Developing applications using Ubuntu Linux

Hi forum, thank you for taking the time to read my post.

I want to Blackberry develop applications... but I don't see a Java plug-in download compatible Ubuntu.

Any help on this would be useful.

PS.

If your answers include anything that is associated with Microsoft, please don't answer.

I look for ways to develop Blackberry applications on the Linux platform. Thank you

If your responses include anything Microsoft related, please dont reply.

Simulators will not work on just * nix. You can try the wine, but your best bet is parallels or VMWare.

If you want to do everything and use only a device for the test, you still have a chance to be * nix only. I think he was talking about a plugin for linux, but I doubt he'll go anywhere if it isn't out yet. You can always use the BB Ant tools, make a maven plugin or build everything yourself via command line.

Basically, it is not supported, but it is also not impossible... just search around to pick up the pieces.

  • Benefits of developing applications using 4.3 to 4.2

    Hello

I m new to BB using JAVA development. I've been through a lot of posts here and the idea that I get, is that the development of applications using 4.2 running on OS 4.2 is the best way to ensure that it works on most phones.

What are the benefits of developing applications using 4.3 running on OS 4.3 4.2 more? I know he has the disadvatage of not being able to work on most phones that come out today, but I would like to know more precisely the benefits of development using 4.3 to run on the 4.3 OS 4.2 and lower versions. It would be useful, if anyone can provide information on this both from the point of view of the developer and the consumer perspective.

I don't know if this has already been answered... I could not find it nowhere m... I couldn't find the benefits of the use of 4.2, 4.3 not

    Thank you

If your device all of which your application must support is leaving v4.3 and then you can go for v4.3 as eclipse pugin is here for that and you are familiar with eclipse, so that it is easy for you. But if you need support devices of lower version to v4.3 then you must use the version (below) you need to support the devices.

  • Distorted screen of the console using Ubuntu Linux on Satellite C70-B-212

    Hi all

I have a problem with Linux on my laptop Satellite C70-B-212. The videochip Intel Graphics 4400 is supported by Linux, but on this laptop, it gives very distorted output on the console screen. I see a few vertical lines on the screen showing a few ghosts strange images of the output.

The Office of exit itself seems to stop smoking well, until I have a screen and move it to the bottom of the screen. You can see the top of the screen some distortion in the upper line.

In Windows everything works fine. When I use the parameter 'nomodeset' turns off the kernel mode setting these lines do not appear. But then, I expect that 3D hardware acceleration is disabled too.

I suspect that this is a timing issue with the screen of the computer. Just a very minor lag on the clocks or sync.
It could be just my laptop and then it just cloud be replaced or maybe it has to do with the series.
Anyone seeing the same issue on this model or series.

    Having Linux on C70-B-212.
Who can verify this by starting Linux liveCD on laptop C70-B-212.

    Thank you

    Hi Marco

It sounds like a driver problem => kernel.

You can try a kernel later maybe?
Do you know that you are using atm?

    in terminal type:

    uname - r

Course Fedora uses 3.16 nuclei which is a very recent (if not the most recent) output.

Some Ubuntu distro oriented have test of nuclei in the repositories, you will have to add it manually.
    Maybe it's worth a try?

    and here

      https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/959839

Exactly what the title of the question says. The problem is that I'm using Ubuntu/Linux and solutions identified in the above links do not seem to apply (there is no media - media.windows - foundation.enabled in topic: config since, as its name suggests, it is an option of Windows). I noticed here

It looks like I've been screwed up by an update in a couple of days - which corresponds to my experience, that until a few days ago, everything was perfectly fine (I use VLC to open the .m4v files).

Anyone know some magic button to return? Can I reinstall Firefox 25, if I did? I played randomly with some options in: config (with names suggesting possibly some appropriate behaviors), but nothing good happened...

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Ubuntu linux driver installation for Nvidia 950 M on Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720

    Hello

I bought a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 Ubuntu version because I like Ubuntu linux more than Windows.

I can't find the linux drivers that will allow my Nvidia GT 950 M graphics so, basically, the card useless and no power management.
There is absolutely nothing for Ubuntu Linux on your drivers page.

