I had Windows Vista ultimate on my Dell Studio laptop which consisted of 3 partitions (OS, recovery and OME).
In order to complete a clean install, I deleted all partitions and create a new 1 and formatted it, but I am informed that the installation was unable to create a new partition system or locate an existing partition.
I tried in IDE and ACHI, but neither enable Sir to go beyond that. I am booting from the CD with Windows 7. If someone is able to help, they explain in layman's terms, as I am a relative novice.

The disc could be waiting to see the things that you have deleted.

***SOLUTION*** This is a hardware problem, not a software problem. I am running the factory Win 7 home x64 and dual booting Ubuntu 12.04 x64, with this exact problem in both OS's. What I did is I took out the keyboard and the palm rest (there should be a tear down guide put out by Dell) and you should see a coin cell battery. I took it out for about 10 seconds and then put it back in. I also checked all the other connections and removed and reseated the HDD. I then went into BIOS and made sure there weren't any funky settings. It now shuts down, suspends, and wakes properly (only tested in Ubuntu 12.04) I have no clue how or why, but that's what did it.

From my research, this error message indicates that you have an old version of Samsung drivers installed on the computer.
Several clients are faced with this question after that they have updated the version of Android to 4.3, but the version of the driver is not updated.

Both came with a CD to reinstall Windows.Am I allowed to install Vista from that original CD on the desktop?

Here are the troubleshooting steps you have to try to solve your problem.
Step 1:
(a) click on start - Control Panel
(b) change Classic view - sound - recording tab
(c) right-click in the empty space under Select recording device
(d) show disabled devices: If the microphone is disabled enable it
Try you restart the computer and let Windows Vista again detects your sound card again.
Step 2:
Make sure that you have installed the latest compatible audio drivers Windows Vista version, if not we strongly recommend to download the latest audio driver for your Web site to computer manufacturers for your sound card or onboard audio chipset.
Plug the microphone of your sound card / audio card mother (usually pink in color for micro) pine
Step 3:
After that, go to control panel > sounds and Audio devices settings. Check to see if the microphone is detected by Vista.
