Dudas change a vSphere 4.1

Buenas tardes, voy a mi infrastructure fornuis a Vsphere 4.1 y me surgen back dudas.

O ESX ESXi: por lo that he read el futuro are ESXi is what 4.2 parece going has ser solo ESXi. Yo the service console practicamente no the used por lo no veo problema en poner ESXi TR in el futuro any're lo going to a meet.

-Con following the pregunta anterior is posible fornuis ESX 3.5 an ESXi 4.1? If fuera posible hacer con can ¿mediante releases upgrade to host? in one of the tests he could fornuis entorno an ESX 4.1 desde ESX 3.5 pero al the iso ESXi 4 import y 4.1 don't me already porque da checksum of error. He verificado el checksum y descargado several times the ISO pero sigo igual por lo what creo no posible fornuis are UN ESX an ESXi.

MUCHAS gracias.

Hola,

Es una muy buena decision pasar ahora an ESXi, that además of ser el unico VMware Hypervisor has leave of the next version, offers important mejoras a level of security.

Respecto has the Migración, you don't migrar puedes ESX an ESXi, para eso tienes as hacer una instalacion limpia, por lo demas which are bastante rapida y con annoyingly ESXi 4.1.

Migrar los Luego hosts an ESXi 4.1, remember las migrar VMware Tools y el material virtual (from version 4 to 7), in ese orden.  No antes migrar las tools y el material virtual no olvides VMs o hacer tus respaldar a Snapshot of each of ellas, tener as volver ago caso.

Finalmente, remember that TR usas Virtual Center 2.5 para administrar tus host ESX, este debes migrarlo a vCenter Server 4.1 ANTES of tus migrar hosts a ultima version.

Suerte y any duda amendments cuentas

Best wishes / Saludos

  • With vSphere health Analyzer 6 fails - an error occurred while gathering

If something has changed with vSphere 6 that breaks the health Analyzer?  I use the last 5.0.4.1.  After starting a new project and adding the appropriate in vCenter Server Discovery credentials, he asks for resources to scan.  I have all the boxes and
Click Next.  He thinks about it for a moment, then returns - an error has occurred at the time of collection.   Of course, this works perfectly under vSphere 5.x.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Steve

Officially HA5.0.4.x or earlier is not supported with vSphere 6.0. Workaround: Do not enter the information from the SSO server when connecting.

What will be missing by running HAV without SSO information?

If VSAN in your vCenter then you will miss the following information:
Data table for a best practice VSAN-014, table data and the analysis of best practices VSAN-004, 007 VSAN and VSAN-009
If you have vFRC in your vCenter then data table will be missing for VM - 028.
As a solution it is manually by using the Web Client vSphere.

We will address these issues in the 5.0.5 release.

  • Connect two VSphere ESXi 5.0 with crossover cable

Hi all! A newbie in the ESXi 5.0

I configured both servers of VSphere ESXi 5.0 with two network adapters on each server, the first NETWORK card acts as a virtual Internet switch, and the other NETWORK adapter serves only the link of communication (Heartbeat) between two VSphere Esxi 5.0 using crossover cable.

My question is, how can I create such change in VSphere in a problem of communication between these 2 servers with a crossover cable? I would like to connect my (CentOS 6) VMs on each server via this network adapter with cable modem Simulator for the purposes of the communication of pulsation. I know how to create a normal vSwitch who can communicate with the Internet, but I have no idea how to create a switch for the NICs connected with a crossover cable.

Please drop me a line if you know how.

P.S. The idea to use the crossover cable rather than use the simple ethernet cable is the cable eliminates the overhead and to avoid the lack of packages due to the processing time of the switch.

I know not how to create one with ordinary vSwitch to establish a connection with the Internet, but not this vSwitch with crossover cable.

There is no difference. Build a vSwitch as your normally would, including the NETWORK card that is connected via a crossover as your uplink cable.

With the keys that you will find in there, it is relatively easy to find other properties of the lun, devices, roads...

As far as I know, the name of Runtime, you see in the vSphere client is not available in the format displayed in each of the objects.

But it's pretty easy to dial in a script.

In the following example script I list ID (or canonical name) and the name of Runtime for all 'disc' lun.

                   $hba = $adapter.Device
                   $channel = $PSTpath.ChannelNumber
                   $target = $PSTpath.TargetNumber
                   $lun = $PSTpath.LunNumber
                   $RuntimeName = $hba + ":C" + $channel + ":T" + $target + ":L" + $lun
                   Write-Host $CanonicalName $RuntimeName
              }

    It produces something like this

  • 6.2 NSX to vCenter 6.0 u1 recording

    Hello

I was playing with NSX 6.2 in my lab and noticed a strange behavior when you try to save my NSX to vCenter Server 6.0 6.2 Manager u1 with external CFP.

