encrypted file conversion issues

My computer recently crashed and has been reinstalled windows xp. (with the help of technical assistance) Now, I can't open pdf files. (on the internet) When I try to open a form known to IRS, word 2007 tries to open it. A box appears asking what to use; (html, word5, plain text, ext...) No matter what I want, when it opens, all that is there are a lot of numbers. I think that something is missing from the installation. Any help? Thank you.

Kenneth Britt

Looks like you need to install a PDF reader. It is not part of Windows. The most common is Adobe Reader, you can get the Adobe website . Other free PDF readers are Foxit and PDFXchange . MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Pptx to PDF conversion issues - images disappear or showing only in pieces

Recently, I have my pptx to PDF files conversion problems.  I'm on Windows 7, Powerpoint 2007 and have tired both Acrobat 10.1.2 than Acrobat 9.5.

When I choose Save PDF of PowerPoint, it publishes, BUT many of these images (created with powerpoint with shapes and clip art) disappear from the PDF file.  Some of my pptx files have been converted without problem (using the combination of pptx & Acrobat 10.1.2) - However, if I come back in a do even a simple change (even to the text) it will NOT convert to PDF with precision - once more images will be missed and I get an error message.

I tried to fix my Acrobat - which did not change the results. I also tried to go to an earlier version of Acrobat reader, and that no longer works.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat, restarted my computer - etc.

I'm at a bit of loss - since I have not had problems in the past?  This question seems recent - in the last two months.

Any ideas where I could watch or what else I could try?

Thank you very much for your ideas!

    HI Bill,

I work with Acrobat - not a 3rd party.  Maybe I'm missing something but my Word and Powerpoint 2007 do NOT have the option of printing to the Adobe PDF printer - it is NOT listed or available (I think from my research that Microsoft has more than a provision to issue with Adobe?).  The ONLY way I can find to create a PDF file (by Adobe) of Word and Powerpoint 2007 is the Save as function.  The MS Plugin was for the function "save under"-I have that already have in place.

This problem is recent... I have created a complete PDF of the document photographed above there are a few iterations.  The only changes that I made to the document were changes in texts... I then went to save in PDF format and this time... you see the result... pieces of missing images.  I wonder if there is a bug or something is the most recent update of Adobe Reader 10.1.2?  Or if there is somewhere else I should be looking to try to resolve the problem.

Thank you very much for your ideas!

  • iBooks/iCloud problem: all the books transformed into "encrypted files".

I recently downloaded all my iBook (files PDF and epub files) on the iCloud / iDrive with the iBook on my iPad app. Many worked for awhile, but when I tried to use iBooks after a few weeks of inactivity, none of my downloaded iBooks were visible in iBooks. I looked in the iDrive and there is a section of iBooks, that seems to have all my old iBook (15 GB) files, but each file appears as "Encrypted File". I have no idea on how to decrypt these files so that I can use them again.

The iBooks interface displays only the empty shelves.

I don't know what triggered this loss of all my books. Anyone have an idea how I could recover my books?

Overall, I must say that I am very disappointed with the whole iCloud / iDrive system. It took an eternity to download files, the data transfer is extremely slow and I'm not even able to download iBooks from my PC to the iCloud. I have much better experiences with Google Drive or Dropbox, which operate in a transparent way through everything, platform. I guess that the iCloud / iDrive works only in an all-Apple configuration

I have the same problem too, all my files epub in the ibooks app disappeared after I have sync my iphone on icloud drive and when I checked the ibooks on my icloud storage it appears as "encrypted file.

    Help, please!

  • Cannot encrypt files with fingerprint reader

I just bought a Toshiba E105-s1602 and I can't find a way to encrypt files and folders with fingerprint reader.
I use it to connect to the computer and in the instructions it says just right click on the file and there should be something that says encrypt or something similar, but I have no option to do with encryption.

Does anyone know how to use it, I do something wrong?

    Thank you

AFAIK this option depends on software pre-installed. I'm not 100% sure, but Toshiba offers two different applications for this application.
If this option is not available then this option is not available with pre-installed application.

  • What is a file conversion utility?

    Hey,.

I was wondering if anyone knows what a file conversion utility is and how it works?

I searched on the internet but still not found an answer.

    Thank you Megan :)

A file conversion Utility is a specialized application that open many types of files and allows the user to convert the file to another type.

