Disk partition external hard indicates vacuum. Properties shows 96 GB used.

I have an external hard drive partition that shows to be empty.  However, when I look at the properties, it shows 96 GB used.  I have "Show hidden files" on. No explanation?

It may be a hidden system partition.  Also the les fichiers files from hidden view, uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" as well.

  • Files missing after moving iMovie events from local disk to external HARD disk. Are they lost?

    Hi all

Tonight, I tried to clear up little space on my local HARD drive and wanted to spend my events/projects of the iMovie local library to an external HARD disk, which I connected via firewire 800.

I opened iMovie (v10.1 - current version with all updates installed). I clicked on an event to highlight and then the FILE--> COPY OF LIBRARY of selected EVENTS.

There, I sailed on the external drive and created an iMovie new library called ReWatch2015. I copied successfully eight different events, including files from my external hard drive.

The ultimate goal is to get rid of them on the HARD drive internal, I highlighted the 20 remaining events I wanted to move and then used the FILE--> MOVE of EVENTS at the LIBRARY and specified ReGen_2015.

It seemed at first glance to move. In fact, he seemed to move too darn fast in my opinion. When I looked at home in the library of the external drive, they were nothing more than a string of question marks, with a message telling me that particular item is not found and re-import the original clips. It's impossible because I have not kept the original source material on my internal drive. I had asked before if they are preserved in the library of iMovie and told me Yes, so I that's why I deleted the original source material.

Don't see no activity on the disks, I did the cmd - Z to go back. Events have now shown upward into the iMovie library internal. HOWEVER, they still have the question mark, with msg on reimport. What is scary, is that if I go to ALL projects of them have visible thumbnails. Yet, when I click on any of these thumbnails to load the project into the editor, I am back to the page of question mark again.

Are the file on drive HARD internal, and they just disassociated projects, or two-thirds of my library of events of 2015 are now toast? I was not under any type of backup Time Machine to be able to recover them, and frankly, if they left, it is not the end of the world since I was of the .mp4 displayed on Vimeo. But, I would just assume the iMovie library intact if possible.

Suggestions on how to recover are greatly appreciated!

    Robert

    Hi Robert

Am having exactly the same problem on a new iMac 2016 running El Capitan: when I want to MOVE events such as you describe it, they sometimes get lost in the original library, both in the target library. Like you, I noticed that a such attempt to move just a very short time even if several GB of data play a role. Sometimes however, iMovie is able to move successfully. I my case, I had to re - import events so lost since an additional backup, I got on another external drive that I couldn't find the clips 'lost' on the HARD drive more. Very scary!

I think it's an iMovie/El Capitan question which could be corrected with future updates. The only solution I've found is to the events of the FIRST COPY, and then check if the target is really OK and only then select the MOVE option, which will remove the original library to free up space. In addition, I plan to copy on a regular basis my library full iMovie on an extra disk to backup using the finder.

Did you find anything in the meantime?

  • Change disk to external hard drive

I have an external hard drive, which always used TSE will automatically connect to drive F:.  He started to connect to G: or H: and I cannot impose it connects to F:.  Even if I use USB keys for use of G:, H:, etc., the hard drive will not always connect to F:, it selects a letter later in the alphabet.  Readers of the pen will automatically connect to F: if it's free.  I have control of subversion as a back up so I can use the same files on different computers and external hard disk contains the repositories.  The path to the repository is on F:, so unless I can connect to the hard drive on f: I can't commit the any changes and I have actually no control of subversion.

How can I gat the drive external hard for you connect to the computer on the way F:?

Try to set the drive letter on that drive to F: 'disk management '.
First mount your external drive, then make a right click on 'My Computer' then
    Manage-> Storage-> disk management
Then right-click on your external hard drive and select 'Letter of change of road and railways...'

  • Disk 320 external HARD USB 2.0-2.5 "can not find the driver

I recently bought a 320 GB 2.5 external HARD drive "USB 2.0, Alu - case and I have it in my laptop properly connected.
But my laptop is saying that he must "install driver software" and then he said: "windows found driver software for your device."

Is there anywhere that I can get the driver software?
Or something simple that will do well?

I'm on windows vista, if that's any help

    Thank you
    Sam x

In most cases you don't need drivers for USB storage devices. Provide special software as tools of encryption or password where you might need some kind of driver?

You can try and check if all windows updates are installed and connect it to a different USB port.
Do other USB devices such as memory sticks work card?

Just in case, test it with another computer.

You have two ways to 'import' of multimedia files, "importing" has two different meanings.

    1. you 'import' of ' camera or card reader "." Those are devices that are not supposed to keep their media constantly, you're supposed to 'Download' (copy) files on your computer where you want to, on an internal drive or external. This is why you set your import preferences to a default location. "Download" is followed by the 'indexing' of media files in the catalog.

