  • Documents folder redirected to the flash player and not able to change

    Hello

I am running Vista and for some odd reason the documents folder is redirected to the USB flash drive. I changed the location of the default documents folder target. No luck.

The strange thing is that I am not able to remove the flash drive as he continues to tell me it is in use and I am not able to open documents if the flash player is not inserted.

    How can I fix?

    Thank you very much.

    No, did not work.

Don't worry, will reinstall the machine. No such thing as a good clean start :)

How can I add a 'Record number' column for my music files?  It does not appear as a column I add when I right click on the folder in its display of details.  Zune program uses this file attribute.

I learned from this thread (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpromedia/thread/47e46e5a-63c0-4a92-b39d-64ea9a07953e) Windows Media Player 12 IS NOT only an attribute of disc number!  Incredible.  Zune has it, and it works fine.   Come on Microsoft, please join us in THIS century it please?

  • Impossible to change an attribute of read-only for the My Documents folder in Windows 8

    Problem:

Everything I put in My Documents directory is converted into read-only, so all my files in this folder (especially my PDFs) cannot be opened OR downloaded/sent online. I tried to use cmd and Type attrib - r "c:\users\myaccountfoldername\documents" but nothing works, document folder still has that little padlock on its icon. I also gave everyone full access to this folder, but whatever I do, I can't change the property "read only". Even if I uncheck that manually in the properties, it continues to go back.

I looked for a solution now and I still have solved it. I ignore it if I could, but I put a lot of important and frequently accessed files in my library of Documents, so I really need to get this figured out soon.
I just bought this laptop about a week ago, it came with Windows 8. I'm not sure but I think that this problem happened to me when I joined the homegroup on my local network and began to share files so that I can transfer my old files from my old laptop.
With this in mind, I tried also to leave the homegroup and restart. The Documents folder was read-only a minute or two after I restarted, but then it became like this again after some time.
I know that it was designed for the safety of my files and everything, but what should I do with my 'secure' files, if I can't even open a simple PDF file?
I am the administrator and the user account only on this laptop

    Platform:
    64-bit Windows 8
    Path in question:

I finally understood what was causing the problem! Apparently, he was in the Service of protection against theft by MacAfee (that I installed immediately after the purchase of my new laptop) encrypt all the files in the Documents folder and all the office files that I have! Which explains why no matter how many times I try to seize or delete and redo the folder my documents, it simply would not work. I finally uninstalled the hassle of a service and I can now access my files again :)

  • How can I move the "Virtual Machines" folder to the My Documents folder?

VMwareFusion is to put the "Virtual Machines" folder in the Documents folder in the home folder (/users/ [username] / Documents), how can I move elsewhere (as/Library/Application Support)? The user Documents folder is not the right place for automated it system files, it is intended for personal documents.

I am running VMware Fusion on OS X Yosemite (and the virtual machine is Windows 7).

You can keep your virtual machines anywhere you want. Here are the steps to move:

1 exit VMware Fusion. You can stop first of all of your running virtual machines.

    2. drag your virtual computers folder or the individual VM "files" where you / them. Filenames usually end in ".vmwarevm". There is no need to call the new folder "Virtual Machines" - you can call it anything you like.

    3. Launch VMware Fusion. If the library of the Virtual Machine window is not open, open it (Windows menu-> Virtual Machine library).

    4. ensure that all of your icons for the virtual machine are light gray and say "file not found".

    5. right click on each virtual machine in turn, and select Remove. When you are done, leave the window of Machine virtual library empty open.

    6. in the Finder, drag the icons of file virtual machine in their new location and drop them in library of virtual machines VMware Fusion window. Drop them one by one in the original order, you got, or rearrange icons later.

    7. run your virtual machines as before.

When you create new virtual computers, navigate to the desired file before the Save.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you your folder of Machines ~/Documents/Virtual excluded from backups Time Machine, don't forget to change the exclusion to the new folder.

Time Machine backups are not reliable for virtual machines. You must have another strategy. (I shut the virtual machine down, compress the 'file', and then move the compressed file to a folder that is included in the Time Machine backups. This isn't the only strategy, but it works for me.)

  • My Documents appears twice in the homegroup to a networked computer.

The homegroup was created on my computer (MARCO-HP). A second identical computer joined the homegroup and everything works fine. However, on the second computer, the homegroup folder looks exactly as follows:

    Homegroup
    Marco (MARCO-HP)
    Documents
    My Documents (\\MARCO-HP)
    Music
    My music (\\MARCO-HP)
    Photos
    My pictures (\\MARCO-HP)
    Videos
    My videos (\\MARCO-HP)
    My Documents

Why the "My Documents" folder appears in the 'Documents' folder and again outside it in the folder 'Marco (MARCO-HP)' on this second computer? The content is identical in both files, so I presume that they are pointing to the same location on my computer. How can I remove it?

    Hello

The first are the libraries, the second is the actual file. If you have the specific folder in addition to the libraries, then this is the cause why you see two folders my documents. You can check if this folder is shared.

