Erase an iMac of 2008 to give

I try to erase an old iMac to give to friends. It's an iMac 20 inches at the beginning of 2008. I tried to follow the instructions from apple, but I can't go back to the operating system that it had when I bought first it. He keeps insisting on the relocation of El Capitan and using my Apple ID. I need to get at least to a place where a new apple ID could be created and associated with this computer.

I have my OS 10.4 install disc, but it wont let me run. I can not OS X Internet recovery to do something else than trying to reinstall my software. I started upward on an external drive; on a drive flash; erased and reformat the drive many times and I cannot clear the checkpoint.

I am happy to leave El Capitan over there, but I want the machine under my Apple ID.

Suggestions?

  • Upgrading OS on iMac Early 2008: 10.9.5 or 10.10?

I got a 2008 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo 24 " iMac with 6GBs memory and 2 TB hard drive.  I upgraded memory of 4 to 6 GB and 1 TB to 2 TB a few years ago.

    I am running 10.9.5.

    1. anyone can you tell me the advantages and disadvantages of the upgrade to 10.10 , or 10.11 for my 2008 iMac?  I certainly do not want to level to slow...

    2. for any of you with the older iMacs 2008, what is your experience with 10.10 and / or 10.11 on older devices?  more fast/slow, etc.

    Thank you!

Unless you have downloaded 10.10 previously, it is no longer available, so only download would be 10.11 El Capitan.

All latest versions of operating system require more RAM, faster processors, etc. They also use RAM differently as in: all this (unused RAM is wasted RAM). Thus, depending on what you have installed and your workflow, there are slowdowns.

First and foremost, make sure you have a good backup - a bootable clone would make things returning more easy. In this way, you can quickly start to this clone, erase your disc and clone the old system back. Alternatively, I'd say either create a second partition on your internal hard drive or use an external drive and, after cloning your current system on it (if you have all your files, etc.), install the 10.11 on it. Test drive for some time see if you like it or not. You can always remove it if you don't like it.

  • iMac early 2008 fails to boot completely

    Hi all -

I have an early 2008 iMac 3.06 GHz 24 "model that starts more completely. The system gets to the Apple screen and the progress bar comes in at halfway and there it is. I had replaced the original HARD with a SDD drive and had not had any problems so far. The system has 6 GB of RAM.

I searched around here and I've tried all of the following conditions:

    -Reset the SMC

    -Reset NVRAM

-AHT Ran, fast mode and the full analysis - no problems found. After that, the system does boot to the desktop, but after I stop, I was unable to get another successful reboot.

-Swapped the SDS for the original HARD drive (which was in good working order when removed) and the system stopped booting in the same place on the progress bar

    -Replacement battery PRAM

    -Ran new AHT.

Now, I remember the computer to reboot once before what is going on started and seeing that the screen was a little fuzzy. It's the me first to suspect the video card - but don't would not AHT reported that? I don't know if the problem I have is a card or a video card. This computer has been completely reliable since I bought it new in 2008 and I was very happy with it. I want to keep around for a little longer if possible.

Is there something I'm missing here? I have no problem opening the iMac and to make the appropriate surgery according to the needs, but I want to be sure I'm correct operation.

    Thank you!

Install or reinstall OS X from scratch

Make sure that you have backed up your files because the following procedure will remove all of the hard drive.

    HD recovery start:

Restart the computer and after the buzzer, press on and hold down the COMMAND and R until the menu screen appears.

    Erase the drive:

    1. select in the main menu disk utility and click on the continue button.

    2. once the charges of THE select your boot volume (usually Macintosh HD) in the

list on the left. Click on the Erase tab in the main window of THE.

    3. set the type of format Mac OS extended (journaled). If necessary, click

Security and button all the option data from scratch in a single pass. Click

the clear button and wait until the process is complete.

4 leave FROM and return to the main menu.

Reinstall OS X: Select reinstall OS X and click on the install button.

Note : You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest to use Ethernet if possible

because it is three times faster than wireless.

This should install the version of Mac OS X that you had installed it.

  • How can I erase an imac with a bad logic board?

I have an end-08, 24 "iMac with a bad logic board. I have since bought an end - 15, 27 ", 5K and was able to move everything via a Time Machine backup (thank God for that!). I'm getting rid of the 24 "but whatever way I do I first have to wipe it and the logic board bad converts this problem.

Although I'm not quite sure what the logic board, symptoms and a local Mac store confirmed that it's the highest probability. It will start and sometimes there and the past, the login screen, but the screen is always 'glitch', vertical lines appear and it freezes before it gets never entirely recorded in. Is that what I can do to wipe disk data without disassembling the whole and the withdrawal / degaussing HD?

Use the target disk Mode. Connect the Mac with a firewire port, love at first sight or a cable Ethernet follow the steps here, except that you use the disc mode target to make the hard drive on your act of target as a connected drive. Then use disk to erase utility.

