done f:\folder\ refers to a path that is not available

Hello

I am experiecing a question looking at you will get a folder on my external hard drive. I use this drive between Windows (xp & 7) and Mac laptops.

I can't access folder 69 GB of media files. If I try to access the folder, while the player is plugged into the Mac, it works very well.

If I try to access the folder with a Windows machine, I see the following error message:

"E: \T.V. refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network & try again.

If she still unable to be located, the information may have been moved. »

I tried chkdsk. I have atempted to reassign the drive letter. I am at a loss. I'm confident enough when you do most of the bugs, but I get nervous when it comes to regedit. Help, please... Thanks in advance.

I fixed that... However, I took a long journey around the to do.

Since I was able to access the folder in question with my Mac. I copied all of the necessary files in another folder (with a different name) to another external drive I have.

Once the copy has been completed outside the second, I have copeied the new folder on the original drive.

  • "The system cannot find specified file", or "refers to a location that is not available" in my folder music Public

I have a problem with several files that I can't remove. I bought a new laptop Windows 7 a few months ago, and my music library is located in an old Mac I installed iTunes and copied everywhere, but for some reason, a couple of directories has become corrupted in the process. I was able to move a couple of them from 'C:\Users\Public\Music' to 'C:\Corrupted records' so I don't have to look at, but one of them is

refusing to move. If I try to open it, I get the message "C:\Users\Public\Music\P.O.D. refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. Make sure that the disc is inserted correctly, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If I try to get the properties, the type of file is a folder (.) that opens with Windows Shell common. Reading alone and Invisible are unchecked. It is not shared. The requested security information are either unavailable or cannot be displayed. There are no previous Versions. I tried optimizing for music and General items.

I tried to remove it from a command line, and although he can be seen in the directory, I get an error if I try to delete or move it. I tried to delete it in Mode without failure. I tried to create another folder with the same name, and it creates a folder without end '. ", I'm able to remove, but the original is still there. I have tried uninstalling iTunes and iTunesHelper.exe cessation force.   I ran a chkdsk.  I looked in the registry. I tried to reboot in safe mode and try it. I tried to create a new account and delete from there. I tried to reset the permissions. I even deleted my entire library of music. If I try to change properties it tells me that the "system cannot find specified file."

This issue is driving me crazy... I should be able to just go and start over, but I won't be able to copy this particular music folder. I could live without it, I suppose, but I wouldn't not to-I fear that this will happen in folders more if I can't find a solution. I could ignore it, but I am too a retention... I installed servers in a previous life, and when such things happen that we do something more deep is what concerns me in particular.

    Any suggestions? Please?

Hi Zarebeth. I have the answer to your problem. The problem you are having is the same problem I had, it's a file name that ends with a '. '. (one point). That's THE problem, which has also caused all of your previous attempts remove this folder to fail. Windows does not allow you to create such a file, but Mac FACT (you mentioned that your music library lay on an old Mac)! Try for yourself, create a folder in Windows called "P.O.D." and Windows automatically re-writing this folder as "Painter" (note the last missing point). MAC doesn't have a problem with that, you can call your folder "P.O.D." witout any problem (but also allows you to call this 'Painter' folder (note the last missing point)). The only problem is when a folder created on a Mac device ends on a computer Windows, that happened when you copied the musicfolder of your Mac on your Windows 7 laptop. For example, I had the problem with music "C:\Users\Public\Music\M.I.A" and "C:\Users\Public\Music\T.I." after that I copied the files from my Ipod Touch (also a feature of Mac of course) for my new Windows 7 laptop to function.

Now, I can only tell you how to remove this folder, I don't know how to recover all the data that have remained in this "indelible" folder (if any). What you can do of course, is to return to your old Mac, rewrite the "P.O.D." folder as "Painter" (note the last missing point) which will BE recognized by your computer laptop Windows 7.

It's very simple, and you'll wonder how the sollution might actually be this simple :))

GO to "command prompt" (start > all programs > Accessories > prompt) then in the command prompt (the small black screen with white letters), you type (in your case):

    RD/s '\\?\C:\Users\Public\Music\P.O.D.

RD is as a function of deleting files (not for the files).

You will then be asked if you are sure "(Y/N)" and then of course, you type 'Y' and press enter! " And like that... begone is the folder which you so frustrated! Happy days are back! : )

  • Done F:\Akston\Desktop refers to a location that is not available

I don't even really know how to describe this problem.

This problem started when I got an external hard drive for Christmas. I copied my entire "My documents" folder on the external drive. I ended up having to backup and copy because I accidentally made a shortcut once and accidentally moved the whole thing once. So it's probably what is the impetus for my problems.

    How, how it manifests:

When I turn on my PC, it says that F:\user\desktop is not available. But the drive 'F' is not where everything is, and I have no idea how the F drive would somehow enter my startup or registry or whatever it is. Drive F is only affected by Windows when I connect to a mobile device (blackberry/android phone) via USB charger. I never ran anything my phone is off so I have no idea why the F drive would all of a sudden my office.

