Backup Wizard requires a 3.5 floppy to create a system restore disk. When my system and many others have more 3.5 disks... How to solve?
Original title: windows xp absence of 3.5 diskettes and Backup Assistant
Hello JohnAdams2461,
You're right, that Windows XP requires a floppy drive to create the recovery disk.
Most newer systems do not have a floppy drive.

Hello
Here are all the HP information on different methods to recover back to factory settings
Three ways to recover the PC to original operating status
You have a choice of three ways to run a recovery and restore your computer to its original state. The recovery process may take an hour upwards or more and is not complete until the prompt to connect to the computer. When the recovery is complete, don't forget to run the update of Microsoft Windows and the HP health check to install all the drivers updated and software.Restore the PC to its original state with the HP Recovery Manager of in Windows VistaIf the PC can be started and opens on the Windows desktop, you can use the HP recovery disk to restore the PC to original factory State by following the steps below.- Click Start and enter the recovery in the field of research. Select Recovery Manager in the list, when it becomes available. Allow the action to proceed, if you are prompted. The HP Recovery Manager opens.Alternatively, click Start , all programs , Recovery Manager , and then Recovery Manager . Allow the action to proceed, if you are prompted. The HP Recovery Manager opens.

Once you click Next , the restore process cannot be stopped - If you are convinced that you want to start the recovery process, click Next . The PC immediately starts formatting the disk hard drive and destroy all data.
The recovery process may take up to several hours and will return the PC to its original state. All custom, settings drivers, software and upgrades or hardware updates are lost and must be reinstalled.Restore the PC to its original state with the HP Recovery Manager if Windows Vista is not accessible. Follow the instructions. If the PC does not start under Windows, it may still be possible to use the HP recovery disk to restore the computer to its original state. The Recovery Manager can be started during the boot process by following the steps below.- Press on the button / stop to start the PC and press the f11 key when the standard BIOS guests appear on the black screen.
NOTE: By pressing the f11 key at startup on a computer with an image factory HP will start the system recovery process, even if the message is not displayed. - If the HP Recovery Manager can access the hard disk recovery partition, a prompt to back up user files before you start the recovery
- If the HP Recovery Manager cannot access the hard disk to resolve system errors, you need to use the recovery disk custom that you created to recover the hard disk to its original state.
- If you have not created the custom recovery disk, or disks are damaged, you can order a replacement of HP recovery CD.
- When the Recovery Manager starts, follow the instructions of recovery step by step , shown above.
- Insert the recovery disc into the optical disc drive and start the computer. If the computer is running, insert the reinstallation disc and immediately click on Start and select restart to force the computer to boot from the recovery disc.

- Follow the on-screen instructions and perform the necessary actions.
NOTE: Do not interrupt the recovery process even though the computer may restart, and the Windows desktop can display at different times. - When you are prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to backup user files.
- After completing the backup, when you are prompted, reinsert the recovery disk, and then click Next to continue the recovery process.A status box is displayed to indicate the State of the recovery and the estimated remaining time.
- If you have used several disks when you created the custom recovery discs, follow the prompts to remove the first disc and insert requested discs.
- When you are prompted to Insert additional driver disk , take one of the following actions:

I'm new to the forum, I hope I posted in the right place.
After having improved 8.1 to 10, which is on the windows recovery disk? If this isn't windows 10 what should I do to create a new recovery disk? or should I remove it?
I have a USB recovery for windows 8.1 if I should need it.
I have created a disk to repair windows 10 and have a system image on an external hard drive.
I didn't beleave I need in fact the disk recovery that I have a backup option, but I would be nice to have the ability to recover from training. I understand the backup option that I have will allow me to get back if I lose the reader.
Please notify
Thank you in advance.
After having waited 22 days for a reply on the forum, I finally rang HP support.
The answer is that the recovery disk is windows 8. It has not been updated by windows 8.1 or 10.
Very, very disappointed that I couldn't have it on the forum.
Have posted that someone may have the same question.