A good example on a Macintosh computer, computer is graphics converter that will open any type of converter, jpg200, png, gif, pdf and files jpg graphics it to different versions.

Let's say you have a drawing in gif, jpg, or png format and you want to convert to PDF to be merged into an existing to say PDF.   You would open this file in its original format. On Mac you use Save as and choose PDF, click OK. A copy of the file will be a PDF file.

I explain this in terms of Macintosh, because that's what I use. I am sure that there is equality Converter utility on UNIX, Linux or PC widows and the formulation of the commands will be different. But the principle works the same.

Most applications such as database, spreadsheet, word processing. Graphics program all have limited capacity to convert to different formats. But a converter or a conversion utility has a lot more rich capabilities.

  • Decrypt encrypted files and records who have done in Win XP Pro, but now we want to decrypt in Win 7 Pro.

Hi, please advise me that how can I decrypt my encrypted files and folders now since I got them when I was with Win XP Pro and after all of a sudden my Win XP Pro crash and the installation of Win 7 Pro? I mean, now I use now Win 7 Pro in the lap top, it had Win XP Pro and I did an encryption my files and folders at this time.

    Please notify.

    Thanks & regards in advance

It will never ask for the encryption keys. Whenever an encrypted file/folder is created, the keys are also created and stored safely in the system. At any time, you can take a backup of the keys (you need, as you cannot decrypt it without the keys).

  • How can I transfer encrypted files from old hard drive removed (transfer windows easy?)

    Hello

I'm trying to get some files off my old hard drive encrypted. He has xp on it, and I can't start on my new computer. Since it is a separate, apparently, I can't do either windows easy transfer. Is it possible for me to locate the certificate and key, or to transfer files with the key and the certificate on my new computer (I have password from the old computer if I need that)? Can I somehow run WET on this hard drive for keys/certificates can be transferred. This seems to be a common problem from what I have read.
Otherwise, do you have ideas on how to start my old xp disk on my new system without reformatting?
Very important to get these files.
    Thank you!

First of all, I assume you mean encrypted files (EFS, Encrypting File System).  These files are encrypted with a key that is still encrypted in your system like a certificate.  In order to read your encrypted on any other system files, you must restore the certificate from a backup.  The short article is mandatory for anyone considering the use of EFS:

  • Is there a way to recover the EFS encrypted files stored on an external drive without the origianl certificate?

Is there a way to recover the EFS encrypted files stored on an external drive without the original of the certificate?

I had photos/files stored on an external drive and have been encrypted with EFS in XP. The main drive crashed, all keys have been lost. Got a new main drive, installed the new OS and now can't access encrypted files.

Unless you can retrieve parts of your old drive or have a backup of your encryption certificate, you have probably lost all of your encrypted data.  Recovery agents work only if they are in place when the file/folder is initially encrypted.  A program like AEFSDR might be able to resurrect your old certificate from your old drive if it is readable at all.  If you plan to use EFS in the future, make sure you read the following article the court - particularly paragraph entitled "why you should back up your certificates.

  • How to decrypt previously encrypted files when the certificate is lost

I've already posted a question and received a response. I would now like to make additional comments on what I said in my previous question. Maybe I used the wrong term and said "my computer crashed." In fact the computer has successfully started as always, so I restarted for some reason, but this time, he was able to start, displaying "NTLDR is missing". Press CTR + ALT + DEL is not started the computer. I have do not reformat the hard disk, but simply to insert the CD of the OS to set up the operating system on the existing system. As part of the implementation, I did inadvertently in my name, when asked "who uses this computer" so I became a Director. In the previous original set-up the built-in administrator is the only Director; my name appeared as a user. Now when I check the local users in the Computer Management Console the built-in Administrator, the only Admin previously, and myself ERHAN KARABEKIR are displayed as properties for each user and users lists each of the two as a member of administrators. I want to come is I think I hope the previous built-in administrator could somehow be recovered. Am I too optimistic? Today, I disconnected to switch users, hoping that the built-in administrator would appear as a user so that I could open a session to be able to decrypt the files and folders encrypted. Unfortunately, he did not show I've been to ERHAN KARABEKIR, my present administrator account. Previously, the administrator displayed in users in the Panel was 'Administrator' and the guest account, without any name. I bought the computer with an operating system already installed. Now, my name is displayed as "administrator of the computer. Sorry for the long explanation.