The other manifestation of some error (register?), it's also impossible for me to open any microsoft office files. Else - pdf, jpg, works very well, but no file Microsoft does open on my computer.

Every time I click on a file to open it it tells me that Microsoft cannot access ' C:\Users\Akston\...

The files are still there, is not the problem. I can copy the files on a USB key and open it on a different computer, and when I click the icon of a file .ppt file, windows displays a preview of the first slide. Then the files are there and Windows recognizes to some extent, but it will not open files from Microsoft that are on my C drive, or my external hard drive, any USB jump drive I connected or emails.

I can open MS Office programs, but not save anything because it says "an error has occurred the logon dialog box. I guess I can just try to re - install MS Office (which would be a problem because I can not find the disc), but if it's a problem of MS office, it does not explain why my startup is looking for desktop on my drive "F".

Any ideas how I can fix?

I tried a system restore to as soon as possible (while the problem), and that solves nothing. I tried to scan the discs thinking that maybe there was a corrupt file or something. I tried the Defrag. I tried spybot.

I have not tried a registry cleaner because I have read that they can do more harm that good, so I thought I'd post here for an overview.

Sorry for the long post, don't know what else to do. Thought I would try this before that I have just went ahead and bought a new computer because of what is probably a tiny, fixable error.

    Hello

    ·         What is the exact error you get when you try to open Microsoft Office applications?

    ·         Are there external drivers connected to the computer when you start on the desktop?

If so remove all connected readers and then boot to the desktop and check what is happening.

    Method 1:

    Step 1:

Try to start in safe mode and check if you are able to boot to the desktop without errors. To start in safe mode follow the link given below.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Step 2:

If the problem does not occur in safe mode then boot to the desktop in normal mode and check that the third-party program is causing the problem. To configure your computer to clean boot follow the link below.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: When you are finished troubleshooting, follow step 7 article to start on normal startup.

    Method 2:

You can use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow the link below.

  • Could not find music on hard drive returns d: / refers to a location that is not available or does not exist

    Original title: Mystery hard drive

    Hello people,

I am running Vista Business v.6.0

I did a search for any music I had on the hard drive after having transferred most of it long ago at my laptop.

I found 40 GB of music to a folder (d: /) which does not exist anywhere. I clicked on a file and clicked on "position to open the file" but got a very long message saying

J:/King Khan and the shrines / which refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or that you are connected to the internet or you check your network and try again. If he can't always find the information could have been moved to a different location

I can't find a drive J anywhere and want to get rid of everything that might be hiding in it.

    Any advice?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

If no one offers more ideas that you might want to try this.

The search Index may be corrupted. If so, you can rebuild and then check with what you know to be on your hard drive.

The problem started when I tried to uninstall Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. I used some mods that created a backup folder. And now I can not delete the backup folder. I think the problem is that I have included «...» "at the end of the name. I read that. "at the end of the windows files are a big problem.

The problem is off of hands, because I can't open my documents. And I can't download anything without noticing it, the file is missing.
When I try to open my documents, it says "Program E:\Program games\Gta san andreas\Backups\name... made reference to a location unavalible. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. Check that... »

I tried uninstalling various programs that apparently suppress it, but he'll be back on the next startup. I even tried to delete it in command prompt, who got rid of him until the next boot upward.

    1. have you done any change in software on the computer lately?

Check to see if the problem exists in Safe Mode, if the computer works as expected in mode without failure, then we can solve the problem in the clean boot state. There is an application which is set to start when you start the computer and which launches the installer of Windows.

I just checked amazon.com and all the licenses that I see are copies OEM System Builder:

    http://www.Amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-7-8-software/b?ie=UTF8&node=1286119011

This means the boxed retail copies request a bonus, while the OEM System Builder copies remain affordable.

    Full version (retail):

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.

-Does not require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

There is nothing wrong to use it too, especially that all future versions of Windows will be full versions.

If you can get a copy of a retail license, you can do the following:

If the license for Windows 7 Professional, you have access to is a retail version update or complete, you can use the product key and the Express upgrade to Windows 7 Edition Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. First of all, check that the edition of Windows 7, you are upgrading is already enabled (if it isn't, you will encounter complications and that you might start all by performing a clean installation). Click Start, type Anytime Upgrade, click on the option enter a key, enter the key of Windows 7 Professional on demand, click Next, wait while checking the key, accept the license agreement, click on upgrade, wait while the software upgrades, (it may take 10 minutes or more depending on the if updates are required) your computer restarts automatically, after the reboot, Windows 7 will notify you updating the computer, the computer will restart once more automatically and will be completed the upgrade, a window will appear notifying the upgrade was successful and your computer is ready to use, click Close, you should be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional your files, programs and settings retained.

Please note that the Express upgrade does not support OEM, MSDN-Academic, Volume (the student faculty licenses) license. If you are in possession of all these brackets, you will need to save and do a custom clean install. If you want to do it, please backup your Windows 7 Home Premium or according to edition currently installed.
