Where can I get a set of recovery discs to DVD-ROM for my Portege M400 Tablet products please?

    Hello

Usually, you can order the recovery disk using this page:
    https://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

But this page provides a recovery only for the most recent disk series laptop.
I'm not very well if you'll be able to order the recovery disk because of the age of the M400 m

Anyway, the other possibility would be the ASP. You can contact your authorized service partner and could ask this disc

In the worst case, you can use a clean Windows disc and Toshiba drivers are downloadable from the page of the driver.

  • Portege M400 & Tablet Multi Dock

    Hello

Toshiba does not Tablet Multi Dock compatible devices for portable Portege M400. No one has tried to pair these two devices? What are the results?

    Hello

I found the info you can use follow with your Portege Docker:
    PA3508U-1PRP
    PA3508E-1PRP
    PA3508A-1PRP
    PA3508C-1PRP
    PA3508Z-1PRP (Express Port Replicator)

Obviously Tablet Multi Dock is not listed as supported. As far as I know this tablet Multi Dock is old enough (about three years and it has been designed for Portege M200.)

  • Gel Portege M400 tablet PC Web pages

My company is obligated to three M400 and we all have the same problem. We are running XP Professional. At least 50% of the time the screen freezes when viewing web pages. To thaw, I have to minimize and maxim\ise the page and I cannot enter data. A typical scenario would be that I did not know that the page froze until I click on a hyperlink and, even if I switched the hyperlink, nothing happens on the screen until I minimize and optimize. Once the screen has thawed, I see that the PC has already jumpedto the new page, but could not view it.

This seems to indicate a problem with the graphics so material/softare.

Any thoughts on what is happening? Someone else had this problem? It is very annoying, because our client software is primarily focused on the web.

Remove first the Intel Proset Utility in the management of the system-> add remove programs
Then start msconfig and look for the Adobe Acrobat Reader Faststart (sorry, but I don't remember the exact name). Disabling this function.
Now, your system crashes should be gone.

  • Portege M400: click right button on the pen does not work

    Hello

I can't button right-click on the barrel of the pen to work with my new Portege M400 tablet PC. I tried with the option 'Use the stylus buton click-right' in the 'Pen settings' tab 'settings in Tablet and stylus' dialog checked and unchecked, but none worked.

Is the stylus defective, or worse still the computer? Or can anyone suggest how to operate?

    Thank you

    Toby

PS: "pen" should be "nep" reversed in option, tab and dialog names above, but the silent filter profanity does not accept the word "nep" (reverse).

    Hello

You have this problem since the first day? Please remember that the pen is not in a very long distance from the screen. As you know if the distance is too great the pen will not work as usual.

  • Portege M400: Black screen from time to time

    Hello!

I have a little problem with my Portege M400 Tablet PC. The laptop runs great most of the time. Unfortunately, from time to time, the screen goes all black - or to be more precise, the screen shows up again. In most cases, the display has been disabled by my energy saving profile, and when I try to put the screen back on (for example by moving the slider or press any key, just like usual), the screen remains black. I see that the computer works and I can for example hibernate the computer, but even after waking up, the screen is always black. Also, it does not help to change the power profile or output or anything - the screen remains like that until I restart the computer.

I have the new bios 1.80 (because of the better fan control) and I updated the Intel chipset drivers already (I've had the problem before, so it is not the update of drivers). Any idea that he might be, perhaps the bios (it was the first thing I installed after the purchase of the laptop I knew before the fan will be strong otherwise).

    Hello Alex

I found interesting article from Microsoft about this problem. Please check under http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917332/en-us

Of course, you must install Windows XP KB917332 on your device. This should help.

    Good luck!

    Hi Raymondsmith,

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community!

If I understand correctly you installed XP Professional Toshiba portege M400 and tactile function does not work.

Raymondsmith, XP Pro does not support the touch screen feature. I suggest you to install the Tablet PC edition.

  • Portege M400 - cannot use full 4 GB of RAM

I installed two modules of KTT667D2 / 2G on my laptop (Portege M400-103, part No. PPM40E - 012018 G 3) - total do 4 GB. However, the two original Windows XP Tablet and Ubuntu 9.04 are unable to see all 4 GB - they see 3.2 GB only.
The BIOS displays the amount properly - 4096 Mb.
I also tried to solve the problem of updating the BIOS to the latest version (3.80, 30/05/08), but two operating systems (Windows and Ubuntu) see still 3.2 GB only.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

    That s nothing unusual!
That s a limitation of 32-bit. All operating systems 32-bit (no matter if it is Vista, XP or Linux) can manage 3.2 GB max.
Only a 64-bit OS might be able to use and recognize more than 3.2 GB of RAM

You should read a few articles about 32 bit OS and 4 GB RAM problem.

  • Portege M400 and 3.60 BIOS

Ubuntu Linux running on the M400 and it seems that almost all BIOS version 3.60 prerequisite are broken because there are errors of the quirk on the CPU APIC. Perhaps Microsoft could circumvent the APIC tables broken for awhile but things with Linux is a bit bulky. Microsoft asked to Toshiba for a BIOS update to address these issues and it seems to be fixed from 3.50.

