any installed hard drive.

Assuming that the drive hard orig failed, and the new hard drive is a drive to work, are there specifics on something special that needs to be done when you install a new hard drive in a Dell Dimension 2400? I am unable to find all the technical manuals on how to install a new hard drive in my Dell, even though I have all of the orig CD that came from Dell.

    Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thank you...

Contact Dell, but are not very optimistic.

Find an OEM version of Windows XP Home Edition (friend, family, co-worker, a friendly match, IT supports the person) and hope that you can always read the product key on the machine label.

The case-, it would make a good Ubuntu machine.  ;-)

  • Installing drivers after Windows XP reinstall on Dell Dimension 2350 with Dell resource disk

    Hi all

Recently, I did a clean reinstall of Windows XP (home edition) on my Dell Dimension 2350. Everything went well. Now, I need to install the appropriate drivers. I have the Dell resource disk and this is where the problem starts.
As noted elsewhere, after reinstallation of that display on the screen of the disk resource is as it is in 'Safe Mode '. I was aware of this. Therefore, the search criteria screen resources drive was a little bigger than the screen of the monitor. I managed to its size to fit the screen, but this really isn't the problem, is the following: the search criteria options I have in the dropdown menus (on screen) are the following:

System model: all, DXC061, DXP0G1 Dimension, Dimension E521, DM061, Dimension C521, XPS710 (who, if necessary, to choose?)

Operating system: (I think I got this one) all, Windows XP

Topic: (maybe this one too), Dell Diagnostics, Diagnostics, drivers, Applications, utilities

For the life of me I can't understand the correct drivers, I am to install *. Windows XP appears in the menu of the operating system. I know enough about the order of installation, but as I said, I'm a little confused on the selection of the drivers from the disc. This computer is not connected to the internet at the moment so I can't download and use any kind of pilot program. Other research have confused me more far and provided no precise answer to this problem.
If anyone can enlighten me on the solution step by step to this (I think "Dell resource disk for Dummies"), I would be extremely grateful.

    Thank you all!

    * If it will help, I went in (with "Show Hidden Files" active) Device Manager and it shows (with the yellow question mark) are:
Other devices: Ethernet Controller, multimedia Audio Controller, video controller (VGA Compatible).

You need, in the order of installation:

    1. Driver Chipset
    2. Video driver (depends on what video card)
    3. Audio driver
    4. Network driver (depends on who you are)
    5. Modem driver, if you are using a modem

Go to the Support page and put in your Service tag. He expected to give you the drivers you need. You can download them to any PC and copy it to a USB key for installation on 2350.

You only need applications, if you actually use them (for example, Roxio, Jasc Paintshop, etc.).

Then install your antiviral software and get in line on the Microsoft Update site for all patches and updates.

Please keep in mind that XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, and they stopped release of the security fixes for XP and IE9, more than 1 year. So they're all two full of security holes and put your data personal in danger.

  • Dell Dimension 2400 desktop w/XP Home Edition: video card Question

Hello people... last week, I got a desktop pc from a friend who walked away, Dimension 2400 desktop with Windows XP Home Edition. I plan on upgrading it and either sell it or it give. Last night, I ordered a titled graphics card "ATI Radeon 9250 card 256 MB DDR PCI"... which, after purchasing, I discovered via google and other search engines it takes to 220W - 250W power... the power supply installed is 200W... fundamental question is: should I upgrade the PSU? ". Or 200 will do well. Thank you!!!

    Hello

    Welcome to the community

Have you tested the video card? The computer works fine with the new card? In this configuration, I suggest to upgrade the power supply. You can get 250W or higher power. If the computer is on, you can wait for that stop at random. Let me know if you still need assistance.

  • Question for Dell Dimension 3000 IDE connector

    Hello

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but please be patient with me. I have a loyal Dell Dimension 3000, 2 GB RAM, P4 processor, 1x250GB HDD burners 2xDVD-R, 1x3.5in floppy drive hard.

My Question is how to be able to add a second HDD. I have no way to connect to one. The cable I have all what it connects to the current. There is no way with my current cable to connect a second HDD. I don't know what type of connector IDE cable I need or where to buy it, or if there is even an option to one.

I have the tray and extra HDD ready and waiting but no way to connect. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    John Briggs

The dimension 3000 will support two hard drives, but you will need support for additional hard drive and one connector three IDE 18 "L, 80-wire cable in water data, which is connected to the primary IDE hard drive and motherboard J6J2 PRI IDE connector, see page 38

Dimension 3000 second hard drive installation.

There are no instructions for the installation of a second IDE/EIDE hard drive in dimension 3000, but as the Dimension 4600 has the same case and chassis, you can use the 4600 instructions for the physical installation, see page 18:

    http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dimension_desktops/dimension-4600_service%20manual_en-us.PDF

Set the jumpers the second hard drive for "Cable Select" and connect it to the middle connector of the IDE data cable, which is attached to the main hard drive.

After you have installed the reader, enter the setup and make sure the hard drive is set to Auto [on].

To access the configuration, press the F2 key after a restart of the computer.

For the details of the system configuration, go to page 34, here:

    http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dimension_desktops/dimension-3000_service%20manual_en-us.PDF

Use disk management to partition, format, and assign a drive letter on additional hard drive after installation for Windows to recognize the hard drive.

No you can't. Given that it's a Dell and it came with Windows XP pre-installed, it's an OEM of Windows version.  The biggest drawback of an OEM version (at least in the USA) is that its license it permanently binds to the computer first it is installed on. He can never legally be moved to another computer, sold, or given to outside (except with the original computer). If the computer dies or is stolen, your license dies with him.

And let me ask you as if you checked to make sure everything on the Dell is compatible with Windows 7, and there are Windows 7 drivers for all your hardware that requires it.
