Envy 17 3D primary HDD to SSD update

I was wondering the steps I need to take in order to upgrade my current 640GO 7200 HARD for one SSD drive. I read this thread on compatibility, so I'm aware of some issues, I might.
http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/hardware-upgrades-replacements/envy-17-SSD-compatibility/TD-p/1251555

I have a 3D Envy 17, I bought around this time last year so its probably an Envy 17-1000 - series 17-1099.  It came with w7 home preinstalled on a 640GO HDD 7200.  I want to put a SSD in the main location and use the 640 current in the secondary location.  I caddy HARD drive for secondary housing already I just need to know what are the steps I have to take for the SSD installs successfully.

Here are some questions I have:

  1. I know that envy is sata2 but most SSDS are sata3, sata3 SSD would be compatible with my desire?
  2. Use you the backup disc made from the 640 GB HARD drive and install it on the SSD or I'd get a new copy of w7 to install?
  3. If using a new copy of w7 pro would be the system, the video card drivers and 3d pose a problem since it is is not version of w7 HP?
  4. When the SSD is finally installed I can just pop my 640 in the secondary drive slot and pull the personal folders, and then format it or I don't get the personal files of beforhand?

Hello

Q1: Yes it is compatible.

Q2: I suggest to create a reduced recovery dvd in the HP Recovery Manager. Solid discs are not as large as the original hard drive and it can lead to problems during the restoration of the system on an ssd.

Q3: An OEM of Windows disk can be used to perform a new installation and download the necessary drivers from HP.

Q4: Yes, just install the hard drive in the Bay secondary and working as a slave drive so save all the data you need and then reformat...

Cloning will require 3rd party software. I use Acronis True Image Home. Some SSD Samsung come with a migration kit which includes a software disc (a version of Acronis I understand) and a usb to SATA adapter. There is a post sticky at the top of the updates Board that goes into the cloning procedure.

I recently ordered this ssd sata m2 of amazon, but I'm not sure its compatible with my system - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TGIW1XG?psc=1 & redirect = true & ref_ = oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00.

Its a Samsung 850 500 GB M.2 3.5 inch SSD Form Factor 80nm.  Can I use in a configuration to double for my laptop with the current 5400 RPM 1 TB HARD drive already in the system?  Or do I have to use one or the other?  Or can I select a smaller SSD storage for a double configuration?  I have to talk to a technician and he said my system does not support a 128 GB ssd and it did not indicate if it is a double or a single disk configuration.  In my view, it is difficult to imaging a new desire to 2015 with an i7 Quad Core skylake 6700HQ processor supports only a meagre 128 GB SSD.  Any ideas on what my system can support?

I can verify that it works very well. I had HP technology insist that I could use only one hard disk and a maximum capacity of 128 GB. The technicians don't know squat. I use now a configuration double with the operating system and my programs on my 850 m2 sata evo III 500 GB SSD and my data (videos, music and photos) files on the preinstalled 5400 RPM 1 TB HARD drive.

  • HP Pavilion 15 not: SSD update for HP Pavilion 15 laptop

I use PC HP Pavilion 15 Notebok (F6C42PA #ACJ). It came with Win 8.1 pre-installed on a 1 TB HARD drive. I updated the OS to win 10 and now upgrade my HDD to SSD. I was wondering if TS256GSSD370S Transcend and Samsung Evo 850 is compatible with my laptop. Also how to enable AHCI mode? I don't see such an option in the BIOS.

    Thank you.

15 - n203tx is the model. Here is the Service Manual:

The compartment access hard drive appears on p. 59. As you can see, it's a bit more involved.

Don't fall into the trap of overthink. The laptop is in ahci mode and you can not set otherwise. With Windows 10 an SSD will be automatically recognized as such and optimized. Your question only real tech is to get the software on the new SSD. After the back if you need some help with that.

The Samsung Evo 850 is my choice, but the Transcend would work too.

  • I have a HP envy j000 and I installed an SSD.

I have a HP envy j000 and I installed an SSD. If I look at MYPC, it doesn't have the installed ssd. If I look at the Device Manager it shows the installed ssd. What's new?

The SSD is probably not formatted and mounted as a drive in the system. In other words, it is empty. Right-click on MYPC and choose manage... go to disk management and find the SSD. Make a new simple volume and ntfs format and then assign a letter reader and you'll be good.

  • Z560 - replace the HDD with SSD - solved using OneKey Recovery

    Hey guys,.

In a few days time Santa is put me an SSD, OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB.

I think to clone the drive following this guide: http://www.ssdfreaks.com/content/664/how-to-clone-hdd-to-ssd-with-windows-7s-own-software and I'm a little confused on the partitions that are currently on the disk.

