  • How can I get my old iMac Mavericks on my new computer El Capitan iPhoto?

I'm an amateur photo with literally thousands of photos of scenic and nature, all labeled with keywords and manually marked locations (since my DSLR is not an internal GPS and therefore cannot automatically geotag photos) in iPhoto on our old computer that runs on the Mavericks. Recently, we bought a new iMac that runs on El Capitan, and when we moved my data from the old computer, all of my iPhoto library moved into Photos. Unfortunately, because the pictures does not support the manual tagging locations, all hours of work I put in dropping the pins on maps to show the exact location where all my photos have been taken has disappeared. Enter Photos and keywords to adapt to all of the States, cities and specific locations where these pictures were taken just is not practical; my list of keywords would get horribly difficult to handle, and a good number of these photos were taken in "one-of-a-kind" tasks because they were taken on the fly from a moving vehicle. And that is not even taking into consideration all overtime work that would result. There must be someone out there who is dealing with the frustration of having to deal with a system that was designed for the casual snapshot-takers rather than serious photo enthusiasts! I still have the old computer with iPhoto installed on it and all the photos that I put in it until we bought the new computer. Is it possible that I can get the old computer to the new iPhoto? Can I put it on an external drive or DVD and copy it to the El Cap computer as iPhoto, or will it simply push all in Photos or choke and gag on that? I continue to work with my photos in iPhoto on your old computer, and I hope that he does not die in the near future? (And while we're at it, has any outside me informed Apple photos how bad works for those who need features in iPhoto that does not get incorporated in the Photos? I left a note on the comments, but I have no way of knowing if someone is on my suggestion.)

  • How to put on a new iMac running El Capitan iPhoto?

I have an iMac 2007 end running Yosemite 10.10.5 with only 4 GB of memory.  It has iPhoto 9.6.1 I downloaded on the App store in late 2014.  I use it extensively for thousands of photos.  I intend to move to a new iMac, or possibly one of the Apple laptops in a month.  There El Capitan.

Reading these forums, I understand that el Capitan will run iPhoto if it is of a certain version which, I believe, iPhoto 9.6.1 qualifies.  I would also say that the App store in my list of "Bought" an iPhoto to buy in late 2014, this which I think is the version that I use now. I have also some Time Machine backups.

My question is what would the process of loading the application on the new iMac iPhoto?  After you have configured the new iMac I would go to the App store and download this version (even if it has a button 'Open' However as opposed to a button "Download" next to the iPhoto application); or maybe transfer from a Time Machine backup sort.  Reading these forums, I understand that you must pay attention to setting up a new iMac, that is, that some people have unconsciously converted their libraries to the new 'Photos' and does iPhoto can't go back - al least without too much difficulty.  Also after loading iPhoto on the new iMac how I would get my number (four) iPhoto libraries on the new iMac?

I realize has 'Photos' will in the future with Apple and that I might convert some time, but at that time iPhoto are perfect for me and am not ready to change right now.

    Thanks for any help

    1. here's how:

After you have configured the new iMac would be go to the App store and download this version (even if it has a button 'Open' However as opposed to a button "Download" next to the iPhoto application)

It says 'Open' now that it's on your machine. On the new, he'll say 'download '.

    2. This is not a problem in any form:

Reading these forums, I understand that you must pay attention to setting up a new iMac, that is, that some people have unconsciously converted their libraries to the new 'Photos' and does iPhoto can't go back - al least without too much difficulty.

Photos does nothing for an iPhoto library at all. It creates a new version that works for himself, but leaves the completely intact iPhoto library. You just have to worry about this.

Be absolutely certain that you will have to switch to a new application. Sooner or later, a version of the operating system will come along who are not running iPhoto. Unfortunately, the app is a dead-end.

  • iPhoto went after I updated my OS to El Capitan

Before upgrading my Macbook Pro, I had iPhoto and he had pictures in it. After that I upgraded to OS X El Capitan iPhoto is gone, also when I get on the app store its not available.

If I re install, I find my photos in there? (I don't think right then?)

Your photos have not been preserved in iPhoto, but in the iPhoto library.  This is what we need.  Generally, your iPhoto library that are in the folder "Images". Is this what?

El Capitan has new Photos for Mac application. It will be able to open your iPhoto library, if you find it.

Did you erase your Mac for a clean install, when you went to El Capitan?   Then restore your backup iPhoto library.