Do not delete the folder, instead of remove the share on this particular file folder.

    Hello everyone!

Recently, I lost my the user documents folder and it recovered (by good help here).  However in my work to solve the problem the blue Documents folder icon under the folder Documents (user) Windows icon colored in an ordinary vanilla folder icon.  Then is the same thing to my real user (name) folder icon, he went to a single file of vanilla.  I don't remember how I did it.

Problem: I would like to restore the icon of folder my documents to original blue color documents windows folder icon?  And restore my user to original windows icon folder icon?

    Help would be appreciated?

    Hi Richard,

    1. you try to change folder icon?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps and check if it helps.

Method 1: Follow the link and check if that helps.
Choose a picture for your user account and start menu

Method 2: Restore the default settings of the folder my documents and check if it helps.

    (a) right click on My Documents.

    (b) click on properties.

    (c) go to previous Versions.

    (d) click on Restore Defaults.

    (e) click OK.

Method 3: Rebuild the icon cache and check if it helps.

    (b) open a Windows Explorer window.

    c) go to C:\Users\(User Name) \AppData\Local

    (d) right-click on IconCache.db and click on delete.

NOTE: This removes the file to the trash. It is safe to empty the trash when you are done.

    (f) close the window.

    (g) empty the trash.

    (h) restart the computer.

    (i) when you return, you will notice the size of the file IconCache.db is reduced, and the update is now the current date. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: If for some reason any IconCache.db isn't there or the size has not changed much, then just restart the computer again. You may need to restart a few times in some cases.

  • Media Player: I can't find a way to create a burn list, because the music does not appear in the media player library

    Hi all

I loaded music from a USB key for the 'my music' folder in the document library, even though I can play music through media player, I can't find a way to create a burn list, because the music does not appear in the media player library - can you please help?

No need to copy and paste.  Simply add the folder that contains the music files to the library in this same dialog box.

  • 4.0EA1 - "My Documents" folder is not accessible

    Hello

When I right click on a table in the table under a specific connection list and select "Import data", various files are displayed as 'My Documents '. When I click on the "My Documents" folder, I get an error saying that the directory is not accessible. I tried the "Run as Administrator" option in Windows, but the error persists.

    OS: Windows 7, Enterprise Edition

    SQL Developer: 4.0.0.12

    JDK: 1.7.0_25

    Kind regards

    Ousseni

I see this as a problem in general with the file panel, not only with the import.  It's probably a problem with the component that we use and the magic that makes windows 7 with the My Documents folder.  You must also have a folder of Documents shown in this dialog box.  The Documents folder must be the same as the My Documents, but you should have problems of access to it.  I am filing a bug.

  • By mistake, I created the folder models: How can I cancel it?

While I was trying to store a message by saving it as a file, I rather recorded as a model by mistake, and this led to the creation of the models folder. I would like to cancel it, but I don't know how. In addition, because I don't want to do the same thing and more, I would also cancel the backup command a message as a template, which always appears when I want to record a message. Is it possible to eliminate this possibility?

UH ok, I just looked in Thunderbird and it does not offer an option to delete or the delete key does nothing.

In theory, we can go to the profile, a file manager and remove all related files, such as templates and the Templates.msf.

However, yours is an IMAP-connected account, so there will be a corresponding models folder on the server. To remove it, we need to remove it in the two sites. Ordinarily, deleting a message or a folder in Thunderbird would do that for us at the server level too, but given that Thunderbird does this particular issue, we need to do it another way.

    1. Close Thunderbird
    2. Remove models and Templates.msf files in the subfolder right through your file manager
    3. Go to the website of your access provider, connect to their webmail and delete the folder models too.

Now you can restart Thunderbird and there will be no more folder models .

But there is nothing don't recreate you through the same kind of accident that made this one. And I don't really understand your concern. Now I looked, all my accounts are empty and unused folders of templates, but I never noticed. They do no harm, they do not get in my way. Why bother to delete?

  • Kill the "My Documents" folder in Windows Explorer for XP

Whenever I have called Windows Explorer in my copy of XP and then click on 'Files', the 'My Documents' folder is displayed.
Except that I do not use it and don't want it.
I tried in vain to get rid of him, but when I right click on it and press DELETE, it tells me that the content will not be deleted, only the icon, which would be nice.  But it's that - the icon remains.

You can't delete My Documents. This is a directory on the system. If you want Explorer to open up My Documents, you can change the shortcut to Explorer as follows:

Go to programs > Accessories - right click on the Windows Explorer icon, select properties and type or copy / paste the following text in the target box:

    % systemroot%\EXPLORER. EXE/e, c:

This will open the Explorer to C:\. You can also create a desktop for Windows Explorer with the same command icon. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • The folder location of the root of the Documents folder locations

Why are also copied the files listed under Documents to the users folder?

