Ends of updates of security with code error 80070490

Lately, all security updates installation fails to install with error code 80070490 (unknown error). Heard somewhere that it is caused by a corrupted file and can be solved by reinstalling Vista from the desktop... Tried to reinstall Vista connected and choosing to search for upgrades of the Internet. Vista came back and told me I should do a cleaning which I have for obvious reason did not want to install. Uninstalled SP2 and reinstalled again, that does not solve the problem. What to do.

TIP: Uninstall OneCare download/run the OneCare cleanup utility before installing a replacement anti-virus application, then do it before your OneCare subscription expires on 02 Feb-10.

The way, considering that KB955044 recommend to do a repair for the problem and that you install we said that a repair installation does not solve the problem, it would be best to do exactly what Support MS tells you to do:

Backup of personal data (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then do a format and clean install of Windows.

See the section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation... "of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista#section_3

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or a network otherwise and before using a USB key that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

I'll give you three options then I'm outta here for the new year.

    1.

2 uninstall SP2, and then recover (AKA repair installation) by http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958044.

  • update of security K97621 code 646 error

My computer keeps trying to install the update of security K97621. The status of the failed instalation & details of the error are code 646

Sorry, you have problems getting your patches installed. I have a number of things for you to look at.  First of all, your Background Intelligent Transfer Services set to Automaticand started and Windows Update ? They both should be started. You can check these settings by typing services.msc in the search box of the start menu.

Sometimes in order to get patches to install correctly, you must perform these tasks manually.

    (1) Download Center to visit Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx.
    (2) missing a number search for the update code that begins with the letters "KB" and followed by a set of numbers (i.e. KB979309) - number you give above.
    3) click on the link for the download and then click on download and run.  You must accept the agreement, and then click continue.
    (4) run the update from Microsoft, click find updates.  If all goes well, it will show that you are completely patched.

If this does not work, try to run the Microsoft OneCare safety scanner.  Sometimes it will solve problems of hidden registry, or can clear the virus that can prevent the installation of the patches: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm. Click full service scan, and then Quick scan (full scan takes a long time to complete). Try the patches.

  • Update KB951847 failed with the error code 80200053

Day before yesterday I did a reset (this was described to me, basically as a reformatting of all readers and a reinstallation of original software) on my desktop HP with Vista x 64.  Yesterday, I was doing the Microsoft Updates (I think he had 101 in total which stood for me).  All of the except KB951847 installed correctly.  When he reached KB951847 it says it failed with the error code 80200053.

I read on another thread that security antivirus software or others could cause this problem, but I still have to install it all because I read that it can interfere with some updates from Microsoft.

  • I can't install the update of security KB2724197, get error installation failed

The yellow ball advising me that there is an update to install, appears where it's always on my windows XP PC.
When I click on the ball, continue to the next step which says it's install, but then I get a message that the installation has failed.
I tried to install the update of security KB2724197 at least 10 times without success.
I rebooted, tried again and also checked for viruses and always without success.
The yellow ball continues to appear.
What is my next step, given that my PC is vulnerable to attack?

    Hi JosephR,

In some other threads that I saw about problems with this particular update, the problem has been resolved with one of two things.

First of all, I suggest you reset your Windows Components update.  Please take a look at the article below with the Fixit to do it for you:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

If this does not help, the issue could also be caused by a rootkit on your system.  Please take a look at the similar thread below where the poster was able to resolve the problem through Taupo Tech by removing the rootkit:

Cannot install Windows Update KB2724197, error FFFFFFFE

    I hope this helps!

  • I have reset my OS to xp. I tried to download all updates, but stuck with 0x8024400a error #. How can I solve this problem?

I have reset my comuter to the original factory setting when it was built in 05.  I did the resettlement program built into the hard drive.  I did not activate internet protection.  I was going to do after the updates.  When I went to look for updates to windows, the first error message is 0 x 80240036.  Got through that one, the other was 0x8024400a.  I tried the solution .bat with no effect.  What is next?   Thank you

Have you loaded Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3 again?   Windows updates will not work until you get loaded SP3, you need to load SP2 first, if it isn't already done.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=28 (SP2)
    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=24 (SP3)

Ignore warnings about these packages for computer scientists, or only for the excessive network installs and others.  These are full Service Packs that can be installed without an internet connection or when no other SPs are installed.