  • Problems with iMac 24 "2008

I am totally beside me how to fix my computer. Here's the story.

A year or so, my computer has stopped starting upwards. I blamed it on my husband for the recording of all its video games on my computer and I thought it kind of caught or something was wrong, but who knows.

in any case, what started to happen was, I pushed the power button and the computer began to start. It rang, and then I saw the status bar, which seem to take forever. Before that the computer could not start completely, it stops. I tried to do this several times, but I could not start completely. I was able to boot into recovery mode. When I ran disk utility, it showed me that the hard drive has been locked. I tried several times to fix it, but it would allow me to fix it. Finally, I have advanced and erased the hard drive, because I had already photographed it. After it, I restored it back to the top, and it seemed to work fine.

Two months later, he did exactly the same thing. I fought with him again and again, but it has gotten to the point where it would allow me to erase its content in more disk utility. I put the original installation disc into the computer and wipe it clean from the disc, there still, restore back up.

Now, there it is again. My computer has taken over. I'm so frustrated that I had planned just to not restore backup from this time and just transfer necessary photos and documents from my above outside. I was unable to clean or repair in once again disk utility, so finally I put in the installation disk and it started from there, but then he would allow me to erase the hard drive from there. Somehow, I could finally do wiping of disk utility (after several attempts and patience).

This time, after getting the hard drive erased, I went to reboot the computer and the computer booted to a full white screen. It wouldn't boot all the way and I couldn't even move my mouse. I forced the closing it down, started from the install disc and tried to install the software, but it would allow me to do. He told me that there is an error.

I started in disk utility, even once, connected to the internet and tried to install the software from the internet... Looks like it would work perfectly, only he showed me waiting for the scheduled time was 22 minutes... and its been there for the past 12 hours, but no progress on the small bar thing. Absolutely no.

I asked a couple of guys at work and they told me it looked like my hard drive has been corrupted. I was told I might need to buy a drive solid state internal entirely new and might solve my problem.

I just wanted to see if anyone had similar problems or if he could tell me how to fix it myself.

    Thank you.

  • Failed Windows 7 install, 2008 iMac running 10.11.4: not found disk bootable

I'm having a lot of bad to install Windows 7 on an iMac of 2008 running the latest OS X El Capitan, 10.11.4. The exact procedure followed is based on this Apple Support document, with a few changes:

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT205016

The first change is to the Info.plist of Boot Camp, three changes to account for what is a former Mac:

    (1) adding a string version of the ROM of the Mac: < string > IM81.00C1.B00 < / string >

    (2) change < key > PreUSBBootSupportedModels < / key > < key > USBBootSupportedModels < / key >, i.e. delete "Pre".

    (3) addition of the string that identifies this Mac: < string > iMac8, 1 < / string >

Running Boot Camp Assistant again, I can then tick the three boxes available in select tasks, according to the screen shot in the article cited above.

WININSTALL flash player is created, a legitimate Windows 7 ISO 32-bit file.

The second amendment concerns points 8 to 11 of the article cited above, which mentions that the following files/folders should be added the flash player:

    $WinPEDriver$ (file)

    AutoUnattend.xml

    BootCamp (folder)

Supposedly the correct support for this iMac 2008 software is as follows, 4.0.4033...

    https://support.Apple.com/kb/DL1630?locale=en_US

... but after you download it and unzip, I'm not find the required files/folders.

If I dig around on this other page, looking for other Boot Camp downloads where these files/folders may be present:

    https://support.Apple.com/downloads/Bootcamp

Curiously, some of these downloads contain the three files/folders, and some do not. So I download the latest software from Boot Camp, 5.1.5722 support:

    https://support.Apple.com/kb/DL1836?viewlocale=en_US & local = en_US

I find all three files in this download and drag them to the flash drive. The entire list of files on the drive WININSTALL is now as follows:

I make new Boot Camp Assistant, i.e. the third box in the screen select tasks, the installation process.

The installation will stop when the Mac re-lance himself. The following message appears on the screen on a black background:

"No boot device - insert boot disk and press any key".

I tried this procedure several times and with different flash drives, with the same result.

Restart the Mac with the button shows 'alt' that the normal Mac hard disk is available for selection, but no Windows disk is present. If the same partition?

I'm puzzled. Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

Bootcamp Info.plist changes do not work on 2008 models, because there is no support to boot from USB MBR. You will need to burn the W7 ISO on a physical DVD and then use the last checkbox to install Windows. Keep the USB key to install the drivers for BC when finished.

The reason why you can't find the files in 4.0.4033 is $WinPEDriver because $ is loaded when the front boot from USB on specific models that take into boot USB. 2012 models supports USB or DVD connection facilities.