I bought a R61 with Vista Business installed for the purpose of this downgrade to Windows/XP. I noted with interest that the system had arrived with VISTA/SP1 is installed. First thing I did was summon the Thinkvantage Rescue to create and support recovery in the case where I decided to go back to Vista at some point in the future. After you have created all of the proceeds of the recovery disks and being the creative professional that I am, I decided to test the newly created disks. Three DVD has been created. When I tried to restore the system from these backups, I learned that I didn't have a CD of the operating system. None of the 3 DVD was recognized as a CD of the operating system. Unfortunately at this point in the process, the hard drive had been wiped out and I didn't have a working computer. My only alternative was to restore using the recovery media to Windows/XP that were in the area and call Lenovo and request recovery Vista media. They arrived very quickly, so I deleted the XP image and restore the image of Vista from Lenovo's Vista recovery disks. I was very disappointed to discover that there was no SP1 Vista recovery disks. To make matters worse, when I tried to call the 'create recovery media' of this image of Vista, I even created a box of 3 DVD recovery DVDs that once again, did not contain an operating system CD.
I find myself with the situation that I can't get the exact picture that was on my computer, when it left the factory. I don't know that besides as SP1, it should have been revised pilots and others who came with this machine originally, and which I am not aware. These could create strange incompatibilities I had to install Vista/Sp1 from the Microsoft site on top of the current generation of Vista.
Is it possible to get a Vista Business/Sp1 for the R61 recovery support?
Moreover, my computer is Windows XP now and recovery media created from this environment of work like a charm. I know. I tried them.
It took a few months to get a handle on this, but here is the final solution.
First of all, the person who suggested that if the first media was on DVD, to copy it to a CD to work had no idea what they were talking about. Either works just as well, even if Lenovo suggests that the first must be a CD.
As usual, the 'problem' was caused by poor documentation. When you perform a set of recovery using Rescue and Recovery Media, you do not create an "operating system CD", and this is normal. When you get a set of recovery CD / DVD from Lenovo, you will always get one which is marked "operating system CD.
Different sets through processes of different recovery and rescue and recovery needs to know what kind of game you have, it allows to perform the correct process. It does this by asking the question "Do you have an OS CD?" Based on the answer she executes a process or another and expects different content on the CD / DVD that are presented to him. You cannot mix DVD upward between the two processes. If you say Reccue and recovery that you have a CD of the operating system (ie. provided by Lenovo) and present it with media created by you using the process of "Creating rescue media", the recovery fails.
Finally, I went back and restored my machine using the DVD that I created initially using Rescue and Recovery. I answered 'NO' to the question "Do you have an OS CD?" and ended with a perfectly functional R61 VISTA/SP1. He didn't stay for long, however. Then I reinstalled XP using the provided Lenovo recovery CD, I answered YES to the question and ended up with a fully functional XP R61. Now, everything's fine.

I reformatted my T520 with the recovery disk, but Windows cannot start
I reformatted my T520 with my recovery disk. When the computer restarts, it says that Windows cannot start properly. Help, please.
I finally solved the problem; Here is my solution:
I have determined that the backup image has been bad, and this is perhaps why the recovery disks have been as bad. I tried to use both to reformat the C:\drive several times without success. Fortunately, I had a Windows 7 disc from another computer that I no longer use. However, the T520 would not be updated to Windows 7 using this disk, so I run Diskpart to reformat all (this removes everything, including the image.) Then, I was able to reinstall Windows 7.
With this new facility, would not any responsible drivers, including LAN and wireless drivers. I went on the Lenovo Web site: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?selector=expand to download the driver for "Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg). This provided wireless access to the computer. (Downloaded the driver on another computer, saved on a USB stick to transfer to the T520.) Restarted the computer in case where. Then, I went to http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=TVSU-UPDATE to download ThinkVantage System Update 5.0. After you have installed this software and reboot, all the necessary drivers would be so loaded.
Unfortunately, if you don't have any Windows disk, you will need to pay 50 dollars to get one from Lenovo. Lesson learned? Next time I buy a new computer, the first thing I would do is to reformat and reload the computer by using the image while still under warranty. I did several times with my other Lenovo laptops without fail. I have to do this once every 3 years each time my computer seems to slow down. This is the first time, it didn't work.
I hope this help anyone who is in the same situation.
(Boy, I have miss the good old days when I could fix everything from the DOS command prompt.)

Install Windows Vista from the recovery disk
I think the upgrade to windows 7, the official version. However, before I do that, I know that if I can downgrade to windows vista, as soon as I upgrade to Windows 7. I'm not sure that you will be able to go back to windows vista. Currently I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I also have the recovery disk. Can I install windows Vista on a recovery disk? I saw this article where they made a cd to the recovery partition and installed windows vista. Following the link to the article: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=622. If you can help me with this, that would be grateful.
There is no decommissioning as such; Installing a clean place to go back to Vista.
You can reinstall Vista recovery disk/s that you made, or with those of the manufacturer of the computer.
And if it was / is a hard youtr recovery partition, do you the recovery disks FRO it. Mick Murphy - Microsoft partner

Activate by phone
http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/84488-activate-Vista-phone.html
Please note this step #9If the activation service informs you that she has failed and cannot help with activation, then STAY ON THE LINE and your call will be transferred to an operator of activation which will help you to activate your copy of Vista. The operator will give you all the numbers to ID of Confirmation if they accept that your copy of Vista is legitimate.
NOTE: The operator just explain your situation and what you did to require activation. (EX: hardware upgrade, installed Vista on a new computer after uninstalling it from the old one, etc...) -
Apparently the upgrade does not recognize that Windows is on the drive, but cannot restore the original software as HP blocked their recovery disk. The recovery partition is there, but he cannot get starter. The recovery disks have the original spirit operating system Windows - how can I get the upgrade to recognize?
Hello
an upgrade must be done from vista, NOT operating system by booting from the disk to upgrade
as you have problems using the maunfacturers recovery process, upgrade disc etc., read what you may have hardware problems.
If you have problems with the process of recovery of manufacturers, contact the manufacturer
It's their recovery process not microsofts
