e-mail lost

I recently lost is worth a year of e-mail. The only thing I can understand is it that this happened just after I compacted the electronic. All front a year ago is still there. Any ideas?

What is in Outlook Express?

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

Why mail disappears:
http://www.insideoe.com/problems/bugs.htm#mailgone

Recovery methods:

If you are running XP/SP3, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

And backup often.

Laptop became horribly slow online. Tests suggested corruption Firefox. R/R to the current version. Two mailboxes (everyone) are maintained as the last in use. All others are lost in the transition. Gmail and Yahoo do not recognize my new settings Firefox beyond two registered accounts. I have several accounts for various uses. • Outlook Express E-Mail lost

Recently, my computer crashed and gave a blue screen. I had a local computer repair company, to repair it for me. They ran a virus scan Ad-Aware and my Outlook Express mail was lost. To get my email Outlook Express return account, I had to open a new account, not having my old e-mail messages. How can I recover my old Inbox and sent folders messages?

If you are using Vista, the messages are stored as eml files, then you will get *.eml.  If you use OE, then messages are stored in dbx files and you will need to search for *.dbx.  Seewww.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4 andwww.oehelp.com/backup.aspx .  My DBXpress program (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) may be able to help to retrieve messages if you use OE (but it won't help with Winmail).

  • Windows Live Mail lost from the storage boxes

I have also returned to Windows 7 from Windows 10 and have lost 2 subfolders of storage that contains about 1000 emails.

My Telco provider said it is not their problem, because I can still send and receive mails to my optus email address.

    Help, please.  Thank you.

Your email provider is correct.  Not their fault.

Many of my clients use WLM.  I've seen this before.  Quite frankly, in all cases I've seen, is the user who did this to themselves by accidental deletion, or involuntary movement of a folder inside or another folder.  In the latter case, the file I not lost, just misplaced.

Watch very carefully each of your folders displayed on the initial screen of WLM.  Some of them have very light yellow color on the left arrows.  These arrows mean that there is a folder inside this folder.  They can even be nested many layers deep.  Investigate all these cases and see if you can find them.

If you do regular backups, this could be retrieveable.  Here's how:

How to back up the usual way WLM:

    Mailing address:

    1. Click on this same arrow at the top left, choose Export mail, emails, Windows Live Mail
    2. It will ask you where to write the file and you can direct to your external storage device

    Contacts:

    1. Go to the section Contact in WLM (the third icon in the lower left)
    2. Choose export values separated by commas
    3. Navigate to the location where you want the backup to be stored on your external hard drive and the name of the file, click on save, then place a check in each box, click OK

Restoring this backup is another story.  I'm not going in there now, but if you need further assistance on that come here.

    Here's another tip WLM.

WLM contains all your data in a folder that is located about 7 levels deep.  It is hidden.  There is no good reason, I don't know to bury him there.  I move just at the level of C: in a folder named (email yourname).  Then when I do backups, I copy this folder to my back upwards as well as the usual WLM backup procedure.

The beauty of this record is that if you ever have to move to another computer, you can move this folder to the new computer and have everything just as it was in the old.  This includes even calendars providing no se backup feature.

    To move:

Click on this small blue rectangle with the arrow inside, then choose Options, mail

Click the Advanced tab, then interview, and then store the file

Click on edit and then move into the new folder that you just created to C: or whenever you choose.

    And then click OK.

Nothing will change until you stop WLM and then restart.  At that time there WLM to happen to the new location.  Nothing will be lost or changed

  • Mail lost a week or two after the installation of El Capitan

I got some e-mail from El Capitan installation problems. I saw another thread on this subject, which advised using the command 'Rebuild' on the mailbox concerned. I did this morning, only for MAIL in the Inbox disappeared. There were some important mails received since I last saved via Time Machine - is it possible that I can get back to this mailbox? The command 'Rebuild' did a pretty good job of demolition on the Inbox!

They are still present on the mail server? You should really backup before you try any system changes.

If you use Outlook Express in WinXP SP3, chances are that installing the updates was simply a coincidence.

In the future, to avoid this Corruption:

N ' not use Inbox or sent items to archive messages.  Move them to local folders created for this purpose.

-Empty the deleted items folder daily.

-Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE while records that "work offline".  More onhttp://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

-Do not cancel automatic compacting, where it would happen and do not try to close OE via Manager tasks or stop your Automatic compaction machine can take place.

-Disable e-mail scanning in your antivirus application.  It can cause corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and offers no additional protection:

  • Passwords and e-mail lost

I got a laptop with Windows VISTA home edition installed. Previous owner has forgotten her e-mail address and the password that the machine has not been used for about 3 years. I can't get updates or connect to anything except as a guest. Any ideas?

Your only supported option that circumstance is to make a computer factory reset to make it all new Windows Vista, like it was when the previous owner took home from the store.  To do this, simply put in the Windows Vista recovery disc it came with that and restart.

  • Windowns Mail - lost all my mails and folders

    Hello

I removed my Facebook Farmville account & then I went to the programs & features to see if I had to uninstall it from there. The only thing I noticed was the Zynga toolbar, which I uninstalled it. I had to reboot my computer. After that, I noticed a few items (small icons - I'm not computer at all, so please forgive me), were absent. Then I opened my Windows Mail and everything was gone, including all folders that I created and had recorded important emails. I tried to make 'System restore', but it did not work. Unfortunately, I don't have a recent backup drive myself and I stop Backup & Restore Norton because I ran out of disk space. Is it possible that I can get everything back? I don't seem to receive emails all over because I should have received a few new now. I was able to retrieve that email from my Verizon 5 to9, 2011 @ 16:39. My system seems to have declined about 21:00 on 09/05/2011. I don't know how to see if I get an answer to this question, so hopefully, I can get an alert message - show.

    Thank you so much,

    Babacar

The message store has been reset.  Try going to tools | Options | Maintenance | Advanced | Store the folder to find the location of the message store.   Then go to control panel | Folder options | View and uncheck Hide extensions of known file types and check the box to show the hidden files and folders.  Then see if you can navigate to the message store to find messages.  First, back up that by making one copy somewhere else.  Compare what you have in the Inbox indicating Winmail is there with the actual number of eml files, which are the actual messages.  See www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm.   Also try to compact and repair the database (see www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/).  And know that Norton and WinMail can't get along very well and then you should watch this also: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 his shattered things possible Norton.

You can also try to search *.eml and include files and folders hidden in the advanced search parameters and you might find them in a different directory than the current base of messages.

  • Forced July 2011 change of Outlook Express in Windows Mail - lost Inbox, accounts

July 2011, updated night substituted Windows Mail to my Outlook Express.  The previous settings, accounts, box receipt, messages sent and saved files have disappeared.  I have trouble finding them for re-import them in Windows Mail.  Orientation, please?

There is no Outlook Express on Vista, so it's hard to understand what happened.  If you want to run Windows Mail, then it is under "c:\program files\Windows Main\Winmail.exe".  You can copy it (including the quotation marks) and click Start | Search and paste that here and WinMail should start.  But there is no OE in Vista.  Can you download Windows Live Mail installed and that's what you see.  But you need to clarify what exactly you use above all can help more.

  • Windows Mail - lost old E-mail

I recently reformatted my hard drive. Before you reformat, I backed up all the data on DVD.

Now I can't restore my emails from the DVD.

Is there a way I could get my old emails that I desperately need to an individual?

It would just depend on how you have saved your emails on DVD. Have you used the available in Windows Mail export function?
Note that Windows Mail import feature has difficulty to work directly with external support, then copy the files to your hard drive, first, and make sure that the read attribute is not set (as often happens with files on a CD/DVD).
