Eliminate duplicate entries iTunes but keep metadata

So I accidentally deleted my iTunes media, but no biggie, because it's all backed up.  I dragged the backup directory (that is, just the files music and video) in iTunes.  Now I have two entries for each song in my library - one who has specific metadata (playcount, date added, etc.), but is a broken link and another entry that works, but doesn't have the metadata I want to keep.

I want to have is an application or a script that's going to associate the file linked in the new topic with the old entry and then remove the new entry.  Is there something like this?

I DON'T want to go and do it manually.  Nor do I want one of the many applications that will just delete the entries of dead link.

Is that maybe I could make an Applescript script for?  (I have some experience of programming, but have never messed with AppleScript).

Since you have a good backup, forget the library mess you created and just restore the whole iTunes folder. This will give you the files and metadata.

    Hi vbjnk,

    (a) are you referring to Windows Media Player? I would like to know if it is something else

    (b) this only happens with a particular album?

I suggest you try the following steps:

Step 1: Check the location of the file and delete the duplicate entry

    1. read the album; Right click on the item\file double and select Properties

    2. check the location of the file and you can remove the copy element

The player is followed by a file and replace your library entries that point to files in this folder. For example, you might have copied the files into a new folder but does not delete the original files in the folder in question.

To prevent the entries again added to your library

    1.

Delete or move the files in the folder in question

The monitor records is useful for automatically updating your library when the controlled media digital media files information. However, you must be careful to keep the list of files controlled by the player to date to avoid invalid entries in your library.

Step 3: Stop the entries in double or invalid to be added to my library when I play the music files

When you move digital media files on your computer, the file name and file path information remain unchanged in your library. Then when you select a file to play to its new location, a new entry is created in your library if you select the option automatically added to your library when played. As a result, your library can quickly contain a large number of entries, duplicate or invalid.

To prevent it be automatically added to your library of music files

    1.

In Windows Media Player, on theTools menu, clickOptions.

    2.

On the Player tab, clear the checkbox Add music files to library when played .

Note: Now, when you play music on your computer or the Internet, the file will not be added automatically to your library.

I realize, this is an old thread, but I hope someone is still reading.  We have the same problems since everyone upgrade to Windows 7.  However, when we disable or uninstall SMART virtual TabletPC and restart the computer, the device returns.  Not only she comes back, she keeps just multiplying so there are many listed devices. Is there a way to make it go away forever?

  • Application server: duplicate entries for the same machine in the screen "select a Mac".

The application Sever on one of my computers has several duplicate entries in the initial screen "choose a Mac" that appears just after the launch of the application server where you choose the particular Mac which you want to connect.

My server is in the local IP 10.0.0.5, but there are two entries for it in the list for a reason any, as you can see here:

I can choose is entered to connect without a problem. They seem to be legitimate duplicates. So I would like to remove one of them.

Does anyone know where these entries are stored in the file system, or how to remove one of them in the list?

You can manually edit the plist, or simply remove to rebuild the entire list:

Is it possible that I can connect on the same iTunes account to share our music, but keep our calendars, photos and contacts separate?  Currently, I have my own user account on the computer and I sync with iTunes, but it is not any music. If I put his music library in a shared folder that I have access on the two user accounts, can I delete everything on my phone to sync with the new iTunes library? I wouldn't delete all my apps and everything. Is there a better way to go about this? If it's important, we do not add music to our iTunes so it could be acceptable only for copying all music files once if it was the best way to ensure the rest of our things remain separated. • delete songs duplicate in iTunes 12.4.1?

    Hello

With the recent update to the iTunes player, version 12.4.0, I was unable to remove duplicate songs and can't find a way to do it. If Apple hid this feature, can someone update me with this information.

    Thank you

    Chris

Some menus have been reorganized in the latest iTunes.  I do not use the new iTunes, but since yours is the first post I've seen on this subject I think that to find duplicates feature is still there.