    2. you "import" of files and folders: there is no difference between the drives internal or external. You should not need to copy your files elsewhere. An external hard drive is considered to be a permanent storage location. The word (bad) 'Import' only of the means "Indexing" in this case the files in the catalog.

If you want to copy or move the files to an external hard drive, you must perform that move yourself either from your operating system before the 'import = indexing' stage, or the organizer with the command move or drag and drop in the files Panel, if you have already "imported" in the catalog.

  • Windows 7 cannot see my external hard drive, even if I don't use it on this computer!

I have 2 external hard drives, both worked well on Windows 7. Now, on the same computer, no change, they stopped from within the computer. Drivers fine and visible in the devices. all ideas

    Hello Gus,

Windows 7, having trouble finding external drives is not uncommon. I use Aomei Partition Wizard to get Windows to recognize the drive; Download here: http://download.cnet.com/AOMEI-Partition-Assistant-Standard-Edition/3000-18512_4-75118871.html?tag=mncol;1 .

Once installed simply click on the external drive, and then select Properties. Who should get the drive recognized by Windows. See if that solves the problem for you.

    Kind regards

  • P30: External hard drive is not detected when you use IEEE 1394 cable

My P30 not / can not detect my newly acquired Western informed extreme Digitak Drive 320 when I connect via the firewire port. I use a 4-pin cable (which costs a fortune, by the way) who is supposed to be a way to connect this drive to a 6-pin pc.

My ieee 1394 driver seems to be called 'VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 host controller".

Can someone tell me what to do? I really need to connect the FireWire drive because I need the USBs for other devices.

    Thank you!

    Hi, Lars

It is really strange. I use the external DVD drive (DL) using the same cable. I tested it with several units (old Satellite 1900, Tecra M1 and also new Qosmio G20) and everything works perfectly.

Check the power supply to the external HARD drive.

  • I have a disc external hard cloned with Windows XP - can I use it in a dual boot with Windows 7 if both are 32-bit

I wish I could plug cloned this external USB hard drive with XP on it and use it with the computer that has Windows 7 installed on it.  Now Windows 7 is need to be installed on the computer and I have a choice of 32-bit or 64-bit when I re-install.   It helps to use 32-bit on WIndows 7?

Can someone give me pointers on how to accomplish this arrangement dualboot?

No, Windows XP must be installed on a locally attached drive (internal). You won't be able to boot from it on an external hard drive.

  • Partitioning external hard drive NTFS on iMac?

I have a 500 GB hd ext Omega, which is in NTFS format. I used it when I had a PC. I can still use TI-reading data, copy on Mac etc but unfortunately the space there I would use on it is inaccessible. I have two HD with files in MS-DOS (FAT) format. But I have a few files more than 5 GB, so I would like to create a partition exFAT, without losing the original files (aka, without formatting the HD).

One of them, when I use disk utility, I open the menu of partitioning, but when I try to add a new partition (by clicking on the button +) nothing happens! See the screenshot:

You can't resize a FAT partition. You cannot create a partition where there is no free space to do so. You can not re-partition / re - format the drive without erasing it.

  • External hard drive is not showing in my computer

I have an external drive that appears on the network folder, but not on the back of the computer.  How can I fix it?

    Original title: computer case

    Hi key,.

    ·        You have mapped external diving as a network drive?

I suggest to assign a drive letter of your external disk management and check if it can help solve you the problem and if you can display it in the window of the computer.

To assign or change the drive letter in disk management follow the steps below:

    a. management of open computer by clicking the theStart, clickingControl Panel by clicking system and security, , clickingAdministrative tools, and then double-click computer management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    b. in the left pane, clickDisk management.

    c. right click on the drive that you want to change, and then clickChange drive letter and path.

    d. do one of the following:

    ·        To assign a drive letter if it has not already received, click, click the letter you want to use, and then click OK.

    ·        To change a drive letter, clickChange, click on assign the following drive letter, click the letter you want to use, and then click OK.

    ·        To delete a letter drive, saved and then click Yes to confirm that you want to remove.

Access the link below to learn more about changing the drive letter.

    No operating system installed

    No hard drive located

    Bought used

Here's what's happening this laptop, I bought the other day who has no internal hard drive. How can I boot my laptop without a hard drive? Do I need an internal hard drive using my laptop, or could I just use an external hard drive? I don't think I can get on my hard drive they screw appeared to be hitting something I can get loose but not outside.

AY info would be great thank you

Extremely difficult to boot Windows XP from a disk usb external hard and will be extremely slow to use. Instructions to link here , but it seems to be down at the moment.

Impossible for Vista or Windows 7 that I know.

Screws for the cover of the hard drive come all the way, they stay with the cover, after loosening them that coverage will pop out.
