    Hi Juleskk,

    Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

    Method 1: You can try the steps in the article mentioned below and check.

    Cannot find the Rundll32.exe file when you open Control Panel

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/812340

    Method 2: I also suggest that you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

    The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

    Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

    Important: While hard disk analysis if bad sectors are found when scanning try to repair this area, all available on which data can be lost.

    Method 3: Try the SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer.

    To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

    a. click Startand type cmd in the box start the search .

    b. right click on cmd in the list programs, and then click run as administrator.

    c. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue

    d. at the command prompt, the following line and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow

    What is your problem and you, why you have one?  Something or someone say you?

    Since the Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system request when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

    Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and a lot of time as possible.

    Provide information on your system, the better you can:

    What is your system brand and model?

    What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

    What is your Internet browser and version?

    Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

    The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

    You have a genuine XP installation CD bootable, which is the same Service as your installed Service Pack (this is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

    What do you see (exactly) that you don't think you should see, and when you see it?

    What do not you think that you should see?

    If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

  • Disk Defragmenter cannot open

    I try to defragment the disk, but I get this error message. disk defrag cannot open. Thanks for any help

    The exact wording of your error message would be useful? If you have installed an another disk defragmenter?

    Most Defragmenter problem arises a disk problem. Select Start, run, type cmd and press ENTER. Type "chkdsk c: /f /r" without the quotes and press ENTER. Make sure you include the spaces indicated. Enter Y when asked if you want to run chkdsk on restart the computer. Quit and then restart the computer.

    Marking bad sectors on a hard disk takes time so be patient. Delimiting does not repair a defective sector. He places pointers to the reader by saying the system not to read or write to these areas that have been damaged.

    If the number of defective sectors continued to increase after using the procedure above several times, then you should replace the disk. If an important system file is written to a bad sector, you can corrupt the registry hives and lose the entire contents of the disc.

    However if have run chkdsk you not see more new bad sectors, then the reader can work for you for years.

  • Cannot find the operating system at startup

    Using my Vista PC, I installed XP-Pro(32bit) disk a HARD tour, (which HARD drive has been correctly removed from the target computer), but now my Vista PC can not find any OS.

    (I HOPE a different permutation - thanks.)

    If you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html

    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/

    ISO Burner:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

    It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

    It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

  • Cannot find OS in system recovery mode

    Try to repair/recover my laptop ASUS F5R running Vista Home Basic.

    When I try to start, I get the message "BOOTMGR is missing".

    The recovery of Microsoft disk, I downloaded does not work - I get to the part where he seeks the OS but can't find it. I then get isntructed to load for disk drivers hard but don't know which file it is from the utility disc.

    ASUS technical support were not much help.

    There is no free legal copy available for download.  You will need to find someone with the drive and take long enough to do the installation.  Otherwise if the manufacturer won't help you with the recovery Partition or recovery discs (and they should) then you need to replace the software.  Frankly, if the didks of recovery do not work, I'm not sure that an Installation of Vista genuine disc will do better.  You may have a bad hard drive (or other hardware) which must be repaired or replaced (in which case you will need to take to a reputable computer shop for Diagnostics repair and repair)-despite the ability to install other operating systems and make them function.

    Here is Microsoft's policy on replacement software: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • In the Windows error recovery process, cannot find an operating system

    When the System Recovery Options box asking the OS to repair, nothing is displayed.  Does this mean that I have to restore the machine to its original configuration?  And if that's the case is anyway to recover a part of the HDD before restoring data?

    Try this to back up your data before reinstalling:

    Data recovery:

    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.

    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.

    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:

    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html

    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
    Download the Vista software from the link above.
    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.
    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.
    See you soon.
    Hi centi,.
    1. Why did you start the windows recovery environment by pressing the F8 key?
