Display settings, theme and screen saver windows are unclickable/not unresponsive.

Hey well yesterday when I restarted my computer it set itself to a screen resolution 800 x 600. He has done this before, so I know how do to solve this problem, but when I went to view the settings to change the resolution of the window upward but my pointer turned to the insensitive loading blue circle and if I tried to click on what whether the program immediately become unresponsive. I checked and it was the same for any customization option that opened this area full settings, including the theme and screen saver. I am sure that this problem lasts for a long time, because I remember trying to update my screensaver a few months ago and have the box not to answer. But I have not had to use my display settings since then, so I thought nothing of it.

In any case, help would be appreciated, because I really look forward to working with a resolution of 800 x 600. Thank you very much! :)

I am running Windows 7 and noticed that Windows updates did not work. The parameters are defined for the update every day. When I went to update manually returned an error WindowsUpdate_80070017.  MSFT site was no help. Any recommendations?

Since neither updates Jan - 10 have installed, I'm going to hand you Support MS in the hope that they can resolve the problem. See below.

That being said, is an interpretation of the 80070017 - cyclic redundancy check error "a device attached to the system does not work," which suggests that a hardware problem might be the cause of the error (although I must say that it is a very low possibility in this case).

    Good luck!

    screen saver issues: original title

I am eager to turn the password on the screen saver and it won't let me the option are greyed out it is set to go to 3 minutes and it wont let me change these settings. Help help

    Hi melharstad,

    (1) have you been able to change the settings before screensaver?

    (2) do you use the computer as an administrator?

Method 1: If a Protection of resources Windows (WRP) file is missing or is damaged, Windows may not behave as expected. Auditor of file system (CFS) scan to fix all of the corrupted system files. To do this, follow the steps mentioned in the link below:

How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Method 2:

    (a) go to START > run and type REGEDIT and press ENTER. The Registry Editor opens.

    (b) find the following registry key:

    (c) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop

    (d) find the entry that says SCRNSAVE. EXE and the clear key.

    (e) also, if you have an entry that says ScreenSaveActive, delete this key as well.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • Screen Saver policy area group settings

I'm trying to implement GPO to set the screensavers on all users in my area. I'll put the user configuration-> policies-> administrative templates-> Control Panel / settings for customizing as follows:

    Activate the screen saver: enabled
    Specific screen power saver: enabled
The name of the screensaver exe: scrnsave.scr
Password protect the screen saver: enabled
Prevent the change the screensaver: enabled
Screen saver timeout: number of 1800 seconds (30 minutes)
On six test computers, both windows XP and the four windows machines 7 everything works as it should.
When I push it to my area on 30 computers have the screensaver kick in at random intervals, some as little as a minute.
I did some research and determined that, on some machines, the GPO is not written the existing already defined users out time, screensaver or in the case of them having not quite a game uses a timer to one minute. The registry keys on a few computers I checked all vary. Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER-> Panel-> office: some computers have the right number of parameters, but are not defined to those pushed by the GPO. Some have only the ScreenSaveActive parameter, this computer still works as it should however. I found that if I go and change the screen of sleep timeout manually on some computers and applied, then they work as they should. I wonder why the GPO overrides any setting that users were able to previously and use those that is pushed down to them. If I have nothing done wrong or missed some setting or anything as to why they do not work as they should.

  • SAVE DESKTOP THEMES (BACKGROUND) AND SCREEN SAVER QUESTION!

My machine (Dell Desk Top computer) came with everything that I bought with it and I don't have the disc of recovery as well, so, I was just wondering if you can please tell me if there is a way I can save the screen savers and the desktop themes (sets) that accompanies as some of them , or just for nice in the trash when I use the recovery disc (not the one that came with it that I purchased separately from Dell), because they will be gone forever when I do. I don't want to lose them, after that I'm doing the recovery. I would go to the workstation, click on (c :)) local folders on disk, Program Files or WINDOWS to locate their and if so how or is there an easier way to do this and if so, how?) Thank you!

    Hello

OK, first of all visit C:\WINDOWS\Resources you will see a Themes folder, you should be able to right click on this folder, select copy and paste it on your desktop. It's your saved themes.

Alternatively, you can try to find your screensavers by name in the search box. Screensavers in Windows normally have *.scr for if you find everything with different extensions these back up. Some screensavers have .exe extension, but this is a very common extension in Windows so you find your screensavers in between it will be hard. SceenSavers may extend installation directories, but normally you can right click and click 'Install' on screensavers to reinstall on a new operating system.

When you find all your .bmp / .jpg Yes circles, you can just click on them and copy and paste them.

Just take note where you have saved, so you can re-install on a reinstall.

  • I can't turn my screen saver (Windows 7)

I've exhausted all the means, I can think of to fix this.

My computer no matter what settings I have in the game comes back to my (empty) screensaver is active every 10 minutes. I use my computer as my television station. I can't begin to explain how annoying this is episode mid or movie just have the screen off. I NEED HELP!

Well, it means that another process is changing the choice.  It could be a policy of the administrator, a virus, another program 'useful' or something else.  It is not a part of Windows, since there is no function in programming to change the screen saver (if you're curious, you can try in safe mode to verify that Windows is running in a State of cleanliness is not able to change).

If you can't track down the political agenda or the process that is the cause, you can try a tool like Process Explorer from Microsoft to trace, program that changes the value of screen saver registry key.

Or if you really want to 'brute force', you can go into the registry and set security to deny all access to the screen saver registry key.
