Equium P200 - getting slower

I bought my laptop Equium P200 on 18 months ago and updated upgraded the memory from 1 GB to 2 GB.

Since just after Christmas, the performance of the machine has been terrible. It takes an age to start, is almost as if she gets to sleep when I try to open the mail or the internet. Is sometimes said that he has a problem with ReadyBoost and stop that, he is also prone to kill the wireless service. I am running Vista.

The question is what can I do to make the performance that it was when I received the kit?

When I look in the Task Manager (sometimes it is the only way to make the portable thte wake up) it says its using a little more than a GB of memory and the processor is not be overworked. The fan is running not bad, the drive light is on almost constantly. I have treid defraging the disk, he starts anything other than the operating system at startup.

Help!

Hello

It s not easy to say which is the reason why, for this, but in most cases it s associated with the software.

Have you tried to uninstall Toshiba Tempro? This causes also a long system start time and I took off because I don t need.
In addition, you should look into msconfig and disable all programs starting that you don't need. This can improve performance.
I also disable some services that I n t need in services.msc (start > run > services.msc).
CCleaner is a good program to clean your system. You Google to find and it s freeware. CCleaner deletes all unnecessary registry entries and old files on the HARD disk, they are not necessary.
And you should look for a bit in the forum. There you can find many threads how to improve performance on Vista systems.

You use the factory settings or you have installed your own version of Windows?
In the worst cases, you must take the Toshiba Recovery disk to reinstall Windows.

Welcome them

  • Processor upgrade and Equium P200-1ED

    Hello

I installed an SSD of 64Go and installed Windows 7 with the user and the data folders program on a SD card installed as USB key into the Expresscard slot. I also put in 4 GB RAM

It is still slow to navigate the Web through wired Ethernet. So I plan to upgrade the processors as the neck of the bottle seems to be permanently on the processor which is a T2310 Dual Intel @1.46 GHz.

So the question is what is the next possible CPU upgrade?

    Thank you

Update CPU has no influence on the Internet.
    It's done.
If you have a slow internet connection, check the flow of data to your internet provider.

    Regarding the upgrade of CPU:

Upgrading the CPU is certainly not supported by the laptop manufacturers. But this does not mean that another CPU would not work. A lot of people here in the forum attempted to upgrade the processor and in some cases, it worked.
It will be important to know which chipset was built in this Equium P200-1ED.

I m not very well, but I guess that its Intel GL960 Express Chipset. Please correct me if I m wrong the chipset must support the new CPU, otherwise the new processor cannot be used.

Page Intel ARK provide information on supported processors
    http://Ark.Intel.com/products/29830

In addition the new processor must be supported by the BIOS. If the BIOS would not support new CPU, the laptop would not start even if the chipset would be compatible with the new processor.

As you can see, the CPU upgrade isn't easy because of pending issues concerning the compatibility issues between different parts for laptop.

By the way: I am wondering about the upgrade to 4 GB RAM because this device should support max 2 GB of RAM

  • Equium P200 with WXP, no ACPI

    Hello

I recently bought a new HARD drive to replace the Vista operating system.

I used nlite to make an iso of the drivers SATA, SP2, and XP Home.
I installed XP, SP3 and then all the drivers concerned from Toshiba. Especially the PC is fine, but I have a couple questions.

    They are:
1 button will turn PC on or off, but not shut down the OS before turning off.
    2. when I stop XP I get the message (Win98), "it is now turn off your computer"! (Both of these may be (?) related).
    3. in eating patterns Options\Power I have only the possibility of the turn the HARD drive and monitor and then in the Advanced tab at all no options!
    4. with the exception of point 1 I have no control of the any of the other easy access above the function keys buttons. Toshiba controls are configured but do nothing!

I studied these problems and it would seem that the APCI perhaps the corupt? I can't find any mention of ACPI in the BIOS (Phoenix V2.3). Also, I can't find any reference to ACPI in including hidden devices Device Manager! It was also suggested to upgrade the BIOS to ACPI compatible version?

