disable the balloon pilot

Hello

We'll be the citrix server virtualization.  I had read a lot of articles & they say all "disable the balloon pilot during installation vmtools" during the installation of girl I can't find something to do with a balloon pilot.  I found something else that says that you must disable this through the VI client & gt; guest operating system etc, but it is for the host.

is it possible to do this thinking the VM tools so that it only disables the balloon on the VM?

Thank you

Strongly, I agree with the above two posts and do not recommend disabling the balloon on any virtual machine pilot! But if you are here is the procedure to do so.

:

Connect directly to the ESX Server host computer where the virtual machine resides on, using Virtual Infrastructure Client (VI Client).

-Stop the virtual machine.

-Right-click on the virtual machine on the inventory Panel, then click on change settings.

-Click on the Options tab, and then select general.

-Click on the Configuration settings.

-Click Add a line, and then add the sched.mem.maxmemctl setting in the text box.

-Click on the line next to it and add a 0 in the text box.

-Click OK to save the changes.

    as the topic.

Yes, everything you said is true. With technical virtualization inplace, we always try to approve it at 1.5 x or 2 x take an example that will make this much clearer scenario.

As you have a host with 8 GB of memory and you have turned on on four virtual machines each with 4 GB which is overcommitment of X 2. To achieve this level of overcommitment VMkernel uses now several technique of reclaimation of Page like:

    Page sharing

    Balloon flight

    Compression

    and Exchange.

There may be a case when high memory pressure is VM1 and VM2 is lightly loaded, in this case balloon pilot will inflate in VM2 and pass the memory address to VMkernel which in turn pass these addresses at VM1. Don't forget THAT VM is completely uinaware in all these transition. Once the need has been filled the balloon VM2 pilot deflate and recover his memory.

Please note that the balloon pilot is nothing but a program that uses the system call named Malloc() to reserve memory.

  • Question about the balloon pilot

    Hello

I have a question about the balloon pilot in ESX/ESXi 4.x. When the pilot is "inflated" the reason is to reveal to the ESX host memory of comments in fact is not used and that memory could be recovered by the host. However, the driver must be loaded all the time for this memory to be used by the host, as in giving him another VM?

Or is it just inflate and deflate so and there is no need to stay charged?

Once that memory has been retrieved the pilot deflates on its own.

  • Disable the test pilot

I just noticed test driver in the list of tools. I never loaded it. I also found that I was on the beta channel that I never accepted to be. I have loaded just release 23.01, but cannot remove the test pilot. It does not appear in the list of addons, so there is no option to delete.

How can I get rid of this unwanted addon?

On my old XP PC, kept for an earlier application only, I run Firefox 19.0.2 with updates disabled (never check the updates). Yesterday, an application of the test pilot appeared request an update for one of "my studies". Had no idea that this was therefore rejected. Arises once or twice more, so I looked for info and found this page. How she came in my non updated geriatric FF? Remove it now.

  • SQL Server (disabling the Balooning pilot?)

    Hello

I heard something about 'disable your balooning for your production SQL Server driver'?

Is this true? Should I do this? (My ESX Server has enough free memory, the server should not put any pressure on my sql servers)

is there some other best practices of the SQL 2005 server virtualization?

    Any help would be appreciated!

What's the point? It will serve only when it does not have enough available resources or when you set a lower limit on the amount of memory put into service. And even then, if you have uninstalled it the next step when there is not enough resources would be the vmkernel swap that always means a performance decrease. I prefer to have the operating system choose pages that share the VMkernel this randomly.

If you want to continue to do an article that explains how without uninstalling the driver here:

  • balloon pilot

What is balloon pilot how it will work

An important: If you don't not install them the VMware Tools, the vmmemctl driver (ball) will not be installed and balloon would not be possible. ESXi has 4 memory management techniques:

    (1) transparent page sharing: eliminates redundant copies of pages of memory, subtracting them to memory and create a reference instead.
    2) memory ballooning: in times of conflict, the balloon pilot (comes with VMware Tools) will ask the OS invited for unused memory and returns it back to vSphere
    (3) compression of memory: after the balloon runs out, try to compress the memory (essentially gzipping it).
    (4) the disk swap / cache host: Swap memory on a disk any.

So, without the ball the VMware tools (vmmemctl) driver is installed, we will have 3 memory management techniques. It ignores the montgolfière and goes directly to the compression.

