Dell XPS 17 3D edition with no 3G

Hi all

My specific Dell's XPS 17 with 3D screen (model: XPS L702X). I checked the product support and on this laptop, it states that a card 3G is not available on the 3D Panel. I wonder why they excluded the card 3G of this laptop. As far as I know, a 3D Panel has no effect on a card 3G (when installed). Or did they used the port for the 3G card for 3D Panel that I find very little likely.

I contacted the customer service with a ticket, but the people that have helped me are not very informative, not to mention the use of the English language is atrocious. Only, they cannot tell me a reason, (out of their reach is the answer) and request more support on how to get one in my laptop just brings back me to square one with them not understanding me and telling me he only is not supported.

All the tips of you wizzes out there to make this 3G card in this laptop, or how to get one and do work?

Thank you very much.

Hi Wipeout 3,

My name is Shomprakash and I'm Dell's Social Media team. I checked your question and I must say, it's a very good question.

We have a reason to not include 3G (WWAN card) on the L702X systems built with a 3D screen.

3D screen specifications allow no room for the Assembly of cable antenna required for the card 3G function properly. These aerial cables through the rear LCD of coverage on non - 3D models and activate the card WWAN work with the necessary signals.

This is according to the design guidelines. However, I suggest you to use a USB dongle, provider of respective services to take advantage of the connectivity of level 3G on your computer. I would also like to congratulate you on your choice of product. The 702 X is an excellent machine when it comes to 3d games. We wish you a wonderful time with your Dell machine!

I hope this helps. If you have follow-up questions, the right answer here. I'll be happy to help you to the best of my knowledge and abilities.

Kind regards

  • Dell XPS 15 (L502x) problems with mSATA, it is even compatible?

    Hey all,.

After you run out of warranty and immediately having HDD, I decided to install an mSATA SSD for faster boot times (with the possibility to keep a large spinning for storage disk). I bought a Liteon M3M 128 GB module and installed in the mini-pci-e slot in the compartment under the laptop.

After that installation there no change, nothing picked up in the bios, nothing through a live Linux OS, nothing in the installer of windows and nothing in Windows itself (when I gave up and replaced the drive rotating and re-installed).

I've updated to the latest version of the BIOS (A12) but this does not make any difference, I just googled and there is mention of a disabling Intel RST, but this option is not available for me in BIOS

Is there something that I have done is wrong, it is likely that the device is defective, do I need some kind of pilots of special controller for installation of windows 7 or is this model of Dell just simply not compatible with mSTATA?

    See you soon,.

    -Dan

    Hi Dan,.

XPS L502X supports the devices in the solid state (SSD) of 256 and 512 GB of capacity. However, I'm sorry to inform him that it does not support the mSATA disks. You can replace the hard drive with an SSD in order to improve the performance of the system.

Please let me know if you need further information.

  • Fan Dell XPS PC upstairs with no start-up of the thread

    Hello

There is a strange problem in my PC. Recently, I haven't used the PC for a few days, but when I turned it on today, could hear a fan noise noisy coming to the PC with the diagnostic lights 1, 3 and 4 illuminated and a white screen in power save. I tried to understand what happened and when I pressed on the DVI plug into the slot of the PC, the PC fan slows down (at normal speed) and the PC began to start. It happened every time you start (in this case, twice). Remedies?

  • Looking to update the graphics card in my Dell XPS 8900 EVGA GeForce GTX 960.

I have a Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition that I bought a few months ago. I want to upgrade the OEM GeForce 745 of GTX that it came with an EVGA GTX 960.

I have the Dell XPS 8900 (processor i7 - 6700 k), 32 GB of memory, 2 TB HDD + SSD of 32 GB m2, monitor cache Dell UP2516D and Windows 10 Pro. I'll add a second monitor Dell UP2516D soon and later add an SSD and move the OS and applications on.

My needs are not at stake. I mainly business applications (MS-Office, including access and project), finance and investment, and a lot of photo and video editing.  Photo editing software uses the GPU if I update.

EVGA has suggested either of the following, based on what would be good:

    http://www.EVGA.com/products/product.aspx?PN=04G-P4-1961-KR

    http://www.EVGA.com/products/product.aspx?PN=04G-P4-3963-KR

    These cards are almost identical except;

    #1 is long of 6.8 ", has 1 BIOS, 1 fan and use 128 watts for $160

#2 is 10.1 "long, has 2 BIOS, 2 fans and consume 160 watts for $170

I thought I would replace the graphics card myself, but once I opened the folder, I was wondering if the two cards will even fit.  I saw that other people have swapped their graphics card, so it must be possible.

