Equium M40x - no access to D: / drive

I can't access anything on my D drive.
I get a pop saying that:
D: / is not accessible.
The request could not be performed because of an i/o device error.

No matter what I try, nothing seems to help, including uninstalling drivers and restart my laptop.

I have a toshiba satellite m40x running window XP sp3.
any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

If I was you I would first check the Device Manager.
There may be some conflicts with your sound card
Remove the sound from the Device Manager and restart the machine.
Then reinstall the audio driver again.

Did you also check if you can hear something using the headset?
    You should do this!

Also check if the sound is not muted. You can disable and enable using the FN + ESC.

  • Equium M40X: Issue information and system devices.

I just bought an Equium M40X and did a complete new installation with Windows XP Pro... I saved the original software loaded drivers and all loaded with success apart from a PCI driver. I went to the information devices and Sys problem and that's what it came with... PCI\VEN_104C & DEV_8034 & SUBSYS_FF031179 & REV_00\4 & AD1 B67F & 0 & 24F0 Can someone enlighten me as to what this could be how it makes me nuts.

    Thank you very much

Hi, http://www.pcidatabase.com/vendor_details.php?id=308 PCI Vendor 104 belongs to Texas Instruments. Although 8034 DEV is not listed, I'm sure this is the FireWire (Lynx - OHCI IEEE 1394 controller) because it is in the rage of 0x8000. With regard to the resolution of your problem, I do not know you can try to remove the PCI entry and let XP re - detect new hardware. If it works maybe perhaps a TI driver update?

  • Equium M40X specification information required

    Hello
I hope that there is someone on the forum who can help me.

    I have a satellite M40X Toxhiba.
I spent several hours on the Toshiba site this morning trying to find the specifications of this model.
    Unfortunately my laptop broke down.

I was told that the motherboard is cracked and I can access is no longer at the computer.
I do not have a note card and none of my writings gives this information.
It's a computer 15 "laptop with CD/DVD player, Intel Centrino, SRS Trusound, Microsoft XP.

I need to know the size of the memory and RAM and anything else if you think relevant.
    Thank you very much. Issyb

    Hello

There are many different models of Equium M40X.
Numbers so much more would be needed to determine what components are installed.

Usually, the model number should be placed at the bottom of the unit.

  • Equium M40X: I get to the banner of Toshiba, but Windows does not start

When I start my 2 year old Toshiba Satellite M40X, I get to the banner of Toshiba, but Windows does not start. I tried using the recovery CD and it does not either.

Any suggestions as to what could be the problem?

    Hello

What do you mean with the banner of Toshiba? Did you mean the Toshiba splash screen that appears at the begging of the boot?

Equium M40X successfully passed this screen?

If the laptop is unable to switch to the home Toshiba screen then I presume that the BIOS has detected a hardware problem.
In this case primarily the motherboard fails

But if the laptop is able to spend the Toshiba start screen, the motherboard must be ok and only a 3rd device malfunction as HARD drive could cause this problem.

  • Equium M40X: Cannot print - not done. Print Spooler service does not

My notebook Equium M40X has suddenly decided to stop from allowing me to print, gives me the message "operation was not completed. "print spooler service does not. I get this message even when you try to install the original installed printer drivers.

To resolve this problem, I went to the services.msc to attempt to start the print spooler, but the command is not here present and seems to be missing. I also tried to launch it by clicking Start and then run and typing "net start spooler", but even once, it does not. Can anyone help with this?

My laptop is an Equium M40X and the operating system is Windows XP Service Pack 2.

    Hello

This error occurs because the spooler service has not been started or has stopped working.
It seems that this error is known to Microsoft and they decided to public an article in the knowledge base that could help solve this problem.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314876

As you say that the spooler service must be restarted.
To start the spooler service, follow these steps:
    1. click on start and then click Control Panel.
    2. double-click Administrative Tools and then click Services.
    3. double-click on the Printer Spooler service and then change the startup type to automatic. This option sets the spooler service starts automatically when you restart the computer.
    4. If you want to start the spooler service immediately, click the Start button under the Service status field

If you will not be able to restart the spooler service, you can try to restore the Windows operating system to the point initially by using the Windows System Restore tool.

