ELITEBOOK 8440p: memory problem - the WIERDEST OF SYMPTOMS!

I can't understand this!

I have a 8440p (Core i5) Elitebook. It has 4 GB of memory (2 GB under keyboard and 2 GB in the expansion port under the flap on the bottom of the computer). It works fine like that for many years!

Recently, I became troubled windows of memory (blue screen, blocking, etc.), so I started studying.

  1. I took out the memory expansion module and it worked fine (computer total memory = 2 GB).
  2. I put it in backwards after the cleaning and back problems (computer total memory = 4GB).
  3. I took keyboard SODIMM memory and replaced by what was in the extension of memory, (computer total memory = 2 GB) - all very well worked.
  4. I then added the 2 GB that was originally in the memory of keyboard expanion memory (4 GB total) and same problem returned!

Does have any sense to anyone at all?

The only conclusion that I can do is:

  1. My two modules of memory work correctly.
  2. My expansion slot memory is faulty (no memory).

Anyone recognize?

PS my SODIMM memory have only 4 chips on each side (total 8). I think that it what is called 'high density' memory, but it's how the computer was delivered!

gocat9

I agree if she had not worked so well for so long the original high density modules. But now you can choose I would get low density for this new chip 4 GB. It is not that high density does not at all; on some models, it causes problems of comaptibility as wrong to interpret the ability or the refusal to run in dual channel.

  • HP EliteBook 8440p: memory modules RAM that actually work for HP EliteBook 8440p?

Hi everyone again. I scoured these forums and others and can't find a definitive answer to the upgrade of my RAM memory.

    My system:

    HP EliteBook 8440p

    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 M640

    Professional Win7 64 bit

    133 MHz bus clock

    BIOS: HP 68ccu, worm. F.11 (2010)

    Dual core, hyper-threaded (4)

    (?) Mobile Intel QM57 chipset

According to Belarc Advisor, I currently have a 4MB of RAM Samsung under the keyboard module. The second location is empty.  First of all, more memory RAM is not sold in the UK? I know that the computer is capable of 8 GB and the Kingston modules, I just tried to install were 4GB each.  Sticks of Kingston are 8 GB (2 x 4), PC3-10600, CL9, 1.5V, 204 pins SODIMM modules and they do NOT work on this laptop even if they should.

Has anyone found the secret of exactly which modules memory will work with this specific model of laptop? It is issues of density? Problems of tension? Am I missing a driver. I have to sing the thing while I install memory?

Seriously, any help at all will be appreciated.

    Hello:

Please read this thread, and I posted the memory you need to NewEgg if you live in the USA/Canada.

The 8440p uses the same memory as the 6550 b.

  • EliteBook 8440p memory upgrade problem

I have a 8440p with 2 GB installed, running Windows 7 32 bit (Yes, I know, this config sucks).

I want to get all of the 4 GB addressable with Win7/32 myself a 4 GB SODIMM thinking that later, if we ever 64-bit installed, I can go up to a massive 6 GB addressable immediately and have the option for 8 GB...

So when the 4 GB is installed in the Bay of belly, the machine starts fine, but go to the CP, it shows the 6 GB installed (fine) but only 2.92 GB usable (not so well). I was expecting something much closer to 4 GB addressable (for example 3.9 GB). Advanced Tools-Resource Monitor shows approximately the same (2.91 GB).

Having just updated i7 laptop Alienware my son to 32GB, I know that CP still show a slight deficit in GB usable, but not of 33.33%. I expect the used to be quite a bit closer to 4 GB to that.

Any ideas what could be causing this? Don't forget, I still have the original 2 GB in there and, Yes, please answer if you know the problem, rather that suggest I have delete the original SODIMM and try it (which will take a week until we can get a breakfix guy to do it, otherwise it will void the warranty, apparently).

Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Where are the memory slots on the HP Elitebook 8440p?

Hello, I have a HP EliteBook 8440p, with serial number: {deleted personal information} and the product number: SK119UC #ABA

I have 2 memory slots. 2x2gb for a total of 4 GB of system memory. I found one of the memory slots on the bottom of the laptop (there was a small picture of a ramstick). I would like to find another, but I don't know where he is, so I ask help on localization. It is the laptop that I have, I believe. http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/document.jsp?objectID=c02030597&prodSeriesId=409587...

And so the max RAM I can reach is 8GB and I would like to replace the current ramsticks with a 2 x 4 GB for a total of 8GB.

    Please and thank you!

  • memory of HP elitebook 8440p upgrade question

    Hi all

I have a quick question today, in fact I have a Hp Elitebook 8440p with core i5 and 2 GB of ram (samsung 2rx8 pc3-10600).

    and I am running windows 7 x 64 bit.

so I decided to upgrade memory up to 8 GB and I install 2 x 4 GB (matched pair) (hynix 1rx8 pc3-10600). but it does not work. won't start and loop. and if I put original samsung 2GB new then its job well...