When I look in my case, the existing graphics card is a single location.  These two cards are double slot.  In addition, it seems that there are a few transistors just next to the existing card.  When you install a card double slot, the new map is just overlap the transistors under?

Finally, in view of these two cards and the XPS 8900 case, is it possible to put the card in?  Is it worth the extra $ 10 earn an extra BIOS and fan, to the detriment of one more card of time and 12 watts?

Any help or thoughts are greatly appreciated, thank you.

Dual cards fit without any problem. Many have improved their 8900 XPS and 8700 with cards that need two slots of width.

I prefer the models dual fan as they run cooler. They have a bigger heat sink and with relatively low heat from GTX 960, some are silent at idle because the fans do not work.

For example, MSI GTX 970 son fan only above a certain temp that only happens every game. Maybe the EVGA card did the same thing. It is nice to have a quiet system at idle.

Regarding the adjustment, the MSI GTX 970 games 4 G card Dimensions are (mm) 140 x 277 x 35. Length and height are tight but it fits without cutting.

In addition, as noted speedstep you run SATA cables under the card. I replaced the SATA cables with longer cables, so they route toward the front of the box, then under the graphics card and upward.

This thread has many cards different people have added. (the link is on page 26) and about the halfway point is my son with the MSI GTX 970 system, which (I think) is slightly larger that the EVGA 960 you listed.  It also shows the case mod to add a front fan.

  • Format and reinstall Windows 10 - Dell XPS 13 9343

    Hello

I have a Dell XPS 13 9343 provided with windows 8.1 and I have upgraded to windows 10.
I would like to format and do a clean install of windows 10 and after that to create a dual boot with ubuntu.
I don't want to retrieve anything, just in any format.
    My question is:
    1. What is the best way to do it? Is there a preparation necessary before formatting (except backup)? If anyone can point me to a relevant detailed guide, it will be great.
    2. do I need to care that I want to install ubuntu in dual boot, when I format and install windows? Or just to install after windows is already installed?
    Thank you.

10 Windows will recreate all the partitions it needs. If you want to save your old settings factory Dell backup and restore use to make a bootable USB:

  • Dell XPS 8700 - Recommended 500W PSU +? (for GTX 970)

Hi I have a dell xps 8700 currently equipped with a GTX 745, I want to upgrade to a GTX 970.

I know that this has been a big problem in the past, but I just want to check a few things: is - it works even in the first place? Replace the power supply and update the BIOS to a10? I'm hoping to get a definitive right or close enough answer to the question of whether it works or not, especially since he was a few months after the last major discussion forums.

And the main question, which is a recommended PSU is going well replace my current 460W one?

CORSAIR CS750M works in every Dell I have ever installed in it.

No power problem.  You may need to remove the optical drive so that you can get the old and the new, because it's a very tight fit.

Once in the optical drive can back up.

550W is too small.  Generic 550W power supply is ACE is NOT GOOD as the Dell 305 w PSU.

    The EPS12V 2.92 specification guarantees 170w combined on the 5V / 3.3V rails and 20W on the 5VSB and 45 amps on a single 12V rail.

Note on the label for the Dell they provide 20W on the 5VSB.

    That's why I recommend an EPS12v Corsair CS750M

You need a certified Power Supply EPS12V 2.92

Supply Dell 20-25W + 5VSB and most of the cheapo units have 10W or less.   Dell Supply guaranteed 130 to 180W on 3.3v / 5v rail and other are not.

Minimum recommended unit is CORSAIR CS750M.

  • DELL XPS 13 touchpad problem

    Hi all!

I will try to explain the problem as well as possible. Lets see if I'm not the only one with this problem.

So first of all, touch-pad of the Dell XPS worked pretty well with the last update for windows 8.1 Pro systems. And when I talk of the button I mean the gesture of finger multi thingy. After the release of windows 10 it still work quite well and after a same update added some new features that make it work touch-pad of almost like Mac. BUT after awhile, they published an another update, then, touch-pad became a complete *. The option multi gesture suggested that all tapping with three fingers, it will evoke Cortana and everything by sliding upward with three fingers must turn on the switch of the task and drag to the low reduced all windows. But what it actually is: while tapping with 3 fingers evokes Cortana, while sliding to the top, he mentions Cortana and while sliding down, it opens the settings (which is not yet included in the parameters of the multi touch-pad finger gesture).

I tried change the driver for an old, reinstall the new case is just something with the file of the driver. Nothing works. She keeps just be * and that's all

I can't contact support technology guide for I ask some advice here. If someone has the same thing or know the solution I'd be happy to hear it.

