It appears (process of elimination) CD (with standard around the CD labels) turns properly, make a LOT of noise, can not climb, may hang on a track and will not eject, even after all the noises appropriate ejection.   I have a Satellite 1800-700 with a CD TEAC DV-28-A/DVD player. The drive works fine, except when I try to boot from the CD/DVD (I have a couple of Live CD of different linux distributions that I would try - see which ones that take in the material).

  CDs all start on the display options of the core - I get this first screen with each of them, however, when I make my selection and try to keep the computer hangs either or I get a CRC error, tell me that there is some sort of problem with playing.

  I tried the CD with other computers and they work fine. I also started windows and looked through the CD directory structure and it also works without problem.

  Only when I boot directly from CD/DVD drive misbehave.

  Any ideas?

  There is no problem with your just drive there is communication problem between Linux and the reader. I no a lot of experience, but you should try to find a good driver on the server Linux distribution page (don t know which distribution of Linux you are using).

• Dell Precision does not recognize installed Plextor SATA CD/DVD-RW optical drive

  Help!  I installed the drive physically and the works of power IE draw randomly goes in & out.  I tried to plug the SATA cable into the two slots on the motherboard and not work IE I don't see the drive in Explorer solutions or my computer.

  Model is Plextor PX-810SA

  PC:

  • running XP Professional SP2
  • has 2 SATA drives
  • a CD RW/DVD IDE in the top slot 5.5
  • I put the DVD SATA in the 2nd slot 5.5

  PS my BIOS says for what it's worth, that my OS is Vista, when in fact it is XP PRO!

  Try this:

  1. click on start

  2. click on run

  3. type in diskmgmt.msc

  4. in the lower pane, scroll down until you see your device

  5. right click, choose paths and change the drive letter

  6. click on edit

  7. change if necessary

• Dell Optiplex 755 slimline DVD RW player replacement optical drive CD RW combo?

  I recently bought a Dell Optiplex 755 Tower. It came with an optical drive CD/DVD ROM I need to replace the optical DVD RW CD RW slimline drive. After having talked with Dell they recommended the disc Dell HV 702, but I do not think that the HV 702 will be read & burn these two formats (only CD RW & DVD ROM capacity), but I could be wrong. does anyone know if it's the combo drive that I'm looking for or, I should look a mftr of third party or another drive from Dell?

• Optical drive for XPS 17 (L702X) read is not all disks

  I have recently reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit, after that my HARD drive has failed.  After reinstalling on a SSD my optical drive is having problems recognizing discs.

  • Audio CDs are readable
  • Burned data discs are readable
  • An a printer installation disc is recognized, but the drive seemed too hard trying to read the disc
  • Set of diskettes (Starcraft 1 & 2) are all two not recognized at all
  • DVD is not recognized at all the
  • Blu Rays are not recognized at all the

  This player has no analysis of my Dell of the reader.  It doesn't have the 'Linear CD compare Test read' after that everything else in the way of a data CD was necessary for.  The 'Audio CD test' it, but it has never acknowledged any of the DVD after that.  The same thing happened with Blu Rays.

  Windows says I updated all the drivers required.  When I go into Device Manager identifies the optical drive as a "CD-ROM/DVD-ROM readers."  If I ask the Device Manager to search for updates for the driver it says I have the latest version "Drive of CD-ROM."

  I also went to the Dell support Web site and entered my serial number.  I tried to update the firmware on the drive (4 firmware updates are displayed under "Removable storage" and according to me, it says I already have the latest version.

  This computer was delivered at Dell with PowerDVD, I do not have the reinstallation. I have VLC, I could play DVDs. I really hope that getting the right software is not easy, my quick fix. I feel really stupid (but grateful that you pointed out there!)

  I'm 'Ok' when it comes to work on my machine, but I'm still learning a lot.  These are my symptoms and what I tried.  Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to hearing from someone.  Thank you once again!

  I use M17X bought in September 09, 4 years of good performance in trouble with SATA and ATA HDs. After some time tried to fix and find materials and parts always treated with Bios Core Secure of the system or has been changed. I'm in the same situation as yours.
