EliteBook memory 8540p

Hello

I got a 4 GB Memory Module of Kingston, which corresponds to the specifications for the memory of the EliteBook 8540p. But when I install it, the laptop will not start.

What is the problem?

Kind regards

Patrick

Hello

The next vendor guarantees that the RAM works:

http://www.crucial.com/EU/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/EliteBook/EliteBook+8540p+%28Quad+core+processors%29-upgrades.html

It uses 1.35v RAM from 1.35 to 1.5 is 10% difference. Also, have you read the fine print: "NOTE: this table represents all possible memory configurations." The standard nature not industrial, some third-party modules of memory, we strongly recommend to use only HP marked modules of memory for compatibility... »

Kind regards.

We have several Elitebook laptops 8440p, 8460p and 8570p computers.  All are Win10 64 bit.    I am wanting to upgrade RAM on several of them, and I know the 8400's use a clock speed different (1333) than does the 8570 (1600).  But can I use a stick of 8 GB for example, instead of a pair of 4 GB sticks?  What I have to spread out the RAM or can I use the single stick?  Is there an advantage to a configuration or another?   No matter what RAM slot it going in?

The Dell that I used to run were verrrry picky on do not use 8 GB without having both slots filled (2x4gb).   Is HP in the same way?  Thank you!!

  • EliteBook 2540p: Elitebook memory 2540p

The 2540p does support RAM at 1600 mhz or 1333 is the max, that he can use?

    Maybe a few things...

    1. the memory is wrong density (a 4 small black memory on each side of the circuit board instead of 8).

    2. bad blood (1.35v instead of 1, 5V).

    3. isn't backward compatible all the way back to 1066 MHz.

    4. defective but I highly doubt that the chips are bad.  It would be a few ugly QC.

I got this laptop, now, my mother uses it.

It can operate up to 1920 x 1200 on VGA or HDMI external display.

    Tested it myself.

Maybe, it can run even higher resolution.

VGA has supposedly limitless resolution and HDMI 1.4 can run up to 4 k resolutions.

Do not know if the laptop supports higher resolutions of 1920 x 1200.

    Hello

It seems that your memory card needs to be replaced:

Please go to the Page from the HP Support

    http://h20566.www2.HP.com/portal/site/hpsc

Enter the name of the product

    HP elitebook 8540p

Service manual (page 68) provides instructions on how to replace the memory card.

It also provides the spare HP part # you can order

  • EliteBook 8540p: upgrade memory from 4 GB to 8 GB

    Hello.

For the moment, I use memory 2 x 2 GB strips with my elite book but want to switch to 2 x 4 GB.

I know that my laptop is supported (only) PC3-10600 / memory at 1333 MHz, but I wonder if I still can't use more quick PC3-12800 / 1600 modules MHz but only gain rate supported, or is it takes exactly PC3-10600 / 1333 MHz modules?

I can change some values in the BIOS if it recognizes the fastest memory modules but works at the speed of support or should I rather get the 'right' modules and forget them faster?

    Hello

I would get a few modules of 1333 MHz (recommend Corsair). We cannot change everything related to memory in the BIOS.

  • EliteBook 8540p: I have no driver or registration for memory card reader in Device Manager

There is no registration for my memory card reader in Device Manager. The card reader does not work. SD card works in my other PC. Tried to download the Driver Ricoh Media Card Reader suggested by HP Support, with no results. It's as if there is no such thing as the card reader. Is there a way to shake the player in a localizable device? Or is it dead material?

    Hello:

If there is that no device Base system not listed in Device Manager in need of drivers, then the unit is completely dead/disconnected from the motherboard.

I'm not a PC repair in commerce or training technology, and there are no diagrams of the motherboard I know to see how the circuit card reader is attached to the Board of Directors.

If you look at Chapter 4, pp 93-94's service manual, it seems that you can replace all separately.