    Thanks in advance,

    Georg

Yep, it's a problem with the drivers from Dell which has been around since the beginning of August, at least (just Google and you will see), so clearly, they're never going to correct something. They are too busy to load all of their laptops with new crapware. Useless company.

  • Problem Dell xps 15 L502x charger.

I have a dell XPS 15.  Before a few days I started getting an error message: charger is plugged in but does not support.  Anyone have any ideas what it is?  Thanks in advance.

I tried to re install quickset64, but he did not change this problem.

I ask you all to out get me of this problem.

I had the same problem and I bought two batteries and always the same, I thought to buy new charger but goanna is to be too much for this stupid laptop. its cost very expensive like MAC but that nothing according to MAC and I got a new TOSHIBA with the same specifications that my i7 Dell XPS 15 L502X stupid, with the price less than $375 and is much more than Dell which never recommended by me to any.

If Dell respect his client and it is a respectful organization, should be remembered this point in the market and replacement with a new or to pay less. In this way, it will keep its reputation in a top.

    Thank you

  • Dell XPS Desktop Power Supply Upgrade 8700

    Hello

I'm sure that some of you are aware that the Dell XPS 8700 is equipped with a reasonable 460W PSU modest, Delta which is enough to power 750 it GTX because it gives him a little leeway. However, the GTX 750 Ti is not able to run some slightly newer games to high heat. I am looking for a diet that is not only in the case of the 8700, but will not damage the motherboard! I heard that someone has tried to use a corsair PSU and proved the 6 pin 24v instead of the 12v that uses the motherboard, this has resulted in it having to buy a new motherboard I want.

    My specs:

    16 GB RAM DDR3

    32 GB SSHD

    I7 4790 3.6 GHz

    2 TB HARD DRIVE

    460 delta PSU

    GTX 750 Ti

The case that comes with the XPS 8700 lol

I'd be very grateful if someone with experience could help me.

I think the two dimensions that need to be accurate are the height and width (5.9 "x 3.4") and the variable is the length.

I have a seasonic X 650 is 5.9 "x 3.4" x 6.3 "deep and it's a fit tight, but doable." PSU OEM is subject. 25 "shorter, but I do not measure it recently and I forgot the exact size.

The AX760 corsair is the same dimensions as the seasonic X-650 and it is reported also to adapt.

This thread may be of interest because it lists what many use.

  • Dell XPS 9100 compatible with Nvidia GTX 980/970?

All the world either of these new cards video 980/970 series installed in a dell xps 9100? Or whether they will work with the 9100, in particular motherboard/bios original card?

I plan to upgrade my studio xps Dell 9100 (2010 I7 930 12 GB of ram, motherboard Dell 05DN3X Intel X 58 Intel ICH10R) with a new video card in replacement of the Radeon HD 5870. My choice of card is the new Nvidia GTX 970.

The GTX 970 and 980 GTX are based on the new Maxwell Nvidia cards with high specifications on page and good price. While they are not suitable for the power of the XPS 9100 (two GTX cards consume less energy than the 5870), I don't know if my original xps 9100 motherboard (with a bios updated from July 2014 on the site of dell driver) is compatible with the gtx 970. BIOS office 8700 recent Dell was not compatible/created a problem of black screen, and Dell has released a updated Bios updated for the 8700 in December 2014 that apparently works fine now with the 980/970 series. I wouldn't drop the $350 on a video card that didn't work with my 9100

I use the Dell 9100 for video editing (Sony Vegas Pro 13, Hitfilm 3, NewBlue and other programs based GL/CL) works more 3d animation with iclone (who prefer Nvidia). I could probably get another year or two out of it with a newer video card... otherwise I'll put all useful to a construction of the self.

I'd appreciate any comments on it. Maybe Chris from Dell of this forum would know that he shares the fix for dell bios enabled the 980 work with 8700.  Thanks to Chris if he answers or if he can answer my question gtx 970 for me and other 9100 owners.

Just this moment installed a MSI gtx 970 in my 3 1/2 years, xps 9100. Original motherboard. The only thing I've really updated over the years is the memory.

    Processor Intel Core i7-960 @3. 2 GHz (8 MB L2 Cache)
    16 GB OF RAM, DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-12800
    NVIDIA GeForce (r) GTX 970 4 GB
    Dell XPS 9100 desktop
    Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) SP1

525 Watt POWER supply was more than enough. You must use both the point 6 and point 8 plugs not one or the other. Biggest problem was to find a second source of power. The 6 + 2 plug, but don't think that the other was there. He was and is buried in the middle of a wire harness. A sheet of plain to 6 points. Just enough.