I tried several times with all possible combinations, but it does not work. and if I go to the bios Setup, it shows 8 GB memory installed in it but can't get thorugh inside.

I wonder what the problem of 2rx8 and 1rx8? because my old 2rx8 obtained original and new obtained 1rx8 on that...

I'm really worried about it... Please help me soon... Thanks in advance

I can't say 100% for sure, but yes, I think that the number of chips of memory to the Board of Directors may indicate density.

The symptoms you describe indicate a problem of density to a "t".

Memory shows in the BIOS, but the PC refuses to work with her.

I suggested this to several others and cause when they bought the memory of lower density with 16 chips to the Board of Directors, their problem has been resolved.

  • EliteBook 8440p: problems of Expansion RAM HP 8440p

I recently decided to upgrade the memory on my EliteBook 8440p. After reading the form of RAM required, I bought one of these: http://www.ebuyer.com/737970-kingston-4gb-1333mhz-204-pin-cl9-ddr3-sodimm-non-ecc-unbuffered-1-5v-me...

Once the new RAM is installed in the expansion slot, Windows will not start and crashes just on screen "starting Windows." Then I tried a test of memory using the system BIOS diagnostic tool, but the laptop either hangs around 35% (I left it there for about two hours), restarts, or stops altogether. I thought that I would give to the system try, repair tool but which caused also just the laptop restart. Curiously, when I check the "System information" tab the system diagnostics, the two RAM sticks are detected with current and accurate information.

I contacted eBuyer, they sent a replacement out there, but I'm having the same problem again. So, I thought I would try to install new RAM in the internal slot instead (under the keyboard), but now I have a BSOD during the 'Starting Windows' screen, give me code error, "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

I read on some forums tech upward. One of them suggested runs what is called 'Memtest' at startup via the CD, I tried, but the laptop restarts only during the first passage of the test of memory (and of course some loops over and over again until I remove the CD).

I'm starting to lose hope! Any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello:

See this related post.  You must use a very specific memory in this model, or it won't work.

  • EliteBook 8440p: increase the dedicated vram

    Hello

I would really appreciate if someone could tell me how to increase my vram dedicated on my laptop.

I have a 8440p with windows installed 10 EliteBook.  He and card Intel(r) HD Graphics (Core i5). I know it's a memory shared, and I can't change, however when I open the BIOS I can not find where I can change it. Currently, there are only 64 MB dedicated vram.

So if anyone could tell me where and how I could increase in the BIOS it I would really appreciate it.

    EliteBook 8440p

    Intel(r) HD Graphics (Corei5)

    Hello @GameGeneral,

This has been asked several times before. Unfortunately, you cannot change the vram dedicated on this configuration. You won't find anything in the bios settings HP to do. The system should increase the allocated memory dynamically if she need the RAM in the system, even if it is not as good a vram dedicated to games.

    I'm sorry.

  • Please tell me if the laptop HP Elitebook 8440p can be upgraded to 64-bit

I currently have a portable 32-bit HP Elitebook 8440p, running Windows 7. I was wondering if I could upgrade to 64 - bit, so I can actually use more RAM than only 2.98 GB. Please say that I can, I would be so happy. I'm not 100% sure if this is the phone I have, but I think it might be, not sure. http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/document.jsp?objectID=c02030597&prodSeriesId=409587...
Is my product number: SK119UC #ABA if this is of no use.

    Hello:

You can run a 64 bit in any laptop Elitebook 8440p with material to any configuration OS comes with.

If you live in the United States, call HP at this number - 1-800-334-5144 and ask the W7 64 bit recovery discs and it won't cost you $10 if your cell phone is no longer in warranty.

You will need to have the serial number at hand.

  • EliteBook 8440p: supports the elitebook 8440p

OK so we (my father and me & anyone else) are repairing an Elitebook 8440p for my father and I wonder even if the elitebook 8440p does not support windows 10 - it does support windows 8/8.1?

I ask only because my father gave me 2 licenses and I was wondering if the elitebook 8440p support windows 8/8.1 cause then I can give 1 license while my lenovo has another

-cause the way that I see - if it does not support windows 10 then at least it would support windows 8 or 8.1 lowest

so the question - it's officially support or is there a list of the devices supported for windows 8/8.1?

    Hello:

All I can tell you is that there is no official support from the W10 by HP drivers for the 8440p.

I have the model that preceded the 8440p (the 6930p) and it works fine W10.

Mine doesn't have a webcam, and I do not like the fingerprint reader security features, so I can't report on these devices.

All the drivers are installed but in Device Manager, and I used the drivers for W7 for everything what has not installed W10, such as the card reader and HP 3D driveguard.