  • I have chosed on z Drive .itl file when opening iTunes but on Preferences always shows as CDrive.  Why?

I installed a new HARD drive in my PC as the C drive was full on the former.  I copied the iTunes folder and the Libra folder on drive C on the Z drive.  In preferences / advanced I had historically not ticked 'keep iTunes Library organized... '. "or"copy files to iTunes Media folder... ". "because I believe that when I installed everything first Libra on the machine instructions had told not to do.  However, all articles and youtube videos, I watched before installing the new HARD drive and try to move the library said that should check these boxes.

I tired to organize my library via iTunes but unfortunately was informed by the tha system it was not possible due to the fact that there are insufficeint space on the disk - is not a surprise because I think that this function copies the files instead of moving them, and that there are 200 GB of content there is no space on the C drive.

I finally found the correct .itl file to select - it was not easy for some reason, it wasn't in the Apple Lossless file, I put in place but rather the iTunes folder in the balance.

When I press SHIFT and open iTunes I then select choose library and go to the Z Drive (new HARD drive) and the file in the iTunes folder .til balance.  iTunes opens and everything seems to be there.  So far so good.

However, when I go to preferences / advanced and check the path of the file to the iTunes library and not be Z\Libra\iTunes, it is still C\Users\name\Music\Itunes\Apple Lossless.

Install the new drive Z was so I could delete the contents of the iTunes of the C drive to free up space.  I hesitate to hide drive C, until I'm 100% sure that iTunes is actually read data from the Z drive rather than the C drive.

Someone knows it why the file path is always displayed as C\Users... rather than Z\ and how can I confirm that it is the Z drive and not on the C drive which is accessed when I open iTunes.

See make a library of portable split.

Equip your active library files and folder work album Z:\iTunes.

Move the press inside the Z:\iTunes file and rename it as iTunes Media.

Shift-Start iTunes for you connect to Z:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.

See this master key to repair broken links:

The "missing file" error occurs if the file is no longer where iTunes is expected to find. Causes possible is that you or a third-party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the reader, he feeds has been a change to the drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from waiting for the files in the presentation of pre-iTunes 9 post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice versa, and so looking for a bit in the wrong place.

Select a track with an exclamation point, use Ctrl - I to get the information, and then click No when asked to try to locate the track. Look under the file tab for the location that iTunes thinks that the file should be. Now look around your hard drive. I hope you can locate the track in question. If a part of your library has just been moved, renamed a folder or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse actions. If the difference between the two railroads is an additional music directory in a path, then it is a problem of layout. I can explain more if this is the case. If everything is where it is supposed to be trying to fix the security permissions for iTunes for Windows.

In some cases, iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info, but this time, click on search and browse the lost track. Then, it can offer try to automatically correct the other broken links. Although he said something like 'use the same location' I think he expects to find titles in the same provision, artist / album, they were previously, with a systematic change to the path.

If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it difficult to restore media on the precise way that iTunes is expected. In this case, as long as the missing files somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script for reconnecting to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

If you want me to try to provide specific advice, please post back the following details:

    1. The location of the media file under Edit > Preferences > advanced
    2. The location of a sample of missing follow indicated under Get Info > file > location which begins file://localhost/
    3. The real path to the file which you gave 2 details.

  • New iPhone will not appear in iTunes, but old will

Only, I went to verizon and purchased the iPhone 6 s. I have the iPhone 5 s. I created a backup of 5s on my computer in iTunes (the latest version). I restored the iPhone 6 s at startup screen. Whenever I get to the screen saying connect to iTunes to restore the backup, nothing happens. The iPhone will appear in the post. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. Both phones are updated to the latest software. I noticed that the apple mobile hub is not displayed in the devices (Apple Mobile Device USB Driver), but the apple mobile program is installed. Uninstalling and reinstalling itunes was supposed to solve this problem, but didn't. The computer had some updates, but nothing to really what appeared to be related. Any help would be great! I'll try to go to the Apple store to transfer my phones data because it is too big for icloud, but I'll need later so that it can connect to iTunes. It is very odd that the 5s will connect and show, backup, etc in iTunes, but the 6s won't. I have windows 64xbit 10.