    See here

Even under Linux not more APIC errors appear. :-) But after the update from 3.60 BIOS splash screen remains active and keeps me to select an option for a boot (grub) multi entry. If the OS is already from the start screen become white first, then gives finally control the operating system. Others see this as well?

I am able to select something in my Start menu, but it is more guess the start screen is always at the top. Very annoying it :-(

Another issue I have is that sometimes the system freezes for a few seconds and then continues, nothing to see in the logs when you use a Tablet Ubuntu or Windows XP Home edition. So might be a bug in the BIOS once more. Yet once you are looking for confirmation, other know about this as well.

Reflash 3.60 a couple of times, but seeing this behavior over and over again.

Although it seems to be some control fan in 3.60. He does not like a DC9 aircraft, but were still not silent like the 1.80W or the 2.10N of BIOS versions. Nice to see these fan noise changes incorporated in 3.60 and later

    Hi Robert

I know you hate me, but the fact is that Portege M400 has sticker next to the keyboard and it says something like designed for Microsoft. With short words: Linux OS is not supported.

If you need help with Linux on Toshiba laptops please check http://newsletter.toshiba-tro.de/main/index.html

Question about freezing is very strange and if you want to check properly install recovery without additional software image. In this case you will have factory settings and clean the preinstalled operating system. If you notice some outstanding questions, you must contact authorized service partner and clarify this point.

    Good luck!

  • Touch screen does not work on the old Portege M400

I'm trying to restore an old Toshiba Portege M400. I have WIN XP Tablet 2005 installed and which, according to me, are all the drivers. Everything works perfectly except the touch screen.

I've been all over the web, downloaded and installed some drivers WACOM Vigneau suggested in another thread here - still no luck.

Anyone have any ideas or experience on how to solve this problem?

    > I would not be able to use my fingernail or or a pencil eraser to type with (I don't have any kind of pen) just to test?

To my knowledge, you have the pen in order to use the touch screen.
As far as I know there are two pens in the portege M400.
The reserve pen located at the bottom of the unit that there should be a slot that the second pen.

  • Portege M400 - Windows XP cannot find the hard drive

    Hello

Ive got a Portege M400 who im looking to get a new one, I never had the Tablet XP CD so im trying to install using an XP Pro disk, but whenever I get no hard drive can be detected and I tried another disc of publishing house also.

Ive looked for SCSI / SATA drivers but can only find RAID drivers which are not good for me.

I hope someone can help me

    Thank you

    Hi wacksonjackson,

Why these RAID drivers are not good for you? Windows XP requires RAID drivers if your laptop is RAID controller and there is no other choice to install XP from a normal Windows XP disc. Then download the RAID drivers on the official website of Toshiba. Either you create a new installation with the RAID drivers disc using nLite freeware tool or you copy the drivers on an external USB FDD and load them during the installation of XP.

Also check similar topics here in the forum. You will find hundreds of similar topics on SATA and RAID drivers.

  • Cannot install Vista Business on Portege M400 - IDE issues

Hi guys... I am looking for your help.

I downloaded all the new Vista drivers avaiable from Toshiba in support of the new installation of Vista business on my old Portege M400, that came preloaded with a version of XP Tablet and kept their loan on a CD.

I also upgraded the version of the ACPI BIOS to the latest available 3.80.

I insert the first CD of Vista professional and do a boot. (I also have a n upgrade Vista Business CD but I want to do a clean install).
I go past the first steps and choose Install.
I am faced with an error message "no disk has been found. "Click on load a driver to provide a device for installing mass storage.

Looks like Vista is not able to see the IDE drive to the edge and it's a driver problem.

I touched the "Rescan" button available on the windows installation and another message appears: "no device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct driver, and then click OK. »

Currently loaded on the XP: currently loaded poster IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers like Device Manager: "Intel (R) 82801 G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers and primary IDE channel."

Hard drives shown are: Toshiba RAID SCSI Disk Device LD0

Pls tell, what new drivers since available downloads of drivers Vista for my model 400 ML PPM40E, should I choose here for my Vista installation recognizes the disk available?

    Hello

It is very easy to solve this problem.
If you would look on the page of the European driver Toshiba (Portege M400 section), then you will notice that a RAID driver is available for this model of laptop.

Impossible to install Vista because it cannot find the HARD drive due to lack of RAID driver!

You must install the RAID driver first and then you can proceed with the installation of Vista.
As far as I know the Vista installation accepting the USB flash key you can use this key to include the RAID driver.

Hope I could give some useful advice.

    Cheers mate

When I received it, all the manuals were in German, but the operating system and the programs were in English when I turned it on. So I decided to test the recovery CD to see if it would work, because I knew that I would probably need it in the near future. However, when I installed the OS was in German, all toshiba programs are in German. I sent the guy I bought it said to contact toshiba and see if they would be able to send me a recovery CD which is in English. I hope someone can help me coz Ive has now been left with a tablet pc that I can't use coz I don't understand German =)

    Hi guys

I get the same info from the ASP in my country. You can get the Toshiba Recovery CD in the same language, where the laptop was purchased.
If you want to use another language of the OS, so you need to install the operating system from the original CD of Microsoft and then you can download and install the necessary Toshiba drivers on the site of Toshiba driver.
By the way. Each manual user in all languages, you can also download from the Toshiba site.
