Dell Vostro 420 refusing of lights

Hello.. I just recently acquired an old Dell Vostro 420 pc. There BIOS 1.3.0 and Core2Quad Q8300 processor.

The question that I have is that most of the time he refuses to turn on. I press the power button and the blue led turns on for a second then turns off. The light on the power supply green all the time it is plugged into the wall outlet. After disconnecting the system from the power outlet for about two minutes and him plugging in, the machine will feed.

I ran the Dell diagnostics on this machine and reported that everything is good. If I have a faulty power supply?

I wasn't able to power my Vostro 420 upward after that main HQ was briefly interrupted.  The symptom was when I pushed the power button, click on it once and flashed yellow power light briefly once.  And that's all.  The power of the machine remained low.

After working on it for a few hours, I noticed that I can always power the machine if I unplug the ethernet cable USB and mouse.  Once the machine turns on, I plug the mouse and cable network back in, it works fine.  Very strange!

This feels like a motherboard problem?

  • Dell Vostro 420 - fan not mounted

    Hello

I take my Vostro 420 with Core2Quad Q9650, but I would like to start making serious games with him, and I'm afraid that the CPU fan and chassis fan never accelerate ramp with the heat.

I ran Prime95 x 64 with HWMonitor, temperature monitoring.  It is in the high 60s and the CPU fan stayed at 1300 rpm or more and the frame of the fan 800 rpm and has never changed.

I tried to run Speedfan and it has correctly detected the fan speed, but I can't change it.  Speed already shows 100% which is incorrect, because I know that they are not turning at high speed and pressing on the top and bottom in SpeedFan has no effect.

Can release you a BIOS update that corrects the inactive PWM fan control?

    Thank you

Edit: I am aready using the 1.3.0 latest BIOS.

    Hello

It is a Committee of OEM Foxconn (G45A01), and Dell just used a regular Phoenix BIOS (and has not paid for it.  BIOS string reads "Phoenix Bios of demo" or something like that).  There is no fan of detection failure, but I have the original fans in there.

The regulator detects in Speedfan and the ROTATION speed is displayed correctly, but I can't change the speed.

It is most likely a very simple solution.  Foxconn could fix for Dell in a jiffy ;)

    Thank you

  • Vostro 420 USB ports cannot be turned off

If you stop a PC, provide all power to the USB ports?

If I keep my Dell Vostro 420, fans to keep silence and the PC shuts off, but it still powers the USB ports.

    Is this correct behavior?

(I have two other PCs two Dells and when they stopped they provide NO power to USB ports)

How do you know that the USB ports are always under tension after stopping?

The answer to your question is "it depends." Some newer computers have PowerShare, which means at least one USB port is still under tension after the stop so that you can charge a device, for example, a cell phone, which is connected to the PC, even if the PC is turned off.

See specifically PowerShare mentioned in none of the Vostro 420 docs, but this does not mean that it didn't.

And remember, even if the PC is turned off, the motherboard continues to receive "electricity", as indicated by the LED on the motherboard that needs to be on whenever the PC is connected to a working outlet, even if the PC is turned off.

You can connect the PC through a power strip and cut the tape off the PC normally in Windows, so there is no power to the wall. And if you set the BIOS to restart automatically after a power failure, the PC restarts automatically as soon as you turn on the power strip. Handy if you connect PC and monitor to the same Strip, so a switch on both and starts booting.

  • Power supply Dell Vostro 220 questions

    Hello

We have a Dell Vostro 220, which has power problems.  He started intermittently but now it very rarely powers upward.

The green light in the back where the power cable goes in turns.

When I press the switch, it flashes orange once. Then the two fans start but stop after a second. Then they both start, less than a second. The power switch will Flash orange one more time. Then nothing. In the past, we could try once again and she would start, then it got worse and we need to repeat 10 or 20 times to make it work.  Now it seems that we could try all day and he would never start.

I opened it to the top. Disconnected and reconnected everything and try again - it worked fine. But the next day it turns on again.  So I opened, and even once and this time I changed the CMOS battery. I've start it 3 times now and it has worked well, and the user used for the rest of the day.

However, this morning, he refused to start up again. Same problem as before.

Is there anything else I could try?

    Thank you very much

    Peter.

  • freezing of Dell vostro 3700

I have a dell vostro that I bought with a bad hard drive. After replacing the hard drive and install windows 7 on it, it started to freeze on me after that I installed the graphics drivers from Nvidia.

I looked online and I thought it was an overheating issue. then I downloaded speedfan and the temperature was about 76-84

so I bought the new thermal paste and clean everything inside the laptop.

After completing the cleaning and put new thermal paste

the should fell to 50-70, it worked fine for about 1 hour, after he began to freeze up again.

then I uninstalled the Nvidia driver and the gel stopped.

I did a bios update and installed all the drivers up to date

I always have the same question.

the temperature is about 46, and it freezes.

When it freezes, I can't do anything. I can hear the fan speed,

There are no beeps or lights.

Thanks for the help guys I have set myself.

It turns out that one of the rams is bad.

After removing the bad memory stick live. The laptop had the same problem of freezing.

After that some research it turns out that computer supports DDR3 1066 MHz or 1333 MHz SODIMM DDR3

    Type of ram.