If you are lucky enough to make the administrator account is the original account whose profile includes the certificate required to access the encrypted files, then simply connect to your computer as 'administrator '.  You will not be able to see the administrator account on the logon screen if you have created another account.  To connect as an administrator, when you get to the login screen, hit Ctrl-Alt-Del twice.  You can then type "Admin" in user space and the password in the password space and log in as an administrator.

    Good luck

  • How to upgrade the already encrypted files on the USB HDD with new XP Recovery certificate

I backed up the files encrypted in My Documents on a USB drive on which these files are also encrypted state. My computer crashed so I reinstalled the operating system. I wanted to send records encrypted USB HD to my computer or tried to copy projecteurDu and paste them into My Documents. I could not do this because I got "an error occurred in the application...". access privilegesDo i., access is denied. "I created a new recovery certificate and put in place a recovery agent. From there how I update the previously encrypted files on th USB HDD with the new recovery certificate? I'd appreciate a step by step procedure. Can I select the USB drive in the command line and run cipher/u on this drive or make the command/u of encryption on the computer without connecting to the USB HDD

Sorry to say that my bet is that you never gain access to these files again.

When you created the files encrypted, Windows creates a key for decryption to access these files and stored, encrypted in your certificate store.  When your system crashed, the decryption key has crashed with it.  Without this key, you will never have access to your encrypted files.  If you have recovered from a backup image-style, you should be able to access these files.  If you've recovered by installing Windows from the installation disc, then you have created a new and different installation with different Secure ID (SID) and a certificate store empty.  A recovery agent will only retrieve encrypted files that were created after that recovery agent was in place - as a new certificate.  What you really need to do, it's your old certificate to restore the backup that you created when you started using EFS.  The following article is mandatory for anyone using the EFS file system.  Special attention to the paragraph entitled "why you should back up your certificates.

"Best Practices for encrypting file system"

If you do not have a return to the top of your certificate, then things look dark.  There is a program called "AEFSDR' whose 'professional' version comes through what has not been overwritten on your hard drive in search of remains of certificates that could be delivered together to recover.

    Good luck

  • I have encrypted files on my backup drive. Install the user on the status of CA for access? How?

How should I keep my new user well that store the same name and all that stuff? If I can access encrypted files?

If you do not back up your certificate, then you must connect to your machine using the original profile/user who created the encrypted files.  Then, you should back up your encryption certificate.  Then, log in as a new user and import that certificate into the backup that you created.  It is covered in the following Microsoft KB article.  Pay attention to the paragraphs "Why you should back up your certificates" and "how to back up your certificates.  If you cannot connect as the creator of the encrypted files and/or do not have a backup of the certificate, probably you have lost access to these files permanently.

  • Impossible to decrypt encrypted files from the previous installation of Windows

original title: decrypt the new windows file encrypted aftre

I have a problem with decrypt file tha I ecrypt under windows and now my c: partition is formatted and my encrypted data cannot be decrypted

Note: I use this method for encryption

    1. Right click on the file that you want to encrypt, and then click Properties.

    2. Click the general tab and then click Advanced.

    3. Select encrypt it the contents of the box to secure the data, click OK, and then click OK again.

You can solve this problem for me

If you encrypted the files/folders and transfer them to a new installation of XP, you can only decrypt using your original installation of XP encryption key.

If this is the case, the key to decrypt these files was managed by Windows as a certificate in your certificate from your original installation store. These certificates are, in turn, encrypted to your Secure ID, your password and many other things.

This information would be lost on a new XP installation.

The easy way to restore access to your files is to restore your certificate from the backup that you have conscientiously performed pursuant to subsection 'Why you should back up your certificates' in the article:

"Best practices for EFS file system.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/223316/en-us

If you don't have a copy of your certificate, then you need to restore your old system from a backup connection, image-style and then retrieve your certificate.

Otherwise, your data is history.  EFS is very secure and there is no back door.

Because the instructions for encryption are often never read, understood and followed or the importance of backing up certificates
is not followed or understood, the EFS was affectionately known as the 'delay of trash. "

Allegedly, you may be able to hire a person specializing in the recovery of encrypted files to try to help you. Do not guess what the problem might be - understand and resolve it. I need YOUR voice and the points for helpful answers and propose responses. I'm saving for a pony!