The only clues I can give, is that even if the pilot pwrsav the pwrsav driver installed OK - in twice caused a fatal error (BSOD) on the PC. To restart, as Toshiba Power Saver icon in Control Panel, but the opening gave me a Fatal Exception error message. I then restored the system to remove the program.
In my opinion that ACPI and energy savings are related, please inform me if I am wrong. (Items 1 to 4 can all be linked)?

XP has apparently ACPI capabilities but I can't find anything on the PC in this regard.
With Vista that I had no problem with mentioned previously not mentioned and everything worked perfectly.
Your help would be much appreciated...

I have an old Equium P200 - 1Ed, who started to play up.

When I try to install Linux, it gives me an error for realtek ethernet adapter and I studied the problem on the forums.

Apparently, my hard drive is old and decrepit.

I tried to reinstall Vista from the default Toshiba CD, just out of curiosity, and installed fine, except, seemed unwilling to connect internet.

Tried Linux, but still the same problem from realtek.

Apparently I can download the driver bios flash and try to reinstall the bios... it looks like my last hope.

Anyone know where I can get the bios driver for P200-1ED?

Updates to the BIOS, you can find on toshiba BIOS support page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp

To be honest I don't know if the BIOS update will help with the installation of Linux, but you can try it.

  • Equium P200-1ED: is it possible to use 3 Gbps HARD drive?

    Hi all

I have a laptop Toshiba Equium P200-1ED and quickly fill capacity on the hard drive. I'm looking to upgrade to something like a 500-700 GB HARD drive.

However, when I look around for 1.5 gb/s options I am limited to 160 GB maximum.

Even if the current HARD disk interface is 1.5 gb/s (currently using Hitachi HTS542512K95A00) is possible to use a HARD 3 gb/s drive and P200-1ED will support it?

I am not so embarrassed on the speed of performance, more the need for a larger storage capacity without having to get an external drive.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Announcement

    Hello

Equium P200 supports the controller SATA HDD and SATA I and SATA II HDD are compatible and would be supported by the BIOS.

You can use a disk HARD SATA II (3 Gb/s).

But perhaps only the 1.5BGb / s (SATA I performance) would be reached.

We have other home computers that connect to the router and the internet

  • Equium P200 does not recognize the wireless network with Win XP card

    Dear team

I recently installed windows XP on my Equium P200 (he had originally vista).
Now, I have a problem with the Atheros wireless card. The computer does not recognize the wireless card is installed. I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, but nothing works. In the hardware Manager, I get an error code 10 when you try to install the drivers. Can someone please help.

    Thank you

Are you sure that you have an Atheros WLan card installed on this laptop computer at 100%?
I recommend you to check the bottom of the unit. There are labels with information about the wireless network card! I think that there is a number. Then google for this number and you should get information on the wireless network card.

  • Hard drive not found - installing WXP on Equium P200

    Dear all

I have an Equium P200 with Vista. I decided to remove vista and install windows XP. I put the XP and it goes through a verification process, I guess. At the end of the audit and after I pressed the button to install XP, I get the message "hard drive not found on this computer. Help me with as I want to install XP, my laptop?

    REDA

The XP operating system could not find the HARD drive because you have not installed the Intel Matrix Storage Manager.
It is a SATA driver is needed t install the XP.

During the operating system installation process, you will need to press the F6 key to include the external USB FDD drive SATA driver.

It you don t have a USB FDD drive then nLite software could be a solution.

  • Equium P200-178-backlight of the screen is not

One of my friends has an Equium P200-178 and the backlight on the screen has failed.
Unfortunately, the machine is out of its warranty of three weeks and we are very, very far from a repair shop.

Googling the problem indicates that the inverter may have failed, but how get you to it?
I removed all the screws that I see on the case, but there still disintegrates. I don't want to take the risk of breaking.

    Any help very welcome!

    See you soon.

    Hello

The FL inverter is a small part that controls the screen's backlight and it s close the TFT screen.

Usually it s not advisable to disassemble these portable High-Tech, because this procedure is difficult and you could damage other parts.

However, it seems that you are already on the job and portable computer s covers are already deleted.
Well, I googled a bit and found this page:

[Disassemble Toshiba Satellite P205 display panel and remove the LCD screen and inverter. | http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-p205/take-apart-display-panel-1.htm]

It s on P205 but it s very similar to the model of laptop P200.
