Dim 8400 cleaning-CMOS battery BIOS Reset?

Hi people!
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. I've never dealt with before inside material operations. These tasks may seem simple to many here... but not to me... again.

I'm a bit confused after researching the best way to perform a simple computer desk case dusting/cleaning. I have a Dimension 8400 built in late 2004 runninng XP Pro SP3, BIOS Version A03 (11/10/04). My 8400 has been updated several years ago with two 500gig drives configured in RAID 0. This, after Dell phone support said I had a failure of hard drive... which soon discovered to be an incorrect assessment. Well, now I have a "failure" 250 GB external drive that works perfectly.

Although I have never personally opened the case before, I need to clean the inside and outside. At the same time, I need to change the CMOS 10 year battery, which gave me the message of low voltage F1 now for some time. According to me, it is better to change it before it dies completely. Then I learn that I'm going to lose, and so need to reset my BIOS settings back to the State before the battery change. And apparently, there are many other tasks I could perform as part of a proper clean-up. Additional maintenance tasks as remove the CPU heatsink and fan to reapply thermal paste, then clean each connector RAM, etc. I think, however, I will go as far as a battery change for now.

My real concern is how be sure all of the settings that I see in BIOS screens (which I have written down by the owner's manual) are all that need to be reset (as well as the date and time, of course). I wrote down to the boot sequence and 2 settings of the car that are not the default settings. All THE other settings across all screens seem to be the default settings. Am I right to believe that if I do the simple BIOS fixes back to that I see now that I would have done it good... that RAID 0 will be restored and that their output, I'll have a solid start and transparent in XP? I hope it's really simple. It sounds TOO simple. Advice or advice on possible "traps" are greatly appreciated!
Respectfully,.
Brad

All this sounds good. The manual will be old data in there. Boot in the Bios. Never open the screen and all the options and save what is there now. Then, change the battery. Boot into the Bios and replicate the rated parameters.

  • Satellite L50-B-date/time in the BIOS resets without battery

    Hello friends :-)

I just bought new laptop Toshiba Satellite L-50-B (Skullcandy). After a few days, I read on the internet if I want to save my battery I have to just take off and works on current alternative. I did it. My battery is fixed by two screws. When my battery is removed, I noticed a problem, my time of BIOS is reset whenever I turn off the laptop. When I put the battery, time is not set to zero.
I have difficult, maybe it was a CMOS battery? What do you think? I open it and I couldn't find the CMOS battery?

Another question, why the battery is fixed by two screws? I wondered, maybe she is not intended to be deattached?

I forgot my BIOS supervisor password. So, I reset the CMOS (Clear CMOS) memory and now cannot do all CMOS changes are saved.  At startup, there is now a message that says "default BIOS settings have been refilled to the update problem or BIOS checksum."

    Hanspuppa,

I started to pull the CMOS battery to check on a voltmeter when, under a strong light, I finally realized that the configuration of jumpers PIN is inverted for blocks PWD NET and CLEAR CMOS.  The pins are arranged for CLAIRE PWD 123 and 321 to CLEAR CMOS.  The first image of the instructions (below) is the Basic setting for jumpering 12 CMOS and CMOS_PWD pins.  I missed the pin numbering sequence on the CLEAR CMOS and thought they were in the same order as the CLEAR_PWD block.  (i.e. the CMOS could not be reset because pine 23 were closed when they were believed to be 12).    I wanted to add one suggestion for others who may run into this.  Maybe could avoid any confusion with the text to explain that, in addition to a third of images showing (copy of the first) the return to basic configuration.  The cause of the confusion about this wsa being not not able to read all the pin codes and believe incorrectly that the two blocs would have pins arranged in a similar sequence when they are not.

See Attention to detail!  Click to expand the Clear CMOS or clear CMOS_PWD.

My apologies to all those who have looked into this.

Two nearly adjacent jumper blocks have a reverse PIN.  After the erase (reset), they must be reset as indicated below.  I may have issues pending on the update of the BIOS under Win7.

  • W530 does not illuminate when the CMOS battery is connected

    Problem:

I can't get my laptop to start (it blinks just 3 times battery icon, without to need laptop power (won't start even fan)) unless I disconnect CMOS battery, external battery and power first. Disconnected battery and CMOS battery, I can get the computer started connecting the AC (the computer then starts immediately without the need to press the powerbutton). Once the computer has booted, everything works fine (get warnings during start-up due to removed CMOS battery and must adjust date/timesettings every time in the operating system) and it is possible to restart without problems. I tried the following:

    Attempted fixes:

    (1) replace the CMOS battery and checked the required voltage is present using the multimeter

    (2) delete all memory modules. Has not made a difference, because it never reaches the verification of memory (where it would beep several times due to lack of memory) unless CMOS has been reset.

    (3) update BIOS of 2.57 to 2.63 without change

    (4) by pressing the button of power 10 times and then maintained for 30 seconds did nothing.

