End of 2008 MBP 15 inch 2.4 Ghz SSD disorders!

I've really hit a wall with this and was wondering if its worth even more of my money and time or if I should return the SSD I bought & just save for a Mac Mini. I used a Sandisk 960 GB SSD (which since I traded for a 960 GB PNY because Sandisk appears that 120 GB after having formatted SEVERAL times). Problem is now the PNY will not boot the OS when plugged into my computers sata port. I can do it on an external box, but when it comes of it working in cable SATA Mbps, it is to be dead in the water or restarts constantly. I managed to do start ONCE but the programs would not stay open. (you mind my 1 TB Samsung Spinpoint drive starts VERY WELL even if it's a 5400 RPM HARD drive tray which is where all my files, etc are that I also have important things, copied on a 1 TB Seagate external drive). I did some research and I have a strong hunch is maybe that my Sata cable is bad (although I've run AHT and everything came to work in a quick and extended test), found a site online that sells used cables for cheap but at this point, I wonder if his same worth going too far into it. (I am also under a 14 days policy back to BestBuy where the SSD Exchange has been made) Any ideas on what I should do?

Thank you very much

Dennis Z

Replace the SATA cable.  The symptoms you describe are a common phenomenon where the HARD drive works internally and the SSD will not.

I would try to get a NEW cable.  Used may have the same problem as your current has.

Ciao.

  • MBP 17 inch 2.5 GHz end 2011 video-questions

    Good day to you all.

    Confusion serious, for me anyway.

There are and have had problems with the AMD Radeon HD 6750 M and HD 6770 M graphics cards. Suddenly distorted video, random reboots, odd shaped and colored stalls artefarcts etc., in the start of the end.

I happen to have one of those affected Mbps, a late 2011 model, 17-inch core i7, 2.5 GHz, the model identifier MacBookPro8, 3, model number A1297, EMC 2564. It's still fully usable, nothing wrong, but who could, not necessarily expected or, will come to an abrupt end as many owners, some of my friends have known and display these columns.

The site of Apple "MacBook Pro repair Extension program for video Issues" (https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/), I learned:

    products concerned:

    • models of MacBook Pro 15 inch and 17 inch made in 2011.

    • MacBook Pro 15 inch with retina models made from mid-2012-beginning 2013

I walked to my S/N MBP, it turns out that my MBP is no longer covered.

MacTracker 7.5.5 I learn that the MBP A1297 introduced in October 2011 and abandoned by June 2012.

Repair of Apple (for models non-retine) program talks about the models made in 2011.

My question: how about the models made between January and June, 2012?

Something has been changed or modified in order to get rid of the problems of graphics cards? Something like, say, update motherboard, graphics, a radiator, redesigned, more powerful fans?

For me, it's quite confusing, via this link www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html, I discovered that my MBP 17 inch out of the Assembly line the 5th week of 2012, factory C0, Quanta Computer China. I'm not the first buyer, I don't know who it was, or when it was first purchased.

What I worry, in other words is my MBP 'off-the-hook '?

Could someone shine some light in this?

With sincere greetings from continental Europe

The original questions developed in some 2010 models with integrated graphics discrete AND who uses graphics switching. These have proved to finally have a DEFAULT MONSTER - a defect in the graphics chip itself. The problem was there from the moment when they were built, but itself has failed, until these Macs have been highlighted or installed the latest versions of Mac OS X.

In order to determine what was causing the growing pile of bad mothers replaced the field, Apple has developed the video switching Test (VST).

Trying to continue studying these issues, other issues appeared in some 2011 models. These were not the same hidden defects in the chips, but Apple has never revealed exactly what they were.

Some users suggested that they might have been problems with the excessive heat generated or process, such as the exact used solder type, or the amount the technique with which it has been applied, or all of this and more. You must be certain that all relevant updates have been applied, (if any) that these may affect cooling fan control.

When you see a reminder that is limited to a certain period of time, you can generally be assured that if your Mac does not fall within the time limits stipulated it is simply NOT submitted the issues addressed in the callback.

To be eligible for the reminder, your Mac must strictly comply with ALL requirements. It is a very small subset of users whose MacBook Pro of the time period appropriate have additional problems and will not start. They are NOT eligible for the free motherboard replacement, because they can not run (and therefore may not) the VST test.

  • Best OS for a MacbookPro, end of 2008?

What is the best OS for a MacbookPro, end of 2008?

    It depends on your use.

For OSX 1088 and earlier browsers are is more updated to fix security vulnerabilities

The onver of Mavericks and later versions are still.

You Mac can run and including El Capitan, but not of Sierra.

Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan is not in the Mac App Store. If you previously download them you can always redownload them via the purchase of the Mac App Store

You can buy codes to download for Lion and Mountain Lion

  • End of 2008 Mac SSD & RAM Upgrade

    Hi all

I have a Macbook 13-inch, aluminum, late 2008. This is the 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with 2x2gb DDR3 1067 MHz Kington.

