  Uninstall the CD-DVD player in Device Manager, then restart the computer. Once the computer restarts it will automatically reinstall the readers.

  I have a D630 with the latest SIGMATEL drivers installed and I have the infamous 'Read Microphone' problem.

  I crossed the portable Audio Help FAQ and make the suggested registry changes, but this did not allow Microphone playback on my system.

  I am running Windows XP SP2 x 32.

  Any help on how to solve this problem will be greatly appreciated!

  I ran Spy bot this AM and found an entry that says "Microsoft Windows Active Desktop" with 5 registry changes. I search this Active Desktop, it seems, it should NOT exist on my computer I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

• Failed to save the registry change

  I have a Windows XP (SP3) machine in a domain environment.  The computer is correctly configured in the domain environment (assuming that, because I can log in as a domain administrator and all users get the startup script ran which maps some readers for them).

  I'm trying to change the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

  In particular - the key: WUServer

  I try to grab the WSUS server name it (i.e. http://main) (main is the name of the domain controller that is running WSUS).  When I entered the value and the output of the register - then go back into the registry, the key is still a Virgin.  I enter the server wsus again, exit, go back-it's empty.  It just won't save.

  I checked the permissions on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate and 'authenticated users' was a total control.  Also, I gave myself so full control (domain\administrator).  Then, I gave "everyone" full control.  Just editing won't stay/save.

  What could be going on here?  It is the only computer in the company to behave like that.

• As an administrator I am denied access to change the security settings.

  I think I'm to be hacked through my ex (who is computer savvy and we are involved in a bitter custody case), all my work is done on my computer... I am the administrator and the only user on Windows Vista Home Premium settings to activate the logs and monitoring are disabled and I am denied access to edit my affidavits and/or modify the security settings.   Allows you to ensure that your system is indeed clean, see below:

  Try to start your system in safe mode:

  Restart your computer if it is running. Press and hold the F8 key for 3 seconds after your computer powers initially on. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu (or beep) you can stop. Up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection. Select Mode safe mode with networking and press ENTER. You should see drivers loading, it may take a few moments. You should then be at the Welcome screen. Connect to your computer using an account with administrator privileges. Now, you download (free) MalwareBytes from here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol install, Update then do a scan of your system in safe mode, to ensure that it is indeed clean! • Windows Vista 64-bit with readers that will not start after disabling all startup applications and registry changes

  My Vista 64-bit system ran like a dream - until I tried to install Roxio Creator 2010.  When the installation failed and hung up, I stopped the installation with the Task Manager and rebooted the pc.  Following the instructions of blog users of Roxio, I did the following:

  1. selected disable all startup using MSCONFIG and restarted the pc applications.

  2 download and run the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp.

  3 remove the partially installed Roxio files in the directory c:\Program Files x 86, then made an export of registry before editing the registry.

  4. under the leadership of the registry - deleted file folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Roxio and has attempted to delete the Wow6432Node folder from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder but encountered an error - didn't note it, unfortunately, but basically he said that he could not remove it when it has been changed, after waiting a while I tried to delete the folder Wow6432Node whe even once with the same answer, so I closed Regedit and restarted the pc.

  I got no error message.  I backed up the registry, but was not able to start the pc, so was not able to restore the registry.

  I couldn't restore last good configuration known - the option was not yet present.

  When I tried to restore the operating system, he asked drivers before it would proceed.

  I have a floppy 1.44 with the raid drivers and after reloading of these drivers, I was able to reload Vista Ultimate.  Fortunately, all my data was recorded in a windows.old directory, and I'm back in business without losses.  Just had to reload all my software.  Do that...

  I think that my problem was caused by disabling all startup applications in msconfig - which resulted in my hard not recognized disk array.  This seems likely.

  Chkdsk, as its name suggests, check the hard drive (and the file system). It does not check or repair the registry.

• Disable the Group Policy registry change

  Initially, I was surprised that, by default, run the Publisher of the registry (regedit) under a standard user account does not have administrative credentials.

  Then I realized that if the administrative credentials are required for editing the registry, virtually all configuration changes would require a command prompt. Also, I learned that UAC controls only the registry keys it considers administrative.   At home we have Win 7 Professional, which is the Group Policy Editor. Can I create a policy to prevent standard users to start the registry editor, and perhaps for the same message, I see at work?

• MKV files can be recognized by WMP 12 video in the video library, do not help registry changes.

  Currently, the MKV files in folders assigned to the 'Vidéos' library are listed in the folder 'other media '.  Windows does not share the folder/library / "in other media" via DLNA or home group streaming...
  Thus, these MKV files can be shared via the Windows library system;  Even another computer (not a "device" like a cell phone) or a TV can not see it this way... Only via the standard file sharing and printing.
  I went to this for awhile, and I tried the following: d

  (1) Yes, I have the codec.  the files play fine in WMP.

  (2) Yes, I have FFdshow and Haali media splitter/Matroska splitter

  (3) Yes, I changed the registry by using the following:

  I must say, if Microsoft does not support the MKV, which is the only answer for why these files are not supported natively, by 2013 while they are busily flipping through their nose to their most loyal customers.

  Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you remove Firefox and all the leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
