It seems that this computer is so old that Dell isn't fully can't stand it anymore.  Pages that appear to relate to your system in a generic way, all seem to suggest that you have added a new video card, at least his new card and perhaps other devices.  You can search the drivers for those devices on the websites of their respective manufacturers.

In any case, it does not appear in the documentation above that this computer has never provided with Windows XP or that Dell had XP drivers for everything.

  • DELL Dimension XPS T800r CMOS Maintenance Mode worries...

Greetings, good people of the world of DELL!

I'm working on a desktop DELL Dimension XPS T800r for a neighbor.

    The original complaint: no video

Some things have changed since yesterday when I worked on it, then read on...

Here's what I've done so far in order:

    (855) 935-7526 *. Exchanged video from a well-known donor cards.  No change.

    2. the DIAGNOSTIC LEDS on the back panel has found.

3 DIAGNOSTIC LIGHTS remain DARK during the start attempt.

    4. consultation documentation DELL for LIGHT codes DIAGNOSTIC.

    5. the code is: All the DARK - turns on by default.

    6. again consulted the DELL documentation to identify what to do:

    (a) reinstall microprocessor

    (b) remove all the expansion cards

    7. After you do both.  No change.

8 using the prior computer knowledge, I pulled ALL of the motherboard except the feeding fittings and connections on the front panel.  I unplugged all connectors power hard drive as well.  I left only the CPU fan connected to the motherboard.  I checked the power supply against DELL standards and all is good.

    9. now, knowing the CMOS batteries, I checked the voltage on board.  He was 3.1VDC.  Seems good.  I didn't want to remove it, so in order to make sure it's properly plugged in, I turned the battery making to create a better connection.  That's where things have changed since yesterday...

10 leave the BARE Board, I plugged it in to the power supply.  Silence.  Only the yellow led on the motherboard lit up.

    11. I installed the CPU and VIOLA!, LIGHTS flash YELLOW for a second DIAGNOSIS, and both fans turn quickly upward, then will stop altogether.  The yellow led on the motherboard remains on.

12 DELL documentation contains this code to represent: card system is powered,
but the BIOS is not executed.

    13. I think turn battery CMOS created a better connection (the computer IS almost 16 years old) giving me a response to market now.

    14. I tried to reinstall everything and document what happens after turning the power on.  Nothing changes beyond this point.  LIGHTS DIAGNOSTIC flash YELLOW briefly, and the power supply and fan rotation CPU for a second, then stop.

15 DELL documentation suggests putting the system in MAINTENANCE MODE by the CMOS jumper

This computer is almost 16 years old, and very probably, the owner has not saved the BIOS settings.

This is what is installed, before the Panel:

    A CD-ROM drive

    An IOMEGA Zip drive

    A floppy drive

    Now to the question:

Since I have no way to backup or recover the CMOS settings, I hesitate to put the jumper to MAINTENANCE MODE to see if the computer will boot all the way to the top.  I'm not potentially make the computer unusable in maintenance or replacing the battery mode, even though I would replace the battery because of the line due to age.

    The DELL documentation:

NOTICE: Pass by the maintenance mode returns all settings in the
Installer system to their default values. Dell highly recommends
that you save or print the current settings before entering in this
mode, so you can fix them when the system is reset to normal
    mode.

What do you think will happen if I reset the default BIOS by moving the jumper and replacing the battery?

I will cause a catastrophic failure?

Now, the other side of the coin is that the system is relatively basic, so I have to enter the starting sequences and other isn't a big deal.  I hope...

At worst, I'll have to use a drive caddy to retrieve its data from the hard drive.

Thanks in advance for all your help and support!

    Austin Cajiao

In case it helps someone, re-seats maps microprocessor and expansion got the computer fully functional again.  I guess that for a computer in 16 years, the tabs or oxidize some and created resistance which forbade the computer recognition and power.  It works fine now.

