Dimension 8200 does not start

I have a Dimension 8200, which has not been used for more than a year.  I was going to reformat the hard drive to remove all personal data, and then give it to my daughter's school.  However, it will not start.  The Dell page comes and the BIOS white bar at the bottom of this page fills slowly, but then nothing happens for about a minute.  Meanwhile, the power button is green, and the ABCD diagnostic lights are green-orange to orange-green.  Then after about a minute or two, a page of message arrives.    At this point, the diagnostic lights are Green-Green-Green-orange, and the power button is always green. Among other writings is the assertion that the 1 primary and secondary hard drives is not found.  It says also "failure keyboard,' even if I used this fairly reliable keyboard with other computers. But it does not seem that the keyboard doesn't have - I do nothing doing on the keyboard has an impact on the computer.

I checked the optical drive opens and closes when I push the button on the front, but I have not tried to use the player, because the computer is completely non-functional.  I looked through the forum of ideas of things to try.  According to this research, I checked the power supply provides the correct voltage.  I disconnected and reconnected then the two IDE cables, and I also removed and replaced the RAM sticks, as well as two sticks of continuity.  But still nothing!

Any ideas, or should I just trash?

Thank you

    Hello Bev,

The rest green power light on, no blinking, no beeps. I had no problem until last night after that I removed the hard drive and reinstalled.

How can I remove the memory modules?

    Thanks :)

For the removal and reinstallation of the RAM, details are HERE NOTE from the ADMIN: broken link has been removed from this post by Dell >

A hint: make sure that the modules are filled into the slots and the clips are in the notches.

While the case is open, check that all the power cable and the data are correctly connected to the drive and the motherboard, by removing and reconnecting them.

Why the hard disk has been deleted and reinstalled, was this HD replacement, or what?

  • Dell Dimension 4600 does not start after upgrading CPU

    Hello

First of all, I tried to send this last night but received a message on my post approval by moderator? Not yet been approved but seen other people have posted with success more recently. Do not know what is happening.

In any case, put his hand on a 3.4 Ghz HT P4 Northwood 512 Kb 800 Mhz FSB for £10 on Ebay to upgrade my mother enough old Dimension 4600 which has a 2.8 Ghz P4 512 KB 533 FSB inside... However, when I install it the computer does not light and shows just a light amber. The readers and fans still spin but there is no display. The computer works normally when I put the old one back in.

I think somehow it is a power supply problem as the new processor uses 20w more energy than the old 2.8 Ghz one. Someone at - it ideas? Just trying to figure if I bought a bad CPU, so I can return.

    Thank you

    Andrew,

It is not a power supply problem, it's incompatible, or a bad processor problem.

The first models of 4600 will take up to 3.0 GHz and models later, 3.2 GHz to 3.4 GHz, but this does not offer much of a sudden boost on the 3.0 GHz

Motherboard Dell P/N F4491 will support up to 3.4 Ghz Northwood leaving Prescott

  • Dell Dimension does not start in Vista after upgrade

A friend had a Dell Dimension E521 that won't start - has the missing file system\hal.dll.

As there was nothing on this computer, he needed, I rebuilt it install a new copy of Windows XP, used the upgrade disc closed for upgrade to Vista and ensured everything in its original package has been installed. Let him install the Windows updates at night and in the morning, after a reboot it indicated that there is an update available. I've updated that and restarted and he said there are only four more updates that memory on the video card. I've updated those, but now it does not start at the top.

I'm going through the boot process, but as soon as it is the screen black with the Microsoft Corporation and the (green?) bar he starts moving forward a very small amount, and then restarts. It comes up with the selection of Windows startup screen and I tried the secure boot and last good Configuration known without result.

I tried the original XP disc to do a repair, but this doesn't seem to work with Vista?

How can I recover a work computer or do I have to reinstall again?

Thanks for any help, that all the world can offer.

If you have installed Windows Vista good the first time that the hard drive should be fine however I would suggest running the Dell diagnostics just to be safe. To do this follow the instructions on page 405 of this document and perform extensive tests.