I'm out of ideas after many hours of web browsing, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Pavilion dv6 2170 clock problem after replacing the CMOS battery

Hello world. Sorry for my bad likely English

OK, so the problem started since I changed my laptop CMOS battery. and to be honest it wasn't whit any problem the clock when I replaced it but I if this may be the cause of another problem that later I figuered what the problem was because of the RAM.

in any case, I changed the Rams and this problem has been resolved. I just set the clock of the BIOS and rebooted the system. After awhile I figuered that windows clock is not fair. I restarted again and saw the BIOS clock. It has been reset for 2009! even when the laptop battery and power supply are attached the BIOS and windows continues to change clock! I even changed my windows and I replaced the CMOS battery with the former, but nothing helped. It seems really strange, but I don't think it's maybe a hardware problem there a driver or something for the CMOS battery... need your help! Thank you!

You mentioned that the BIOS has been reset for 2009? This means that there is a problem with the current or any leak and the BIOS has been "reset" back at the root of the plant. I'm afraid you have shorted something when you changed the battery not be grounded.

Worst case is that there is physical damage to your motherboard and there is nothing you can do about it, probably broken a capacitor - who cannot hold a charge to prevent the reset of the BIOS clock.

    However, you can try this.

Completely, unplug your computer, remove the laptop battery, etc... Then browse 'Guide' your computer for the "hard physical reset" for your CMOS. I don't know what it's like on a laptop, I only did it on desktop with riders. Be sure to follow the directions precisely.

-Make sure you are properly grounded. touch the metal parts that is grouned before touching anything on your computer.
-the hard reset should be done for at least 30 seconds, this ensures that the power is completely served the system. Then you can set this back.

Try this a couple of times, first without removing the CMOS battery and 2nd time after remove CMOS battery and placing it in.

    Good luck.

BTW, you can also try running without your new memories (if there is more than 1 stick, try them separately). In fact, I would probably try first before doing a hard reset CMOS. The reason why I didn't say earlier, it's because I have assumed that you already tried this.

  • TouchSmart 300: CMOS battery

My HP Touchsmart 300 resets the date of 2001, whenever it is turned on.  I googled the problem and the most likely solution is to replace the CMOS battery. Which panels at the back of the computer to access the battery and it is quite straightfoeward to replace?

    Thanks for your help.

    @banhien

The RTC battery is actuallly pretty easy to replace in this model. All it takes is patience and organization to perform the task.

You are right. A flat CMOS battery will cause the BIOS do not store the date and time system. It must be replaced by a new battery. You will need a CR2032 battery, which can be purchased at the pharmacy, Wal-Mart or an electronics store.

The panels at the rear of the PC are quite simple to remove and replace. You will need to get to the motherboard to replace the RTC battery.

See the video on the following document. See minute 05:20 where you can see the RTC battery.

  • Re: Where is the CMOS battery in Toshiba NB100?

    Hi guys,.

I disassembled my nb100 and have been to look at the motherboard for centuries, trying to find the CMOS battery.
Basically, my netbook is not in the bios, it is just stuck on the Toshiba start screen.
so I thought I would try to remove the cmos battery to see if that could fix the problem.

So if someone could please tell me where I could the cmos battery?

    > Basically my netbook will not go into the bios, it remains just stuck on the home screen Toshiba.
    > so I thought I would try to remove the cmos battery too see if that would solve the problem.

I doubt that this will help you solve this problem
First and foremost the CMOS is soldered to the motherboard (in most cases).
I think there must be a problem with a motherboard if the laptop is unable to pass the POST (power on self test).
Basically, all that might be affected; RAM, etc.

I think you should check the RAM first, if that is not enough, then an ASP should try to reflash the BIOS, otherwise the motherboard needs to be replaced.

  • Equium A210 - replacing the CMOS battery possible?

My Toshiba Satellite A210 - 1 4 seems to have a CMOS battery problem because it does not keep the BIOS settings.

I bought a replacement battery and a/c mains adapter to remove the a/c power problems but the POST beaps and CMOS keeps a checksum error and once in the BIOS and save the settings, it starts successfully, but if the laptop restarts or is off this all over again. I've also updated the BIOS successfully is not of the BIOS chip. The only thing I can think is to replace the CMOS battery - is it possible?

I read that some are soldered on? Would this laptop Toshiba service to replace the CMOS battery / audit failures - if so, how much would it cost, or someone else can do that the laptop is out of warranty.

    Advice please?

    Hi Emases2010,

As I know some batteries are fixed/soldered to the motherboard and t is no substitute, but I think that only a laptop computer technician can give you a detailed response.

Normally, you can load the CMOS battery if you leave the AC adapter plugged in overnight or in the best case 24 hours. After this, the battery must be fully charged.

  • Tecra M10 - CMOS battery is low and powers down and upwards automatically

    Toshiba TECRA M10 - 10W
    Model no PTMB1E-00P003EN

This laptop was working fine last week and is only about 1 year.

Now to the power he reports the CMOS battery is weak and penetrates into the configuration screen to set the date and time.

Once this is done, it shuts down and no more automatically, but everything works the CPU fan to high speed, no attempt to start etc.

If you press the power button with the fan running, it will be power downwards and upwards (while it is still connected to the power grid) and again to report a problem with the CMOS battery.

Any ideas on what is wrong and what can be done to fix this?

    Hello

First the CMOS battery can be charged while you let the connected AC/DC adapter, for example 24 hours a day. After that, the message CMOS battery shouldn't t appears more.