The bad stick was the original that I bought with which is DDR3 1333 MHz

And the problem was that the second stick DDR3 12800 MHz.

So after replace the two matched sticks of DDR3 1333 MHz he has worked for more than 5 hours without any problem. !

  • Dell Vostro 220 does not turn on

Hello I have a Dell Vostro 220 desktop computer purchased in 2009.

I noticed yesterday that is not switching on.  When the power cord is plugged into the outlet, I see a green light on the back on the power supply (under the voltage 110V setting) but that's all.  By pressing the push button on the front, nothing, absolutely nothing happens.  No fan, no LED inside.

What can be wrong here? bad power supply or bad mother or push button simply bad diet?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    ndhaya

    It is a Vostro 220 Mini-Tower

No, the power supply fan does not work.

Power LED button is also DISABLED

No there are no beeps at all.

Apart from the green power light on the back near the power cord, there is nothing else...

    ndhaya

First, try to connect the power cord directly into another outlet and see if it makes a difference.

No difference, then replace the power supply with a unit of work to 'know '.

More generic standard ATX power supplies, with a 24-pin or 20 + power connector 4 - pin main motherboard, with or without the on/off switch, would be compatible with the Vostro 220 m

You should be able to buy a compatible power supply either a local computer or online store.

  • Windows 8 compatibility with Vostro 420 BIOS v1.3.0

    Vostro 420
    Windows 7 64-Bi
BIOS 1.3.0 (last update, version 2010)

    Hello:

The Vostro 420 yourself running Windows 8 when it comes out next month?

And the Vostro 420 DEP support bios? (I read Windows 8 needs a bios with the support of the DEP)

    Thank you

    Hello

The Vostro 420 has not been tested by Dell with Windows 8. However if you use Windows 7 on your system it will avoid any compatibility issues.
You can also check if hardware DEP is available on your system by performing the following steps.

How to verify that hardware DEP is working in Windows:

    1. Click Start, click run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
      WMIC OS Get DataExecutionPrevention_Available
    3. If the output is "TRUE," hardware DEP is available.

After the official launch of Windows 8, pilots cannot be available on the Dell support site. However, you can always check the site of the manufacturer for the appropriate drivers. You can also consult the following link for more information on the upgrade of Windows 8. http://Dell.to/SyrDsU

  • Fan power supply ATX Vostro 420 * or shot? !

I'm looking to replace the power supply in my Vostro 420 with a standard ATX power supply.

New ATX power supplies have a large 120mm positioned on top of the PSU fan. Does this or *?

It is important because the Vostro is not really compatible with ATX design - the case has a solid above the PSU Panel so that the power supply unit must be mounted with the fan down on the mother/CPU card. A fan which breath would simply blow the hot air on the CPU.

Conversely, a fan who * would * hot air from the motherboard in the power supply and on the side.

None of these options is great.

I am puzzled how to mount a new ATX PSU and if the fan * or breath.

What is the best way to mount a new ATX PSU in a case of Vostro 420?

The shift of the 4 screws on the back, you CANNOT point the fan at the top.  He is pointing down and draws air upward.  Graphics also of VENTILATION at the back. AFAIKT ZERO types bring in air from the rear.  Even the location VENTILATION fans in the back.

I hear from the front the front of the case.  The power supply is located on top of the CPU fan and hoovers to the top of the hot air and sends it to the back of the case.   This is the norm for almost all Dell I can think.  There are fans of aspiration to the front of the case and video cards and blow hot air from the PSU to the rear.

  • Dell Vostro Mic disappeared

Hi there, given that my computer is back to have a new hard drive and the general cleaning I don t seem to have a microphone. The computer is a Dell vostro 1700. This really happened about two years previously while my pc is under warranty and Dell support took control remote and fixed it. Now its happened again made, someone knows how to turn it back. I've been devices etc. and the mic option is it says Mic no line in and if I right click and uncheck the box or the other of the boxes he always says no detected Mic. So differently than before on the same computer I can't Skype my dad who lives abroad or something that needs a microphone. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Hello
My name is Larry and I work for social media and

    Community team at Dell.

If the microphone was working fine before the HARD drive has been replaced and the operating system has been installed. Please check if the sound drivers are installed fine.
Line in option will be for an external mic. Right click on the sound on the taskbar icon, click on recording devices and checked if there is a detected internal mic.
Click the internal mic properties and ensure that the levels are to the max and start-up level too.
To check if the internal MIC is able to record. Click on Start - Programs - Accessories - sound recorder.
Click Start record and talk to see if she is able to save and try to play the recorded file and check.
If one doesn't work always not so micro internal is a failure and you can also check with an external mic.

  • Error code: Trying 80072F8F update windows after fresh install - Dell Vostro 1510 - (Windows 7 x 64 PRO)

Hello, I'm trying to update windows after installation and I get error code 80072F8F.  After looking for other pages, I checked my BIOS date and time are correct and Windows as well.

    Laptop: Dell VOSTRO 1510
    Windows 7 x 64 PRO

I already activated Windows (silly me to check everything actually works) and I need a solution as soon as POSSIBLE.

I needed Windows update to try and fix a number display adapter (card intel not giving not external display resolutions)- but that's another question.

I hope that there is a fix out there somewhere in the ether.