  • Satellite P200D-130 does not start after upgrading RAM

Hi, I just upgraded the RAM on my P200D 130 but it does not start after that.
I removed the 2 Hynix 1 GB PC2-5200 and put in 2 SO Kingston DDR2 2 GB PC667 (should be the same as PC2-5200).
Post-market nothing happens, light power control is turned on, I him stays CD drive but screen black, no beeps.

I put one of the 1 GB modules, it starts normally, then I tried a 1 GB into the lower slot module and a 2 GB module in the top slot and it works.
I tried a single 2 GB module in each slot, even in the form of 2 2 GB modules.

What could be the reason, better: what would be the solution to ensure that the modules of 2 x 2 GB to work?

    Thanks in advance,

    Michael

    Hello!

I think that both modules are not compatible to the laptop.
Normally you can upgrade your laptop to 4 GB. Look in the user manual.

The RAM, you should bring the computer dealer and request a new one. More buy modules with the same specifications and dimensions. Try buying RAM with the same specs as before.

  • My Windows XP does not start

I use a Dell Dimension E310. I've recently upgraded to SP3 on my windows xp. Now it does not start and gives me this message:

Windows did not start because of an error in the system. Please report this problem as:
    "Load needed DLLs for kernel.

I looked at a few sites on how to fix this error. Everyone keeps suggessting, reinstalling windows. I don't have a windows installation CD. I have this computer 7 years ago.

Now the difference with my situation is that I have vista and XP on my computer. So I am still able to access the files on my XP with vista. Now, I hate vista and I would like to get my XP working again, because most of my work and the programs I use are on this side.

My question is this: is it possible for me to solve this problem without having to reinstall if I am still able to access the files? In the affirmative, please let me know.

I hope that I just need to download a certain file and insert it in the right folder

    Thank you.

Meaning so that their file is probably missing or damaged:

    c:\windows\system32\kdcom.dll

There are chances good copies of the file on your system here:

    c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

    or here:

    c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

There is also one on my SkyDrive, you can download for a work machine and network disks using a floppy disk or a USB memory to the afflicted machine device and copy to which it belongs.

Depending on your configuration of registry, you will not be able to access the floppy or USB key, once you enter the Recovery Console, but you will still be able to use a Hiren BootCD (it has its own register), but first try the easy things.

The kdcom.dll is the same for SP2 and SP3 so somehow or another you need to get started on something to replace your missing or damaged.

You can create a bootable CD from the Console of the Recovery XP (no XP media required) and then when you do, you must enter a command like this:

    Copy c:\windows\system32\dllcache\kdcom.dll c:\windows\system32

    or

    Copy c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\kdcom.dll c:\windows\system32

Answered in the affirmative if invited to replace existing file and you should see that a message the file (s) has been copied.

Are you a first bootable XP Recovery Console because it is easy and something you can always use another day of rain.  If not get it for you, or the file is not found on your system, you can download it from my SkyDrive, but first try the easy things.

Here's how to make a bootable CD from the Console of the Recovery XP (no XP media required):

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget what you have (no XP media required).

This is not the same as recovery disks that might have come with the acquisition of the system store.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD (do not install UniBlue or the Ask Toolbar - never!):

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Then enter the commands copy and see if you can replace the kdcom.dll file and see how things work after that.

I see a potential problem with these instructions in the link Zhang posted (even if you don't have an XP bootable installation CD) true that we can take up later if he cares about.

Original title: udate Windows vista problems

I have dell dimension e520, Windows Vista home Basic, 32-bit SP 2, and in January, I upgraded RAM to 4 GB to 1 GB. McAfee security on the computer. The system worked until the last updated (March 2012).  The computer does not start correctly after March 2012 update and System Restore restores to February 21 implemented to date.  The computer will then automatically install the updates again and restart, after which the computer will not start up again (an annoying loop).  I also lose saved data after the system recovery sets return date.  I tried Microsoft Fixit, which did not help.  Thanks for your help. Hurry LOL available updates.

PS computer says 'patch blocking windows to start.  Some updates successfully installed previously, but on the next time you download windows updates, that try to download updates and others have "failed."  Sorry for the confusion but I'm rushing and I try to include all the symptoms, I don't see dealing with the problem I have.

I had to take it to get fixed, thanks to the effort.  The person fixing said he ran a few cleaning tools and which appeared to fix.