  • Upgrade processor for a Dell Dimension XPS T600r

I want to upgrade a 300 mhz Pentium II to a 700 mhz pentium III. I ordered the Pentium III of Ebay. When I plug in and turn on my computer, my computer screen does not, and don't the fans for my processor cooling or power. Before giving the guy on Ebay a few bad reviews, I thought I better do a little research first. Is there something I need to do, like flash the BIOS or something, or is the processor I bought Bad?

  • Dell Dimension XPS computer

Can be upgraded my desktop computer with an Intel Pentium 4 CPU clocked at 3.4 GHZ with a new processor?  I know that the RAM can be added.  Does make sense to upgrade or is it better to buy a new desktop computer?

    Hello

This is not a value of upgrade CPU on systems that it will cost you almost like a new machine.

Worth buying a new desktop computer.

  • Dell Dimension XPS 400/DXP051 Power Supply Upgrade

I was wondering if I can buy a more powerful PSU of the store of the local computer or I have to order it through dell.  I've heard more of a technician that dell power supplies use different connectors or are of different size (to fit custom cases I guess) that what is considered to be a 'normal' PSU

The reason for this upgrade is that I had to underclock my new video card a bit to prevent it from being such a huge drain on the PSU, and he distillers get an error everytimet the computer starts.

  • Buying a new XPS 8700 or try?

I'm an old customer of Dell. I have 4 generations of Dell Office wrapped around me that I work, which dates back to the Dimension XPS Gen 4, until my last 9100 XPS. I started having a few problems with the 9100, so I started to look at the XPS 8700. After some research, that I started to do a little check of prices in line with other companies with the 8700 then contacting Dell sales department to see if they could wheel & deal, however I found that Dell must have changed their way of doing business since my last purchase 3 years ago this month. Once I've done through the call tree that I gave the seller some of the configurations that I watched, then a few tech questions. The sales rep said I could go to the Dell site to check for any technical question, I might be, that through me for a loop. Previous sales reps were able to advise, recommend, then let me know about special offers which were not on the site, but this sales rep read me on prices higher than those posted on the site, gave any kind of advice & would deal not with the price of the competitor for the same computer. That's happened?

Can someone tell me y at - there a big difference between the i7 gen 3 & gen 4? Also, I wonder if I should stay with Win 7 or go with the 8 to win? Is there a difference in resources between the 2 OS? 7 was great, but I noticed that it costs more to buy the Win 7 8700.

    Hi CaptainKirkRM1,

I think you're a new sales representative because the last of them, I've talked about helped me with any problems. A few times I've been known to wait 5 minutes to get another rep.

I7 is a Quad Core processor. There is not much difference between generation 3 and 4. 4 has better hyperthreading and is the latest model.4 will have a little more power and can run a bit hot for temperature.

If you have not used Windows 8, you can watch the videos of it. It's totally different than previous versions of Windows. It's like a smartphone apps.  We touch screen models available with Windows 8. This page has a lot of Dell videos for you to watch.

    http://video.search.Yahoo.com/search/video?p=Dell+Windows+8+How+to+video

Windows 8 has it's less consume a lot of resources, but it won't matter with I7 quadcore, because you will have a lot of power.

  • Replacing battery in the XPS desktop

I have a Dell Dimension XPS, with an Intel Pemtium 570 (3.8 GHz), and I am still using Windows XP Professional.  He played almost perfectly all the time, but lately, very early in the boot process, I'm a maeesge saying that "system battery is low.  I can't find any information in the manual on a battery system.  Can I replace this battery?   Exactly what type of battery is the next, and where is it located?  Help, please.

  • Upgrading RAM for the ancient system XPS R450

This has probably been asked and answered before, but I'm having a hard time finding all the information I need in one place.

Through my church, I volunteer teach computer skills and doing my best to upgrade the equipment for people who cannot afford a new system.

    Here's what I'm faced with:

    Dell Dimension XPS R450

    WIN XP Pro version 2002

    IIP/448 MHz

    384 MB OF RAM

15.7 hard drive NTFS of G

I want to update their RAM wherever possible, but continue to see conflicting views on how high I can go.

