Dreamweaver FTP security

I'll have to use some public wifi connections for updating a back-end of the sensitive site code. We know although there are has a dozen wifi free network tools out there that can capture packets, passwords and other data over a public network. I am always careful about my sensitive personal information on a public wifi network, but this will be the first time that I used Dreamweaver to update a Web site on a public network. There is even an android app that will capture this info and view packets in HTML format info. Scary...

So I wonder is the info site, username, encrypted password to protect it from prying eyes? What precautions should I take? Should I cough the dough to allow a personal hotspot do this work?

Rick Gerard wrote:

Thanks for the tips. Someone knows if Dreamweaver encrypts data FTP?

Yes, if you use FTPS (NOT SFTP) as FTPS provides encryption and authentication supported over SFTP, which offers only supported encryption...

Good luck.

  • EA6500 FTP security & server problem

I'm fairly knowledgeable about computers, but still learning my way around networking.  There are two ethernet cables to come to my house with optical fiber connections high speed.  There is a router on both of them and I have therefore 2 WI - fi networks.  I have a 2 t HD Seagate attached to the EA6500. Access to records is enabled and I have a name of user and password set up so I can see the drive of all my devices.  It is mapped as a network drive on a window 8.1 machine and a Windows 7 laptop.  I'll try to set up a ftp server on one of them, but when I'm at the EA6500 last week, I discovered that he has built in ftp server.  I turned and tried to open a session.  I tried networks as well as the 4 g network on my phone.  4g just give an error, but the connection request came when I was on one of the networks.  My credentials have been accepted, the ftp screen came, but no drive and no file.  I spent an hour for most useless on the phone with Linksys support, but have learned one thing: when I disabled access to the records, and then the disc with all the files appeared.  However, no newspaper was asked.  Enter "ftp: / / {ipv4 address}" product page ftp in my browser with all the files revealed.  In addition, access to the files on my network was of course now disabled.  I asked the tech by the lack of a connection is required, and she told me that I only knew that the address ip so no one else would be able to see my files.  I almost called her a stupid at this point.  Unfortuneatley she seemed not very security conscious or not even aware of how ridiculous that was.  I have re-enabled access to the folder and the disabled of course ftp again.  A refresh of the page in the browser returned to the blank page of ftp.  Is it possible to use effectively the built in Server ftp securely?

Now if I'm in a remote location, I can connect account Smart Wi - Fi, will disable access to files and turn on ftp temporarily, then access my files and ftp, then backtrack.  It's a work-around that I don't like.  Someone managed using the Linksys FTP safely while maintaining access to local folders?  Also, is there a way to limit the connection to a particular username?  The customer accounts and admin (password w/router) have already been awarded to highly secure passwords, but the one I used for local access, not so much.  If I get this job, which apparently won't be enough, because it doesn't seem to be a way to make the distinction between a local and a remote user in the settings of the router.

Hold on!   AHA!  I think that I thought about it!  The correct answer to your question should have been no. only, I created a user, but I did not know that the 'actions' were added to the user by clicking on the blue word 'actions' next to my username.  So NOW, when I try it in Google Chrome, voila! I can see the files.  I turned it back off again, so I can create a combo/part of the user with a good password.  One problem remains.  I tried adding the actions first by clicking on the admin user.  Now, I don't see a way to edit the admin user to disassociate the part.  I really didn't have admin access.  I was only adding the part as a test, but now it seems that it is there to say.  Please don't tell me I have to reset the router to get rid of it.

What a pity that phone support is not able to explain on the management of stocks.  Just ask me about stocks helped helped focus my attention on the right box.  Thanks, chadster766!  I ' l count this issue resolved and leave the issue with admin for another ad if I can't understand me.

  • Using WinSCP as default CC Dreamweaver Ftp Client?

    I had the strangest challenge.

I do stuff webdevelopment and webdesign. And I use Dreamweaver for many years for many reasons, especially since he WYSIWYG feature which really help me to work with more ease. [Sorry for all those who have repeatedly recommend me to abandon Dreamweaver - but im that he plans], and even though I know and appreciate the tools such as Notepad ++, etc. - I really want to keep for now Wink

There are mainly one boredom: the ftp client.

I do often save + upload my files, but DW blocks everything until the download is completed, or partially, it will even cancel new becomes I ve madde file so that the ftp was uploading,... I can't this is how frustrating.

Since I have worked with other tools, such as Notepad etc. I know that things could be so different, but:

I realized that if I open a php via WinSCP or htm file in DWeaver, (as the default application for the file in my case is DW) THEN and only then WinSCP manages ftp jobs. But it means that I have to have open files always via Winscp which is complicated and time allows (multiple windows, etc etc).

    -If the simple question:

Is it possible to somehow use WinSCP as Client Ftp of Dreamweaver CC?  Or there wrong somehow using it?

I tried to find out, but can't find anything yet.

Thank you very much in advance! Smile PS using the new version of dreamweaver build 7714 2015.0

No, you cannot change the program uses DW for the FTP, but it should not be a reason you can't use another program dedicated FTP along side DW. Many people add Filezilla, Cute FTP or another program FTP dedicated to their workflow because of problems they have, for one reason or another, with FTP of DW.

Personally, I've never had a problem with the FTP of DW which was not fixed by disabling the cache program or preferences, or in a very specific case, buying a new wireless router to replace a defective allowing additions of DW.

  • Help! Site of 'Put' problem Dreamweaver FTP to a remote server (Go Daddy)

I have Dreamweaver CS5.5.  I encounter the following problem with the hopes that you can help me.

I'm putting the site via FTP files to a remote server (Go Daddy).

I already had the entire site.  Now that I had to modify some pages, I can't put the site published to Go Daddy.

