Drive C content is displayed on the desktop

I am running Windows 7 Professional x 64. Today, I tried to open a folder on my desktop and received an error message saying that windows could not open it. The office then refreshed, and now it shows my contents of drive C instead of what should be on my desk. Ive checked my C:/Users / * user * / the desktop folder and all the files are still there, but just not appearing on my real desk!

* edit *.
I tried to restore the system to correct the problem, but it reoccured a short time after doing the restore. I just reinstalled windows in the end

Go to: menu-> run-> regedit start

The path to your Windows desktop is located in the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell dossiers\

The value name is "Desktop." The default value is:
%UserProfile%\desktop

as if you encounter this problem, it will read:

I have Windows 7 on a HP laptop.  On a file that I wanted to delete, I clicked and selected 'delete '.  You could see the process run, and no error message appears.  Unfortunately, the icon disappeared.  When I try right click and delete it again, a message appears saying that it is not found, that it is no longer on the desktop check the location and try again.

I tried the following without a bit of luck:

    1. right click, delete
    2. highlight delete key
    3. highlight, control/delete
4 drag / drop to trash - it does nothing at all... not even the normal error message.
    5. make a right click, refresh
    6. right click, sort
    7. try to rename the folder, error message appeared... once again.

Try everything what I have always said that the file is not found because it is no longer in this area.  Is there a shell office that I can remove and when I restart my computer it will automatically rebuild that shell, remove the offending files/folders?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I need to get this file on my desktop!  I have a total of THREE folders of files that will not delete.  There are no files in the files.  There is no HIDDEN in the files files.  It is as if the Windows desktop has a problem and will not erase these three folders icons.

Once again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Look into this,

I guess that would explain why the picture is so small to fit on an e-mail, you got a larger file.

  • the shortcut for the external drive icons do not appear on the desktop

Running Windows 7 Home Premium.  None of the shortcut icons of the program (on my external hard drive) appear on the desktop.  Default icons took their place and launch the correct programs when you click it.  I tried to change individual icons in the correct program ones, but that they would not.  They all used to be there!

I tried to reboot several times but that has not changed anything.

The only program added or deleated recently was free archiver B1.  I uninstalled immediately after installing and do not actually use it.

How to bring back the icons.

    Bill

    Hello Bill,

Two possibilities come to mind. The first is that the program of the archiver to change icons, in which case you will need to reinstall the program, understand how the icons have been changed, reverse the process and then uninstall the program again. Phew. Its a lot of work, but I got a program do just this thing very to my car icons and it's the process that I had to follow to cancel his "practical work"!

The other possibility is that his associates to make it an external drive, which is still not very good with Windows. Lets start with this possibility first. First of all, try this Fix It from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Windows_USB_diagnostics . Not fixed? Try this second difficulty: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/ . Still not fixed? Is the drive recognized by Windows - right disk size / type format?

If the disc itself is not recognized by Windows, try this trick. Download and install the freeware Aomei Partition Assistant application, download it from here http://download.cnet.com/AOMEI-Partition-Assistant-Standard-Edition/3000-18512_4-75118871.html?tag=mncol;1 - use the link Direct download only. Then once its installed, select the external hard drive, then select Properties. That's it, just by selecting the drive and choosing properties are sufficient to get Windows to recognize the drive.

Now that the drive is recognized by Windows, has the problem of the icon "disappeared"? If the answer is still no, then I think you need to look at the program archive as a real possibility. The only way to know of course is to install the program again and look for a setting (try Configuration) where the program changes the icons of the programs.

Post your results here and let me know how you fare.

    Kind regards

  • My hard drive will not be displayed in the Finder, please help!

I tried several options to try to solve my problem, but it is not good. I have an external hard drive Seagate 2 to. I used it for about 6 months, but one day it just does not appear in the Finder more. I checked in disk utility and it shows up there, but it is labeled as "Uninitialized 2 TB Windows NT specifien". It seems strange, that it now says Windows when I used it fine on my Mac in the past. It won't let me hit mount either. Please help me.

    Thank you.

Did you have the Seagate utilities or any installed third-party NTFS software? The drive has never been formatted to support OS X?

  • New Firefox Sync does not work correctly. Bookmark cannot be deleted. Tabs are not displayed on the desktop.

