Duplex mode or physical switch

VMware dear Experts,

My vmnic can support the connection of 1 GB, this is the snapshot of the same thing.

vmnics.JPG

but when I see vmnic0 in networking vswitch page it shows 100 complete, here is the snap of the same thing.

Duplex.JPG

but when I try to reconfigure the 100 to 1000 Full duplex, the connection of vmnic is broken / disconnected, please help me with the same.

Concerning

MrVMware

If this does not work in full mode 100 should not be expected to work in 1000 complete without changes in the configuration of the physical switch.

I recommend you to make sure that the physical switch is set to AUTO and set the same on the ESXi vmnic. There is very little reason these days of hard to set the duplex mode.

  • Get rid of the physical switch between 2 ESXi - Layer2 virtual servers between boxes

    Hello

    It's maybe a stupid question, but I can't quite understand the answer so I might as well ask.  I have two physical hosts of ESXi in my lab and for various reasons wish to eliminate the physical switch between them, but while retaining full vSphere functionality (HA, vMotion, DRS etc.).  Is there a switch virtual/Repeater product can I buy/use (deployed on the two ESXi hosts in a HA configuration) who can give me this feature?  I would then use Teddy ports on each ESXi host to talk to each other and additional natachasery as switchports to the outside world.  i.e. can I do this with a kind of multi-Vyatta router configuration?  NSX?  Must also support multicast.

    Thanks for your help!

    If you want to get rid of the physical switch, simply do not use it. ETH-cable to directly connect the natachasery of these two hosts of ESXi. If your NICs have the ability to auto-mdi (x), there is no something special. Some older NICs may still require cable crossover, but this is not necessary with new hardware...

  • NSX and physical switches

    I'll put up the NSX in a laboratory test with the old switches.  Other than the implementation of 1600 MTU on the same physical network, what else do I need to do it on the same physical network to ensure that it is compatible with the NSX?  Is a switch cisco 2900 a the VTEP and other abilities, that I need and what are the features?

    Basically, you would need only 1600 support MTU with the physical switch VLAN.

    The switches don't need to have the support of vxlan.

    For the physical switches point of view it's just a frame of layer 2.

    If you want to build a complex topology things can change.

  • How to add the physical switch/router to NSX

    Hello

    I check several labs and I have a big question unanswered!

    How can I add physical switch resources to NSX?

    on each of the scenarios, it assumes that you have a few physical interfaces on each host, and you can assign them to a VDS.

    It's good, but it was also available on old vCenter without NSX.

    For example, how can I add switch 24 ports 10 gigabit Ethernet on my Brocade switch to the VMware resource pool?

    Thank you

    Javad

    You are welcome, of course.

    The network virtualization is not on the ability to win, but it's rather on the use of the available capacity of more flexibly to maintain security between virtual machines without worrying about the port based firewall or port-approaches physical configurations and physics on the VLAN externally in your virtual infrastructure.

    Just as the server virtualization adds capability to your server infrastructure, it allows a more flexible use of the physical capacity that is available.  You must you the capacity available to the involved hypervisors.

  • Aggregation of links ESXi requires the configuration of the physical switch?

    Hello

    I have two physical servers that I'll put up with ESXi. Each server has eight physical network cards. My plan is on each server to use:
    -2 management - connected to vSwitch0
    -2 for VMotion - connected to vSwitch1
    -2 for iSCSI - connected to vSwitch2 (I'll use a SAN)
    -2 to access VM network - connected to vSwitch3

    For each pair, a cable should be connected to switch1 and the second would be plugged into switch2.

    The switches are HP A5120 which are stacked into a big switch with RFID. for example I have a 'big' switch which, if one of the two physical switches dies or is turned off, would cause the 'great' switch to lose half of its ports. In this way, all four networks are expected to continue to operate even if a switch "dies."

    All the information I found online said that ESXi can have two physical cards attached to a unique vSwitch and can then do things smart for redundancy (in which case a physical NETWORK card dies) and load balanacing.

    However, while all the guides tell me how to configure it on ESXi, I'm still not sure if I should combine the two cables on the physical switches.

    So, my questions are:

    (1) in order to get the NIC or balancing working in ESXi, redundancy do I have to combine two physical ports that will connect connect two physical ports that connect to the vSwitch?

    (2) with the consolidation of NETWORK cards, I see how to have an active adapter for the management network, and an auxiliary card works fine, but for the iSCSI network, I wouldn't have only two active adapters for double the bandwidth?

    Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    (1) in order to get the NIC or balancing working in ESXi, redundancy do I have to combine two physical ports that will connect connect two physical ports that connect to the vSwitch?

    No, there is no need to configure etherchannel/LACP but this will depend on the type of load balancing, you click on the ESXi host - if you use by default, you don't need to configure Etehrchannel/LACP since traffic for each virtual network interface will be only com ove a single physical port, but you will always have the reiciliency to the case where if one of the physical NIC fails traffic then released the remaining port

    If you select the hash of the IP load balancing, you must then implement Etherchannel/LACP on your physical switch since traffice can come form any physical port in the team.

    (2) with the consolidation of NETWORK cards, I see how to have an active adapter for the management network, and an auxiliary card works fine, but for the iSCSI network, I wouldn't have only two active adapters for double the bandwidth?

    Onece well once again it will depend on the Load Balancing method, you select, but you will never be able to create links physical ports to get all of the 2 GB =

  • Bulletins snowmaking Leopoard, Photosmart 7450 and documents in duplex mode.

    Hi all
    I have an iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and a Photosmart 7450 printer.
    I connected the printer Cable all'iMac and this fact was recognized immediately and the printer works perfectly.

    The only problem is that I cannot print in duplex mode, in fact, in the menu item Layout duplex is inactive?
    How to print documents in duplex mode?
    Thank you.

    You have a module of duplexing automatic installed at the rear of the printer?

    Another option for you is to choose the options of 'Manipulation of the paper' pull down menu in the print dialog box, and then select Pages to print: Odd only, then re - load paper and select Pages to print: even only.

  • What mac - address is visible to the physical switches?

    I have a Dell crowd with 4 natachasery and vSphere 4.0 hypervisor. natachasery is attached to a physical switch. Switch does not support the CDP Protocol (does support LLDP). Data folding switch, I don't see the mac addresses of Dell natachasery. Instead, I see mac with VMWare OUIs addresses (00: 0C: 29:xx:xx:xx).

    What address is seen the switches? Where can I find these addresses mac VMWare VI Client hypervisor or MOB? Is - this vSwitch mac address (I couldn't find vSwitch mac address anywhere in the VI client)?

    In the CROWD, I see after the objects under HostNetworkInfo:

    Teddy [PhysicalNic]
    * Teddy [' key - vim.host.PhysicalNic - vmnic0 "]
    * Teddy [' key - vim.host.PhysicalNic - vmnic1 "]
    * Teddy [' key - vim.host.PhysicalNic - vmnic2 "]
    * Teddy [' key - vim.host.PhysicalNic - vmnic3 "]
    PortGroup [HostPortGroup]
    * portgroup ['key - vim.host.PortGroup - VM network 16']
    * portgroup ['key - vim.host.PortGroup - network management']
    * portgroup ['key - vim.host.PortGroup - VMKernel']
    * portgroup ['key - vim.host.PortGroup - MLAG test bench"]

    My understanding was that this mac address would be at the level of vSwitch and not at the level of the port.

    Y at - it an another simple way to find (via LLDP?) where the host is connected (vSphere 4.0 or 4.1 vSphere)?

    Thank you, in advance.

  • List of certified physical switches?

    Are there any announcements of material of VMWare Certified switches? We seem to fall an acknowledgment back to one virtual Cluster to another computer and suspect it could be a matter of switch. I searched and did not encounter a list. Thank you.

    I could be wrong, but I know of such a list.  No matter what switch supports the networking typical levels are compatible with a host ESX (i).  It is not any special requirement on the side of the physical switch in the world.

  • physical switch not able to ping VM

    Hi all

    I am very new to vmware so maybe silly question.

    I installed esxi 4.0 on one host that has 2 network cards. In that I have created two vSwitch, one for the service console and the other for the production network. Each vswitch has a connected physical network adapter.

    I packed three virtual computers, and it is connected to vswitch1 under the same group of ports with VLAN ID 100. I have set up the physical switch port which is connected to esxi host vswitch1 as a trunk port.

    My problem is I'm not able to ping of physical switch to virtual machines, but I can't do a ping of VMS to physical switch. also, I'm not able to ping each other vm.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the VMware communities!

    What the GS (guest operating system) runs on virtual machines? Make sure that it has no application in GOS firewall blocks network connectivity. For example, under XP, external hosts cant access the target, if the windows firewall is enabled.

  • identify MAC VMNIC side addresses physical switch (cisco)

    I have several VMNIC connected to 2 network switches to balance the load of the guest computers.

    On ESX server if I run 'ifconfig - a' and can see the MAC addresses of each vmnic, but these are not the MAC addresses shown on the side of the cisco switch.

    How will I know what vmnic is related to what physical switch port?

    Another issue is on the support of the CDP (cisco Discovery Protocol), I see that ESX server has a status of 'listen', what do I need to activate 'advertising' for the cisco switch identify? Any relationship between?

    Thanks in advance.

    Take a look at this article for more information about the CDP: http://blog.scottlowe.org/2009/03/24/viewing-cdp-data-on-vmware-esx/

    You must activate this in the CLI by using the following:

    esxcfg-vswitch -B {listen,advertise,both,down} vSwitch0

    (e.g.)
    esxcfg-vswitch -B both vSwitch0

    To see what it is defined, you can use:

    esxcfg-vswitch -B vSwitch0

  • Duplex mode?

    Dear team,

    one of my vmnic shows me 100 half duplex if I put the same Auto negotiate, to 100 FUL harcode to 100FULL forcefully then it shows vmnic 100 FULL duplex. Can u please help me what is the problem

    Concerning

    MrVMware

    A possible reason is that the switch port is on hard full duplex, this will make your esxi to half when using auto mode.

  • How to limit the voltage common mode for the switch

    The user manual mentions a maximum of ±12V ground for my switch (pxi-2536) but I do not see an entry in the field on the pinout of the connector. If I have a floating supply, should I connect the ground to the chassis on the ground on the back of the PXI? Is there a better way to limit the common mode voltage?

    Thank you specify, it makes much more sense!  The best way to go about this that seems will be grounded to the negative terminal of your power supply to ground the chassis security, as I think you suggested at the beginning.  I don't know what frame you have, but you should be able to find a "Reason for connection security" section in the manual. For example, here are the 1044 chassis manual, with the present article is on page 2-4. http://www.NI.com/PDF/manuals/371360a.PDF

  • Mode of the switch port to connect to a router

    I wonder what mode to set the switchport is connected to a router.

    I guess the cable between the router is connected to a port in trunk mode (for all the VLANS defined)? Then I Lass with gateways for VLANs pointing to the router routing interfaces?

    So in this way, if a neighboring switch does not know how to route a packet to an unknown IP address, the packet is sent on the trunk to the other switch. Here the appropriate VLAN SVI sends the packet to the appropriate router interface. Is this correct or nearly correct?

    Hi Atle,

    You can connect a trunk port or port access to a router. If you choose to use an access port, the router will form an adjacency only through the VIRTUAL LAN defined in this access port. If you choose a trunk port, you can use dot1q encapsulation on subinterfaces of adjacencies form on several VLANs. If you use a trunk you would this type of configuration:

    On the switch:

    item in gi1/0/1 interface

    switchport mode trunk

    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

    switchport trunk allowed vlan a to c

    On the router

    gi0/0.a interface

    encapsulation dot1q one

    IP address x.x.x.x y.y.y.y

    !

    interface gi0/0.b

    encapsulation dot1q b

    IP address v.v.v.v y.y.y.y

    !

    interface gi0/0.c

    encapsulation dot1q c

    IP address z.z.z.z y.y.y.y

    To answer your question, you can use the router as a default gateway for hosts. In this case, should not have an IVR on the switch, except for MANAGEMENT purposes. Traffic from the hosts would take the path of the L2 to the router and then the router would make the next decision of transfer for the package. If you have two routers, you could do a safe for both routers and run a FHRP between them for redundancy.

  • Prior physical switch

    Hi all

    For a simple laboratory design

    I have need a switch that takes in charge of layer 3?

    because I raise only 2 simple pass for network management and service network, but they are physically separated

    Thank you

    Is this related to your double post VNIC?   If Yes can simplify you and repeat the test with a unique VNIC.  If this does not work I would do the following.

    1 use the tool of Traceflow between the virtual machines.

    2. check that the VTEPs can reach between them and the ping of MTU size ++ netstack = vxlan d s DST_VTEP_IP 1572 - if this does not work, you need to set the MTU and/or IP connectivity problem.

    If these two go (traceflow will report the firewall rule that blocks may be), I recommend opening a pension case.