While I can connect via FTP with Go Daddy, I click the Put button, it goes through all the files indicating "successful" - but when I check the site on the internet, the modified version of the site does not appear - the original version of the site stays.

I contacted Go Daddy, they examined and confirmed that all of the information for the Site > manage > edit window is correct (i.e. server name, address FTP, username, password, root directory), but when I put the files (except for 1 single file I have through), they do not receive the files on their end and they cannot understand why.  Go Daddy concludes that the problem lies in the performance of Dreamweaver.

I did some of the following:

    Root directory: public_html /.

    Enable Cache

    Passive FTP mode

and I've tried a variety of combinations, but nothing has worked.

There is something essential that I'm missing? Something? that I should check?  Help, please.

Use Filezilla entire websites to the server. You can see exactly what is happening, and if a file or two fail to get - a common occurrence - you can put them after the break.

I only use FTP of the DW to a single file or handles of files that I've just updated (for example, edit the image files, etc.). If I have a site with 12 000 files, I need to have the peace of mind that everything will be properly implemented and Filezilla gives you that.

  • CS6 Dreamweaver - ftp stops on some files or get permission errors

Just installed DW CS6 version 12.0 build 5861 yesterday windows 8.1. The FTP connects & download some files but stands with images. An example is an image called gov_logo.jpg. It's only 27 KB but it stalls with only a part of the image on the server. This isn't the image of the only problem. Timeout is set to 60 seconds and the picture will be download with a different ftp client that my host has verified and tested. I have seen a lot of so-called patches and have tried everything, but have you noticed that this matter is not resolved for many people. Could someone please help.

    Thanks Chris

    Hi guys again.

I solved the issue. I took the computer to the shop & they have reinstalled windows 8.1. He looks & works differently from the first installation, so I would say it was a shit the first time. CS6 Dreamweaver now works including FTP & Recordset and database issues, I had. For anyone else who reads this, because of similar problems, it can take some time to solve. When it is running I have not yet installed the windows updates & will one. I also put a restore point to return to if I have problems. I am considering problems are the fact that some of my old sites were built by extensions in DW8 which are not compatible with the CS6. So I will try & run them both on my PC or I may have to install a virtual machine like virtual box & I'll install windows 7 in there. While I was the issue, I found several people/businesses were telling me that I should come back to windows 7 8.1 is not very stable.

Well, it of my solution that worked for me, hope this helps someone else.

    Cheers Chris

  • See hidden files in Dreamweaver FTP (specifically .htacess)

I need to get into my .htaccess file so I can make a few changes.  Normally, I'd go with filezilla to do this, but for various reasons, that I just can't with this client.  Accordingly, I need to use FTP in Dreamweaver.  You used to be able to enter into the arrangement of 'Classic' workspace, by clicking View and then click "show hidden files" Unfortunately it seems that option / workaround has been disabled in the latest Dreamweaver cc version.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    @ flakes_obran,.

Click on the top-right corner of the files Panel. Since the menu drop-down Panel, go to view and select Show hidden files.

  • 6 Dreamweaver corrupts files when downloading via Dreamweaver ftp tool

When I use Dreamweaver to transfer a file very often something gets corrupted. JavaScript stops working. The page runs locally and javascript work. The file is fine when I download with a different ftp tool (fetch, transmission, etc.).

When I view the source of the file non-working code looks all garbled.

When I download the file with a diftterent ftp tool, all right.

Never seen that before. That is what it is?

In Mac Help, Lion, latest versions.

In your preferences, what is your type of defined line break (look under Format Code)?

  • How to duplicate automatice like Dreamweaver ftp sync?

Currently using Dreamweaver, you can specify a remote FTP connection and Dreamweaver will automatically download the new file on the change. I apologize if this seems obvious to absoluely, but how to replicate that in Builder?

CF Builder currently supports the synchronization of files on remote FTP sites by click right/folder of the project in the Navigator view and select Synchronize-> create a new synchronization connection. Once you create a connection, you can synchronize the project/folder using the same context menu.

However CF Builder synchronizes automatically files from FTP sites.

  • Dreamweaver FTP

I can't see the local files in the left pane when you connect to a remote host. I see the remote files in the right pane, but cannot find a way to show the local files in the left pane. What I am doing wrong?

This means that you have not properly set your site as the "Site." Instead
you have defined as 'FTP and RDS Server', which eliminates the local site
and allows you to edit files directly on the server. So - there is no
    local files.

The solution is to create a NEW site definition - SITE | New > SITE (no FTP
& RDS Server) and enter your FTP information. Then delete it.
    previous site.

Now, you'll see the files the remote and (after you connect first to the)
distance from the site and GET all the files up there).

  • Is there a way to synchronize the dreamweaver ftp connection information, in a way that is accessible on an iPad?

I'm looking for an effective way manage emergency situations when I only have my iPad. I have a lot of customers, so it would be great if I had access to ftp info on all my devices without having to store the news manually every time. Thank you!

There is nothing that synchronizes information with an iPad.

However, there are a lot of Web publishers such as Coda that will store the credentials or media, so just add them once.

  • CS6 Dreamweaver FTP

One of my sites does not connect in Dreamweaver CS6. It works fine in Dreamweaver CM³.

All my other sites connect well CS6 and CC.

If something interferes with the connections on this site (but only in CS6!).

I've recreated the site and connections, does not.

There must be a file somewhere in the site that causes this problem.

Any suggestions as to what files I find or replace?

I'm guessing that obscure tweaks are neglected.

    1. in the working version of DW, go to Site > Manage Sites

    2. click on the site and choose export. This will create a file in your site settings .ste

    3. in the DW does not work, click Site > Manage Sites > Import to import the .ste

    4. check that the local directory is correct and that your files window is filled

    5. test the connection

Who should take care of it. If so, you can delete the older site definition and use that newly imported.