    I have:

    Local disk C: 552,55 gb,

    LENOVO 28.8 GB D:

and a partition unassigned 14.75 GB.

Does anyone know what contains the unassigned partition? I guess that's the One - Key recovery software? If this is the case, then I intend on deleting the D: Partition, which currently contains drivers, narrows the C:\ about 100 GB and cloning then the C:\ 100 GB and partition unassigned... will this work?

    Bravo guys!

    Rastaman

    Hey guys,.

I got my Vertex 3 today and it is ridiculously fast. Totally recommend it if you can afford it. Anyway, I discovered how do I reinstall my laptop, and I'm going to ask you now:

    (1) One Key Recovery Opened and clicked on 'create recovery disk', followed by 'default recovery drive '.

    (2) thought - sod it, I'll just stay in my new SSD and see what happens. Inserted, set the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive, and then install windows.

    (3) gain?

In fact, I found myself with

    C:\ 96,84 GB

Partion unnamed (14, 75 GB) - this is the area of a key recovery

Unnamed (200 mb) - partition likely etc boot sector reserved by operating system - seen elsewhere on other systems and is quite normal!

So yes, that happened on a NEW SSD building, which had not been formatted before - OneKey Recovery did everything by himself.

I hope this helps people in the future!

    Merry Christmas!

  • Drive HARD SSD update of HP ENVY 15 - j009wm AMD processor

I read on some other forums that the Intel chip was required for updates.  I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade the HDD of 750 GB in this laptop to an SSD.

    Hello

Yes. No difference between Intel & AMD processor. You can replace the HARD drive existing DSS to get better performance.

  • HP Envy 17-j053 SSD update

    Hi all

As I bought a HP Envy 17-j053 laptop from Currys/PC World (UK) and I know that my laptop has a second hard drive Bay. I think that the performance of my laptop are strongly a bottleneck of slow hard disk 5400 RPM HP put in it, so I looked in the addition of an SSD.

I found the cable and box rubber on Amazon for a total tear of £60 and I found the SSD that I want to install (840 Pro 256 GB Samsung).

Question is the laptop won't work with the SSD in HDD1 (as the boot drive (windows 8.1 & programs)) and the 1 TB in HDD2 as a data disc?

I'm sorry I missed it. It won't cause any problems. I have a very similar model... 17 t-j029nr envy and have used it with a SSD in primary and secondary and no problem at all. In my humble opinion, it's how it should be implemented... SSD in the main housing and the big slow spinner only for storage.

  • HP ENVY 15 J122TX TS: replace the HDD with SSD

    Hello world

I'm new here, I bought a HP ENVY 15 TS, there an mSata 24GO and I was wondering if I could install a larger mSata to run the o/s. If this is not the case, replace with a new SSD HARD drive? If so, what is the optimum capacity should I install? My characteristics are, Core i7-4700MQ, 8 x 2 GB RAM, 1 TB of HARD drive.

    Awaitng a solution.

    Thank you

    SENAL

Here is the Service Manual of the 15 WANTED TS J122TX:

    Manual

See pages 43 to 48 for more information on the removal and replacement of hard drives, including the WSSD. Your laptop Fortunately for you access to these components. The reader of the WSSD cannot be done in bootable without changes of very high-level software that I will assume that you do not want to try. Even with those that you are technically not the start of the WSSD to redirect to start Windows boot from the primary drive and finish by the WSSD. So basically if you want to run an SSD, penetrates a 500 GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD and remove the MSSD. We then have to reinstall the software on the SSD drive. With an SSD as drive so it is more a reason for the accelerator of the WSSD, but on your model of operating system installation still requires a bit of trickery that storage controller is on RAID and you need to load a driver during installation. After if you want to proceed with this I can be sure that you are interested in before getting into the details.

  • HP Envy 6 - 1010ea HDD and SSD upgrade

    Hello

I am looking to remove the existing HARD drive and msata SSD with the largest capacity as a 120 / 240 GB msata SSD and 1 TB + HDD for primary storage.

I know that come from 2.5 "HDD in a number of variations, especially when it comes to the height of the car you can get 12.5 mm, 7mm, 9.5 mm and 15 mm and adapted plant Hitachi TravelStar Z5K500 is 7x70x100mm (WxHxD), so I was wondering what the larger physical size HARD drive I can hold inside is.

Also are the dimensions on standard msata drives? and are there recommendations for msata SSD and 2.5 "HARD disk.

    Thanks in advance.

No, you are limited for the ultrathin drives of 7mm.