    Hi Jack,

I would like to inform you that the exact location of the Documents folder in the C: drive is

    C:\Users\\My Documents

My Documents contains the same information from libraries as well.

It is only in this way that we watch it the location of the Documents folder is not displayed in the location of the source when opened directly.

    Hope this information helps.

  • Why I have two versions of a document folder in Word in the way that I take?

If I go via libraries > Documents > word I get a folder containing all the documents expected.

If I go via libraries > Documents > My Documents > Word the same folder contains only a single document.

    (I'm on Win7 64 bit)

Windows 7 organizes files and folders a little differently than Windows XP.  In particular, a Windows 7 library is a consolidated view files related in one place.  If you look at your document library, you will see that there is a line that says something like: "Includes X locations," where the X is probably 2, but could be of 3 or more.

If you click this link, you will see something like this:

In your case, you seem to have created two folders named Word.  Know where the records are located is made even more difficult because in Windows 7, the folder that is displayed as "My Documents" is actually named "Documents" - at least the default folder of the same name that is automatically created by Windows.  The screenshot above shows the same behavior with regard to the "My pictures" folder

I suggest do you the folder that has now all documents in your "Default save location" (you can do a right click on it in the window above).  Place the single document of the other "Word" file in your "save default location", and then delete this file.

  • Windows search fails to find the files in the Documents folder

Original title: Windows 7 search finds no files, even though all the settings have been verified and the search index has been rebuilt

I recently bought a new Dell laptop Studio 1558 with Windows 7 Home Premium and moved through several hundred documents from my old PC to the new folder 'My Documents'.

As many others have found, Windows Search has been completely useless. She seems to have no problem finding files in the music folder or image, but anything in the document library is invisible to the it - even if I get in a subfolder small for a file name I see just in front of me, Windows Search will announce that "no element not corresponding to your search.

I took a number of steps so far to fix the problem, which none have worked:

    1. I checked which locations are indexed for search and ensured that the document library is among them (as well as all of my C drive).

    2. I checked that appropriate file extensions (.doc .docx .pdf, etc.) are all selected from the "File Types" list in indexing options (although I noticed that 'Description of filter' for .pdf bed "Registered IFilert is not found" - not this problem with Word documents).

    3. I have deleted and rebuilt the search index.

    4. I ran the troubleshooting Windows 7 Search tool, which reports that it cannot find any problems.

    5. I have read that some problems with Windows 7 search can be solved by changing a registry key (http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-fix-windows-7-search-problems/) but when I navigate to the folder in my registry, only following three keys are here (not the one mentioned in the difficulty):

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\ {0B2BAAEB-0042-4DCA-AA4D-3EE8648D03E5}
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\ {36011842-DCCC-40FE-AA3D-6177EA401788}
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\ {59BD6DD1-5CEC-4D7E-9AD2-ECC64154418D}

A couple of things, I said - if I create a new word document and save it, Windows Search seems to immediately get back on it and is able to find. I also noticed that at first when I opened one of the word documents that have been transferred over the old PC and then closed it again, Windows Search picked up on it and could find it. So I went to try to open and close then all of my documents (an arduous task...), but the subject to halfway through Windows Search has ceased to be able to find them.

All Word documents using Microsoft Word 2007 in .doc or .docx format, although the problem also applies to Excel, PDF and image files, so I don't think that the problem is with the word itself.

I have tried everything I can think so far, including all the solutions, I could see suggested in previous discussions. I really need the search function working to effectively use my laptop so that any help would be welcome!

    Thank you, Jack

Santosh thanks, I checked the permissions for the appropriate files and SYSTEM was present, which doesn't seem to be the problem. However, I found a solution that might work for other people are having the same problem.

I noticed that if I changed the location of the files, Windows search suddenly seems to become aware that they existed and then indexed and followed them correctly - even if they were subsequently moved back to the original location. I just created a temporary folder outside my library of documents and then each subfolder in the folder my documents him and then come back, one by one. It was a bit laborious but the problem solved - I know not why it worked, but all the old files are now indexed and appear correctly when you use Windows Search, and it seems not to have any problems, follow-up of the newly created files.

    Cheers, Jack

  • Dropbox and Windows 7 - the 'My Documents' folder location

Is there a risk of changing the location of the "My Documents" folder either in Dropbox, so that all files are synchronized automatically?  This would avoid having to always drag files and remember what has been dragged and implemented to date.

Dropbox seems to be a good tool to keep all the files synchronized on multiple platforms and devices, and it's a suggestion in an article.  It have a negative impact in Windows or damage the organizational structure of the file?

As long as you use the button "Move" of Windows 7 in the properties of My Documents, that you will do whatever it is that Windows is not set up to do.  The "Move" button is discussed in the following article in Lifehacker, but 'RichR' post in forum Dropbox gives a description of the overall process with some advice on places where to set up your Dropbox folder before moving my Documents inside.  There are a number of other ways to accomplish the same thing but the do this as described above seems to be the simplest and also one that makes what Windows was already intended to do via the function "move".