I'm currently under OSX 10.9.5. My Version of boot ROM: MB51.007D.B03.

I would like to change the current drive with a 512 GB SSD Crucial. Someone of you have encountered problems with SSD Crucial on this particular Mac?

When I initially swapped to the Kington 2 GB RAM, I read that 4 GB is the max for this model at this time. Recently, I did some more research and found 8 GB might be supported if you a particular firmware. http://blog.MacSales.com/9102-secret-firmware-lets-late-08-MacBooks-use-8gb

Im looking at buying Crucial 8 GB Kit (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 - 1066 SODIMM memory for Mac. http://www.crucial.com/USA/en/ct2k4g3s1067m

I've read some people have had problems with 2 x 4 GB and used a config 1x2GB and 1x4Go. However, the post is about 3-4 years.

Once I update to SSDS and the Rams I intend to update the current firmware. Should I face any problem as soon as I update to El legend with the Rams and the SSD upgrade?

    I appreciate all the comments.

    Mike

There is no problem to occur as far as I understand your plan except that it is much more fast MacBook Pro you expect!

You should get 2.5 external HDD Enclosure also inches so that you can make drive bootable with Carbon Copy clone or SuperDuper clone!

  • How to replace the hard drive with an SSD on a model of end 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch, A1286

    Hello

I would like to replace the hard drive on my model of end 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch, A1286 with a disk solid state drive (SSD). First of all, I would like to know if this is possible. Second, what is the best way to do it? I'm under the Yosemite OS if that makes a difference.

Here are some technical details of my current system:

-MacBook Pro 15 inch, late 2011 model A1286

    -OS yosemite

    -16 GB of memory/RAM

    -Currently using stock HD

All instructions step by step would be helpful with what software should I use to make backups of my current operating system (e.g., SuperDuper). I would also like to know what tools or material I need like type of screwdriver, cables to transfer data to the SSD, etc.. My goal is to not have to reinstall each app one by one on the SSD, but if that's the only way to do it then it's okay.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can see instructions OWC here. Tools are mentioned in the discussion (I used a plastic knife picnic with the stronger edge somewhat blunt for nylon pry tool). I suggest you invest in one of these external fences. Install the SSD in who and clone internally externally with CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper. Then move the external drive of the internal drive after the start of the SSD in the external to confirm the operation.

You can check the software (Adobe Flash Professional CS6) will work on my Apple MacBook 13.3 inch 1.83 GHz - MA254LL/A, A1181 (chart below)? I can't match the requirements of the plug.

Adobe Flash Professional CS6 configuration required:

    • Intel multi-core processor
    • Mac OS X 10.6.8 or v10.7. Adobe Creative Suite 5, 5.5, and CS6 applications support Mac OS X Lion mountains (v10.8) when it is installed on Intel based predecesseurs.* *.
    • 2 GB of RAM (3 GB recommended)
    • 4 GB of disk space available for installation. additional space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)

    • Java 1.6 runtime environment
    • DVD-ROM drive
    • QuickTime 7.6.6 software required for multimedia features
    • This software will not work without activation. Broadband Internet connection and registration are required for activation of the software, the validation of subscriptions and online access to services * the phone activation is not available.

    Apple MacBook 13.3 inch 1.83 GHz (MA254LL/A, A1181) specifications:

    • Processor: 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo
    • CPU speed: 1.83 GHz

  • MBP 13 inch end 2011got very slow after update OSX 10.11

After the update my Mac OS X 10.11.6, it has become very slow (wheel that rotates all the time). It's not just Safari (in fact I stopped to use it), but the overall performance of my Mac.  I ran firstaid OSX and Onyx, but nothing solves this problem.  Any help, please?

MacBook Pro 13-, end 2011, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HD, 250 GB free

Slow performance after an upgrade are often because of incompatible software. Make sure that all your applications are up to date.

  • MBP mid-2010 (15-inch, 2.53 GHz, i5) unexpected reboot of the system of dynamic switching map chart

Hi there, I've never had this problem when I bought my MBP in 2010, but after the problem with unexpected reboots of El Capitan passage has become more common and is really affecting the productivity of my laptop.

For clarity, here's my cell phone information:

    MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid 2010)

Processor: Intel Core i5 2.53 GHz to

    Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

    Graphics card:

integrated - Intel HD Graphics 288 MB

    discreet - NVIDIA GeForce GT 330 M 256 MB

I ran the the Apple Hardware Test with no problems found. After looking on the forums and identifying the problem I installed gfxCardStatus to keep the graphics card using only internally, however, some programs force the use of Nvidia, which translates as the unexpected restarts.

You have the MacBookPro6, 2 - the Edsel of Mac. There may be the failure of logic-board that was covered by a recall program that is now complete.

