Edition of msconfig

Is there a way to know which items listed in msconfig are addon by other software that put their activations of service here? I want to change the list, leaving only the essential elements for the computer to function properly.

  • I have 3 Professional edition on my desktop PC, they did an update and now they will not boot.

I have 3 Professional edition on my desktop PC and they all have a few updates a few days ago and when they went to restart as he asked, none of them does not start because of the update, so is this update file corrupted? If Yes / if not, what should I do? all they can do is start in safe mode which make me good

    Hi Pflarry123,

    1. what happens when you start in normal mode?

    Method 1

Check first if the start option in the system configuration utility to change in safe mode.

    (a) open the Start search menu or run box and type msconfig and press the Enter key.

(b), select the Startup tab and make sure that this option of safe modebox is not checked, if it is checked uncheck it.

    (c) later, click OK and restart the computer.

    Method 2

If method 1 doesn't work, then try to clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

    I have a x 86 pc with Windows XP Home Edition SP3 and IE8.

Found while searching "All boot paths" to Start\Run\msconfig\BOOT. INI that one boot path has been highlighted with errors indicating that "file is corrupt because playing a disc error has occurred" and that NTLDR is missing or corrupt.  In fact, it is blurred.  It points to "Recovery Console Microsoft Windows/cmdcon.  I've not used the Recovery Console, ever.

I have a desktop Gateway 5310 S (detail) and no original XP disc, apparently.

I have, but never used, a 4ea. set of recovery CD as of 12/05/05 I need to have created after purchase.

I also had many, odd, problems that come and go, including worth displaying various websites, Yahoo Home Pages and E-mail that keep switch to compatibility mode or outright deletion.  The video and audio on Hulu and video-on-demand online services are always out of sync.  I have problems with editing posts on sites like this even if I can edit my profile fine pages.

This particular set of problems started recently and very suddenly, from one day to the other.  It was after he worked actually pretty good for a change.

I don't know how long the boot.ini file has been damaged, I actually discovered by chance.

I can also not to reinstall some programs such as Family Tree Maker 2005 and 2008, when it was suggested to me by ancestry.com to uninstall/reinstall.

I have the latest Java and Adobe Flash Player.  I've defragged and disc verified my discs.

I used CCleaner to delete temp and unwanted files per day.  I ran Hitman Pro, MBAM, MBAR, MSE and SAS several times without detected virus or malware.

And, as I mentioned above, I have problems with the editor of this site, right now.  Sometimes it just freezes and I have to leave to clear.  Other times it's duplicating entire sentences.  He also flip/flip flops between a Publisher full page and, as now, a half page window of the editor on the half left of the page.

Suggestions from what people you can come would be greatly appreciated.  This gets really annoying.

    Thank you

When you check the paths in the boot.ini file, and the recovery console is installed, you will always get an error message indicating that the startup path is not valid.

If the recovery console is actually corrupted just to uninstall, you can reinstall or burn a cd with the recovery console.

go here for instructions on deleting the recovery console.

Here's how to make a bootable xp recovery console cd

    Courtesy of JoseIbarra

You need start by booting in XP using a CD Recovery Console, you can do (no XP media required) and run a chkdsk with error correction command enough times until it is clean and if it does not, you can create a new boot.ini file (this is usually one of two things).

    Here's how:

Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix the problems and then try to start your system - this may be all you need to do.  Or, you are welcome to just start trying things that might work.

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget what you have (no XP media required).

This is not the same as recovery disks that might have come with the acquisition of the system store.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    RC. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/?p=8    (courtesy of Daavee)

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

When you install ImgBurn, DO NOT install the Ask toolbar.

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient. If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

    as for the other problems:

    did you use Registry cleaners?

    These can damage your system

You seem to be free of infection, it would seem that a part of your process cleaning has removed a necessary file.

    Hi all

I am running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build) 2600 and have loads and loads of problems. Windows keeps hung and everything I tried didn't seem to help.
I brought this second hand from a company computer, I used to work and I don't have the original installation cd or rescue disk. I meet a lot of problems and everything takes forever to load and work. I was advised to run maleware, spyware, antivirus and defrag on the computer analyses and I did all that and nothing works. Also, when I tried to run the system restore it wouldn't let me, and when I try to run the scan disk after a reboot it does not work. As a last effort, I tried running SFC and it looked as if it was working, but then it asked me for the initial startup disk, that I don't have. so I tried to cancel it, but now every time that I reboot/restart my computer load SFC and I have to start the entire process. Also, none of my cd drives work. Please help me
Also, I'm now a message that says minimum virtual memory is very low.
I would be very grateful for any help or advice anyone can offer us on these issues. a million thanks in advance.