You can continue to use iPhoto, if you had been using iPhoto 9.6.1.  This version is compatible with El Capitan.  Check in your Applications folder, if iPhoto is still there.

The AppStore sells more iPhoto, is because it is is more developed.

  • iPhoto 11 works with el capitan

I have a neighbor with a mac that uses exclusively with iPhoto and do not like the new photo app.  If he updates to el capitan iPhoto still work?   It has an iMac 20 "running os 10.10.5.

9.6.1 iPhoto will work in El Capitan; If it uses iPhoto on Mac OS X 10.10.3 or newer, it already has this version. Previous ones will not.

  • how get the iPhoto in new Photos app library?

While the installation of El Capitan, iPhoto has been uninstalled and I find no more photos, I had (thousands of them) in the new Photos app. How can I recover the previous iPhoto library into the new application Photos? Right now I feel I've lost memories for many years.

    Thank you.

1 - iPhoto has not been uninstalled by the upgrade to El Captain - it is always in your applications folder and works fine (you do not have the current version 9.6.1 - if you do not keep your software up to see date cannot update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store )

2 - the first time you launch Photos it should migrate the last iPhoto library used in the pictures - if it is not, or if you want to migrate additional libraries simply do them dragging the Photos icon in the dock - migration details, see How Photos handles content and metadata for iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support

  • Lost with upgrade to El Capitan photos

I upgraded to El Capitan and moved photos to iphoto to Photos and lots of photos were lost.  I have photos on an external hard drive.

Is it possible to take pictures in iphoto and copy them on dropbox and stop using iphoto?  I'm tired of the problems with El Capitan / iphoto / Photos and iCloud

Is it possible to take pictures in iphoto and copy them on dropbox and stop using iphoto?

Of course, just select all and use the Export command on the file menu to export to the Dropbox folder.

Then, remove the photo library and stop using the Photos.

  • iPhoto / OS / Lightroom - incompatibility problem

    Hello

I am new to these forums and the LR and am currently stuck in the OS/software hell and desperately seeking advice.

I just bought LR6 as a stand alone (Nothing creative cloud was noted on the packaging) but when I tried installing - creative cloud installed (don't know why) and I got an error message which LR6 cannot be installed because my operating system needs updated. I contacted Adobe sales and said that according to his 'newspaper page' that it is compatible with my operating system. My Mac laptop running OS X 10.8.5 and my iPhoto is 8.1.2.

My conundrum is that I missed an interim update to iPhoto so that when I update to El Capitan iPhoto no longer works and it seems that I can't install LR6 until I upgraded to El Capitan. It must just be a solution to this problem!

I have 30 000 + photos organized in 258 events, faces assigned to important people, Places (after maps/locations stopped working I entered the place name in the Description field under the field of Places on the 'return' of the photo), filenames turned into legends identifying the picture (on the best photos), editing using iPhoto tools (again on the best photos) and some additional info added to the Description in instances of field on the 'return' of the photo. Lots and lots of work!

    Number of questions:

1-should I export each event in order to separate the files on my hard drive first (then back up my system) and then move to El Capitan?

2 - I will be able to use the same redemption code to re-download LR6 or it will automatically install once I've upgraded?

3 - once I got active LR6 will be able to access my iPhoto Library (mistresses) directly bypass iPhoto to import/add my photos to the LR catalog?

Or do I have to add/import files created by exporting events? (I prefer the iPhoto library import/add, because if I understand LR import / add both the original and the amended photos as well as the metadata - right?)

4 it is possible to get the LR5? It seems to be compatible with my operating system. Once I created my LR in LR5 catalog so can I update to LR6?

I'd appreciate any help and suggestions.  Thank you very much!

LR 6 and the CC version are exactly the same program, even downloaded and installed same files on your hard drive. The differences come from how you Sign In to LR.

Also you need OS X 10.9.X, Mavericks, for LR 6/CC Mt Lion 10.8.x is to old to run LR CC/6.

  • can I make the photo very well (i.e. the contrast or saturation) adjustments

updated snow leopard at el capitan & iphoto is completely different about the ability to adjust the contrast and exhibitions. Help?

You use iPhoto or Photos? The current iPhoto is certainly different from the version that was around with Snow Leopard, but the pictures, which is the new image management application, is very different from any version of iPhoto.

Here is how to set the contrast and brightness manually if you do not like the automatic settings. Once you have selected a photo, click on the button change. You will see the column of tools appear on the right.