I have updated to the latest BIOS A03.

The laptop's Ubuntu Logo sticker on it next to the Intel i7 so I thought it is totally compatible.

    Please advise,

    Thank you

    Andrei

Optimus system and at the present time, it is not properly supported under Linux, there is work in progress for him, but for a workaround, see Bumblebee project: wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee

Description a little longer: you have two graphics - integrated (Intel) and discreet (Nvidia). Optimus systems are designed with the intention to use the GPU integrated tasks that requires no graphic heavy treatment (most of the day-to-day activities) and the use of the discrete GPU for applications requiring more powerful GPU. Integrated card is less eager for power and voltage GPU discreet when not in service allows cooler use.

Normally you use integrated card and there is no way to use the card nvidia directly if the BIOS does not switch to it. Help Optimus allows to use the Nvidia card for rendering and power down to save power when not in use. It has not been official for Optimus of Nvidia Linux support. Bumblebee is a community created project attempting to address the issue, but it is really only a workaround until the solution has been created. FIRST is such a solution, but at present it is still experimental and is not in any version of Ubuntu, more it is officially supported only in the open drivers source (new), Nvidia has not yet validated supporting in their binary driver.

I agree that Dell support for bids Linux pages are sorely lacking, in fact I was not able to locate a page describing their Linux pre-installs. Ubuntu certification pages are not really informative on Dell changes and upgrade policy.

I don't really want to install windows just to upgrade the bios. I even tried to use a live cd in WinXP, but it did not work :(

No, as far as I know the BIOS on the European Toshiba driver page is based win if you need the Windows system to get the BIOS flashed.

  • NEITHER CVS using Labview Linux?

Hi, I have a CVS here, as well as 1455 development under labview linux machine. I've used MAX to set up this CVS, but it seems that my labview is not MAX, and I can see on the site it seems to be available for Linux. Could someone point me in the right direction to set up/use my CVS using labview linux (I've got installed 8.5).

You need to write code CVS to turn an image into a table of number using IMAQ ImageToArray.

Then, use the shared variable or TCP/IP to return data to the host VI.

However, there are two things to remember:

    1. an image won't be like in real-time, as show on VI target itself.

    2. because the Vision Development Module does not support on Linux, all the processing of the image on Linux must develop in yourself.

  • Application using Java SDK 5.0 compatible with the lower SDK version?

    Hello

I wanted to know if I'm developing an application using the Blackberry Java SDK 5.0, it would work on slot version 4.3 or 4.2.1? If the current application has features not available on the previous version of course.

I mean, if I develop an application of basic as a HelloWorld with SDK 5.0, this app works on a phone with SDK 4.2.1?

    Thank you

    Damien.

The only time where I tried it, I received an error of compatilbility so I would say not in my experience.

My suggestion is to build with backward compatibility in mind and remember that what you build for 4.2 will work in 5.0 and so on.

  • What is the best platform to develop applications for BlackBerry 10?

    Hi all

I have developed applications for BlackBerry 6 and 7 for the last 3 years, but I am very new to BlackBerry 10. I know that most of the developer would like BB 10 is something new. I have about five years of experience in the JAVA platform, but unfortunately BB 10 is not supported it unless you develop applications for Android and the port at 10 BB.

When I checked the list of programs that are supported by BB 10, I saw C/Cpp, Cascades, HTML5 and action script among them. But which one to choose? There is where I am confused. I don't have any experience in the above mentioned technologies. If I select, I need to learn from the beginning. When I went through a few posts, I got to know many people prefer to develop in HTML5, as it is a cross-platform technology. But many have said that it may have problems of performance and the native technologies like C/Cpp, waterfalls will be the best options in terms of performance.

Can anyone suggest me the best technology to start with BB10?

Cascades is based on Qt, which is a cross-platform C++ library. It encapsulates many low level BB Native API - s for easier use, but you still have direct access to these APIs if necessary. C++ syntax is similar to Java, so it shouldn't be too difficult to pass. I suggest choosing stunts.