The model was abandoned in February 2011. From five years from this date, it will be classified by Apple as "vintage product." This means that Apple will refuse probably a maintenance action (see exceptions on the linked page.) In this case, you will need to go to an independent service provider. The part can be is no longer available, or the repair may not be profitable.

An appointment of 'Genius' in an Apple Store, or go to a different service provider authorized, to have the tested machine. Diagnoses of current equipment used by service providers don't detect the fault. There is a specific test for the same problem that Apple calls "VST" (for "video switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the defect is present.

You may be quoted a price of about $350 (in the United States) for a "repair," which is to send the unit to a repair shop central and lasts about two weeks. For this package, found nothing wrong with it should be fixed, not only the logic board.

Sometimes, the spare part is also faulty, so be prepared for this eventuality. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, rigorously test during the 90 day warranty on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went up to three replacement boards before you get one that worked.

If you don't want to pay for the repair, you may (or may not) be able to work around the problem by disabling automatic switching graphics. To use the separate graphics processor, you will need a third-party utility to manually switch to him.

Often, the problems start after an upgrade of the OS. If the upgrade has been recently, and you have backups, you can then go back to a previous version of OS X.

  • end of 2011 MBP close

    Hi all

I have a 2011 end mbp, 10.9.5, which began to turn down when the power supply cord. I can put it to sleep and move it, then plug it back, so the closure is not immediate. my battery is the original one, but the sys info app says the condition is normal. I have reset the PRAM and MSC, it seems to work, but not for more than a minute or two.

question: even if the sys info app says battery is normal, can be wrong sometimes?

(either way, apple replaced 2 weeks ago the card logical under warranty I don't think it's connected, but may be.)

I'd be happy to buy a new battery (such as the technology more recent one) and see if that helps, but with the sys info app saying normal battery, I don't know if that would help. thoughts? pasted the battery below report (why o why paste from info sys app not working?):

I have a MBP of 2011 as well late, and I replaced the logic myself aboard there is not long.

And then I had to replace the battery as well... after a few questions.

I suggest to replace the battery, it MUST be fried at this point.

By fried I mean old, old way.

Genius Bar can do some specific tests, which will fail if the battery needs to be replaced.

It's the only way you can know for sure...

Re-start works, but only for a minute. system report states that, whatever it is the air out here? Sounds like a battery problem, I'm on the original battery, but I thought battery would just shrink, not just stop working.

  • Upgrade memory to the end of 2011 MBP

Please can someone advise what is the maximum memory possible for a MBP (late 2011 model) 17IN.  Thank you

If Apple says that 8 GB of RAM, RAM manufacturers have found THST 16 GB of RAM will be accepted.  My two Mbit/s by the end of 2011 have 16 GB of RAM installed and works perfectly.  The best sources of RAM compatible Macs are OWC and Crucial.

    Ciao.

  • Towards the end of 2015 memory 27-inch iMac

Just got my iMac to 3.3 GHz 27 inch end of 2015 and looked at the memory already installed.  A bar of 4 GB of ram is installed in Bank 0 and Bank 1 is the other 4 GB of ram.  Just put two 8 GB of ram, 4 GB and 8 GB is in Bank 0, and the other 12 GB are in Bank 1.  Is this correct?  I thought that the ram was supposed to be the same size and type in each bank memory, for example 2 x 4 GB in Bank 0 and 2 x 8 GB to Bank 1.  The iMac doesn't seem to object and it seems the tests when it starts.  Help much appreciated. Marie.

Simply put the RAM in both slots empty and you will be fine. Don't resist it.

  • End of 2011 MBP El Capitan Windows 7 Boot Camp without optical drive internal (LOSING MY MIND, Please HELP)

    What I have:

    • Original disc Windows 7 Pro from Microsoft as to
    • Downloaded ISO exact copy of Microsoft as well if need be
    • DVD player Samsung external optics
    • USB drive (s)

    What I don't have:

    • Optical drive internal and original; the Bay is empty.
    • Patience to use VM and WinClone and all that BS.

Sorry for the harsh tone, but I'm losing my mind edition .plists and restart a hundred times a day. erasure of the USB drives when all this used to work years ago.

I was sure it was possible to install Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro 2011 delay, an external optical drive. I not even asking to use a USB key.

Why do I have all official records of Microsoft and a USB/DVD drive, but am forced to use an other intern, that is broken for like 90 percent of Mac owners.

I see a black screen with a cursor on startup or a black screen saying no boot device... After using Boot Camp Assistant. I tried to not use the wizard and make a Fat32 partition on my USB on and implemented to date, but this method failed as well for some reason any illogical.

Please help me or at least explain certain restrictions that I can never get about in what concerns my machine and Boot Camp.

    Thank you!

Can you extract the the Samsung SATA connector and connect to the SATA internal optical drive connector?

The EFI on your Mac version works partially with a USB Flash drive, but the file info.plist mounting is required. The VM/Winclone method also works.