In addition, according to my research, I conclude this must SDRAM - i.e. cannot use the DDR I have sitting around - and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the DIMM form factor required match sticks?  Don't have not cracked the box still - does anyone know how many slots I could watch?

Bottom line - what is the absolute MAX RAM?

I know than most - including me - would say trash box and buy something of the modern era.  But they are very poor people who are lucky to have a PC at all, and that's what I have to work with.

All the tips are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Dell XPS 8500 PSU

-Very well, so I have a Dell XPS 8500 and I wannt update my GPU. I just need to upgrade from my diet. So, I have a few questions.

    A. What are the dimensions of the PSU that comes with it.

    According to this site: http://www.911forpcs.com/xps-8500.html

they are 6.00 "X 3.25" X 5.5 "(WxHxD). I want to verify that this is true.

    B. I was looking for a 750w PSU, I know I won't need that much, but I would like to have a few extra. So my other question can someone suggest me a PSU that adapts to the dimension XPS 8500 PSU.

I have 2 that caught my attention, but I'm not sure if the dimensions space correctly 100%.

    EVGA SuperNOVA 750

I guess that the EVGA does not because of the length is too long.

    Thermaltake SMART series

Well I don't check the dimensions of the PSU original because I seem to have lost my tape measure instrument nor do I have a rule for the moment autour, but I was able to get this food to fit well.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16817153174

Enough length to fit well, not too close at the height of the motherboard wise and wise length fits well too. Have the ziptied cords additional and nestled under my CD player better than I can.

I'll post in here and I'll change my OP with the dimensions of the PSU original when I find my tape measure instrument or get a ruler.

  • Windows 7 clean installation Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) on a loop of reboot

    Aloha everyone,
I did an install customized windows 7 on a new Western Digital 1 TB sata hard drive, which has been formatted, partitioned, scandisk, and a ntfs c drive was created prior to installation.
The installation ended safely.  I then install my screen reader, Window-Eyes, requiring a reboot.  After the reboot, I started to install critical updates to Windows.  On my fourth update and restarting, I got the blue screen of death, that of some people call a BSoD.  I rebooted and Windows itself restored to a previous state of good, of my just accept the default choice.  Then the rear computer works, but if I stop, restart I get the blue screen of death (BSod) is back, and the loop begins again, i.e. windows restores good condition that works well, until you stop, but on reboot - BSoD is BACK!
I removed the automatic update option, I disabled ScanDisk, drivers updated, bluetooth devices, deactivated sideshow, etc., without any positive result.  I called Microsoft for assisstance and the technician acted like this isn't a known issue, but he assured me that he could solve the problem.  He took control of my computer remotely and do not tell me anything except that the computer would check and repair any problem on reboot, and if he did does not resolve the problem, I have to remember.  The computer has rebooted without the BSod, but I stopped to check if the loop went, and it is not!  To restart the BSOd was back.  It is to note that if I put the computer to sleep, I get a clean start, but stop, restart or hibernation, I get the blue screen of death (BSoD)!
It is a Dell Dimension XPS 420 with a intel Q6600 processer, 3 GB of ddr2 memory, which came with OS Vista Home premium 32-bit.  The Vista system, the last time I got a BSoD has been for more than a year.

After researching this problem on Google, it appears that there is a problem without a solution.

P.S. I'll never upgrade a Windows operating system.  My recommendation for anyone who is planning to upgrade to Windows 7 is to try first on a dual boot using the free download.  If it works for you, consider yourself lucky and buy the upgrade.  If it does not, then remove Windows 7 and stay with your old system.

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft Answers forum.

Usually the "Windows is unable to Check For Updates" error message produced always of the blocker window update connection attempt.

    1. first of all, please check that there is no any third-party firewall preventing Windows Update to communicate with "update.microsoft.com.

    2. check if Windows Firewall is blocking the update of Windows.

Assuming that your sound card is not defective, back up your sound should be pretty easy. As I suspected, your computer has been infected by malware. For now, we will make sure that your computer is infected is more then solve the sound problem.
