Envy 17 k299nb: Windows 8.1 on "new" laptop wants the recovery disk 32 GB

Hello

Bandnew laptop, turned on for the first time.
First thing I want to do after installation, is to make a recovery disk.
When you choose this option, the laptop wonder a 32 GB flash drive 'at least'.
How can this be since it has "new"?

And more importantly, how I can reduce this amount of memory needed?

Access performance and USB drive is so terrible in this notebook I have to wait for hours!

THX

This has nothing to do with the laptop being new. It is just a part of the initial report of installation and can be ignored for now, if you don't not available now.    Just remember you need to do the recovery at some point media.

You can skip the creation now and create it later.

If you want to have external recovery media access, then you will need to follow the guests will tell you. Do not save anything in the recovery partition!

You can access more later by invoking the charm of research and typing in HP recovery. Click the icon to create HP recovery media to start the process.

It won't take hours to make the usb recovery media. Access USB is fast, especially compared to the access of the DVD media.

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post about your problems of recovery and wanted to help.

HP recovery media is not available for download, instead, you must order the physical support of HP.

We need the number of detailed PC product to see if these media are available.

However, if this PC has been upgraded to Win10 a previous OS, the media would restore it to the original operating system, and not to Win10.

Also, with a PC updated, if all you want to restore to Win10, you can create a Win10 installation media go to this link and do a clean install: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10

Note that when you download and build install media, the default tool corresponding to what is already installed on your PC (as in home for the House, and 64-bit to 64 - bit).  While you CAN change these settings, are NOT.  If you do, the media that results will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code.

    Good luck

  • Satellite l.660-12 q - would the recovery disk rebuild the new HARD disk with a new recovery partition

Talk about confusion. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 work after the HARD drive failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will be the recovery disk (if buy you one from Toshiba) rebuild the new HARD disk with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS) and accept the product key printed on the Windows license, attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions, but these have been considered incorrect by others.

Surely, Toshiba must have a way to sort this problem.

    They read these messages?

    Hey Buddy

I don't think it's really complicated, that I could find all the information about the recovery procedure in the user's manual

The recovery disk must be created on the first day of purchase its recommended to create one in case something would be wrong with the HARD drive.

The recovery disk contains an image. The image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff pre-installed on the notebook.
You bought the laptop and the system has already been activated so that you have need of t the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
In addition, the use of the recovery disc formats the drive HARD integer (partitions too) and set the laptop in the same condition as at the first day of the purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HARD drive recovery. This HARD drive recovery requires no recovery disk. The recovery disc HARD would be to use format ONLY partition C (System).

  • Satellite A300: Vista 64 bits after the new installation by using the recovery disk

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 A300 / M00 and when I got it, it had Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit. But after awhile, I started to have problems so I decided to reinstall Vista on my laptop. After crossing with the product recovery media, my system become so 64-bit.

Was not my system suppose to have 32-bit when it was originally with her?
If no, then how can I install 32 bit once more on my laptop like 64-bit gives me problems with the installation of some of my programs.

If I need to buy a copy of Vista 32 Bit, where can I find the drivers for my system, because the product recovery media has all the drivers on this subject.

    Thank you for your time.

Hmm. Your ad is a little confusing.

Why would you say that Toshiba Recovery disk contains a version of Vista 64-bit?
    How did you check that?
From my experience, the Toshiba recovery disc still contains the preinstalled operating system.

Also as much as I know the new notebook from Toshiba are not delivered with the recovery disk, but with a HARD drive recovery option.
This option allows you to reinstall the OS from the second partition of HARD drive recovery.
Alternatively, you can use the preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator software to create the own recovery DVDs! And this recovery disk contains the same preinstalled OS!

  • I reformatted my T520 with the recovery disk, but Windows cannot start

I reformatted my T520 with my recovery disk. When the computer restarts, it says that Windows cannot start properly. Help, please.

I finally solved the problem; Here is my solution:

I have determined that the backup image has been bad, and this is perhaps why the recovery disks have been as bad. I tried to use both to reformat the C:\drive several times without success. Fortunately, I had a Windows 7 disc from another computer that I no longer use. However, the T520 would not be updated to Windows 7 using this disk, so I run Diskpart to reformat all (this removes everything, including the image.) Then, I was able to reinstall Windows 7.

With this new facility, would not any responsible drivers, including LAN and wireless drivers. I went on the Lenovo Web site: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?selector=expand to download the driver for "Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg). This provided wireless access to the computer. (Downloaded the driver on another computer, saved on a USB stick to transfer to the T520.) Restarted the computer in case where. Then, I went to http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=TVSU-UPDATE to download ThinkVantage System Update 5.0. After you have installed this software and reboot, all the necessary drivers would be so loaded.

Unfortunately, if you don't have any Windows disk, you will need to pay 50 dollars to get one from Lenovo. Lesson learned? Next time I buy a new computer, the first thing I would do is to reformat and reload the computer by using the image while still under warranty. I did several times with my other Lenovo laptops without fail. I have to do this once every 3 years each time my computer seems to slow down. This is the first time, it didn't work.

I hope this help anyone who is in the same situation.

(Boy, I have miss the good old days when I could fix everything from the DOS command prompt.)

If your copy of Windows is preinstalled, then the copy of the product key should be on a sticker on the side of the Tower (for desktop computers) or on the bottom (for desktop computers) and the certificate of authenticity (COA). • HP Pavilion g6: after having improved 8.1 to windows 10, which is on the recovery disk?

I'm new to the forum, I hope I posted in the right place.

After having improved 8.1 to 10, which is on the windows recovery disk? If this isn't windows 10 what should I do to create a new recovery disk? or should I remove it?

I have a USB recovery for windows 8.1 if I should need it.

I have created a disk to repair windows 10 and have a system image on an external hard drive.

I didn't beleave I need in fact the disk recovery that I have a backup option, but I would be nice to have the ability to recover from training. I understand the backup option that I have will allow me to get back if I lose the reader.

    Please notify

    Thank you in advance.

After having waited 22 days for a reply on the forum, I finally rang HP support.

The answer is that the recovery disk is windows 8. It has not been updated by windows 8.1 or 10.

Very, very disappointed that I couldn't have it on the forum.

Have posted that someone may have the same question.

  • Restore using the recovery disks on Inspiron 15 3521 supplied with Windows 8 Pro. Question on the recovery partition.

I created by the user recovery disks.  I created them the day I got the computer and he made three of them.  My brother has deleted my recovery partition just now.  My question is, if I resumed my Inspiron 15 3521 using three recovery disks that I created, be it recreate the recovery partition in the process?   I just need an answer to this question, not responses indicating that, if I have the disks, I don't need the recovery partition, why would I want the recovery partition if I have the drive, etc.  I would like to just a simple answer to the question.  If I use the recovery discs, it will recreate the partition recovery with all the info, she was in it when I got to the computer?  Once the recovery is completed from disks, will be that recovery partition be there as the day I got the computer, so if I wanted to (I don't want to, but I'm just a question) I could still create the recovery of her discs?  Basically, the computer will be exactly as it was the day I got it home, recover partition and everything?  Or, it will restore the computer to the new plant, but not to re-create the recovery partition with everything she had in it the day I got it?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, it will be if you select the correct option.
