Drive performance slow comments

Hi guys,.

I'm new to communities-http://communities.vmware.com/images/emoticons/confused.gif

On my server, the disk performance is terribly slow. I'm copying the data, varying in size of the files, but accumulating 94 GB, over the network to a virtual machine that is running windows server 2008 32-bit. He was held for more than 30 minutes now and successfully copied less than 3 GB of data (running less than 2 MB/s). The virtual machine is also irrespsonsive sssoooo coming, he does not meet the movement of the mouse in the console. What can I do as the configuration of the virtual machine is configured to use virtual 2 virtual processors and 4 GB of RAM? I converted to the server intel VM Server 2.0 running on Windows Server 2008 to ESXi 3.5 U4, build 153875, on the recommendation of my provider like it crew I have mind altering - performance system appears to be much slower than before, so slow that I want to convert to the previous configuration.

My Server features: Server Board S5000XVN Intel/XSL, MegaRAID 160 SATA RAID controller, six SATA 250 GB in RAID 5 disks at 3 Gbps, two intel E5440 CPU clocked at 2.83 G / Hz with nice 16 GB FB - DIMM.

Any ideas?

PS: this was originally posted elsewhere - had no response. The above configuration took 10 hours to copy the data - it took less than 3 to move the original server (windows server 2008 with VMServer 2.0) to an external hard drive.

It is quite possible that ESXi is disabling the same rewrite if you configured the BIOS accordingly.  IMO the volume would certainly be damaged when you stop the server if it is enabled (for example, I disconnected the battery from a PERC 5i after a soft stop and volume was damaged during restart).

In addition, the controller you have gets in any case good reviews.

I would personally try the swap for something else with a BBWC; It is essential for RAID-5 with ESXi.

    Hi azza675,

ExportPDF converts PDF files to Word and Excel formats (and many others). What you describe, sounds like you are trying to convert a file * to * PDF. Have you ever started a trial of Acrobat, maybe? (So that you can create PDFs with Acrobat, ExportPDF don't allow you to convert files to PDF.)

What happens when you connect directly to ExportPDF to https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf?

  • ICloud drive is slow for anyone else?

I had this problem in the last days. It all started during the July 4th weekend. I tried to add a 34 KB PDF file reader iCloud on my end 2007 27 "iMac running the most recent version of Yosemite. When I did, he began the process of synchronizing the file to iCloud (with the symbol of the cloud after the name of the file), but he never knew. All I saw was a progress bar gray who moved for hours. So, I out of the iCloud folder and tried to download it directly through iCloud.com. This time, I saw the file appear on my Finder but with the brand "always download" (a cloud with an arrow pointing down) and once more a bar of growth that does not seem to move for hours.

Long story short, after trying all the usual steps to solve the problems with iCloud, (turn on iCloud drive in the preferences system/turn off; exiting/entering my account iCloud; as well as some yet more "BOLD" steps such as the abolition of the CloudDocs folder in my library system, quit the 'cloudd' and 'bird' processes using activity monitor) (, then rebooting my iMac), I have now several files I had stored in iCloud drive being perpetually stuck "Download". Curiously, all these files are the app third party in their library respective App except for a RTF file created using TextEdit. The files that I saved in TextEdit on iCloud synced within a reasonable (although slow to KB of size of plain text files).

Moreover, I also reset my modem wifi and cable, but without any change in the result.

My Console is showing many connection errors, delays in waiting, and other stuff that I don't understand not everything revolving around iCloud associated services or processes. So, I think that something is happening with iCloud himself. I read a few threads on other sites that there is a possibility that this could be a problem with sandboxing, but I have no confidence the fix that was suggested, so I hope that someone here will have some clues or tips. If it's a matter of Sandboxing, this could explain why the files are not downloaded/uploaded are third-party applications.

Yes, a couple other posts commented on files do not download or upload to iCloud by car since nearly 30 June - 4 July.

  • Bug report: Power Manager causes performance slowed after resume from hibernation

I use Windows 7 and several versions of the power manager, including the last 6.63.1 of a 220 X.

If I Hibernate the computer, when I'm back, everything is very slow. For example, it takes several seconds for a page to display after clicking a tab in Chrome, but it's just an example, almost everything is unresponsive. This happens for about 5-10 min, but eventually everything will work normally. It seems to be related to the use of high page files. More I wait to take over after the hibernation, the biggest problem seems to be taking.

The deactivation of the service to be able to eat has not corrected the problem, but after uninstalling the power manager, the problem will disappear completely.

I've seen several reports of that of others. This person, it connects to Power Manager, but does not give many details.

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-performance/unresponsive-after-resume-fro...

This person is also connected Power Manager, but gives a description of how he did, which can be useful for you.

    http://asqueella.blogspot.com/2012/07/Windows-7-resuming-from-hibernation-is.html

I have reinstalled Power Manager, because the computer is unusable after hibernation. I love the program, however, so it would be nice if you can solve this problem.

    Best wishes

    Justin

    Justin_KM,

I have discussed this with the Power Manager team and they think that this problem can occur because of a feature called Fast Hibernation summary power manager.  The idea is that Power Manager will page out most application on the drive memory before hibernation.  Then the hibernation file will be as small as possible, resulting in a faster recovery time.  But I guess it can cause this side effect, you found if several applications are page in a lot of memory, disk, after sleep.  Then you would end up with the use of the disc heavy and slow application performance, until finally the memory is restored from pagefile.

Anyway, if you want to retry Power Manager, please install the latest version and then apply this reg file to disable the feature that we believe that your problem is initially:

    https://DL.dropboxusercontent.com/u/62276273/DisableFastHibernationResume.reg

Restart after applying the reg file.  This assumes that you are running 64-bit Windows.  If you are running 32-bit Windows, let me know and I'll give you a different reg file.

  • Why Linked Clone drive so slow?

I hope someone has the answer or advice to get better performance with VMware View Linked Clone VM. Just trying to understand why the disk performance is so slow with linked if Clone disk compare with normal disk. Just compare the tests of two simple facts with Iometer with the same configuration (4K, writing 80%, 100% random). The first test is inside the linked Clone (C:\) disk and the second is by normal drive added to the same VM on the same data store.

    RESULTS by C:\ (Linked clone)

    ARE OPS / s: 376

    Flow: 1, 6 Mbps

    Latency: 25 ms

    CPU: 62%

RESULTS with D:\ (normal disk added to the same data store - Thin Provisioning)

    ARE OPS / s: 3369

    Flow: 13, 8MBps

    Latency: 3, 0ms

    CPU: 13.5%

The latency is almost 10 times longer and PAHO are / s is almost 10 times less with linked Clone disk. I have attached the Iometer results here combine with ESXTOP results. The ESXTOP shows the same poor results, but strangely the VM do a lot of readings with the linked Clone test. The CBRC is enabled on this pool but I don't think it could have an effect since the disk Iometer is on the 'delta' so not in the drive to digest.

I am sure that the problem is not with the hardware, but just in case, here the configuration:

    ESXi 5.5 (Dell Poweredge r.620)

    EqualLogic PS6100XV

    4 X iSCSI 1Gbs railways

    See Horizon 5.3.1

    vCenter 5.5

    Base image Windows 7 x 64, 2 vcpu

    Solved!

Finally, there is the problem of the image of the mother. The version of the hardware was v8. After the upgrade to version 10 of material and to recompose the pool, the problem disappeared.

Since the 5.2 view, there is a new type of disk to disk clone bound: "SE Sparse (bulk) disc. Is it supposed to be better for the efficiency of storage, especially for the reclamation of storage, but there is a better treatment of the IO, written with alignment issues. It's the type of disk by default for Linked clone, BUT only when the image of the mother is on version 9 or higher of the material...

The results are now OK with the same test VDI. Now, the metric VMWAIT % is normal:

We can see the type of different disc for disc of delta between the version 8 material (first) and 10 (second):

  • Performance slows when I run on battery only

I have a ThinkPad t61.  Until a few weeks ago, he was very well running Vista.  I installed SP1 and now when I have not plugged computer, performance is bad.  Audio skips when I play music.  Video playback is choppy.  Other applications are lethargic.  When I plug everything accelerating immediately.  I played with the Power Options settings, but nothing seems to work.  Any help is appreciated!

    EMP

    Hello EMP25,

You are using a wireless connection on the battery?  In addition, you are streaming media through the internet or is it saved locally on the hard drive?

If you are on a wireless connection, check if your wireless network card has a built in save option.

    • Click on start.

Right-click on computer and choose Properties.

    • Select Device Manager on the left side of the screen.
    • Double-click network adapters.
    • Right click on your wireless network adapter and select Properties.
    • Click the Advanced tab.