  • Equium M40X: Can I play the games?

I have a new laptop Equium M40X. Am new to laptops. I can play games such as the prince of Persia warrior on this laptop, quietly and will seriously strain its resources.

    Hi Kamal,

Welcome to the forum. Your new laptop computer has sufficient resources for almost all of the games currently available, so you risk nothing to the test by playing.

The only problem you're likely to face with some of the most high resources games is the graphics card, because it generally uses drivers designed for your laptop and these are not necessarily compatible with the requirements of the games. I have not yet found an easy way to predict what games will be or will not work properly.

So far, I only got a game that wouldn't work properly on my laptop due to incompatible graphics drivers (I have an ATI RADEON 9100). It is a somewhat obscure title (Knights of the Temple - crusade).

Good luck with your new Toshiba,

    Kind regards

  • Equium M40x screen: warranty issue

    Hello

I've only had my Equium M40x for a week or two, and there is a very small fly which managed to crawl under the screen and to die in the middle of the screen. It is not huge, but it is very annoying, especially because I have not used outside and I got it for a short period of time.

This kind of thing is covered under warranty? Any help appreciated.

[Edited by: admin on 17 July 05 20:11]

    Hey Kevin,
I doubt if this is covered under warranty, since it is not a component malfunction or failure.

I recommend to contact your original provider and explain the situation to them as a first action plan. Well, they may be happy to exchange the phone for you.

Otherwise, you call the closest to the Agent of Service Toshiba and ask them to quote you to remove dead insects. Of course, this can be done by an authorized service center or you will void your warranty.

    Good luck

  • Equium M40X-discharge the battery. Help, please!

I recently bought an Equium M40X - 149, and I did not understand why when the power adapter is plugged into the battery discharges and the computer turns off! So I returned to the store and they said it's just the cycle of the battery and I would need to go into bios to change the settings.
I went into the bios, but I couldn't find anything that I could change to stop it! Can someone point me in the right direction because this is inconvinient for me to keep taking the battery when I want to use the laptop!

    Thank you
    Gemma

    Hi Gemma,

Switching between AC and battery power is normally controlled by the Toshiba Power utility. You can check the configuration and parameters to confirm that you are not defined to use the power of the battery.

When the PC is turned off then a chip on the motherboard controls the battery when the power is connected. This prevents the overload (and damage resulting to) the battery.

If the problem persists, I would re - install the utility of Toshiba power from your utility disk or from the Toshiba web site.

  • Equium M40x: Can I use the adapter for Satellite M40 series?

Can I use a power supply on my Equium M40x if it says it is compatible with the Satellite M40 series? The two laptops are similar, and the image of the card looks the same as the one I had. The part number is PA3378E-3AC3.

    Hello

the satellite needs a power adapter 65W and 19V.
Your power adapter output performance is too large (75W), you should not use it to avoid damage to the satellite.

    Hello!

It's strange, but you have installed all updates for your Windows?

Maybe you need to reinstall the laptop with the Toshiba Recovery disk or you have a virus or something else on your computer. Update your antivirus program and leave virus scanner.

  • Two problems with my Equium M40X

    Hello

Today, I've suffered two problems, earlier, that the computer refused to wake... I have posted before I have an Equium M40X and so I have no restart button. His arrival on a desk where the computer would not come out of sleep... so I had to pick it up, then remove the battery... While power is still.

Then later the DVD/RAM started weird noises when I put a CD and she underwent a complete block place... same procedure applied. Only this time the battery does not recharge after such a unorthodox procedure... is this normal? I mean remove the battery in a way...

    Hi Jamie,

The usual way of "forcing" a notebook of power off is to hold down the power button for 5 seconds. This causes the system to power down and then you can just turn it on normally.

    Kind regards