  • empty entry in msconfig

    Hello

I have Win XP SP3 and I was watching the entries in msconfig and I noticed an empty boot entry. He has no address command but under HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run. I have a feeling it's something left by an installation by windows install... but I'm not sure whether to delete or not in the case, it is important. Recently, I have reinstalled the operating system and I'm sure that it's not malware or anything of that nature. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi cricketer_1,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. You have security software installed on the computer?

There is a possibility that the entry in the startup item in the configuration system (msconfig) utility could be due to infections of viruses or malware on the computer.

I suggest that you scan and remove any malware or computer virus infections and check if you still not find the entry.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

You can also use Microsoft Security databases to scan your computer

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/PC-security/MSE.aspx

If you find the entry in the startup item in the configuration system (msconfig) utility you will need to navigate to the location mentioned in the system configuration utility (msconfig) for the empty entry in the registry and delete the entry.

    To open the Registry Editor:

    • Click on Start menu and click Run.
    • Type regedit and press ENTER.

Before you delete a registry entry, make sure you take the backup of the order of the day.

    • Right-click on the item in the left pane, and click Export.
    • Save the backup file to the desktop.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • How to stop xp lost / forget my password and force me to restart after only one or two days of availability editions home and professional

Title says it pretty well, but it is on two different AMD multi-core cpu with a list programs installed for the most part identical and quite long.  I hope that it is a problem of xp, someone has already found and fixed even if I don't the have not found in several searches.  Before that everyone assumed that I forgot my password, let me assure you that is not and has not been and will not be the problem; but when (after one day or more available), I'm trying to connect with my correct password, xp persistently asks me if I forgot it and of course, this means I have to restart, with its side effects, in order to refresh the memory of xp apparently and allow me to connect.  For what it's worth, in this case, no matter if I 'disconnect' screen lock or me with the Windows key + combination L or even to pass time until the locking screensaver mechanism is used automatically.  It seems that over the years something in a few key file or registry or RAM or what is get corrupted, but what is the solution?  I don't remember what happens until fairly recently, so can it be caused by something changed by one of the most recent Windows updates?  Another thought that occurs to me would be whether there all known software conflicts have caused something like this?   I don't run a server, but I have still xp does not have to be reloaded every day or almost and prompt me to worry what else may be getting damaged as well as my password.  I've kept ZoneAlarm Extreme Security uptodate and analyzed regularly without viral invasions/epidemics coming to my attention, so I am at a loss to point a finger there, too.  All my other software is widely used, as surely as if she caused this problem, others would have reported such a conflict before now (?).  Oh, and I don't do betas (unless you count an occasional Release Candidate), so I don't have this kind of problems.  I know that's not the most urgent global problem, but it always makes me think for a moment, what happens if he loses or forget my password - so what I'll do if the restart does not resolve, even if only temporarily.  I guess you could consider my reboot of a workaround, but I want to find is something that is more durable than all of this, please.  I understand there is a somewhat similar problem involving mode XP of Windows 7 and apparently it may concern unique aspects of this OS, but maybe there's an analogy?  Also, is there a limit to (or how to limit) the number of times where XP will connect a particular user (or user attempt?)?   If so, I would like to know how and where this can be changed, to see if it helps me everything.  Remember, however, there must be something that will work on Home and Professional Editions, that's why he left me speechless.  Oh yes, I want to emphasize that both of my computers are free standing without any local network operating, etc., just a router to access internet and shared printer.  If there is more information you need from me, just post a reply with what you want and I'll try to get back with her in 24 hours, if possible.

    Hi victorwhitehead,

    Method 1:
I suggest you perform a SFC scan and check.
To Perform a Scan SFC -

    a. click Start, click programs, on Accessoriesprincipally made, right click guestand then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow

    b. type the following command and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow

A message appears indicating that "the system scan will start. Be patient, because the analysis may take some time

    c. If all files require a SFC replace will replace them. Hopefully though you should, after the analysis, see the following message "Windows resource protection not found any breach of integrity.

    d. once the scan is finished, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

Check the link for more information on CFS below the scan mentioned:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310747

    Method 2:

You can check if the hard drive has errors or corrupt, sectors that is causing the problem. Refer to the below provided the link and follow the steps provided to check and repair corrupt hard disk sectors:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315265

    Method 3:
    Step 1:

If the computer keeps restarting I suggest you to check the hardware of the computer as the battery of the bios, bad diet, loose cables, etc.

