DVD/CD drive registry damaged - help!

Running: Windows 7 64 bit on a brand new computer
Material: LG 22 x DVD/RW drive
Symptom: Will not recognize any media and when you try to play, gives following error:
"Application not found".

I tried all the possible solutions in this forum and elsewhere.  I narrowed down it to a registry problem, but I can't fix it.  I tried to follow the solution in this forum below, but my record is MISSING the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters, so I can't delete them.

I spent hours on this problem and cannot find a solution.  Help!

Step 1: Start the registry editor

Click Start, run, type regedit, and then click OK. Start the registry editor. (In Vista, right click on the registry editor and select run as administrator)

Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry

In the registry editor, expand my computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.

Expand control and class.

Under class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

In the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.

Entry UpperFilters.bak registry-year note may also appear. To remove the UpperFilters registry entry, you must click UpperFilters and not UpperFilters.bak.

On the Edit menu, click on delete.

When you receive the following message appears, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the UpperFilters registry entry:

Are you sure you want to delete this value?

The UpperFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.

Note do not exit the registry editor. You must have this program for the next step.

Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry

In the registry editor, expand my computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.

Expand control and class.

Under class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

In the right pane (topic area), click LowerFilters.

A note LowerFilters.bak registry entry may also appear.

To delete the LowerFilters registry entry, you must click LowerFilters and not LowerFilters.bak.

On the Edit menu, click on delete.

When you receive the following message appears, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the LowerFilters registry entry:

Are you sure you want to delete this value?

The LowerFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.

Exit Registry Editor.

Hello

Not in RegEdit, I thought in the Device Manager.

In the control panel - Device Manager which you may already have done.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack.

In DeviceManView - Options - check show only connected devices.

Still sounds like material.

  • Help! DVD/CD drive does not!

Help! I used the Microsoft Fix It, I went through community forums and followed the links here and there, I even followed of it: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929461 that requires you to modify your registry! YET, without success!

Yesterday, the Windows Vista update ran, everything was hunky dory and a-okay (or so I thought). After that I turned off the computer, ran some errands, the CD-ROM/DVD-rom drive does not work! When I try to run a program installed which requires a disc (like a video game) I get the message "unable to locate the CD-ROM: Please insert the right CD-ROM, select OK and restart the program" even if the disk is in the computer. When I try to insert media, AutoPlay will not... Well... running! I went to the COMPUTER file and found 2 things; underneith the tip where it know "Devices with removable storage" I found a D:\ RW Drive who said that the device was not found, and to the right a menu similer who told me to "Insert a disc" when I clicked on D:\ RW.

I looked in the DEVICE MANAGER to take a peek at my drivers and find my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM driver and he told me that the unit was working properly - HOWEVER, when I run Microsoft Fix It he told me something different. He told me my filters of class are corrupt, filter of device drivers are corrupt, device is not working properly, drive is disabled, drive is not assigned a drive letter. Now it's all hunky dory but I don't speak computer, and I would like to DISABLE ONE and non-CORRUPT everything!

I have already done a system restore and follow the link that requires you to enter in your registry and remove the filters. It's a gateway computer, I already spoke with gateway and they told me to do a factory restore (which I have not yet done because I would like to know if there is a way to fix this problem without uninstalling EVERYTHING on my computer).

I really hope that this is not a lost cause. Help me to Microsoft, you're my only hope.

Try this step for your DVD player problem:

    Delete the UpperFilters registry entry:

Click Start, in the search box, type regedit, and then press ENTER.  Start the registry editor.

    1. in the registry editor, expand my computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

    2. expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.

    3. expand Control and class.

    4. under class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

    5. in the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.

Entry UpperFilters.bak registry-year note may also appear.  To remove the UpperFilters registry entry, you must click UpperFilters and not UpperFilters.bak.

    6. on the Edit menu, click on delete.

    Delete the LowerFilters registry entry

    1. in the registry editor, expand my computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

    2. expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.

    3. expand Control and class.

    4. under class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

    5. in the right pane (topic area), click LowerFilters.

A note LowerFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the LowerFilters registry entry, you must click LowerFilters and not LowerFilters.bak.

    6. on the Edit menu, click on delete.

    7. When you receive the following message appears, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the LowerFilters registry entry:
Are you sure you want to delete this value?

The LowerFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.

    8. exit the registry editor.

Once you have you removed the damaged registry, you will need to reinstall the driver by following the instructions below.

To reload the drivers for the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM/CD-R/W:

    1. Please right-click on computer and choose Properties.

    2. click on Device Manager on the left side of the window.

    3. click on the + sign next to CD/DVD PLAYERS

    4. the + sign will become a sign - and you can have a list of several drivers drop-down below. If so, each driver must be removed at once.

To remove a driver simply hover the mouse over the driver, right click the mouse once and choose "Uninstall".

    5. continue to remove those drivers until it is no longer a topic for the CD/DVD PLAYERS.

    6. search for IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers and repeat the same steps to delete all of them as you did for CD/DVD players.

Note: When asked to restart, not until all are uninstalled

    7. the title of IDE/ATA/ATAPI Controller will not disappear and all controllers may not disappear after being uninstalled

    8. click on the X in the upper right corner of the window MANAGER of DEVICES.

9 restart the system and let windows reload the correct drivers.

    10. check if the problem is solve.

You can search on the Internet and download it.

Read the instructions to learn how to run.

It is not difficult, it's just different then most of the people are too used.

  • Error code 19 - CD/DVD-ROM problem. Please help and read the description first!

I tried to load my games such as rollercoaster tycoon on my computer by inserting them into the disc drive. Nothing happens. I went to toautoplay and it had all the right settings I wanted. I changed several times and tried to re - insert the disc, but nothing has happened yet. I thought it was a problem of CD/DVD drive, so I went to 'Computer', right-click on Vista64 (C :) and selected 'properties'.) I clicked on the Hardware tab, and then on HL - DT - ST DVDRAM GS20N, my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive. I realized quickly that there was a problem, because the box said"device status: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its information of configuration (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.» (Code 19) «. I looked at the code 19 on the support Web page and found a link to a Microsoft Fixit, Windows Powershell 1.0. I installed the program, he ran through and he said that he had fixed the problem. I inserted the game once more, but still nothing happens. I went to my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive once more and he said that the problem was not resolved. I don't know how to solve this problem. Help, please! (It is not just the CD I try to insert, because none of the many CD I tried to use will work). Should I try to restart my computer?

    Hi meluvcheese22,

This can occur when more than one service is defined for a device, if there is a failure opening the service subkey, or if the driver name cannot be obtained from the service subkey.

To resolve this problem, you can follow the methods below:

    Method 1:

Important: The following instructions contain the steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information, view the article:How to back up and restore the registry in Windows:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-the-registry

    a. Click Start and then click all programs.

    b. click Accessories and then click Run.

    c. type regedit and then click OK.

    d. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.

    e. in the navigation pane, search for, and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    f. in the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note: You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You don't have to delete this entry. Click UpperFilters. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you may still have to delete the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step i.

    g. in the Edit menu, click on delete.

    h. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

    i. in the right pane, click LowerFilters.

    j. in the Edit menu, click on delete.

    k. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

    Exit Registry Editor.

    Mr., restart the computer.

You can check the link below: your CD-ROM drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116

    Method 2:

    a. Click Start, type devmgmt.msc and press to enter. The Device Manager window opens

    b. expand DVD/CD player and right click on the sub element and click on uninstall.

    c. restart your computer.

    d. open Device Manager, click Action,

    e. click on scan for hardware changes. Follow the instructions.

  • D/DVD-ROM drive cannot read the CD or DVD

    Hello

I use Windows Vista on my laptop. Its quite some time that I did not use my DVD/CD drive. Today, I try to use but cannot read any CD or DVD. I was trying to solve the problem of updating the drive, but still cannot fix. Can I use Microsoft FIX IT microsoft support but the problem still there.

Something to say: windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration (in the registry) information is incomplete or damage (Code 19).

Click on 'Search the soluton' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
I did it but the result is COULD NOT LOAD DRIVER SOFTWARE.

Please advise what should I do?

    Thank you!

    Hello

It is very rare for the methods in the 1st answer above does not fix a Code 19.

You might have a disk problem as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD and CD burn and)
DVD playback). Therefore, it is not unusual for 1 or 2 rooms with not so work that others do it properly.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are some registry entries

  • After the upgrade to win 7, it no longer recognizes my dvd/rw drive

My gateway does not recognize that I have the dvd player

    Hello

As the system originally had a different version of Windows do you run Upgrade Advisor and
see the compatibility for CD/DVD compatibility Center (and other devices according to the needs).

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Please run this now. http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-7/get/Upgrade-Advisor.aspx

Also check the Compatibility Center (for the main devices)
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

Check with the system manufacturer and the manufacturer of the device for more information about the drivers for Windows 7.
(BIOS, chipset of low-level drivers and other main device drivers).

Check with the drivers, documentation online and Support technique Gateway.

However the same issue could have an impact on your drive.

If the system can run Windows 7 AND there are drivers for the devices that these might help:

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and the
correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.
