  I'll have a bit of a problem of storage configuration shared for vMotion and I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

  I try to have the following configuration:

  • ESXi 4.1 2 hosts (for example, A and B) who will run VMs.

  • ESXi 4.1 1 host (for example, C) as data store shared to keep VM configs.

  • 1 Server Windows Server 2008 running vCenter.

  In the end, I'd like to be able to create a store of data shared on C which A and B can read/write to so I can perform vMotion between A and B.

  It is possible to implement this config with a regular host of ESXi running on C? Currently all ESXi hosts are bare bones PC with IDE drives. In other words, I wonder if I can convert a regular ESXi running on an ordinary PC server to a host of shared storage or do I need a NAS dedicated instead of C for which?

  Finally, I would like to vMotion between two (i.e. ESXi hosts A and B) and keep the files of configuration on a separate host, preferably another plain of ESXi host with an ordinary IDE drive.

  I am very new to all this so I'd appreciate pointers.

  I do not know the material for ESXi host A and B.

  But in a scenario you want iSCSI, vMotion, storage

  There are at least 2 additional NIC for each ESXi host (VMotion requires Gigabit)

  If you want to host C for shared data storage,

  -You can go for a virtual machine that does the job (worst)

  -Make a box iSCSI dedicated with (http://www.openfiler.com/) OpenFiler or FreeNAS (http://freenas.org/downloads) (best)

  And do some additional reading on this forum about the use of these products.

  -Buy a (better) separate storage box

  If BOX C has an IDE drive, the performance is not good

  I don't know if you're gooing to run a production environment or just a laboratory.

  In the case of production, I recommend you check the compatibility, in case of support issues

  There is no 'RAM solution' for Windows Vista.  If you have a 32-bit version of Windows Vista, then you can install Service Pack 1 and it will allow you to 'see' the 4 GB of RAM on the property page, but it does not fully use it.

  We have 1 VLAN disabled on our standard Cisco Catalyst switches and use our default VLAN 11.  We have recently added some 221 VLAN for voice while implementing a new Cisco UC system.  I can't disable VLAN1, however, I made the default VLAN 11 and 221 VLAN voice.  In management of VLANS, I can UNTAG 11 (VLAN PVID) on all ports but the connection to the Cisco 6506/port Gigabit.  The port still tags VLAN 11 and 221 and removes the brand VLAN (PVID) 1.

  I tried to make changes to the switch when you are connected to the switch and when I do the setting, the switch loses the connection to the 6506.  If I make the appropriate changes to GI (1) when you are connected to GI (2), the change takes effect, however, when I move the connection to GI (1) cable, the port and VLAN 11 configuration changes becomes identified and VLAN1 becomes marked.

  As far as I know, we don't have Backup Exec for ESXi host agent. If you want to take a backup of the configuration files to can do this through the vCLI l command vicfg - cfgbackup.p

  You may need to enable tcp/ip

  SQL Server Express to listen on the named pipes and shared memory. With a default installation, you can not connect remotely to SQL Server Express. You'll need to enable TCP/IP and check if the firewall is enabled.

  To enable TCP/IP:
  On the start menu, choose all programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Configuration Manager.

  Optionally, you can open the computer by right click on Desktop Manager then choosing manage. In computer management, expand Services and Applications, SQL Server Configuration Manager.

  Expand SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration, and then click protocols for InstanceName.

  In the list of protocols, right-click the protocol you want to enable and then click Enable.

  The icon for the Protocol change to indicate that the Protocol is enabled.

• Can't ssh ESXi 5 host

  I had to do a strengthening of security on a host computer and now I can't ssh in.  I can go back to what I did, but I want to clarify what line in the sshd_config file is the cause.  I'll list out what I have:

  The SSH server is enabled and running under Firewall and ssh and ESXi shell is running on the host computer in the security profile

  I can connect to the host via the HP Onboard Administrator, both the shell and the DCUI

  I use putty and I put the 3DES encryption cipher selection policy and I tried to tell the version of the SSH 2 Protocol only, I went back with only 2 and just selection 2

  I can connect to the host directly with root and with an admin account, that set up the shell and DCUI

  I know that root cannot ssh in the host since PermitRootLogin is set to no, I'm getting my secondary account

  I immediately receive an error "The network connection closed unexpectedly Server", so it's going to stop until I can grasp anything.

  Finally, the ESXishelltimeout is 900 seconds

  I don't know what the sshd_config fie since I edited it's just before I had this problem.
