    Hi Rob

Sorry about the lack of response in these few days, but I had a bad cold.  However, there are some good news to report.  I don't have the chance to try the suggestions you made, but this morning I received an update from my security software Norton 360 and after installing this update and run some scans (including cleaning registry) in order to ensure that all seemed to agree, my network notification icon now works again!

If the problem has been solved somehow, and I may never know the real cause.  I hope I never have to try to find out again!

Many thanks for your help anyway.

  • 'Open DNS' user - experience network Notification 'Additional log information may be required. Click to open your browser.

What is happening to all 5 of my computers, all Windows 7 since I used Windows Update this AM. The interesting thing is that my Wifi network in my house does not require a "additional log in" and the internet was available. So, the "Additional log in" notification, which appears continually, even after opening a web page, is simply nothing more boring.

Disabling Open DNS seems to fix the problem, but I don't want to turn it off. Looking for an answer to this problem, I found a registry change that solved this problem for someone else. Changing the registry Disenabled the "Active sensor", which is the value of 'Enable Active Probe' fell 1-0. I could do that except that I use Open DNS crypt, who encrypts all communications between the computer and the open DNS, a Wi - Fi security feature servers, and since I use these laptops on Wifi networks in places like McDonalds and Starbucks, I think I need notification Active Probe actually connect to their networks.

    Any ideas or solutions?

    Its for this reason

Open regedit and navigate as follows:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

    Double-click on EnableActiveProbing

Change the value to 0. This is another site (what follows is OpenDNS). They are aware of this

In order to solve this problem, please log in to the dashboard and select settings. After that, select your network and choose "Customize" in the left menu. You will be taken to a page that you will allow you to toggle enabled "NX domain redirect. Please disable this option.

Then, clear your DNS resolution cache and the cache of the web browser on each device to ensure that your new configuration of DNS settings take effect immediately. Instructions to clear your cache of DNS resolution can be found here: http://www.opendns.com/support/article/68 and instructions to clear the cache of your web browser can be found here: http://www.opendns.com/support/article/67.

  • "User intervention required" network OfficeJet 6500 E709a on Windows 8 print

I have an OfficeJet 6500 all-in-in-one E709a connected to my router wireless via an ethernet cable. 2 computers (Win XP and Windows 8 64 bit) connected wireless to this network. The Win XP computer can print without problem, but the Win 8 computer print jobs in queue and says "User interaction" required

    A few notes:

    * It seems that Windows already installed drivers for this printer. It is available in the window "Devices and printers", having the status of "user Intervention."

    * I don't want to install the complete software if I can avoid it

    * I checked that the printer is NOT in offline mode / pause

    * I tried stop the spooler service, delete the temporary files, and then restarting the spooler, as suggested, on a MS windows forum

    * Windows 8 is a new computer; It has never worked before

    * I tried to restart the printer, but that did not help. Windows detects when it it turned off and rebooted, but when it is restarted it goes straight to mode "user Intervention."

    * The software HP to select the "good" pilot says that it cannot find the drivers for my printer

    * HP does not seem to offer a download drivers only for my combination printer/Win 8

    Help, please.

    Thank you

Skinny, looks to have a configuration issue with the printer. What we will do is to uninstall the printer completely and reinstall following in my footsteps. This will give use a shift even to work from.

First of all, if you use a USB cable, be sure to remove it (it's important). Do not plug it in again until the software instructs you. Through devices and printers, programs and features and issues Device Manager and make sure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. As indicated, and then restart the computer.

  • Do I need to download the network drivers all Intel 7260, 1601 Dell and Dell 1506 available for my laptop?

I reinstalled my OS and I'm trying to develop the correct order for installing the driver. I went to the bottom of the list that Dell suggested, but am stuck at the network drivers. There are eight for me to download: driver Intel 7260 WiFi Utility Intel 7260 WiDi, Diagnostics of Intel, Dell Wireless 1601 when App Device Manager, driver wireless Dell Wireless 1506, Dell Wireless 1601 WiFI + Bluetooth driver, Intel 7260 Bluetooth App and network Ethernet drivers.

Do I really need all of them? I'm fighting to understand even contained drivers for my system, I actually need. I'm not an IT Pro!

No, you system knows variants in maps wireless depending on the area and the time of purchase...

Provide the ID of the network controllers material and I can identify what card you have, see the instructions here:

  • I have reset my OS to xp. I tried to download all updates, but stuck with 0x8024400a error #. How can I solve this problem?

I have reset my comuter to the original factory setting when it was built in 05.  I did the resettlement program built into the hard drive.  I did not activate internet protection.  I was going to do after the updates.  When I went to look for updates to windows, the first error message is 0 x 80240036.  Got through that one, the other was 0x8024400a.  I tried the solution .bat with no effect.  What is next?   Thank you

Have you loaded Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3 again?   Windows updates will not work until you get loaded SP3, you need to load SP2 first, if it isn't already done.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=28 (SP2)
    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=24 (SP3)

Ignore warnings about these packages for computer scientists, or only for the excessive network installs and others.  These are full Service Packs that can be installed without an internet connection or when no other SPs are installed.

This problem may be due to Norton or other software. You can restart the computer and check. If all goes well, you should be able to boot to the desktop without any problem.