I have two problems with the synchronization again. The first problem is that none of my bookmarks or tabs of my office are appearing on my Android phone or work phone reverse on the desktop.
The second problem is I'm trying to synchronize my favorites of the beta version of Android FF for the non - Beta Android FF that worked well until I corrected to remove several bookmarks I have anymore. I want to remove them, but I can remove them only on the beta version and then when I go to the regular version none of the changes have been synchronized. If I try to remove them from the normal version nothing happens at all.

One thing to check is the android device and new update of office are on the same synchronization. To check on Android is this (not recommended) Firefox Sync account

The other thing to check is if the tabs and bookmarks synchronization options are on for both devices in the page manage account.

    Is this the case?

  • Build information displayed on the desktop.

I don't know what I could do, if anything, to make the info Windows XP Build display on my desk.

I use this PC for years, and it was never there before.

    It can be removed?

Do you mean the text as:
    Windows XP Professional
    Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr. [.....]
Which appears at the bottom right of the screen?

The only way I know to do this turn on and off using "TweakUI" of Microsoft.  If you have it on your computer, start TweakUI (start-> programs-> Powertoys-> Tweak UI), click the 'General' entry in the left column, then scroll to the bottom of the window to the right and uncheck the "Show Windows Version on desktop".

If you do not have TweakUI, you can get it from:

  • Equium L350D - optical drive not booting or display in the BIOS

I brought an Equium L350D around last August. It came with Windows Vista, which I wasn't completely satisfied, but it had become the standard at this time.
After several problems with Vista and preferring just generally XP, I decided it was time to downshift.

So I jumped in my drive XP, Set BIOS to boot from the CD, reboot. Vista.
So I jumped to the BIOS, and he says he is not an optical drive detected. But when I boot in Vista and pop a disc in the drive, it works fine.
I also tried Ubuntu Live CD, but it just started to new Vista.

Anyone know what I can do to work around this problem?

If you try to install Win XP without SATA drivers then the SATA in the BIOS mode must be on compatible.

By the way; If you can still boot the Vista operating system on the HARD drive, then check if you are using the latest version of the BIOS!

    Questions in order...

The player support must come from the manufacturer of the drive. It appears in disk management at all?

You would be partition. Also, using Disk Manager.

You would not actually move the program to the external drive - do you hear your music?

  • No display on the desktop Dell Studio D540

I turned on my D540 and no video. I checked the power supply and it has a green light. The button before you can is not green and yellow. The hard disk snaps into rotation is turned on. Mouse and USB keyboard don't seem to get power (no lights not lit).

I can't go in the BIOS or Windows Start menu as the screen does not work. I have an add-in in the video card, so I removed and plugged the monitor VGA on the motherboard. No joy. The monitor continues to say that there is no video signal from the computer in all options. Double checked the monitor and it works on another computer.

    Any suggestions? TIA.

An amber power light, and solid with no "beeps" may indicate a power supply or motherboard problem.

Unless you have a guarantee that Dell is unfortunately not going to help, you can use expired Dell warranty service, but Dell will charge a fee for this:

    http://www.Dell.com/learn/us/en/19/services/out-of-warranty

Try the following, if you are comfortable working around computers:

Note: the only 100% POWER supply test method, is to install a power known to work.

Unplug the power cord, hold the power button in for about 15-20 seconds, open the case, disconnect the power connector 24-pin motherboard and jumping the Green wire to one of the black wires, plug in the power cord and the power of the system, if food and case fans and disk hard drive performance then the power supply should be good.

Note: Do not remove the wires from the plug, use a small piece of wire or a paper clip as a rider.

Excerpt from power supply, again, unplug the power cord, hold the power button again for 15/20 seconds to discharge residual power, reconnect the connector 24 pin to the motherboard.

Remove all the computer PCI cards, remove the video card [as appropriate], disconnect all devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard and unplug cable power & data of all readers.

Reconnect the power cord and power the system on, see if you get a different indication of the LED on the power button / stop, or 'beeps '.

No difference, remove the system memory and try again.

Still shows no signs of life while looking at a motherboard replacement & maybe a processor.

Note: The good news is, processors lack rarely, being the only method I know to check a processor, install a compatible work PC, or use a known job processing.

    Bev.