  • Help understanding balloon pilot

    Hello

Trying to wrap your head around the Vmware balloon pilot. I think I understand, but hoping someone here can confirm or put me in the right direction. We had a problem of performance recently, which turned out be a storage problem, but the use of memory on our guests have caught my attention.

We have a cluster with eight (8) ESXi 4.0 U2 guest - dual Xeon 6 core procs with 72 GB of memory each. 32 Win 2 k 3 customers spread evenly between hosts (4) each configured to use 20GB memory, but on average only use 15-17GB. No reserve on the set of CPU or memory. Standards equal overall of all guests. Use of memory on the host computers are consistenly below the physical memory on the server.

Once turned on the consistenly guests have 15-17 GB of memory that are assigned, even if on operating times more low Windows reports only by using 2.5 GB of memory. During periods of use lowest Vmware brings about active memory 1 GB, but 15-17 GB is always attributed to each guest.

Now, my understanding of the pilot balloon is that until there are conflicts of resources, it calls, which is why we are seeing only the 15-17 GB of memory always allocated for the guests and it never goes down - because we never run out of physical resources. If I run performace reports/charts, the ball of memory always show 0 on all the guests.

I understand the balloon pilot? Given the configuration, are allocations of memory of guests act properly. And could / should I think of other ways to optimize performance in the environment?

    Thanks in advance.

    -Adam

I think you have a good understanding of the use of scenarios for the balloon pilot.  For me, your environment seems to be installed, at least from a perspective of resources VM, much like ours.  We didn't put no limit and not to use any resources, other than the DRS pools.

  • Balloon pilot underway to run with a lot of available memory - looking for answers as to why.

I have a couple of ESX servers that are running Active balloon pilot, but there seems to be a lot of available memory to support current workloads. VC watching one of these ESX servers in the Summary tab memory use displays 14,08 GB of memory used out of 32 GB. When we look at ESXTOP = MEMCTL (Mo): 437 curr, target 437, max 10649. It seems that the balloon pilot has reached its target and I expect that he finish and stop the execution. NO VM have limits configuration for their use of resources, is not using pools of resources.  I'm just curious as to why these servers are showing a ball activity while the other ESX servers with much more demanding workloads are not... Thank you

I have what I think, it's a mouse Toshiba PA3706E (it's the one in the picture below)

It has a small button of Alt + Tab at the worst place in the fact that it could be, and I was wondering if anyone knows a way to disable? Well, if the software that came with the mouse, does not support this option, then I put t see any other possibility to disable the button ALT + TAB.

How to disable the touchpad in windows 8 - Pavilion g6

    Welcome to the forum, Sally.

There are several ways to do this - method you choose may depend on what you need to accomplish.

    Follow a few ideas.

    • A double tap farm in the upper left corner of the touch pad if it off for a single session.

    Enable / disable

Control Panel > display icon > mouse > Settings of TouchPad > click on "enable TouchPad.

They continue parameters to install and configure the TouchPad as you like it...

    ==========================================================================

A method that works with the pilots 'old', it is a failure of session by session...

Make sure this setting is ON / CHECKED:

Control Panel > display icon > mice > TouchPad [ClickPad] settings >

() repeat) TouchPad settings (button) > click tapping >

    Click the shimmering blue wheel

In "box to Disable TouchPad settings".

CHECK "Double Tap to activate / disable the TouchPad.

In the 'Action in the upper left'

CHECK "Disable the TouchPad during a session.

    Close

    Ok

NOTE that, if it is available on your version, you can select to "turn off the TouchPad" - that's fine, unless something goes wrong.  You could get stuck without your USB mouse AND no way to return to the setting to activate the touchpad.  I don't know if I would use this setting.

    ======================================================================================

    Next...
Latest drivers (V16.x) have the ability to disable the TouchPad / click on the keypad with a setting on the main page 'Settings' when a USB mouse is used.  This is a very nice feature.

Control Panel > display icon > mice > TouchPad [ClickPad] settings >

CHECK "disable the pointing device internal when the external USB pointing device is attached.

If you want to be alerted and see a visual cue of disability >

TICK "Animated icon in the taskbar" >

and make sure you have your updated task bar notifications so you can see the view of the mouse.

  • Z930 protected - will not disable the Touchpad

    Hello world

Thanks in advance for your help. I have a laptop Toshiba protégé Z930.
The button above the Tablet (built in mouse on the laptop) which usually disables the touchpad no longer works.