I tried to restart the computer, phone, etc.. I also tried to restart the apple mobile software and restarting. I also checked that there are only 3 associated devices, so it is not the limit of 10. Nothing appears in iTunes when I plug the phone in. even not an error message. Also whenever the phone is put in place and I plug it into the computer it asks only if I have will allow computer access the content on phones, but I don't get the message of "confidence".

He fixed it. The phone is now restore.

  • Eliminate duplicates while counting dates

    Hi all

Version: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0.

How to count the dates and eliminate duplicate dates.

    For example,.

    Name from Date to Date

    AAA 31/05/2014-06/13/2014

    AAA 14/06/2014 06/27/2014

    AAA 21/06/2014 07/20/2014

    AAA 21/07/2014 08/20/2014

    We want the output as,

    County of name not days

    AAA 14

    AAA 14

23 AAA (in this case must be eliminated 7 days from June 21, 2014-20/07/2014' because it is already counted dates previous ie.'06/14/2014 - 27/06/2014 '.) If we want the exit 23)

  • Report of guarantee with several duplicate entries

I seem to have a problem with the warranty on my Dell OME installation status.  Previously, I was running version 1.2.0 and I started noticing multiple entries for servers with less than 90 days of warranty remaining.  Initially there was a writing by contract of service by the server, so I'm used to seeing 2 inputs for each server.  However, the problem gradually snowballed to the point where now I see a report of 90 day warranty list entries in 1345, when OME only communicates with 94 servers, with only 9 servers who have reached the 90-day expiry period.

I performed the 1.2.1 update this morning, but the duplicate entries always appear in the report of the guarantee.  Using the troubleshooting tool, I am able to query the correct information of the API of warranty Dell, which leads me to believe that there may be some database entries that are not be cleaned.

Any ideas on how to clean these duplicates?  Is there something I can try the web console of OpenManage Essentials?

If this topic has been covered in another thread, can someone point me in the right direction?

If you are uncomfortable with performing queries on your database directly (AFTER making a backup), you can use SQL Server Manager (free) and delete the entries in the table of coverage. The table is re-filled when the report is run. Use the following SQL to clean the table.

    Remove from dbo.warranty

If you are not comfortable doing so, you can instead open a ticket and have the support guys review (800-945-3355).

    • Create a new table of contents and which merge in several places in the main table of contents. I use this to repeat several books with pages in several places. This allows me to use the menu once. I also use it to divide the appreciable chuncks main menu.

(I like SfW because it erases all the EXIF data (and I need for my customers to see all my exhibition/camera data), but it would be really useful to keep other things.)

    Hello darkflux88,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

I see that your iPad is recognized by iTunes, but not by the Windows 7 system. I have three support articles that relate to your problem. The first is more relevant for the iPad being not recognized by iTunes, but also contains information for the Windows operating system. The other two relate more directly to Windows does not recognize is not the iPad.

  • File appears in the folder iTunes but not iTunes itself

I am currently trying to add a ringtone on my iPhone 4 on iOS 9.3.5. As indicated in the title, I have a file in a folder iTunes but not iTunes itself. Specifically, my file appears in music > iTunes > iTunes Media > tones folder. He, however, is now appear in my playlist of ringtones in iTunes. As far as I know, I can not change any other my playlists, and whenever I try to drag things in my playlist of tones, nothing happens. My laptop runs on Windows 10, and I use iTunes 12.4.3.

If anyone has any ideas on how to solve this problem, it would be great.

iTunes shows that what was added for it, not anything that could be placed in the media files. Drag and drop this file in ...\iTunes\iTunes Media\Automatically add to iTunes. As it is a valid file your (AAC format with .m4r file and hard job) less than 40 seconds it should be brought back in the ringtones folder and added to the tones of your library section.