Usually, I try to connect all the services with their respective accounts. So I used rather than use [email protected] to register for vCenter and PSC, precree user [email protected] who was part of the administrator group and therefore had full access to the system.

So, the NSX in vCenter connection has been a success, but as I logged in vSphere Web Client like [email protected], I was unable to see the NSX Manager newly registered under the section network & Web Client Security. Workaround for this situation was:

    1. Re-register NSX Manager vCenter with [email protected] account
    2. Connect to the Web Client with [email protected] account, proceed to the section networking and security and make sure that the NSX Manager is visible
    3. Re-save Manager of NSX to vCenter with [email protected] account

So my questions (or invitations to discussion) are:

    1. Someone at - it light of the behavior like this? What is the cause of this problem?
    2. Which user whose rights you use to record NSX to vCenter? Installation guide explains recommended is to use [email protected], but I just don't feel like it. What happens if someone changes [email protected] password, for example?

Hi, just to update the audit of official documents (6.2 NSX VMware vSphere Documentation Center), after the registration of the NSX, you access with the same user, which is used in the registration process.

    Doc:

    --------------

Mandatory if vCenter Web Client is already open, disconnect from vCenter and connect again the same role administrator used to record the NSX Manager with vCenter. If you do not, vCenter Web Client will not display the icon of network & security under the Home tab click the icon network & security and confirm that you can see the newly deployed NSX Manager.

  • VMRC permissions Voodoo - limitation of the ad group and folder VM-based Console access

We are allowing access to their virtual machine using VMRC console administrators. Our Unix administrators get access to their virtual machines and the same Windows administrators, but they should not be able to access each of the other consoles.

We have implemented a 'VMRC Console' role and allowed only 'Interaction of virtual Interaction/Console machine' for this role. When we apply this role to the user group AD for Unix (for example) administrators on the ESXi host objects, they are not able to connect unless we put the option spread. When we do this, they now have access to all THE consoles, not just them.  As soon as uncheck us spread it, they can see their VM once again, but cannot access the console.

What is the secret sauce here to limit them to their own consoles? I can see why this is happening, but I was hoping that the VM folder permissions would have limited their access. Apparently the host permissions override the VM folder permissions (and this is not surprising, really).

There is currently no provision for limiting access to a single console you want. Work is ongoing at this address in a future version with changes in vSphere, ESXi/etc. and VMRC.

  • Long Distance vMotion

    Hi guys,.

Please help me to gain some knowledge here, because I'm really very confusing. I understand (or understand) vMotion at the same level physics site, i.e. all hosts to connect to the same VLAN for vMotion and all guests can see the same LUN storage... you can vMotion should be child's play...

But I really struggle with the concept of long Distance vMotion... that is another physical site where the same VLAN may not exist and indeed the same storage LUN cannot exist... can someone please (please) explain how this concept would work or how such an activity of vMotion can be implemented? vMotion for me means being able to move a virtual machine from one host to another without any downtime of the virtual machine, that is why I am struggling to understand the concept of a vMotion of long Distance with different networks and storage on different site.

    Confused Dryv

so effectively you're saying we need meet the pre-reqs that apply to the creation of a vMSC inorder to get long distance vMotion to work?

Yes, all requirements fundamental clusters as for vMSC applies here as well. It's the same cluster stretched with a more 'cool' name implies support for distances longer than a metropolitan area.

-What is vmotion without shared storage? This implies that you need not shared storage for vMotion activities? is it still possible? I hear this a lot... the term sharing nothing vmotion I hear people throw a lot!

vSphere 5.1 presents the vMotion (vMotion "reinforced") turf, which is basically storage vMotion and vMotion of calculation at the same time on the network. You have no need of storage shared between source and destination host but you still need to layer 2 for VM networks and vmkernel connectivity. Of course, it will take much more time than a regular vMotion with shared storage because you must copy the entire VM disks. See here for more information:

    http://wahlnetwork.com/2012/11/21/leveraging-VMwares-enhanced-shared-nothing-VMotion/

    so, if I told you:

"yes we can just virtual computers vmotion from one site to the other.

and the underlying environment has been configured as follows:

    -Unique VCenter for all sites

-Clusters by site (for vMotion/DRS/HA in a cluster only)

    -No VLAN stretched between sites

-Routing in place across all sites

-No SAN or SAN replication that extends between sites

What would you say to me?

Is there a way (or even remotely possible) "we can just virtual computers vMotion from one site to the other?

In this scenario you can technically , through the above mentioned improved turf vMotion. But without VLAN stretched your VM will be accessible from the other site, unless do you a few magic fantasy to the physical network layer or decide to re - IP manually the machine virtual or the network as NSX virtualization.

However, any type of vMotion between hosts is only officially supported if vMotion vmkernel interfaces are on the same domain of dissemination of layer 2. Apparently, you can get an approval of support for VMware kludgy as this http://cumulusnetworks.com/blog/routed-vmotion-why/.

This will change with vSphere 6 that officially supports vMotion traffic routing however.

Also note that in this scenario there is y no HA or DRS between sites since your clusters are divided. But the generally longer the general idea that underlies the vMSC or his brother of distance is to have a single stretched cluster.

I recommend you read some of the messages of Ivan I've linked my post before he made some good shots of face on the whole subject from a perspective of networkers.

  • How do to activate 'VAPP Options' on an existing virtual machine, and then add the properties that will be passed down through the OVF - ENV. XML

I'm trying to understand vSphere PowerCLI how to activate the "Options of VAPP" on an exsiting VM (in this case a model freshly cloned) then add properties and select cdrom of the FVO data access such as when the virtual machine is running the FVO - env.xml contains the properties in the CD-ROM drive.

If I use the vSphere client and open the virtual machine settings and click on the tab 'Options' and then select "Options of VAPP" and change the setting to "Enabled" and then select 'VAPP-> Advanced Options' and click on the button 'Properties' on the right, I can add the properties and then I can change them vsphere PowerCLI, but given that these actions are not retained if I clone the virtual machine I need a way to put these in place of vSphere PowerCLI without using the vSphere client to do.

Thanks in advance for the help!

You can use the vSphere API to activate the 'Options of VAPP"on an existing virtual machine, and set properties. For example:

    $spec = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec

    $spec.vAppConfig = new-Object VMware.Vim.VmConfigSpec

    $spec.vAppConfig.property = new-Object VMware.Vim.VAppPropertySpec [] (1)

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0] = new-Object VMware.Vim.VAppPropertySpec

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0] .operation = 'Add '.

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0] = new-Object VMware.Vim.VAppPropertyInfo .info

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.key = 0

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.classId = "Property1ClassID".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.instanceId = "Property1InstanceID".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.id = "Property_1.

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.category = "Property1Category".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.label = "property 1.

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.type = "string".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.userConfigurable = $true

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.defaultValue = "Property1DefaultValue".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.value = «»

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.description = "Property1Description".

Hello all, I have used vmware for a year, but just the basics, so I don't really know how 'fix' it... here go us...

I created a new VM with Windows 2012 initially with only 120 GB HARD drive and 4 GB of RAM to start my own laptop and then to the ESXi Server 5.2 we have, everything went very well same in ESXi server, but finally when I had to increase the size of this VM to 800 GB , but nothing happened just says 800 GB of space, but that's not true, so the question is: who knows how to solve this problem? Thanks for any idea or something.

For more details, this virtual machine is version 9 with 8 GB of RAM it supposed to be with 800 GB, the server is 5.2 ESXi and as you can see from the following pictures I can't expand the volume of disk management. The option 'Change settings' vsphere, we have 800 GB too.

  • A question about the virtual processors in the prompt

    Dear Sir

I have a general question about the number of virtual processors in the guest system.

    I use VMware ESXi 4.0.

Say if my physical host has only 2 cups carrots (with or without HT should be the same), then is - it true that I can only attribute 2 virtual processors per virtual machine?

Is it possible to give 4, 8 virtual processors in virtual machines?

In my drop down menu I can NOT choose more than 2 virtual processors per virtual machine, I want to just make sure that it is not the problem of license.

    Thank you very much.

    Nanfang

    Hi Nanfang,

    linanfang wrote:

So the general rule is the number of vcpus don't CAN NEVER exceed the number of physical processors. Is this correct?

Replace "physical cpu" by "physical cores" and you are right, because a vCPU is mapped to a kernel. For example, you can assign 4 vCPU with a Quad-Core processor.

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. If you would be able to map 2 vCPU to the base, the vCPUs had to wait for them all the time because the physical kernel can simply perform an action at a time, why you would decrease the performance of your virtual machine by setting 2 vCPUs.

It is not changed in vSphere 5.