  • HP Elitebook 8540p: upgrade of RAM HP 8540p

    Hello

I have a very special, HP Elitebook 8540p, running Windows 10 pro 64 bit on a processor intel i7 640 M dual core, and I'm confused as to the amount of RAM I can upgrade to.  I read that it can vary from 8 GB to 16 GB and beyond. My laptop has only two memory card capacity. The type of RAM cards are 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM.

Any help would be fantastic. I'm trying to update my RAM to support the software of CAD 3D, which requires a minimum of 8 GB of ram, but I would like a little more if I could.

    Hello

A table on page #16, your machine has only 2 slots so its 8 GB strips of RAM DDR3 Physclally Max supports are the same (pins, length,...).

  • Slot of RAM missing in EliteBook 8540p

I need help to understand if I have been cheated.

In my case, I have 4 GB installed in my EliteBook 8540p and it is only on the memory module connector.

Recently, I planned to upgrade to 8 GB and that I have to install both modules to 4 GB (a location is limited to 4 GB) but I do not have a physical location.

In the specification of the 8540 is written that there must be two or SODIMM four slots support dual channel memory.

In my EliteBook 8540p there is one.

    Is there a solution?

The module slot and soDimm primary memory is located under the keyboard. You have found the location of memory expansion module.

You will need the Service & maintenance guide to use as a reference.

  • HP EliteBook 8440p: memory modules RAM that actually work for HP EliteBook 8440p?

Hi everyone again. I scoured these forums and others and can't find a definitive answer to the upgrade of my RAM memory.

    My system:

    HP EliteBook 8440p

    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 M640

    Professional Win7 64 bit

    133 MHz bus clock

    BIOS: HP 68ccu, worm. F.11 (2010)

    Dual core, hyper-threaded (4)

    (?) Mobile Intel QM57 chipset

According to Belarc Advisor, I currently have a 4MB of RAM Samsung under the keyboard module. The second location is empty.  First of all, more memory RAM is not sold in the UK? I know that the computer is capable of 8 GB and the Kingston modules, I just tried to install were 4GB each.  Sticks of Kingston are 8 GB (2 x 4), PC3-10600, CL9, 1.5V, 204 pins SODIMM modules and they do NOT work on this laptop even if they should.

Has anyone found the secret of exactly which modules memory will work with this specific model of laptop? It is issues of density? Problems of tension? Am I missing a driver. I have to sing the thing while I install memory?

Seriously, any help at all will be appreciated.

    Hello:

Please read this thread, and I posted the memory you need to NewEgg if you live in the USA/Canada.

The 8440p uses the same memory as the 6550 b.

    Y ' All sup

A few months ago, I installed a bios update for my HP Elitebook 8540p.  After the update, the PC started trolling, so I tried to restart the PC.  Instead of reboting, all the lights turn on (except for the light of the HARD drive), and the CAPS lock flashes indefinitely.  I have serached tirelessly for a response to the restoration of the bios.   Tried to remove the CMOS battery, draining the power of the PC and also tried to start the update of the Bios of the page files produced here.

But the situation is still the same

  • memory of HP elitebook 8440p upgrade question

    Hi all

I have a quick question today, in fact I have a Hp Elitebook 8440p with core i5 and 2 GB of ram (samsung 2rx8 pc3-10600).

    and I am running windows 7 x 64 bit.

so I decided to upgrade memory up to 8 GB and I install 2 x 4 GB (matched pair) (hynix 1rx8 pc3-10600). but it does not work. won't start and loop. and if I put original samsung 2GB new then its job well...

I tried several times with all possible combinations, but it does not work. and if I go to the bios Setup, it shows 8 GB memory installed in it but can't get thorugh inside.

I wonder what the problem of 2rx8 and 1rx8? because my old 2rx8 obtained original and new obtained 1rx8 on that...

I'm really worried about it... Please help me soon... Thanks in advance

I can't say 100% for sure, but yes, I think that the number of chips of memory to the Board of Directors may indicate density.

The symptoms you describe indicate a problem of density to a "t".

Memory shows in the BIOS, but the PC refuses to work with her.

I suggested this to several others and cause when they bought the memory of lower density with 16 chips to the Board of Directors, their problem has been resolved.