This is why I can not disable the touchpad. Also function F9 or turn off the touchpad.
This makes me think that it's a software problem. I updated the driver, and nothing has changed.

Someone knows how to fix this?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Could you give more details about your problem?

For example: what Windows system do you use?
    Other FN keys work correctly?
    This driver updated you exactly?

Have you tried to reinstall the Package added on the value of the Toshiba (for Win 7)?
This package contains a few pilots required and tools that control different functions for laptop.
So next to the touchpad driver installation, this package should be installed / updated also.

  • disable the audio 3d

HOW CAN I DISABLE THE 3D AUDIO EFFECT?  I think that this effect is causing the following problem:

I created an audio file which plays the sound in my left ear without noise in my right ear, and then plays sound in my right ear without any in my left ear.  When I plug my headphones into the computer and play the sound, he plays not properly - the ears of his left ear out on both ears and right ear sounds spell on both ears. When I copy the audio clip on my ipod shuffle, my helmet up to this hook, the clip plays exactly as it should: statement sound ear only left ear and right ear his right ear only.

I think that this is due to the computer trying to always emulate a 3d environment.  I looked everywhere to turn off this abliity 3d but can't find it.

I have a Studio 1555; It shows the AMD high definition Audio Device and the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC installed.

I tried already tried a few things: 1 - disable the CODEC just turns off the sound altogether.  2. There is no setting in the IDT Control Panel to adjust the 3d. 3-different software all have the same problem (I tried VLC player, windows media, media player classic, itunes and audactity player)

Open the playback of the sound properties (right-click on the taskbar, the audio icon), right click on speakers/headphones, and then click Properties. Click the enhancements tab, and then check "disable all enhancements."

Play the file correctly through the internal speakers? If it's just to play well only through headphones, then it might be a hardware failure. A good test would be to try r. native Windows audio playerassuming that you do not have XP that does not have a native audio driver for HD audio.

If he plays straight wiith this driver that would confirm a configuration issue with the IDT pilot is the cause of the problem. If you have the same symptoms when you use the native driver, which would exclude the driver IDT as the culprit, leaving a bad non - IDT configuration or hardware. (If the file is read correctly with native audio driver through headphones but very well through the speakers then certainly it is material - probably the headphone jack.)

After completing the trial with the native driver, download a new copy of the driver IDT of the Studio 1555 downloads page. Don't forget first - select your XP, Vista or 7 operating system. When you install the new driver files will fix any problem with the IDT pilot configuration, because it will install with its default configuration.

  • How can I disable the touchpad on my laptop Pavilion dv4155cl?

I have a Pavilion laptop dv4155cl and HATE the touchpad, mainly because when you type on the keyboard, the keypad is just under my Palm of the right hand, and it hinders so try to type as the guard cushion see my Palm by tapping the touchpad, and mess substance upward. My old dv1000 was a dedicated switch just above the touchpad to turn, but this one isn't, and since I use a mouse exclusively in any case, I would just turn off the internal touchpad but don't know how? I tried to uninstall through Control Panel, but whenever I restart the computer Windows sees it as new hardware and reinstall... Can someone tell me please how to disable it without having to tear the thing apart and unplugging it physically?

BTW, I am running Win XP Home Edition SP3

Well, since I messed with it fo the day I managed to solve this myself :-) Here's what I did. First I went into the control panel and checked the properties of the mouse, I discovered that there are 3 displayed here, TWO who registered as a HID-Compliant mouse and the 3rd like PS2 Mouse. In reviewing the properties of each, I've found that BOTH HID devices had the ability to be either be enabled or disabled, and by disabling each of them in turn, I discovered that my USB mouse is turned off and the other turned off something else but neither off the touchpad, this left ONLY the PS2 Mouse to be the touchpad... so I looked at its properties and could find NO WAY within its property to disable tabs your device, then I noticed it's file of the pilot was very old, the way back in 201 actually, so I decided to try to update the driver, I have DID in selecting the automatic update, which was the recommended choice, after small time it found and installed a driver Alps dated in 2005 and he then told me he had to restart to the pilot would be usable. After that, I looked in the propertieds Alps & on one tab named others, there is a selection that says use Touchpad & PS2 Mouse, then when I unchecked this selection, the touchpad is now disabled and my USB mouse still works perfectly... Exactly what I wanteed. Of course, reselect this question in properties reactivates the touchpad, it gives me a convenient way to enable or disable the internal touchpd at will, so KUDOS to me... :-)