It works like a charm. Not at all of the start-up problems

  • Updates for the SSD of 32 GB LITEON m2 on a special edition of Dell XPS-8900.

Has anyone successfully upgraded Cache SSD m2 on their system XPS-8900?

I have a Dell XPS-8900 that I bought a few months ago, and you want to update the cache of hard drive SSD m2.  The system has 2 to 7200 RPM hard drive + Cache SSD of 32 GB m2, 16 GB of memory (which I'm upgrading to 32 GB) and the processor i7 - 6700 k.

I tried to replace it with either the Samsung 850 EVO m2 250 GB SSD or the Samsung 950 PRO NVMe 256 GB SSD.  I read in another post on the forum that the limit for XPS-8900 in the m2 slot was 256 GB.  Anyone know if this is correct?

If anyone has any ideas on how I can change my system to tighten a bit more performance out of my system, I'd greatly appreciate your ideas.  It seems a little slow at startup and loading applications than I expected.

It is not necessary to install a larger disk for use as a cache - it won't do much (if any) for performance.  There is a valid argument by replacing the disk cache with an SSD of larger m2 and then by installing the operating system on this drive (that is, running in native mode of SSD).  That WILL stimulate the acceptable performance.

I doubt that there is a limit on the capacity of the drive - but there is no doubt about the physical size of the map itself.  Note that this system is NOT wired with an interface of PCIe 4 ways - then install a player is not worth the extra cost, because it will be limited by the design of the motherboard.

  • Update hard disc on the special edition of Dell XPS-8900

Hello, I have a Dell XPS-8900 that I bought a few months ago, and you want to upgrade the hard drive.  There to 2, 7200 RPM hard drive + Cache SSD of 32 GB m2.  I noticed by looking at the disk management, it has 2 free sheet music; a 39 MB OEM Partition and 11.73 GB recovery Partition.  Both show that they are 100% free.  I created the recovery USB disk and it deleted the recovery Partition files.

Should I still have the Partition recovery or the OEM Partition?  When I switch to a new hard drive, is it possible to simply copy the partition of the OS?

Also, I thought that he would have an EFI System Partition.  Is that what I need or installation?

UEFI allows secure and start for 2 t boot partitions format: those are the two major differences, as well as the withdrawal of the restriction to have four primary partitions per disk.  Those who are not important here.

I don't think that there is a capacity limit on the m2 in height slot, but there is most likely a limitation of the physical size of the map itself which may restrict your ability.

You will get the best performance from the system running the operating system for one SSD drive for some.  You can easily find 2.5 "SATA SSD affordable up to 1 t in size now.  Drives 2.5 "tend to be less expensive than m2 format disks, although NVMe readers (whose prices are in the stratosphere), they are largely very reasonable in price for the exception.

I would not necessarily fear disks 3.5 "Toshiba - these are in large part the designs of Hitachi/HGST (Toshiba entered the market of disk 3,5 '' when WD resumed HGST - the Chinese Government opposed the consolidation to two manufacturers of records based in the United States and forced to WD to spin off plants making the disks 3.5" to Toshiba).  The HGST designs have a good reputation for reliability - much better than those of Seagate, for sure.

You are probably better off with a straight on the clone of the drive.  You can use the Windows Disk Administrator to change the partitions later.  I had the good luck of late with Macrium Reflect (free), but Acronis image works well - and Samsung provides a free version of it if you choose one of their SSDS.

  • Problems with Dell XPS 435 sound

    Hello:

I have a DELL XPS Studio desktop purchased in 2009 with Vista 64-bit OS. Until 3 days ago, the speakers on my computer worked. These are the original speakers that came with my BOSE Companion 2 multimedia pregnant computer. Initially, the sound was 100%, now it is suddenly down to 40%. I upgraded the speakers Bose one another and I will always have the same problem, my sound quality is reduced from 100 to 40%.

I checked all sound card drivers and they are up-to-date, I also checked the sound Manager file, and it is also in order. I also did a "sound test" and I can hear the sound on the left & right speakers, the problem is that when I tried to listen to music or listen to video online I hear a very low noise coming out of two speakers, almost like a whisper.

Can someone give me some tips fix - it.

    Hi Nathalie:

Thanks for your recommendation, I installed several audio drivers which have been recommended on the Dell Diagnostics page, but this has not resolved my problem of sound.  I think I probably need a new sound, in addition to the other parties. My computer is going on 4 years, his begins to fall apart, that I recently bought a replacement.
