I wanted to know if the HDMI on the Dell XPS 17 port was strictly out or if it is an input/output. If it is entered able what can I use to bring up the video input streams. Thanks for the help in advance.

The XPS 17 HDMI port is for video output only. Wherin you can connect a monitor or a HDMI-compatible TV. So, it displays the same image on the laptop, or can use a scope monitor. Here is the link to the manual for more details; http://Dell.to/MfS72r

I buy all my first SSD for my laptop Dell XPS 17 (L702x) (8T7CQS1). I managed to install the Samsung 840 pro (MZ-7PD256BW) at the HARD School of XPS drive, but the BIOS does not detect as a second HARD drive.
My BIOS version is the most recent: A19 (26/10/2012), I tried to load the BIOS default settings, but no change.
The SATA in the BIOS mode is AHCI.
What could I do with them?

Hi Kris,
Traction test drive 1 and put the SSD in this slot. Then boot in the BIOS to see if the drive is detected.

Dell XPS 12 and HDMI via displayport does not

I have a HDMI cable and an adapter Displayport 2 HDMI (purchaced with XPS 12) which works very well with another laptop of Dell, but not with my new XPS 12.
There's no signal at all. When I select "Duplicate" screening, the resolution is changed on the XPS 12 what looks like 4:3. If I select "Projector" only, he returned to "Duplicate" after a short period of time with a message indicating the success-no (don't remember the message). I tried installing on a Samsung TV and a brand new projector. As mentioned, the pair of cables works very well with an older another Dell laptop.
Anyone know this problem?

Here is an update of this curious history. The adapter HDMI of CableToGo worked once on the machine. However, I tested the adapter on two other laptops, and it worked without a hitch. Assuming it was driver related, we did a full reset on the machine without success. An engineer came today with a new motherboard and an adapter. The new adapter worked.
Conclusion: My Dell XPS 12 did not like the CableToGo displayport-HDMI adapter. It is difficult to say if the adapter is defective (it worked on other laptops) or if it's a general incompatibility problem. The fact that it worked once after reinstalling the driver was just bad luck.

I just got a new Dell XPS 17 with the i7-2760QM processor. When I try to run 8 Workstation with a 64-bit Windows 7 host, I get the following error:
I ran the compatibility tool and it said that my cpu was ok. I checked the bios and virtualization has been activated (the most recent Bios is too).

This sounds like a battery calibration problem. Try to run the battery down until your laptop off, then plug the AC adapter and see if it charges to 100%.

2 years ago I bought a computer laptop Dell 'XPS 17 (L702x)' my production code is
. I want to format my laptop and make "new" again, but I noticed that my windows product key is impossible to read. I can see a part of the key, but not all. It is xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx. In this way, I won't be able to re - install. Can you give me the missing part of my code? Where can I ask for it? I try to use a KeyFinder, but I know with certainty that they are 'find' the wrong code because I can read more than half of it and it is not matching. Please help me! The key finder gives the System Locked Preinstallation key which is used for activation OEM Dell Dell.

If you use the DVD to reinstall Dell your product should automatically enter the Dell SLP key and activate when a Dell BIOS is corrected. If you use a Windows 7 .iso (recommended because it includes Service Pack 1), then you can use the backup and restore of activation program and restore the activation product, as mentioned in step 11. A clean install of Windows 7 will help guide you through the installation process

Dell XPS L702X with Nvidia 3D Vision - HDMI problems

I recently bought some Dell XPS L702X 64 with Nvidia 3D Vision (NVIDIA GeForce GT 555 M).
1. it comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and I've upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit Utltimate.
2. I downloaded the Version of Windows 7 and I've changed the language to English, French.Everything works like magic with the exception of the exit HDMI from the PC to the TV (Sharp Aquos HD Ready - 2005 model).
The TV recognizes the signal between PC and it displays 768 WXGA and immediately the computer laptop & TV Pale white display screens.
To return the display on the laptop, I need to get out of the PC HDMI cable.
HDMI works fine on my TV while he receives an input signal of the «TV decoder»Waiting for your valuable contributions.

USB port - C Dell XPS 13 9350 and external storage
Hello everyone,
I have a 3.1 USB enclosure external (Vantec Nexstar USB 3.1, model # NST - 270a 31 - BK) that I connect to the USB - C (Thunderbird 3) of my XPS 13 laptop 9350 port. The player does not start even after using two different 3.1 USB cables. I installed all the USB drivers and Thunderbird from the Dell Web site and active port in the BIOS, but still have no chance to get the player to run.
That's when I plug the player into a standard USB port with a USB 3.0 cable, boots road to the top and is recognized by the laptop without problem. So if my diagnosis was made correctly, the USB box and wiring is not defective, so the problem must lie with the USB - C port. Has anyone successfully used port USB - C to access the external storage with a bit of luck?

In another thread ("XPS 13 9350 - SSD USB C 3.1 - very unstable/not usable '-I can not add links), the following fixed my problem by using a drive HARD USB 3.0 with the Dell USB - C for HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB3.1 adapter:
... the adapter USB - C and WiFi are kind of material and power wise. If you go to the options of the advance of the WiFi adapter and change the WiFi output at 75%, this solves a lot of problems with the connection / disconnection of USB - C questions. Exit at 75% reduction does not affect your connection on wireless networks.
My HARD drive kept connect/disconnect when you use the adapter, but this correction took care of her.

Yes, you should be able to. The graphical subsystem integrated (Intel HD 4400) and the discreet graphics card (nVidia GT 750 M) support mini-Display port 1.2 standards.
Ports video and resolution
- HDMI 1.4: 4096x2304@24Hz or 4096x2160@30Hz
- Mini-DisplayPort 1.2: 3840x2160@60Hz

Dell u3014 does not connect to any laptop (Dell XPS 13 / Dell Studio XPS 1340) via display port
Now, I received my u3014 dell monitor last night and did not, as still able to connect to one of my laptops.
I have a Dell XPS 13 (L321X), which has a port minidisplay outside and a Dell StudioXPS 1340, who was a regular on displayport.
Dell has included a mini displayport to displayport cable with the monitor and I tried this cable with two laptops, but no video appears.
I get the following messages with each laptop:
With the XPS 13: The monitor says "no displayport cable is connected.
With the Studio XPS 1340: "This monitor now goes in powersafe mode'.
The monitor works fine via HDMI and DVI, but obviously those who do not allow me to enjoy the maximum resolution.
The two laptops under windows 7 64-bit with video drivers of dell stock. I'm at a loss for what to do and would appreciate any suggestions/help someone.
Update: Dell sent me a new, replacement monitor. With this new monitor, I bought two cables:
Mini-displayport to mini-displayport to connect the XPS 13 to the U3014:

As soon as I hung the xps 13 on the monitor, the monitor acknowledged instantly and went at full resolution. The same is true when I tried to connect with the Studio XPS 1340.
So I don't know if it's a simple cable problem or if there is something wrong with the circuit board on the original U3014, and frankly, I don't want to try my new cables with her, just in case, and facing another headache.
Whatever it is, this fixes all my problems. Thanks for all your help to try to diagnose the problem.

XPS 14z has a mini DisplayPort located next to the HDMI port. You will need to use a min-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable to connect the monitor to the laptop.