As yu may refer to the article below and check, if you can boot into safe mode in Windows XP. Refer to the below section to start in safe mode.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

    Step 2:
If you are able to start properly in safe mode, then you can perform a boot clean and check for exactly the problem.
To perform the clean boot follow step 1, mentioned in the article, below, and then try again checking in this state of boot -
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

If the issue is resolved check what non-Microsoft service or program is at the origin of the problem. referring to article and following the other steps.
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual and check:

    a. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

  • Change something in msconfig. Get a weird error message.

Hello. Changed a lot of material internally. Re-installed XP. Have all the updates. SP3.

When I go to msconfig and stop some programs start at startup, it gives me this message: access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an administrator account to make the specified changes.

I am an administrator. The only user on the computer. How to stop this message, or others like him? There are a few others like this message I get.

    Thank you.

You are not the administrator. You are a user who has administrator rights. There are some subtle differences.

Windows XP safe mode home is basically identical to that of Windows XP Pro, with a couple of notable changes. In Windows XP Home Edition, the built-in "Administrator" account is only available in safe mode and is the default account for this mode. The password of the administrator account is empty, because it is not accessible except in safe mode. It is recommended that you connect as long as this account for changes in safe mode.

To identify what loads when you start using Autoruns (freeware from Microsoft).

    http://www.Microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx

With Autoruns, you can deselect an item which disables startup, or you can click with the right button on an item, then remove it. If you clear the check box that you can check back for re - activate the element. It is an approach much safer than editing the registry and better than using msconfig.

Another useful feature of the program is that you can click with the right button on an item and select search online to get information about the selected item.

Tinkering with the startup type of services is also unwise because it often introduces errors in the operating system for significant benefits. Commonly, users complain that this or that is not working after hours of frustration trying to fix the problem. Do not confuse the benefits of changing the way that loading programs to the development of services.

  • MS offers windows XP Professional free for customers windows XP Home Edition?

MY PC in the year 2002 came with windows XP Home Edition? But it was much slower compared to windows XP Professional. Many users for win XP prof especially pyrated version. PL Council MS will offer win XP Professional without cost or at a price of offordable?

There is actually no difference in speed between XP Home and XP Pro on a system clean and well-maintained, with adequate equipment. XP Pro can still be bought on Amazon, and perhaps other places. Looking right now, I see a full retail XP Pro on Amazon for $259. I would stay away from eBay and Craig's list for this sort of thing.

No, XP Pro is not available for free from Microsoft.

A better option would be for you to discover why your XP Home is slow instead.

Some reasons for the slow pace of the computer:

    1. computer has not been maintained - http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Maintenance

    2. the computer is infected with the malware - http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

    3. the disk is too full. Remove useless stuff, uninstall unused programs. Do not forget to save!
    http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Backing_Up

    4. flaky third party software. Toolbars and modules are particularly guilty in this area. Uninstall toolbars (Google, Yahoo, ISP brand, etc) and look at what modules are in use in your browser (s).

    5. computer has too many unnecessary programs/processes running in the background. Manage your Startup:

For XP - How to troubleshoot using the Msconfig in Windows XP utility - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=310560
The free Autoruns program is very useful for managing your Startup - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/default.mspx

For Vista/Windows7 - Start Orb > Search box > type: msconfig and when it appears in the results area above, right-click and choose 'run as administrator '. Autoruns is also very useful.

    6. the user runs an inflated/invasive such as Norton and McAfee antivirus program. Replace it with a better program. I recommend NOD32 (commercial) or Avast (free). Avira is also good, but the free version has an unpleasant reminder screen (Google for instructions on how to disable it). The user can also run several real-time antivirus/firewall/security programs.

    7. the user has installed new programs that are processor and/or memory-intensive (Photoshop, AutoCAD, Mathmatica or similar) and does not have the power of the equipment.

8 drive fails and is in PIO Mode. It's very much slow (like being in 1985). See Hans-Georg Michna here information - http://winhlp.com/?q=node/10

In addition to the above, see also http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/02/help-my-computer-is-slow.html

Note: If the computer has always been slow, in addition to the above user may have bought a machine with a less powerful processor and not enough RAM (memory). The normal use of the computer, 512 MB to 1 GB is sufficient for XP; Vista should have a minimum of 2 GB; Windows 7 is less demanding than Vista, but the minimum of 2 GB should also be used.

    Hello

The exact error message would have been very useful because it may be Malware.

It may be a legitimate program.

Would that be it: "MSDTC Console?

    And can be malicious:

It can be a boot entry remains of this Malware.

Download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:
