E2500 and security

Hello

I have a desktop computer (Windows 8) connected to a router E2500, and I have a wireless connection to a laptop (Windows 8) in another room. Even though I followed the instructions, I found on the Web of Linksys site, I'm always worried about safety, especially after recently upgrading to DOCSIS 3.0 modem is always on (no sleep as my old had button). I have the router configured to not display the SSID.

As an example, my router SSID is XYZ. The area of desktop settings, my connection is listed as XYZ, connected status. It is always connected with no option to disconnect. No other connections not watch as being available. On the laptop, XYZ is listed and shows as connected manually after I connect. I don't have to enter a password or username, even if I think that I have the first time I have never connected, even if I do not remember for sure now. Lower than a unsecured network is available (a neighbor, I think), and below that is a hidden network. If I click on hidden network, I am prompted to enter a SSID name, and I guess that's actuallly my XYZ, given SSID I'm not broadcasting.

Also broadcasts it not, I also entered the mac address of my computers through Cisco connect, but I don't remember exactly what that article.

Cipher mode is WPA2-PSK.

I wonder if it is normal that Notepad to display the name XYZ (since I'm not radio) AND the hidden network. I expect only a hidden network of show, and I would need to enter the SSID and password every time I log in.

As you can tell, I am not tech savvy, and I hope I described things quite well. If this isn't the case, I'll try to clarify.

As for safety, I discovered last night that Norton Security has an option to block all network traffic, I thought I would ease my mind on the router and the modem is on 24/7. I chose on two computers and put them to sleep, but a few hours later, I discovered that the option was put back to allow traffic on the computers and the PC was out of the way "sleep" for a reason any.

I read the comments of some people in the forum that safety is not improved do not broadcast the SSID, but even if that's the case I'd rather not unless there is a compelling reason not to use this feature.

Thanks for any input...

Sorry for the delay in getting back here. I want to thank you all for the helpful answers and links and to set my mind at ease. I feel so much better in my wireless security now and the feeling that everything is put in place as it should.

Thanks again and take care!