See if there is a list for the power saving Mode or something similar.  If it is, turn it off.

Go ahead and reboot the system and test the video and the audio again while on battery.

  • 11 - Win7 Guest Host Win8.1 - SLOW comments PRE-LAUNCH workstation

    Hello

I'm new to vmware and used to work with VirtualBox.Guest on VirtualBox boot immediately when started.

My host is running on a core AMD FX-8350 8 4.2 Ghz with 32 GB of ram and VDI are stored on a Samsung 850 PRO SSD.

Whenever I start a guest with Win7, I get a black screen for couples of minutes THEN prompt boots at a normal pace.

No idea what vmware did to 'prepare' the boot?

(I read that vmware renaming "* debug*.exe" makes it faster.) Which I did and did not notice that many improvements)

But if the guess is paused, then restarted - it's quick to get back running as expected.

    Thank you

  • vmxnet3 driver performance

I'm looking to increase performance on our environment.

We have 46 guests running a cluster consisting of 5 x version 5.1 esx host, DR.

I plan the update to the hardware versions 7 to 9 of the guests for our database servers and know that this includes support for vmxnet3 driver with 10GB network connections.

My question is, if the underlying hardware switch has only 1 GB of the physical switch ports. If the guests are on the same host they will communicate within the hypervisor at speeds of 10 GB or that it will always be limited to 1 GB.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Karl

I plan the update to the hardware versions 7 to 9 of the guests for our database servers and know that this includes support for vmxnet3 driver with 10GB network connections.

vmxnet3 is already supported since VM hardware version 7.

My question is, if the underlying hardware switch has only 1 GB of the physical switch ports. If the guests are on the same host they will communicate within the hypervisor at speeds of 10 GB or that it will always be limited to 1 GB.

Invited on the same host and vSwitch and port group are able to exceed any vNIC well beyond 1 Gbit/s you use. I know, we could think that for example the e1000, which has a link from 1 Gbps to the guest, is limited to 1 GB/s maximum. or vmxnet3 is limited to a maximum of 10 Gbps. But this isn't the case. They can easily exceed their "speed of the virtual link. Test it with a tool of network throughput as iperf a see for yourself.

This is because only the true physically imposed restrictions do not apply in a virtualized environment between two virtual machines on the same host/port signalling group. Operating systems don't artificially restrict traffic to match agreed on the speed of the line, unless it is physically required.

To give an example, I am able to reach 25 + Gbps between 2 Linux VM with vmxnet3 on the same host/network with iperf.

The main advantage of the vmxnet3 vNIC is that it provides features of unloading and paravirtualization, which reduces the CPU load imposed by their high throughput. I'm under it years since 4.x on Windows and most Linux virtual machines as our standard vNIC.

  • When RAW images are needed (if it is stored on the hard drive more slow)?

I just bought an SSD that will roughly triple my reading speed, but since it's only 160 GB I'cant afford the luxury to keep all my data on it.

I know there are many threads here about the best hard drive configurations, but just how would keeping that data (files 12 megapixel CR2) RAW affect my LR experience (once 1:1 previews have been returned and stored on the ssd)?

For example, refinement of development would be insensitive?

    Robert Karlsson

I'd do it but the LRcat previews and hides on the disc and the actual image on a standard disk performance files. Treatment you just write on the disc were the images are found when you save the changes to the files xmp either external or internall and only this disk reads when generating previews, so the actual performance increase will come from the LRcat and previews being on the disc fast and if space is at a premium (as it will be of course with only 160 GB to play with.

If you were really organized could import the images particual group, work on the SSD and when you are done move elsewhere... but the time required to do this can defeat the purpose. Try a few game different ups and let us know how it goes as I can consider buying a small SSD if it does not give improvements.

    Any recommendations?

The G-Tech 7200 RPM 4 Gig usb3 seems good quality but want to see if anyone has any better ideas?

You cannot change the drive HARD in-house on your own. You must order your new computer with the disc drive 7200 RPM for a top speed of a rotating disc. Otherwise, get a SSD instead or go for a drive of Fusion using the combination of 7200 rpm 1 TB drive HARD w/256 GB SSD or w/256 of HARD 7200 rpm 3 TB GB or 512 GB SSD drive.

If you use external drives, then the best choice would be to use a Thunderbolt case. USB 3.0 isn't quite as quick as lightning, but lightning are much more expensive. Hard to give useful advice, not knowing what kind of audio needs you have.
